Wifi on my galaxy note won't turn on so I was thinking of replacing it.
Does anyone know if that is possible by replacing that part only or do I have to replace the entire board?
are you sure its a hardware issue and not a kernel issue?
Maybe try a COMPLETE CLEAN INSTALL of stock rom on PC ODIN to ve sure its not hardware issue..
<<<The CRACKS on my NOTE shows how often it KISSES the FLOOR>>>
I have tried everything!
Different roms and also stock roms with pc odin.
The thing is that after flashing a new rom wifi works for a couple of days and then it just doesn't turn on.
So I assume it is a hardware problem though it doesn't make any sense...
I have posted another thread for this problem if someone of you want to take a look at it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2157447
WiFi settings are synced with Google when the phone connects to your account, maybe there is something bad with it.
You should try first with another account (a new one if possible) just to be sure your Note's WiFi settings are clear.
It have to be done after a factory reset of course.
Is bluetooth working fine? This is the same chip for WiFi and for BT, so if BT works fine, the BT/WiFi chip should be OK.

Hi, I had/have the exact same problem. I tried all kinds of things. I eventually half fixed it by taking my phone apart, make sure nothing is in the wrong place. Disconnect the 7 connectors and then reconnect them.
now it seems wifi still turns off by itself, but the problem is more manageable.

turning airplane airplane mode off and on will fix it, temporarily at least. It's still a pain in the arse, but it's way better than before.

Hey guys. First of all I want to thank you all for detailed information and in advance for helping me I've got a really weird problem that I can't solve. I bought my milestone from a guy(second hand) and I found wi-fi and bluetooth is not working. I thought that I can solve the problem but I can't find any solution over all android forums.
I flashed some different ROM's but nothing affected the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth problem. When I try to Turn On Wi-Fi it tries to start and then stops then again starts, it goes on and on. I tried to find original MAC address it shows 00:00:00:00:00:00. I tried to Mac Spoof but I can't change it from terminal.
And for the bluetooth I click Turn On then it tries to turn on and stops like I didn't click anything.
As a summary I lost my Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Anyone can help me restoring it back to normal? Cause in my Area 3G is unstable and I want to use my home network! I can't use it any more. I'm waiting for the good responses.
Thanks in advance...
Please help. This is important for me... If someone helps me I'll donate 15 USD from paypal. Thankssss...
There are several possible reasons why it's not working. They include:
Bad hardware.
Corrupt software.
Non Stock Firmware.
To eliminate the last two, you can flash the appropriate SBF.
To do this, follow the instructions on how to get your milestone back to stock here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=696845
On the page to get sbf, scroll down to the 2.1 section and dowload the latest version for your carrier
This will completely wipe your phone, and make it like a new phone. If that doesn't resolve the issue, the problem is probably hardware related.
If this worked for you, please donate the $15 to xda. You can do that via http://forum.xda-developers.com/donations.php
Thanks for quick-reply. But i tried this one before. But it didn't solve this issue. I'll try one more time... How could hardware (both bluetooth and Wi-Fi) be bad? There must be a way to return it back... I'll update this as i try again the original file...

I'd assume that the same chip runs both as is usually the case for embedded systems. If the original firmware doesn't work, the it's likely a hardware issue.
I tried a new update and bluetooth worked for once. And then stopped again. And I sent to warranty they said they cannot change all mainboard cause it'll cost near phone's cost. And after I see Bluetooth works for once I thought may be it's radio based problem. How can I update the original radio update only? Thanks in advance...
I have got exactly the same problem.
I have already sent it back to motorola under warranty and they changed a few things. It work for about a day and then exactly the same.
I thought the update to froyo would work, it did for a day and then reverts back to the same problem.
Have you solved this yet?
well, my wifi is acting wierd... reception is good and it doesn't disconnect too often, theres just this little anoying thing!
everytime roughly 3-4 days after i flash a new rom my wifi simply refuses to connect to network, and not a specific one, any network at all!
and it stays like this for a couple of hours and then all of a sudden it picks up a a networks and it works fine for a while, untill i happens again...
i've tried restarting and taking out the battery and turning the wifi off for a while, nothing seems to help, he just decides on his own when he is whilling to connect again....
if i flash a brand new rom the problem disapear for a few days but then it comes back... i'm assuming it has to do with some sort of a cache that is filling up with loads of crap and ruining the wifi activity but i tried googling for this and found nothing..
ideas anyone? (btw this happens on all roms: stock, existenz, beanstalker etc...)
its a hardware problem and not so uncommon look here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2531711
if you can take it to a customer support and if you cant sell it and again if you cant, then just get along with no wifi/bluetooth/NFC check all of them you should have problem with them too

to me that sounds like the start of it because mine was the same at the first few days flashing a new rom or something would help alot but then i just found out the only thing that was helping it to get fixed was the heat from the device not the rom, but it doesnt hurt to play around with it a little so go ahead and try some other roms or repairs.
you see good reception for wifi
you try to connect
at the authorizing or connecting you will see only one point of signal and connection would kinda like disappear.
this is how it was for me but at the first days it was random it was connected good and ready, when i would left the phone in stand by after a few minutes it would DC, so i thought its kind of a sleep mode malfunction or something but after a few days almost 1-2 weeks it turned out to be hardware problem like ohers so if you see any symptom like that start looking for service centers.
but i hope it would be a software problem for you, so good luck.
Well, once he connects he stays on for days, no problem there... Just sometikes he refuses to connect... Pressing the nfc button doesnt help...

What Wi-Fi channel is your network on and have you tried 5GHz?
Didn't look into those things, but it happens with all networks except ones without passwords
Sent from my C6903 using Tapatalk
Have you tried deleting wpa_supplicant.conf in data/misc/wifi and reconnecting to the network? (this will delete all saved passwords and settings for known wi-fi networks) also try to disable Auto IP in advanced wi-fi settings
Well the phone is qith my sister now, I got a new z1 so far wifi worka for her, it stoppes for a few hours yestarday but came back, I might try to flash. 310 and see if it works better with it. And the Wapa_sup sounds like a good idea. Btw z1 is also jittering some with wifi, it's a global Sony problem...

temp solution?
Well, it is probably a hardware problem. I have had the same problem, everything looks fine, but you can't connect to any network.
So, searched, reinstalled, etcétera, nothing worked. Untill I read a crazy solution link://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperia-Z-ZL-ZR/xperia-zr-wifi-association-rejected/td-p/516275/page/4
and found out that if you put pressure on the back of your pone right at the NFC chip, with a finger or so, the Wifi will come alive again.
Personally I had to hit my pone's back at that exact spot with my finger (for not damaging it with excesive force) a few times, but then suddenly it worked.
So, I am convinced it's a hardware problem. Hope it works for other people too.
Hey. So I've faced a kinda strange issue. The watch seems to be connected to the phone, everything is okay. I get notifications etc. However, once i try to use "Ok, Google", it seems that simultaniosly the watch looses it's connection and i get that red circle trying to hear me out and, finally, no connection with crossed cloud logo. This situation occurs when wifi is turned off\automatic\forced to my local wifi. My cellphone is Xiaomi mi note. Please advise if any1 of you had the same problem and how can it be solved.

Factory reset = restore default from the menu, i presume?
Okay, the solution to the issue occured in the manner i did not expect it to be. I should have activated the voice recognition thru BT devices. (google->settings->voice). However, since i own a chinese phone - that topic may rise on phones without preinstalled g-apps (and google search bar accordingly). So in case any1 has that problem - check that bar.

No. The problem occurs randomly, plus I swap firmwares on my phone, so there is none "stable" source of problems. On the other hand i believe that it happens less nowadays. mb android_wear.app did something to this, or watch firmware.
My phone suddenly won't turn on wifi. It doesn't show any near wifi available and there is no Mac address. I have tried everything, factory reset, clean the cache, repaired through pc companion, and nothing. Phone without wifi is useless. Please help If anyone solved this problem

I have look everywhere but seems like is no solution for it. I'm not sure if flash with custom room would be a way. It might be a hardware problem. I can't sent my to Sony because there is not warranty anymore.

Ok, my warranty expired too! I also tried software repair and still not working and i now see that Bluetooth also is not working.
Hey guys. I fixed this on my phone about a month ago. So far no one has commented if it has helped them or not, but here is my post again. Let me know if it helps.
I had this problem on my Z3c for a while (as well as no wifi or bluetooth). My device is well out of warranty. I received a RMA number last week to send it in in hopes that it would be an affordable fix. I was getting it ready to send out today and decided to try a couple more things.
As others have said, I went in to the diagnostics and test the WiFi (passed) Bluetooth (passed) and GPS (failed). I then decided to test WiFi and Bluetooth a couple more times to see if it would eventually fail. It never did. After that, I went to turn WiFi on manually and to my suprise.... it turned on! Bluetooth and GPS were also magically working.
Before this I had tried numerous factory resets, diferent android versions, different roms (without unlocking the bootloader) with no success. I'm not sure exactly what happened, but hopefully it can work for some of you!

I have exactly the same problem but only one thing is different that my Bluetooth is working. There only problem is wifi. I belive that is no hardware problem. There must be some kind of glitch in software where you accidentally doing this things jumped over. I have tried your tip. No success. Im going to do this every day to see if I have luck. My Bluetooth and wifi passing test every time GPS is failing.

Yes, please do post back your results. I'm not sure if what I did was a fluke of what, but I was shocked when I saw my WiFi turn on. Almost every other post I have seen about this either stops getting replies or the OP sent it in for repair numerous times.

I have done exactly the same things like you described. No luck. Strange my Bluetooth is working only wifi can't be switch on. GPS is failing on test like yours. What has the GPS to do with wifi? I don't know if there is any connection.

Sorry, I can't help with that. I don't see it on my phone either. I have no idea what that folder is or what it does either.
F*ck, I have same problem, wifi won't turn on. Few times after phone was turned off for long time it worked but mostly just stuck. Bluetooth works so can I be sure it's not a hardware problem?
Hello
My wife's phone has some serious issues that make the phone unusable.
For no reason apparently, suddenly the phone is losing network, wifi and 4g, it's losing it after some minutes of use.
And sometimes it randomly reboots.the same, we do nothing and it crashes.
Really strange.
so I tried :
Factory reset phone , wipe cache, reinit wifi, etc.
I also tried without sim card, with another sim and her sim in my phone. The strange thing is that all cases seems to be working. The only combo that fails is her sim card with the mi8.
Any idea guys?
I also contact xiaomi and send them the crash log using their system.

I had the same problem, it was analyzed by several technicians and concluded that it was the main bord that died. If your problem is software contact this person he will solve the problem for you. https://www.facebook.com/sohel2589
Due to the lack of solutions, we sent it back to xiaomi. Now we are waiting for them to repair it.
Reading and reading I have come to the conclusion that the Xiaomi mi 8 came out with a factory fault in the welds under the processor and it is for that reason that many owners of these equipment suffer from loss of data, WiFi, signal and with random reboots , I for my part trying I managed to mitigate this problem by placing a thermal pair between the processor and the case making pressure and so far it does not fail
Quick review :
The phone came back today from xiaomi.
They noticed a problem with the sim slot, and they just did a system update and say it's OK.
Of course it's not, it's not working.
Just a look in sim options, I see it appears, disappears, appears, etc...
I tried some tricks but I think the slot contacts are dead. I retried with my own sim card, and it doesn't work work at all this time.
So we are going to send it back, one more time...
I have same problem here. I've already doing all. factory reset, wipe, etc, take the sim out but nothing's work. The worst part it also cannot connect to wifi when the mobile connection off. What do you think the problem is? is it hardware problem?

As I said in my previous post, it is not a software problem, it is a more specific hardware problem of the SoC (System on Chip) which is basically CPU, GPU, NPU, RAM AND BASEBAND which is why we are left without WiFi, SIM and random reboots
The problem is in Wifi Interface chip, phone reboots because is crashing, lag and overheating caused because of error dumps that created because of dead wifi, bt, gps, sim.
There is a fix, i repaired a Xiaomi Mi Note 3 yesterday and a Pocophone F1 with exactly same problem!
I will post solution at least tomorrow after search the schematics! Stay tuned!!!

Wifi Interface Chip is responsible for Bluetooth, FM, WiFi and Baseband enable. It's not CPU related problem!!!!

I am eager to see the solution you found, my only doubt is that you say you fixed a Pocophone F1 I suppose with the same problem, my doubt is if you have used the equipment constantly for more than a week since when solving the IC of the WiFi Xiaomi mi 8 works for about 3 days but it returns to the same
Some news about my issue :
For the 2nd time we sent the phone to xiaomi. But this time, they changed the motherboard. Now the device seems to be working fine again.
