What is the difference between the att and this device? - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have the rogers HTC one. Which forum do I use?
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app

x2 I also have a Rogers version and I don't know which forum to use. I know with previous phones from Rogers, I would use the at&t forum of the same device, but with the HTC One, it seems like some people are using this forum to flash roms
So I'm confused

There was a chart somewhere that broke down which were the same device. I remember on that list the T-Mobile(US), International, AT&T, and Dev were the same model just different firmwares. The rest I don't remember. I saw it in these forums somewhere.

In terms of what forum you should use, it shouldn't matter on GSM devices, from my understanding. The firmware is cross-compatible even though the radios support different bands.
But don't take my word for it!!! Someone smarter than me will hopefully confirm.

I think you are talking about HTC One variants [U/UL/WL] which shows the differences among the M7 variants.
I believe the Rogers and ATT versions are extremely similar. I have the ATT version and have been flashing the International roms without issue.

Sorry I have a stupid question. Does Android Revolution HD count as an Int Rom?

Yes, although mike1986 did make arrangements for the variants during the install of the Rom within Aroma Installer.

[Q] Will We Get S-OFF?

Hi
I have been away from HTC with my last two phones. Do folks find that HTCDEV unlock provides all that is needed or will devs still be trying to S-Off the One?

S-off will need to be figured out by developers. HTC's unlock only unlocks the bootloader and maintains S-On.

I'll tell you straight forward.
Nope, not from htc
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
Not from HTC. Not even the developer edition of this device will have it. You need to rely on devs for that. The HTC one s got S-off 7-8 months after its release. HTC devices are known to have a rather lack luster developer basis.

The HTC evo 4g lte go s off in a month or so after release. The rest of the one x series took longer since it was more difficult to s off a device without sd support; however, one x did eventually get s off as well as the DNA (a few months after release). with that said, those developers now know how to approach a Qualcomm device without external sd support. So its just a matter of time. Give it about a month or so after the device has released in the major markets.

I just wanted to add that with the hboot 1.12, the first one when htc evo lte came out, we can flash any kernel or rom just being htc dev unlocked only. We did s-off just future prove the device. I am sure there are some people still now on hboot 1.12 who flash roms and kernels, and aren't s-off.

Not really a fact of "it took nine months" or whatever. When the exploit/method was discovered by the geniuses behind it, it was used on nearly all the HTC devices of the time that are similar: One X S4, One S, DNA, etc
Its just a matter of developing the exploit and being able to use it properly in the public. Although I love having S-off on my phone now, I am prepared to wait a bit before unlocking my bootloader/performing s-off
Another thing to note is that according to jcase's tweet a month or so ago the One is CID write protected :/

What does that mean in relation to custom ROM and kernels development?
the s4 have the same processor, soo problably we will get this device s-off, plus its a qualquom processor, its more easy then tegra processor
i looked at the video for s-off for the htc one x, one s, Dna... etc & they require SuperCid, (unless there's other ways that don't need it). I'm assuming Cid being write protected means 'impossible' for superCid on the One?

Nothing unless some devs decide to boycot because of the bootloader unlock not being very unlocky
It will be much harder with s-on to update firmware and stuff though, as well has having to flash boot.img manually with every rom/kernel install (unless there is dumblock)
This would be an absolute pain with kernels packaged as a zimage (there are repackers available for the HOX but still)
As much as I want a One every time I read a review, I am in no rush to upgrade from my S-On One X this time around until this is done, the amount of **** I have to do just to update a ROM that is updated daily is a complete pain.

Actually xhausx has a script to incorporate into updater-script thaf can flash the boot.img automatically for you on ROM install. No need for seperate flash anymore.

Yes blend! Look here
I said never again after the HTC One X debacle and I meant it - but not so much for the inconvenience, for me its the principle.
I shall wait to see how it pans out - but without s-off I'm gonna try the S4 I think. Been loyal to HTC a long time, but they've changed and maybe its time for a change for me.
That said hopefully this will be resolved quickly with the Qualcom chipset.
Thinking the same, but I won't buy an S4.
I will stick with my perfectly capable One X.

I did love my Q1Ultra once. A lot has changed in the arena since then. Does that count?
And maybe if there was more devving on the Asus Padfone2?
Staying on topic though. Very hopeful someone will s-off this qualcom device so we can all play nicely again on a flag ship HTC.

Cincinnati Bell HTC One could skip Android 4.2, go straight to 4.3

http://www.androidcentral.com/cincinnati-bell-htc-one-could-skip-android-42-go-straight-43
If true this COULD happen On the major carriers as well, hence the "small" update recently.
I saw that article, and while I wouldn't really mind, I'm not sure if I believe it. Other countries have already gotten 4.2.2 for the GSM One.

It does seem strange to me that we haven't seen 4.2.2 on the sprint htc one... As I recall on the HTC 4glte the update to 4.1 came fairly quick. I think HTC just said fk it let's release 4.3 which has back end features that we benefit from. 4.2 isn't such a big deal when HTC has highly customized version of android.

No GSM carriers in the US have updated to 4.2.2. But, Europe and Asia have gotten the update, which does work on ALL GSM phones, in any country.
However, there are no CDMA carriers (maybe a few, but it's a very small number) outside of the US, so the CDMA version (Sprint) has no update yet.

Yes I know this, My question initially was if anyone knew if Cincinnati Bell was GSM or CDMA. If they were CDMA I could see HTC saying the same for us. That is not the case, they are GSM which means skipping the update for them seems rather weird.

I would imagine that HTC has 4.3 and probably has probably had it for months now. I'm wondering who they're working with to release it to, as far as carriers are concerned.

This is exactly why I have been wondering why people are pissed about a lack of 4.2.2 on the Sprint HTC One. There aren't that many new features to justify the outrage and there aren't any performance enhancements... 4.2.2 is barely a step up from 4.1.2 (the main improvements relate to tablets).

I disagree (regarding tablets), but that's mainly due to how fast Google's native implementation of quick toggles grew on me. It makes more Sense though for a 4.3 update, given that a fairly long time has already passed since the last point release and the relatively minor changes (compared to 4.0->4.1).
Then again, I'm also mildly concerned that the real story here is that Sprint's carrier testing is taking longer than it should and we'll just get a delayed 4.2.2 update instead.

If you want quick toggles, just installed ViperRom... The changes aren't important enough to justify spending a lot of resources into upgrading the OS. The main changes in 4.1.2 -> 4.2.2 are in tablets, specifically multiple user implementation in the tablet environment.

And I think Cincinnati Bell is a joke as far as a wireless carrier is concerned. I live in the Cincinnati area, and their service is terrible. I don't see them getting an upgrade to 4.3 before anyone else. They usually trail behind everyone else in their release of phones.

[Q] Will general KitKat update be the same as Developer Edition KitKat?

The HTC One Developer Edition got KitKat almost two months ago, and we've seen plenty of Sense roms released with KitKat as a result. However, is the official update that's supposedly coming out this month for regular non-developer edition phones going to be any different?
If not, why is there a delay at all?

Nope, it isn't gonna be any different. Its just taking time because of carrier modifications and many intermediate testing and approval stages. Read the HTC update chart that had come up on the xda portal a few weeks ago.

this is mostly right .. but AT&T have never followed the same path and their RUU and updates often include different radio's different hboot different touchscreen drivers and are better suited to AT&T US phones
(more fine tuned if you will). The basic kitkat will be the same but that's about it.

Sprint user maybe converting to T-Mobile

Been a sprint user for 10 years and am debating switching to T-mobile mainly because sprint service is horribad where I live. Just wondering how T-Mobile devices are to root and if a lot of developers make custom Roms for them. I have read the bootloaders are typically always unlocked which is awesome so I assume a lot of developers like T-Mobile, just hoping for some feedback from some current or former T-Mobile users. Thanks much for your help and info
You can use any international ROM on T-Mobile Samsung phones. So...Very good.
I'm finally giving up my Sprint SERO plan for T-Mobile after 12 years, so I'm looking forward to better performance and development too.

No it's just that people make more ROMs and mods for the European device than the US ones. It doesn't do anything for traveling...its the same exact software without the carrier bloat.

Best Note 5 Model for modding?

hi fellow XDA peeps,
Please don't bash me... i did some research but still need a bit of advice....
I am interested in purchasing a Note 5, can someone tell me which version/model of the Note 5 is the best for modding and would most likely be the one with lots of custom roms?
I know it might be a bit early to say this but, I'm hoping that you guys can still give me some advice. I did some research and saw that there is a custom rom or two out right now, especially here on XDA but, i noticed this is specifically for the N920 I/C/G. : http://forum.xda-developers.com/note5/development/n920i-dr-ketan-rom-l1-t3195076
Also, I read that the T-Mobile version comes with an unlocked bootloader. Does the other models come with an unlocked bootloader as well?
I would greatly appreciate your help guys and any other advice concerning Note 5 versions/models, modding, custom roms, unlocked/unlocking bootloaders is most welcomed.
sooooooooo......
1) best version/model for modding and most likely to have most custom roms?
2) which version/model comes with unlocked bootloader/s?
Many thanks in advance,

"Best for modding" is irrelevant if you can't use the phone for voice/data. So, why not start with telling us where you're physically located and what carrier you have. That may significantly limit your choices.

thx buddy.
I'm located in the Caribbean, we have blazing 4G networks and excellent voice/data services. My present carrier is Digicel but we also have Bmobile (TSTT) here.
I ask "best for modding" because I'm big on installing custom Roms and having full access to the device and what it could do. I could be wrong, but from my understanding devices with unlocked bootloaders are the preferred choices for developers to work on, mod, etc.
thx,
Ronald
Here's the best I can offer you:
Head to this website: http://www.willmyphonework.net/
The following devices have more support on XDA than the others: n920t (tmobile - but they come sim-locked), n920i, n920c. Find the device that works best with your carrier. Eliminate the tmobile choice if needed due to it being sim-locked.

Quite honestly, I'd do my homework and whatever google searching required to find out which LTE bands are supported by the carrier or carriers I use. Then I'd make sure that whichever model I got supported those LTE bands.
Quite often, a carrier might still be rolling out support for an LTE band and it doesn't show on that site I linked to. For example, AT&T in the US is rolling out LTE bands 5, 29 and 30 in some regions, but that site knows nothing about them.... (I can excuse band 29 because it's used for downlink only, and band 30 because they JUST started rolling that out in very few areas.)

nice nice, thanks for the heads up....this what our networks here runs on:

But, the issue is not really the band/s though, its the version that most likely developers would choose to work on and have lots of custom Roms/developments? whatever model that may be, that is the model i would i like to buy. For now it seems like if i can't obtain an unlocked N920T then the next best variant should be the N920I, then N920C. Correct me if I'm wrong in anyway please..lol
