Well I decided to call Google about the boot loader recovery not working as it should. I was hoping this call would help them to work on another update but they say that's the way its supposed to work. Here's the email Instructions:
1. Power down your device
2. Press and hold both volume keys and the power button to enter
Bootloader mode
3. Press the volume keys to cycle to the Recovery mode option
4. Press the power button to select Recovery mode
5. From the Recovery mode screen, press and hold the Power button then
press the Volume up button.
6. Use the volume buttons to select wipe data/factory reset.
7. Select Yes -- delete all user data.
8. The factory data reset process will now start. Once its finished,
select 'Reboot system now.'
The only option we have in the new recovery is to wipe data. Maybe for those having problems accessing twrp or cwm will be able to a access it with step 5. I don't know haven't rooted yet. So I decided to ask about nvflash and they said they're not going to release any nvflash tools or files.
um, yup. thats how stock bootloader and stock recovery work. lol
whats the issue? if your not even rooted, you wouldn't even know if you have an issue or not with the new bootloader.
Are you saying that you can't flash a different recovery? Or that when you do you still get the same stock recovery? I'm not quite sure what the issue is here, because that is exactly how the stock bootloader, and recovery are supposed to work.
Are you making sure to unlock fastboot before trying to flash recovery. I don't recall seeing or hearing anyone say anything about not being able to get to clockwork mod once its installed.

No. I saw people posting they couldn't get go cwm and could only see the red exclamation point. And I was just saying maybe after choosing recovery then holding volume up and power it would then go to cWm or twrp. I was hoping for someone to try it who is still on 3.41 Recovery. A lot of people downgraded back to 3.39 or whatever version it was

I can confirm that to get in to the stock recovery you hold down 'power' and then tap 'vol up'.
At present I am running the latest CWM touch recovery. This boots straight into it from the bootloader without any extra button presses.
My personal preference to go into CWM is from either QuickBoot or ROM Manager.

I wonder why some on 3.41 can't go straight to twrp and some can. Sorry for the ahole comment I thought you were trying to be a smartass towards me. I'm just trying to find out as much info from people before I root. I am experienced at flashing and a little adb but I just read a lot of HELP BRICKED MY NEXUS posts. Did you use wugs toolkit or adb to unlock and root?

When I first flashed TWRP onto my Nexus 7 after that official 4.1.2 OTA update, I wasn't able to boot into it. I then flashed it again via fastboot, and then booted the TWRP image that was on my computer, and then TWRP loaded.
I believe TWRP does work normally now as well (I can boot into it and reboot into it).

Well if I was you I'd just use mskips toolkit, its absolutely epic it'll save you a lot of farting around. I take it that your fully updated? ( Not that it matters) You seem to know and understand your way around adb so just go for it and enjoy.
Its works smooth as silk and save you a lot off time. The options available to you are just staggering!

going to recovery from bootloader works fine after 3.41.....wat r u talkin abt? (i m stock rooted+twrp)
oh yea...u hav 2 remove that recovery stock.p file thingy first.
There are plenty of people that are having issues with recovery on 3.41 bootloader.... Its confirmed some have it some don't.
The issue is that with 3.41 bootloader on some Nexus 7 Devices a custom recovery is unbootable no matter how you try, every time it will try to load recovery and fail at a black screen then reboot into the OS. It does not matter how you try from ADB reboot to recovery or from bootloader with USB attached or not.

Ohh crap I read about that in some thread. Any idea exactly what has to be done. The only way I can get into cwm is with ROM toolbox but I have to reflash cwm every time then hit boot into recovery.

In your system folder there's a file called 'recovery-from-boot.p'
Go into a file manager with w/r access and rename it ' recovery-from-boot.p.bak'
When the system boots it reads that file and resets the recovery to stock, by changing the name you remove the problem.

First of all - Please format your posts into paragraphs. People don't like reading a wall of text and will probably make it less likely for you to receive help.
(Im going to assume you haven't made a Nandroid backup and made a safe copy)
I'm new to Android a couple of months so there will be people on here with more experience than me who might be able to help you with an easier/quicker method, but this is what I would do:-
Download the latest Android Revolution HD (a Sense-based ROM that is the same as stock but better - read about it), other Sense-based ROMs are available but I like ARHD.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2183023
Rename it to something like arhd.zip
Use the All-in-one-toolkit to side-load the ROM to your phone. It will begin to install automatically. Use the volume/power keys to install - it makes it less likely for the installer to crash.
There would be no need to root as ARHD comes already rooted.
You could also look/ask around for a Nandroid backup of your device/carrier and adb side-load to your phone but that would be more work for you. This would put your phone back to stock like new again. The best guide I've seen on here for people new to flashing, backups, etc. is here... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2265618
**Tampered** happens I think when you flash a custom recovery. S-ON is normal - don't worry about it.
Good Luck. Hope I've helped...
If I've made any mistakes here, someone please correct me...

To be honest mate I can't totally remember, I've only used it once and it's been a few weeks since I messed my phone up and had to use the toolkit sideload to fix it. I'm on a Mac at the moment so can't even check. It wasn't too hard to figure out though!
The toolkit (by hasoon) you already have is the toolkit I'm talking about. Sideload is just installing the ROM from somewhere else when it's not stored on your phone. (i.e. on your PC).
The installer (if you get that far) is called 'Aroma' and quite buggy when using the touchscreen so just use the volume keys to move around the options and the power button to select them.
Ty lol, Im currently using volume and power button to moving in the bootloader, it a brand new phone and im panic lol. Ill try all of that tomorrow

Like I said, I can't remember 100%, but its in the toolkit under 'Extras' -> 'Sideload a ROM' or something similar. It might even guide you through the steps. There's probably guides and videos online somewhere. Just call your zip file something simple to help reduce the chance of error.
Not sure I understand what you're saying... If you press recovery, you're taken to the recovery screen?

Try to push it to your device without the toolkit. Read this site
http://m.androidcentral.com/android-201-10-basic-terminal-commands-you-should-know
Use adb push command to send the ROM to your phone while in fastboot mode. Once it's on your phone, just go into recovery and install it from zip.
Place the 'android-tools' folder you download from that site directly onto your c:/ drive, not on your desktop etc. It just makes it easier.

Forgot to say - put the arhd.zip ROM into that folder also.
Try to go into recovery first to see what folders you have, if any. I had a folder called '0' when I messed up so my command would have been
adb push arhd.zip /sdcard/0

Hi everyone
After a lot of reading i decided to install a ROM. Now i was able to try to but none of them worked, so i ve been trying now for 3 days. I think i did it all as stated in this forums, it launched but never go to really open the OS, used to get stuck at the motorola or nexus logos or what ever logo from the different ROMs i downloaded.
I was able to go back to the original ROM but today im not being able to do so...
What can i do? Im at recovery and im able to restore boot but at system it says:Error while restoring /system!
I had it backedup at pc so i have also removed the one at sd card and tried with the one from PC.
What can i do (that doesnt involve getting another phone)
You can try RSDLite to flash back stock ROM just be careful and flash right ROM, otherwise you can brick your phone. You can't flash custom ROMs with RSD.

Boot the phone into bootloader/fastboot?
You have an unlocked bootloader and custom recovery installed? I assume you have both since you were trying to install custom ROMs.
I have tried to the fastboot... im trying AP fastboot and theres where i am stuck right now.
Yes custome recovery and unlocked bootloader there. I had the phone moved to another couple of roms but the never loaded correctly so i went back to my original ROM, i tried a few other ROMs and none worked so this time i try to go back but it doesnt come back anymore...
Try downloading PhilzAdvanced CWM Recovery. It is based off the latest CWM and should be able to flash your backups or ROMS. Maybe not your backups unless you made them with a CWM based recovery, but it should get you booted up.

1. Read the Myth Tools OP
2. Download Myth Tools
3. Download Philz CWM
4. Download a stock fastboot
5. Place the fastboot zip and the extracted recovery/cwm.img in their respected folders
6. Run Myth's executable and follow the instructions
7. If that doesn't work then read the faqs here and in the RAZR HD forums, all your questions have been answered already.
Still with same issue...
Phone is not recognized by the computer (tried 3 different laptops)
Cannot download the Drivers as its an automated process that begins when you connect the phone...
Does anyone knows an alternative to install AHD drivers ?

Again, my main issue device not detected by pc... so i cant download drivers using automatic tools that detects the phone because again phone is not detected and mythtools goes straight to the motorola device manager which needs a phone connected to act... so in a very bad circle i am... and i would try to use someone else phone but here in Costa Rica i know of noone else with a Motorola phone... everyone thinks it no longer exists... and i havent found a way to download the specific drivers for my specific device in a way it doesnt require to be connected.

Nice i managed to flash the philztouch recovery... the damn phone doesn't want to accept any ROM... keeps aborting them. So far thanks a lot... ill read like crazy today again and ill ask for help if failure salutes me again!

It finally works
It works... i think somehow the recovery stopped working at some point... now with Philz phone was recognized by pc and i was able to use Myth tools to do the job. I think this will be my last Motorola...
Things to highlight:
1 i did read a lot before doing anything, still somehow screwed up, did read lots before asking here, still needed to ask... got answers, still needed to ask more... it was fun as everyone at work said: " its bricked fool buy a new one and stop playing to be good at something" but hell yeah its fixed!
2 i will try again to install another rom, i wont give up damn it!
3 i might begin with my wife Note 1, its old so its ok to brick it ha ha ha
4 damn it guys you are cool... wish i were 10% of you guys!
5 I think instead of all those different options out there we should recommend only to use the myth tools, its a complete package and its easy to use even with examples for newbies like me.
Again thanks and questions on friday after i brick it again e he he he...
The other stuff is there so you can understand what the automated stuff is actually doing.

Ok so i have started the process again. I cant tell what i am doing wrong. I have flashed 2 different roms and none worked... its like im missing something.
I root the device, unlock bootloader... set the recovery with cwm... flash the rom... and it goes to moto logo and then black screen... am i missing something?
I did the exact same for the stock rom and it did work... also i did it all exactly the same using now myth tools... so any ideas? Should i leave the phone alone because its just simply not going to work or am i missing anything?
Hello together,
i used search and the suggested topics but i cannot see the same problem as i have.
Recently i rooted my 4x hd with success (i used Kingo Android Root, as i found here in the forums) because i want to install Cyanogen Mod, installed Rom Manager and downloaded the CWM Recovery (not the touch one, the lates it can find, 6.# or something was it) through that. Then it got installed and finished without error. Of course i gave Super SU right to Rom Manager. Its shown as installed in Rom Manager too.
So the problem starts when i want to boot into the CWM, no matter wich way (through volume down + power or in Rom Manager with the "boot into CWM" option. When i try this all i get is 2 lines in minimal red font on a black screen. I forgot was was written there but it was really hard to come out of that. Finally the phone booted normally. I tried it 2 more times, with same results. I also re-isntalled the CWM over the Rom Manager, it just stays like this.
Whats wrong?

You did unlock your bootloader, didn't you?
If not your bootloader gets screwed and you have to reflash kdz (search for tutorials).
You can't boot into cwm because if the BL is locked, you don't have the permission to change recovery/rom
(not actually permissions I think but easier to describe it that way).
So the recovery is now corrupt and there's no way beside the one I already mentioned
(you can try to unlock your BL but I don't know if it's possible in your state.

Thanks for the fast answer. Makes sense,
In the tutotial i followed that time was unlocking bootloader not mentioned, i didnt do this by hand, no. Honestly i thought this will be done by the root tool.
Edit: found your answer to that, sorry.
Anyway, so can i still do this now or did the bootloader got already srewed on first try when accessing CWM?
Sorry I was a bit incorrect. The bootloader should be fine (at least when you reflash kdz as the stock recovery will get flashed as well). After that you can unlock your boot loader and flash any custom ROM.

Thanks.
I did it in another way, i think it solved it too (probably its doing the same...). I downloaded the LG Support Tool from website and used the Option "Repair Upgrade-Errors/ Behebe die Update-Fehler" without to really know what happens (hehe) and it seems to reflashed some important things, without to wipe any data though. Anyway, the root is gone now but i can go into the LG Recovery at least.
What bugs me a bit is the question if this LG recovery is the standard or if theres still a problem? Because the "recovery" i mean is only a picture with an LG Logo and something like "LG Recovery Mode -- Service Center. After put out and re-insert battery use the power button to keep using the phone."
Is this the real recovery? I had a lot of phones but never saw a recovery like this...
Hi. So I have a N6 which I appear to have bricked in some way. The phone was bootloader unlocked, rooted, everything. Then I got cute and just wiped everything off the phone, in my haste and stupidity. Now I seem unable to get it back to working status.
I am willing to pay someone to do this for me, as I need to know if it is salvageable, or just something to use for parts.
Any enterprising person is encouraged to respond. Thanks for the consideration.
More details please?
"Wiped everything off the phone"? How? In TWPR or Factory Reset? In ADB?
Does it boot at all? Does is partially boot and get stuck at Google screen or boot animation? Do you see any light at all coming from it?
Can you boot into Bootloader (Volume Up+Power) or Recovery (Volume Down + Power)?
Need just a bit more information before a proper diagnosis can be performed.
sounds like you did a "full" wipe, full as in everything. what you want to do is move a rom, a kernel, and supersu to your phone and flash it. you can do that via adb, or just with twrp.

Just fastboot flash the latest factory image. There is a thread here that explains how to do it.

Thanks for replying.....I believe I wiped the phone in TWRP. When I plug the phone in, I get the Google logo pop up, then disappear. That's all I get. I cannot boot into Bootloader or Recovery, to my knowledge.

Either flash a stock rom in fastboot or adb sideload a custom rom in TWRP, you`re not bricked. Did you format the sdcard or wipe the OS?

Just in case you don't know: to boot into bootloader hold volume down and power from an unpowered state (phone off). After that: fastboot stock or flash a custom ROM through TWRP.

I believe I wiped the OS & everything from the phone.
You didn't wipe the bootloader.
Hold volume down, then hold power.
The phone will boot to fastboot mode and you can use fastboot to flash the factory image... Google supplies complete instructions on this on the factory image page, and there are tons of guides here....
Fastboot to stock and leave your phone stock until you learn at least the basics of what your doing.
BTW you had to do this to even get TWRP on your phone but you were lazy and used a toolkit instead of learning how to flash images to your phone, and as a result you have no idea how to fix anything
This is why we don't use toolkits kids.

I suppose thanks are in order. Admittedly, I messed up, and I did use a toolkit. But since lazy is a character trait and not necessarily an action, perhaps you can try and keep it positive. You don't know me, so don't characterize me. You can be helpful without beating your chest and calling people lazy. Happy Holidays!

I apologize for not offering free help up to your standards.
Problem Solved
With Woody's help, was able to download phone driver to my computer, after which I was able to use the toolkit again to download the 6.0.1 version of Marshmallow and flash it to my device. Thank goodness! Thanks Woody!

Especially here, because he didn't even try to learn this time either, and used a toolkit instead.

This is true. One should never mess with something when they dont know what they are doing. This is the major issue with toolkits. It makes people dumber.
Yes, I used the toolkit this time, but now that I am restored, really want to get into this, and I have downloaded the appropriate tools for doing this without a toolkit. Like I said to scryan, the tone here is pretty negative. I am really grateful for the help I was given. Have a good day everyone.
John, I have watched your thread with interest (catchy title... ) and I sort of agree that there is a certain negativity in some of the answers, particularly when it comes to toolkits. However, you didn't help your case with your comment "I suppose thanks are in order". Yes, they are. People here can be a bit prickly but everyone does try to help.
Good luck with learning more about manual updating. I've used Wugfresh's NRT many times with success, but it's actually very rewarding to type the commands and achieve the result on your own.
So, when do we get the money?
I want hard cold moolahhhhh
