Hello!
This is something that always bugged me since I got this phone, but I don't know if its just me, or is it Samsung related.
After connecting the charger and phone starts charging, if I reboot it, the phone turns back on without continuing charging.
I have tried this multiple times. I also tried starting to charge when phone is off then turning it on - same symptom, phone doesn't continue charging.
Of course if I disconnect and reconnect the charge continues.
I am using CoCore 5.6.2 + Pure Vanilla Rom (JB LQB).
So, is this a Samsung bug, or is it something on my part?
Thanks...

Is there any fix for this? app? script?
As of yet... no.
I never faced such a bug. If you want to troubleshoot, get a dmesg
I do not respond to tech support via PM

Hey shaan,
Isn't a dmesg just after a kernel crash?
How can I get it?
Code:
su dmesg >/mnt/sdcard/dmesg.txt
Edit:
Attached to this message is my dmesg.
I connected the power cable, made a reset and printed out the above dmesg.

It's there a way for me to decrypt what the dmesg output means?

So I seem to have found a certain scenario where I do get the charge.
My Samsung charger is a 500 mah. When my phone was connected to my car charger which is a 1000 mah and I did a reboot, this time they phone kept charging.
So anyone why this is? Fixable?

Sadly no.
As I said I found that with my car charger of 1A the phone continues to charge after reboot.
Since I don't have a 1A wall charger, I couldn't test my theory.
All I do now, is pray that the phone doesn't reboot while I'm aslep or otherwise my alarm might not go off
Don't know why this happens, and apparently no one knows

Holy God!
This kind of freak just happened to me !
You don't even want to know about it ,damn freaking
Today I JUST found my Milestone wouldn't charge connected to wall-charger with system's on.
This thing Only charges when it is on usb connected to laptop or pc ,what's more surperising is that you can charge this phone with its power down.
I have Googled the entire internet, negative result.
So PLEASE someone help me !
i would go to recovery menue and wipe the hole device, if that wont help, i would consider of using another android rom, there are so much good roms here, all better then the custom rom
maybe that helps

thx but all that u have mentioned is uesless,i even refleshed bootloader, did no help.
what do you mean everything he said its useless? have you tried reflashing SBF or just updating latest CM over (non-androidiani) OpenRecovery?
Because, it looks like its more of a custom rom problem than anything else?

Did it cross your mind that it could be the charger?
If chgarger supplies less than 500mA, phone will show charging but will not be able to top up battery. I would also recommend to try another charger.
You say that when phone is OFF it charges but not when ON? Than i can confirm what is the cause. Like somone mentioned before, charger does not support enough power. How i know this?
It also happens to me with my CAR charger. Phone only charges if it is OFF but not when it is ON. So gues you and i need a stronger charger. Or maybe it is just defective and was once working.
yeah, sounds like your charger is busted.
the only other thing i can think to try is go into the applications menu and clear the data for the app usb.apk and then force stop, then reboot.

i don't know, but the charger seems to work fine on any others,i've tried with my iphone and sony mp4 player, both good.
another problem i just found ,gave me a very bad feeling about this.
that is my phone's battery indictor now has only two levels, one is 20% the other is 50%,even if i charged the phone when it's off.
i've reflash variant sbfs, no help at all.
as i can see,usb service is running smoothly fine on each rom, original roms.
i tink ur charger is busted. try buyin a new charger and see wat happens. at the same time i tink sumtin is wron with ur battery too as you said that it shows only 20% and 50%. maybe ur charger also busted your battery.

i've tried 3 chargers, all of em work fine but not for my milestone.
Gee,battery and charger both busted?
really doesn't sound good to me.
Hi guys.
My note has been doing this for the past week or so:
The phone says it's charging, there's a lightning bolt sign in the battery symbol most of the time, then it'll flash off to just show a battery symbol (as it should be when not plugged in) then it'll change to just a black space. Then it'll flash back to a charging icon, then normal, then the black space, it's a cycle.
When it is actually plugged in it doesn't do the above, it just says it's charging and it does charge. But it won't let me connect USB or anything as it thinks it's already plugged in?
Does anyone know any fixes?
I've already changed to Jellybean firmware, factory restored, did a restore on CWM, wiped caches etc etc and still broken?
Anyone had the same problems? Or know any fixes?
Thanks in advance.
Oli
Try a different kernel (probably the culprit) ... also try pulling out the battery for 10 minutes
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2
Pulled the battery out mate, but yeah will try an alternate kernel
It might be a problem with your phone's usb/charging port
Just try cleaning the charging port
The same thing happened with me I just cleaned the usb port with tooth stick slowly and worked again like charm it has been like 2 months till now If I helped jus click the thanks button enjoy yr day

Is it happening with all roms including stock or just CM based? If its cm specific then try flashing stock rom.
Its because phone detects your phone is already connected. Just get your usb port replaced and it will be okay hopefully..
when i use ac,my phone detect it as a USB charging.
Can anyone help to with this?

Yes. Me too got this strange problem. I have re-flashed the xcs kernel again. Now it's detecting as AC. But, the actual voltage is less than normal.
Usually, the output from charger is ~800mA but now I'm getting jus 550-650mA..
Thought of going back to some other kernel..
I am not able to charge my phone since few days, when I try to connect it to PC it didn't detect any thing.
I have reset the mobile to factory setting.
When I power on it it shows battery charging icon when it press it again it start the mobile.
There is no response when I connect it to PC, But when I disconnect it shows charging for a while and it goes away.
I talked with Samsung service center it says there might be problem with charging IC
Please suggest
Have you tried using other charger? Maybe it would be best to bring it to samsung service center if it's IC problem.

I tried with 10-15 different cables, but still there is no response.
I get battery charging image when i press the power button first time without connecting the cable and when I press it again then the phone starts. Does that mean anything, right now I am charging the phone using external charger and I am also not able to connect the mobile to laptop too.

I tried the replacement battery too, but still the issue is same.
Try to plug it directly on usb

I had similar issue.
It turned out to be a bit of pocket fluff inside the usb socket.
I tried a vacuum cleaner first which didnt help very much but then I used a small soft clean paintbrush to loosen the dirt inside the socket, then hoover out and bingo!
Try that first before you send it off for repair.

It looks as though the phone is charging, but the indication of the charging/not charging state is very slow to react.
You plug it in - it shows nothing (but maybe charging), then you unplug it and it shows charging (for a short time).
I suggest that you plug the charger in for at least 10 minutes and time how long before the phone displays that it is being charged. After the 10 minutes, unplug the charger and time how long before the display changes to not being charged.
After flasing cm10.1 and reverting back my nandroid back up the phone worked fine for about 5 hours, now my phone just shutoff saying it had 0 percent battery when like 5 min before it said 65 percent, now it doesnt want to charge at all. i plugged with 5 different chargers in 5 different outlets....please help

I dont know if there is any kind of help if the phone wont power on. you can try to power it on in safe mode by holding the vol+ and power buttons, but if the battery really is dead all i can say is there is a trip to the sprint store in your future. Good luck

Can you be a little more specific as to what you've tried that's not letting it charge at all?
Unless you guys were messing with fast charge or something's seriously wrong with the CM10.1 kernel/you made an error while flashing, you really shouldn't be able to disable your device from charging, so much as just mess up how your OS is measuring charge...do you not see the notification light?

Fast charge is a kernel option that's included as a quick toggle/option in a lot of custom ROMs. It doesn't necessarily mean your phone will charge any faster-- it usually disables a phone's USB functionality so that it charges about as fast on USB as it does on AC (not really, but that's a good enough working explanation).
Have yo ujust let the phone sit for a while before trying to restart? If so, and you'r estill having trouble, can you get into fastboot or a recovery?
This should also probably be in the Q&A section, by the way-- you're more likely ot get a response there.

Then I'd suggest you post in the Q&A/troubleshooting forums, or the dedicated thread for the ROM you downloaded. At this point, it's probably time to look into something a little more complex than what I (or others) should be posting in this particular forum.
