Hello,
first of all, I am a total xda-noob (as told by the video) and my deeper Android knowledge is quite small.
Well, I'm seriouly considering to put the Cyanogen mod on my phone and now I have a question about going back to the stock ROM. I've made a backup of the stock ROM using Clockworkmod Recovery and this made seven files which can be seen in the added image. Now I'm wondering how I can go back to the stock ROM if CM doesn't fit me. I know I have to restore the backup in recovery mode but I think I'm right if I say this isn't enough. Can someone tell what to do exactly, as I am very cautionous. Or are there other ways to flash my stock ROM? Thanks in advance! MY CURRENT ANDROID VERSION IS GINGERBREAD 2.3.5
P.S. If this is already answered in another thread or if this placed wrongly, please tell me and I apologize for that.
UPDATE
After some searching I found this small tutorial which fitted my expectations. It said that it can indeed simply be done by restoring it in recovery mode by simply selecting the backup folder. Can someone comfirm this?
Almost right.
Cyanogenmod roms use a different format for the system, called 'ext4'. Stock roms use 'rfs' format.
Before restoring you have to convert to rfs. The easy way to do this is flashing a stock firmware with odin and your phone connected to the pc.
Quick guidelines to restore stock backup:
-flash a stock firmware through odin
-root
-flash cwm through recovery
-restore your backup
-you'll have everything exactly the same way you had it when creating the backup.
If you don't get any of the steps, read through the forum, specially the stickies (you wouldn't have opened this thread if you did so in the first place).

Thank you for answering. About everything is clear now and I understand what I'll have to do. I now understand there is indeed a difference between restoring and flashing a ROM. I've found an online guide which tells me how to use Odin. Only one more question: before using Odin, do I have to factory reset and clear cache partion? I think I do but I'm not quite sure. And if I do this before using Odin, will my phone even be able to boot in recovery mode/download mode? Thanks in advance!

ya you can do it.but not a must..
it cause no problems..
jst wipes user apps and datas in int memory...
but you hv to wipe data and cache via recovery after flashing via odin at first boot..

Are you mental or just plain sadistic? Telling new ace users to try Rom Manager?
ROM MANAGER WILL BRICK YOUR ACE.
Only under some very specific conditions rom manager works in the ace, if you don't know them, stay away from this app.

You want to help people or make them brick their phones? It is common knowledge that ROM Manager doesn't work properly on Ace.....
Maybe he can use stock lite rom?

Use Odin, I always use to use it when I accidentally bricked my phone

My Ace already runs Droid Ace v2, when I brick my phone I'll see what I can do with Odin.

You can still use it even if your phones not bricked

*HIT THANKS IF I HAVE HELPED YOU*
Just got TWRP on my s3 and because of its ease of use I'm thinking about putting it on my friends i9000. She can sort of get around the Cwm I have on it now but I figure it would be much easier with TWRP.
Can it be installed/used with no issues on this device?
I would use goo manager to install.
The i9000 is on cm7

You need a kernel that supports it. If you upgrade to CM9 or 10, you can flas Devil kernel and activate TWRP.
You need a specific kernel to flash a recovery? I put TWRP recovery on my s3 without touching the kernel. Strange

Oh, I looked around and it seems that I'm wrong. You should be able to just install it like you wrote to do.
Were you able to put TWRP onto the i9000, if so how?
I have CM9.1 on mine and would really like to replace recovery with TWRP
I haven't had the i9000 with me this week. Download goo manager from the play store and try to install it through thay

Hi there,
I want to ask you all how do I root my stock ICS without installing other custom roms. I just need the stock to be rooted for me to install titanium back up and unroot it after the Jellybean official arrived.
I am having a lot of problem with game save files import and export. Cause most of the game save saved locally on phone.
Any help would be grateful!

Go through Dr.Ketan's guide..you will get to know everything about rooting.
I did the same thing when I first rooted my phone. Just rooted the stock ICS & was using it. So, under development section, you will find the kernel thread in which you will see Philz kernel. Select the one which is for your ICS version & flash it via PC Odin
just install the philz kernel using recovery and you will get root.
If I want to restore back to stock kernel, what should I do? flash stock kernel again?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app
Yes using mobile odin..

Use Exynos Abuse.
It will work on ICS firmware only. (Not GIngerbread)

Its the safest, easiest and quickest method to root.

I just updated thru Kies in Hong Kong, to 4.04 JB. I tried to use the camera and I had an alert blocking the camera screen and a message bar as follows "Tap and hold shortcuts to edit them. Also combined with it where the OK button was was a text box with the words scanning media in it.
Now, its working after I played with it, first I reboot, that didn't help. Then I accidentally put it into third party mode but hit the up volume to get out of it before it went into download mode. It started to reboot but I held the up-vol, home and on button until it went to the rest screen. I tried to just wipe the cache, but it didn't do anything, moving the selector up and down worked, I tried wiping cache again, no luck, so I just reboot. After rebooting I laid the phone down and started to look for a solution in here. So I go to try the camera again to get the alert message it had, and
Wha La, the darn camera started working right, the alert blocking the screen was gone, it came up as usual for a new triggering, but it accepted my selection when I told it ok and then it went away as usual, computers, micro-processors, no matter what kind, if you have problems, some times just a long shut down to clear the electronic memory will also clear the problems.
Hi so i am thinking of upgrading to twrp but is it good and most of all it is safe to flash it as i am used to clockworkmod revovery as i used it since i first rooted my phone so i need help should i glash twrp or not?
Sent from my GT-I9305T using xda app-developers app
They are both good in my opinion, but there is one thing to consider. If you should have a bad flash of somekind that would lead to a non-functional touch screen twrp won't work because of the lack of hardware button compability.
Besides that twrp is very smooth as you can set backup names on the fly.
PhilZ is superior to both of them
Whats philz? I have never heard of it

TWRP/CWM is for flashing roms, doing backups, etc. The stock recovery is mainly flashed before returning for a replacement or repairs.
