SetCPU and M7 underlocking - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys im still fairly new to this scene so be easy on me. I installed the New Android Revolution HD 7.0 Rom which comes with the default stock kernel (I believe). I want to make the most of the battery life and I heard some good stuff about SetCPU. After installing the software I got a warning saying that HTC phones need Perflock Disabled. Here is where my question comes in
1. I cant find the Perflock Disabler button anywhere. I read that u need to click in the home button but the M7 only has 2 button it doesn't have the appropriate home button to get to that option. Ive tried several button combination with no success.
2.I've seen some fairly new kernels being released that enable underclocking/overclocking can any point me to the best one to use. The ones Ive seen dont work with roms with build 1.29.xxx ( which is the one I have )
Any help would be appraciated

Perflock is a kernel feature not an option that you can disable. You need to download the kernel source code and disable perflock from there. Compile it and flash it into your phone.
Perflock is a feature that scales the CPU clocks depending on your usage frequency. There are loads of applications that can adjust the CPU frequency even with perflock enabled but once perflock kicks in it will just revert back to the default settings.

[APP] HTC HD2 ToolBox with Hot BootLoader

Small app for managing some HD2 specific tasks (auto backlight, button auto-off...) and few other things. This is early preview beta just for bug testing and "market research". This basically means "if you want some more functions, give me an idea !" .
Also in later stage i will activate Hot BootLoader for loading linux distros from android, and some other nifty tricks like kernel swapping, "on the fly" user data remount, and other...
For all updates follow me on twitter...
Enjoy
UPDATE: Released new version with Hot BootLoader and sample linux distro (debian with xfce4). For more information go to appropriate forum: LINK
And please all questions regarding HBL put in other thread !

any screenshot pls ?
Looks good so far, the hot bootloader function alone will make the app worth having once implemented.
Would also be great to have hot recovery (cwm via mgldr or clk- dont ask me how to pull that off lol)
and maybe a hot mgldr option if possible,
and screen density.
Shows real potential !
Tried to up a couple of screen shots, but tapatalk isn't letting me

What's the different between backlight control using microp vs std android?

Hot reboot would be a nice feature to include
It has hot reboot already, restart zygote (the davlik vm, that's how most programs hot reboot anyways) it's under misc in the menu.

You just took words out of my mouth I should probably rename this button so more users would know what it means.

Tried this and I got stuck on the boot animation screen. Had to pull battery out and then it booted fine.

Thx for your app, the hot reboot is awesome !!
Note that after an hot reboot, I have to enable/disable flight mode because the network connection doesnt work anymore (I could receive calls but no internet).
Again, what's the different between backlight control using microp vs std android ?
And would you include a trick to make the led notifications working ?
i would love to boot ubuntu 0.3 from android 2.3.3, hope you can do something about that..
At dan1j3l I just recently installed a app called Boot Anomation that can be found here on XDA. This app lets you imstall a new boot animation, back up your boot animation and download new boot animations. It is a fairly new app so it not a lot of boot animations to download just yet but it works great. I think your HD2 Tool Box app would be awsome with something like this in it.
Also no rush but I am looking forward to being able to use the Hot Boot function, any news on that as of right now?

[Q] Nexus 6 ROM for Gaming/Performance & Overclock?

Hi all,
Had my Nexus 6 for a while and love it, but its starting to get a little sluggish and I've been having a look at a few ROMs available but I've not quite found one thats took my fancy. I was wondering if someone could recommend a ROM that's minimal providing good performance and possibly something that allows a CPU and GPU overclock? If I'm not mistaken its the kernel that provides the overclocking facility and not the ROM. I have seen a ROM (must include a kernel) that states CPU and GPU overclocks but in the description its actually downclocked for battery life.
Just throwing it out there in case someone reading this could answer as well, I've heard GTA San Andreas is an intense game to play on High settings, how does (stock) perform or as a bonus do you know how it performs with an overclock? I was surprised to see quite a few phone on benchmarks beat the Nexus 6
Thanks for any help/recommendations
first off, questions go into the q&a/help section, not into general. secondly, roms do not provide oc, or performance enhancing. thirdly, you want to try different kernels, as they provide oc and performance enhancements. i use elementalx kernel, which allows me to oc to 3033mhz.
and which phones beat the n6 in benchmarks? i get 58500 on antutu with my n6.

Hi,
Yes as I did say I did pick up that kernels provided over clocking and I will try elementalx and see how that goes. As for the benchmarks for graphics I come across this website and filtered out Desktop and over 7" devices and that's where I discovered the Nexus 6 quite low down the score board.
http://gfxbench.com/result.jsp
Well definitely got some stuff to do now, I shall hopefully remove forced encryption and get elementalx on the go and see how it goes.

Hi Again,
Took absolutely ages to install ROM and kernel because I deleted everything I'm twrp (advanced options) but Chroma ROM and Elementalx kernel are installed but I have some questions if you can help. First you have a massive 3033 over clock which if I recall was an option available when installing through recovery, however I've paid for the Elementalx app and highest over clock available is: 2649. Any reason for this? Also can I re install Elementalx through recovery without loosing anything?
Also there's only a 600mhz clock available for graphics is it possible to get higher ?
Last but not least I was really looking forward to having no encryption but it seems Elementalx installs with encryption.. Anyway around this? I've heard of read and write increases of up to three times faster.

if you intall the kernel through tbe app, youll get less options. install it tbrough the recovery, amd go ghrough thd setup and choose 3032mhz.
for the gpu, yes, 600 is the max. no way around that.
the kernel supports decryption, but you have to decrypt first, its not automatic. to decrypt, you have to reformat your storage, then boot up with the kernel.

Hi again,
I originally did everything through recovery but didn't choose the highest over clock I just assumed it could be changed in settings or something.
Anyway to decrypt.. If I go into TWRP and perform a wipe (the three things that it selects as default) shall I install just the kernal first (no rom, su or gapps) to get the option to decrypt? Then install the ROM , Gapps and su afterwards?
Sorry for the newbness

lol, thats alright, we were all newbs once.
no, thats not how things work. a rom has to be installed, then the kermel. then you reformat your storage, then you just reboot and youre unencrypted
btw, im still encrypted. besides the read/write speeds, it all is the same.
Read the disable forced encryption thread in development. Take your time before you mess things up.

ok, I wiped the phone in TWRP installed Chroma then Elementalx, gApps then supersu then I selected to wipe data and I had to type yes. Afterwards Chroma would be stuck in a boot loop. It said Android is starting.. starting apps but then immediately restart. So I tried again but after installing everything I just performed a factory reset and this time it worked, but I have an odd problem.. it;s installing apps but saying I'm running out of storage space?.. I went into storage and it shows 25.98GB available.. any ideas? and also thanks for your help I do now have it decrypted and I think im running an overclock that you had.. I'll have to wait for the app to install to verify

Hi,
before you replied I went ahead and tried flashing again this time not performing the wipe after I installed everything. But now I can't get rid of the boot loop, everytime Chroma starts for the first time a window appears saying "apps are starting.. starting apps" but once finished it reboots... I've tried flashing everything and performing a wipe, flashing and performing a cache and delvik wipe and also flashing and performing nothing just booting into system... however im still stuck in that boot loop.. seems I've gone a step backwards somewhere lol.. any ideas? I'll continue flashing in the meantime until I get a reply thanks for your help again
This time I wiped user data as well as factory reset so there was nothing at all on the phone. restarted into TWRP which mounted the file system so I could transfer all the files over from my PC. installed everything as per usual and once installed I didn't wipe delvik cache I just selected to boot into system but same again it just says starting apps and once finished just reboots.

ok, I keep getting optimising apps on every boot so not too sure why that is, but storage space running out is gone and encryption is also disabled. One thing however is Elelemntalx app shows the default overclock being used and not exceeding 2265,, however if I go into CPU settings I see 3033 as on option but when selected it won't change the overclock above the default max

its because youre at 40% battery or less. on 5.1, the cpu automatically drops to 2265. at 20%, it drops even more. nothing you can do about it at this point

Sweeet waiting for it to get another 20 odd percent then see if it gets 3033
Vindicator kernel supports 2.9ghz CPU OC and 700mhz GPU. Optipop or benzo ROM are both pretty optimized.

Bad battery life after unlock bootloader??

Hello,
I created a backup from my TA partition, then i unlocked my bootloader.
After that i installed a recovery and then CM, but the battery life was so bad i wanted to go back to stock.
So i restored my TA partition and used Flashtool to install stock rom (relocked my bootloader).
But my battery life now is very bad. I got like 2.5 hours on screen time...
Can somebody tell me what i did wrong?
Thankss.
Re-Unlock your bootloader again, unlocking your bootloader brings a plethora of opportunities to save battery.
-> First off, Use a custom kernel that supports undervolting, and has intelliplug driver and supports power suspend
-> You can download this application in PlayStore called ( Pimp my Z1 ) disregard the name since it also works on Z3 Compact so as long you have root access, it helps you tweak the phone like changing the frequencies and power suspending and those things.
-> Try underclocking to a lower frequency when not doing heavy tasks ( like at around 1.7-19Ghz ) and use a governor that doesn't scale up frequencies too quickly like SmartassV2 or Nightmare.
I also suggest too stay clear of CM as all of the builds are nightlies and none of them are near stable meaning they have bugs.
Hope this helps! Good luck!

[ROM][TMOBILE][S7_SM-G930T][Oreo Rooted]

I created a new ROM with WifiCalling: [ROM][TMOBILE][S7_SM-G930T][Oreo 8.0 Rooted][WifiCalling]
ROM last updated: 9/24/2018
Introduction:
HUGE thanks to the guys that got this going like root & figuring out hybrid stocks! This thread here is just my take and customization on what they already did. Ultimately, I wanted Oreo rooted & modded, but I couldn't find a single guide. And the ROMs that existed weren't exactly what I was looking for. I wanted something exclusive to Tmobile. So I did a ton of reading and compiled it all together into a HOPEFULLY easy guide to follow. PS If you like Samsung bloatware, this is NOT for you!
Description:
EXTREMELY debloated! Nearly bare minimum, while still retaining hardware functionality. Eg, Samsung Gallery & Camera exist so we get 4k recording, and there aren't errors when we pull up the Gallery to edit, etc.
Everything possible I replace Samsung with Google
Solid ROM, very fast
There are very few options in Aroma to limit issues & repeatability. There are many options once booted up after initial setup
If you hate Samsung SW and just want a solid working ROM with very few install options to get you up and running this is for you.
Aroma installer layout is a little wonky, apologies (If anyone knows how to fix this please chime in )
This will delete all of your data! This is the only way so don't ask. Backup your data!

Optional Tmobile Apps
Optional Google Apps

Meant no offensive at all, I assure you. Did I completely misunderstand the point of the xda community? I clearly gave you credit and didn't say I created this from scratch, rather pieced it together, literally what every Dev here does. I am not doing this for money. I mentioned & thanked you, which is probably how you found this thread. All I am trying to do is give back to the community. I spent a TON of time going through guides, updating what I found, creating a guide, and testing this - I didn't just rebrand it.
That said, I did use part of your work so I'll give you the choice: can I use part of your work and allow the xda community to benefit, or do you want me to remove your segment & Lanc app this comes with?
Btw see the post above yours. And shouldn't this chat be on PM? For reference, what I used from you was your apks so I didn't have to redownload & retest them and aroma script for a starting point, but the script is 90% different at this point.
Again, I did not mean to offend, but please let me know if I have your permission. Thank you
Good news! We got @Lanc-City 's blessing to continue to use his base ROM & LancControl app. This XDA community is AWESOME! Don't forget to go and check out his original Mod'd ROM: Project L s7 Google/Samsung Oreo Rom CRF1
VoLTE icon fix
Not sure if this will work for everyone. Download System UI Tuner by Zach Wander from Play Store. Once in menu, go to TouchWiz, scroll down to IMS VoLTE Icon and toggle on then off. I did not apply the fix that you have the link for above, and I was able to uninstall the app and the icon does not come back.
Hey, I am trying to use your ROM but after I flash the zip file and finish set up with Aroma and reboot, I get stuck in the boot screen where the rainbow colored X symbol is spinning. I followed the guide exactly so I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Maybe my default options in flash fire are not correct? All the boxes in that screen are unchecked. Should I mount /system read/write? I just hit the checkmark and flash. Also I did hit Install Root with Interactive Governor, if that makes a difference. Any help? Thanks.

Copying/Pasting PM I sent you for others, and added some things:
Did you let the "rainbow" sit there for at least 10 min? (It should be 3-5 but who knows.) Are you soft-bricked in your current situation? If you start again, at "Install Stock Oreo:" does this at least restore your phone back to stock Oreo? If so, then try again and proceed with ALL the remaining steps again, CAREFULLY reading the instructions again & again.
Also, what phone model do you have? And I admit I haven't tested the CPU governors in the root script ; I ALWAYS chose none - I'll remove those options in the next version since I have tested them and there are plenty of CPU overclocking options once booted inside the ROM.
If you are able to restart this process and get stock Oreo back, AND chose NO CPU governors in the root script, maybe you want to either try "NO" to Google & Tmobile options just to make sure you can get Android booted- If it boots fine, then try the ROM again and pick Google and/or Tmobile to isolate any issues (things that are breaking)
Have you used ONLY what I provided, such as ODIN (version is important), etc?
Re Flashfire: Default options should be fine. The ROM script will set all the partitions, mounts, permissions, etc.
Good luck!
*Above response I guess is for overall troubleshooting the ROM, if any issues present themselves.
On another note: I'm actively working on this ROM as time allows. Trying to ease the install process, correct some issues, further customize, & improve...

So I did let it sit for a long time, maybe like 30 mins, but nothing happened. So I tried again from installing from stock and repeating each step. I'm using the odin files you supplied. Same thing. I was using install Google Apps and No T-mobile apps, and interactive governor for both situations. Stuck on boot animation screen. I did not try the options you suggested above since I eventually got it to work. So while stuck on the boot animation screen, I just ended up holding the Vol down, power and home until it rebooted and said entering recovery mode and let go before it went into download mode. From there I just wiped data, and cache, which may not be necessary, and then rebooted, and everything works. Thanks.

That's odd since the installer does exactly that. But I added this to the guide. Thanks for the feedback!
Thanks for the tutorial. Deeply appreciate the effort you put in foraging the resources and putting all the pieces together. The rom works great and all but I can't seem to get the lockscreen to display the wallpaper. It's just black lol. The adaptive clock works however. Would be grateful if you could drop a fix for this.

(Not sure why I didn't get an email from XDA for this post.) Mind walking me through the exact place this setting is? Here? PhoneSettings->Lock screen and security->Clock and Facewidgets->Clock Style->Select a style for "Lock screen" tab at top->Done? (Im able to get these to work)
BTW, Im glad you found this thread resourceful! & Im working on another one, which will be better & more original. Takes a TON of time!

Your stock oreo should work without issues but I always flash his stock firmware just in case(it's smoother too I think). And no, it doesnt require an unlocked bootloader.
Oh and happy modding

There are a couple ways an installer can work for custom rom mods like this: start with base then remove everything we don't want. OR: delete everything then add in what we want. This rom happens to work with the latter method. You can see why the base would be so important with the first method. (Because if we don't start with a given base then we can't predict the results because we don't know what u froze or deleted). Regardless, for expected & reliable results, I would always start with an Odin flash of stock for a rom like this. Roms like this are different than vanilla AOSPs because we strip what Samsung & tmobile brewed up, and we often then refer to it as a hybrid- as opposed to vanilla aosp which would be google only & only Samsung for drivers, etc. Hope that helps.
Btw I'm working on another rom with tmobile wifi calling working. I had to start from scratch, literally to get it working. Btw I'm curious if anyone else got it to work after the fact with a custom rom. If so, PLEASE chime in & let me know. Thanks!

BEST FOR NON-GAMER USER ?

Best :
Stay on android 10 or return to final android 9 or custom, tweak : ROM, kernel, etc..
or what's the best for non-gamers user ?
android 10 (seems to me some kind of kernel problem) for our phone is ****ed up, battery wise.
just stay on a9, tweak it a bit and you should have better experience than with a10.
sure, some have good battery life on a10. i was one of those people. but over time it just started declining. it could be because i used custom kernel and some heavy tweaks from that one thread here.
actually, i think that the more you tweak this phone, the worse battery life gets. sure, you can disable few apps, but that's it. don't go crazy on disabling services and what not. maybe install custom kernel.

Thanks you for the answers and suggestions..
if so, I will return to the final A9. My plan will do :
- unlok bootloader (edl mode)
- flash raw firmware (A9)
- install twrp (permanently)
- install magisk (for root)
What do you think ? is it correct ? or need correction ? please if you have any suggestions, I would really appreciate it..
Sorry if my language not good. I appreciate any adcvice and suggestion sirr..
i would suggest unlocking bootloader through official asus application. just to be on the safe side

Oh thank you for the advice. Then I will do : Unlok Bootloader (official) > Flash Raw Firmware (A9) > Install TWRP (permanently) > Install Magisk (for root).
Now I'm at the latest A10 and I will do the job above. Does anyone have any other tips and suggestions ? Like :
- advice before or when doing
- suggestions after working (such as settings, tweaks or custom : kernel, ROM or other tips and suggestions after doing it) if any, please..
after you flash raw firmware, do a factory reset.
for tweaks, it depends on what you want from this phone. most stuff works pretty good without modifying.

Thanks for the advice friends..
If the phone has unlocked bootloader won't it cause problems returning to factory settings ?
unlocking bootloader will reset your phone to factory settings. but it's advisable to do another factory reset after flashing firmware so no files are left from other android version.
Ooh thanks you for the advice and suggestions..
