EPST and enabling EVRC-B - Sprint HTC One (M7)

So ##DATA# seems to get you into EPST, but I'm not sure how to get my MSL as "MSL Reader" from Play Store doesn't work (I do have root).
I noticed that EVRC-B is enabled, but both HOME ORIG and ROAM ORIG is set to EVRC. I'd like to change this to EVRC-B.

I went to Sprint.com and initiated a chat session and told the person that I was going to enable evrc-b and that I need my msl. She willingly gave me the number with no issue.

Is there any reason why one would not want to switch this? I understand it's an improvement on the voice codec for calls, but it begs the question why it isn't used in the first place. Could there be limited support between devices or towers? Or is it only a limitation to the airraves as I recall reading this in the past?

I've used it on my last 2 phones for 3+ years and never had an issue.

I don't believe it works with Airaves and maybe some rural towers.

I have never used this option before but have seen it, what exactly are the pros and cons to using one or the other?
thanks guys

I did the same thing. I did an echat and instantly got my MSL. All I said was that I want to enable evrc-b and require my MSL and I got it within 2 minutes
Shifted from the bottom of the rabbit hole

Now, I know somethings. But there was a lot of other options inside that menu... I know evrc-b is an enhanced evrc codec but... What the he'll are the other options. 13k? IS-something?
Also, a Google search was vague. What is DDTM and why is it disabled by default? I read something about it being related to making voice calls with an active data connection.
Also, I did this which for some reason did increase my data speeds. Like noticeably. Or maybe not speeds, just more data integrity.
Under the PDM (last option) I changed the IP value from v4 to v4v6 (each option) and I noticed instant difference while using Chrome. Like a Web page I having an issue loading before (which is why I took a peek in the first place) loaded instantly. And I've had no issue since. At least not yet
Shifted from the ONE

I found this post here helpful too.. Thanks

Thank you. You gave me something else to Google and answered all my questions. Basically. With sprints choppy network EVRC-B should be the best all around. 13k could be good if you lived next to a tower. Lol.
Also, for those who don't know. If you ever do mess up something MINOR in these menus, ##SCRTN# and then reset values. The phone will reboot and then do a hands free activation. It will reset anything you did in those menus.
Except! Your Vocoder will not reset. Nor will your DDTM settings.
Everything else does. I did a little playing around. even killed my LTE at one point. Lol. Fixed it with the reset though. No more playing for me.
Shifted from the ONE

How does the update that includes HD voice get implemented and does switching to EVRC-B affect the implementation? I have read that HD voice is based in the EVRC-NW codec but I don't see that as a choice even after the update.
TIA

What exactly are you trying to do? Maybe try to restart you G1 or reboot it. I have never had this problem at all.Maybe check with some other users.
You should change the thread title to something more informative pertaining to your proble. Most of the time, the pros on here will pass by a thread just says help because they don't feel like entering a thread just to see if they *can* help at all. Also, it might allow others who have had the same problem and fixed to easily see your problem and come to the rescue.
Back to the problem at hand. Can you use the mobile data for anything? updating weather etc? If you can't then its probably something to do with your APN settings. Who is your carrier? T-Mobile? AT&T? To check what APNs you have now, go to: Settings>Wireless Controls> Mobile Network>APNs
If it is blank, that's why you can't connect, the phone doesn't know where to connect to. Simply type your carrier into google along with G1 APN settings (ie AT&T G1 APN settings) and they should tell you the correct settings to input in order for you to access your mobile network. Good luck.
P.S. Also add more information about what's going on with your phone so that we can figure it out quicker without having to ask you for everything one-by-one. You can tell us the ROM you're using, whether this is a new problem, or something that's never worked, your wireless carrier, your SSN (just kidding), but come on, some background info could make this process infinitely faster...

Running on Virgin Mobile - Sprint Activation Problems

Hey Guys,
I'm really liking my first Android phone, but am having a heck of time working out the kinks. Phone calls and text work. Here's a list and if anyone can help out with any of them, I'd really appreciate it.
1. The phone constantly tries to do Sprint Auto-Activation. I *believe* this is causing the GUI to crash constantly...I've tried three ROMs and none run very stable. Is there a way to disable that pesky auto-activate?
2. I need data settings for Virgin or Boost. Coming from an iPhone, I don't see a setting for an APN anywhere. I think I have the settings, but I'm not sure I'm putting them in the right place.
3. Is there a special ROM I should install since I'm not on Sprint? I'm surprised there aren't more Verizon ROMs around.
Please help with any suggestions.
Realized this should probably be in the "General" instead....

So your on virginmobile but with a cdma hero? Awesome to get to the apn settings just hold the green call button down till you get the voice dial or just do it from your menu. When it comes up say, "open apns". It will take you to the apns. Are you rooted? Also to get the phone to stop doing that pesky
Thanks for the help. I'm working on the APN stuff now. I think your last post got cut short. I'd really like to know how to disable to auto-activate crap. I'm also getting invalid username/password, but I'm sure thats just becuase its trying to log into Sprint.
So u can use sprint phones on virgin mobile? please how do u do this..that 25 buck plan looks to good to pass up.. How would i say use my hero on virgin mobile..
I'm only able to place calls and text. NO DATA which is driving me nuts. I need the APN/Data settings for VM, but no one seems to have them.
And my phone keeps trying to do Sprint auto-activation, which is also driving me nuts. And I keep getting GUI crashes no matter which ROM I use. So far the process has been anything but smooth.
Does anyone have ideas on disabling Sprint auto-activation? Thanks!

I knows this isn't much help but do a search for cricket. I saw a way earlier just gotta find it cuz i'm not doing anything i'll look to ..... try this enter ##data# then hit edit enter your msl then turn off vocoder. Also hit menu then commit changes
I'm pretty sure I seen an APK in the phone somewhere that was related to the over the air activation stuff... might wanna look for it.
I could be wrong, that may be for the Moment, but that's Android on Sprint too so I dont see why the Sprint Hero would be different.
I too am really interested in putting my Hero on Virgin Mobile US. Has anyone figured out the data settings for wap/apn and whatever else is needed? If not, if one were to purchase a cheap virgin phone, say a jax, could the information be taken from there?
Also, would it be necessary to use a non-sprint ROM since virgin mobile runs on the Sprint network???? Thanks for any help.
Ok, I tried the BitterSweet and the nags went away and everything is running smooth on my Hero...I'm really liking it. Just no DATA. I'm still waiting on settings from someone. I tried VM tech support and they didn't even know what an APN was...seriously.
Yes, you can buy a cheap $10 Virgin Mobile phone and use those "settings" for the Hero. That's all I'll say about that.

can program your apns in by holding down the green call button and saying "open apns" also try pushing ##data# and you'll get a menu with data and mms stuff. Another note I've been doing some research to avoid the overpriced $75 dollars to get the phone flashed to metropcs and (two things) one they say they've rooted the hero. Two they say that for a normal flash all they do is change the prl.
I've accessed the ##DATA# and APN menus, but I have no idea what to change them to. I've also looked into PRLs but I can't seem to find one for Virgin. I know they just use the Sprint network so wouldn't the PRL be the same?
If anyone is really interested in using the Hero on Virgin, Boost, or Cricket PM me. I searched the internet for hours finding all the info and I don't mind helping someone else out. The more people we get working on this, the more likely we are to figure these settings out.

**** I'm trying to get it to work on metro. My main thing right now is to stop it from doing the hands free activation. I know we have slightly separate goals but that is something we could work on together. What you really need is for the op of this thread to send you his prl.
I got rid of the Sprint Auto-Activation by installing BitterSweets ROM. It's working great so far.

Just realized you were the op can you upload your prl for others? A full nandroid would be awesome
The PRL I'm using is the standard one that comes with the Hero. I haven't changed it. I can upload it, but it should be one everyone has by default on Sprint. I forget the version...

[Q] 4.3 - Can anyone uncheck the voice and data roam guards?

It appears to be a new feature (based on a search the Galaxy S 4 from Sprint is having the same problem) that you can not disable the data and voice roam guards. They are checked and greyed out.
Can anyone on 4.3 uncheck these and if so what ROM are you on?

Strange I am on BadBoy and it is greyed out... Galaxy S 4 users are having the same problem.
I was able to disable them before my phone provisioned... looks like that may be where it is locking it.
I can't use any previous backups (which kinda sucks) but atleast I got them turned off.

I am sitting 100% stock (un-rooted for now), and I can remove the roaming guards, you may want to check with others using the same ROM as you.
I am also able to toggle them off and on, completely stock and unrooted. I read somewhere if you toggle data mode to CDMA only you can change them, then change it back to CDMA/LTE and they stick. Might wanna give that a try.
I'm on SwG 2.02 and can also check/uncheck all roaming guards.
Perhaps there is an incorrect build.prop edit.

I think it is a problem with having old settings on the phone... If I use the HTC restore then I lose the ability to uncheck them, when I do a clean flash without the restore I have no problem unchecking them.
Try a clean wipe (and don't use any restore programs like HTC) and see if you can uncheck them

If you have bluetooth integration in your vehicle, it is more than just an "irritating" message. It actually prevents you from using your car's bluetooth to dial your phone in roaming (the call will always fail unless you manually select the dismiss on the roam notification from the phone). This is more than just irritating. Also will prevent you from streaming music during trips (atleast when you pop in and out of roaming locations) because each time you enter a roaming location you will have to dismiss the guard before it will let you get data on the roaming network.

I guess I'll just chalk this experience up to HTC's notoriously amazing QA. Maybe I'll re-do my phone this weekend then. We are also having problems where all of our phones are having received SMS timestamps that are 1 hour behind (but only on sprint towers, and only in the tri cities - works fine roaming, in knoxville, or on airave...). Wonder if it's also related to restoring the backup or just Sprint being Sprint.

About 3 hours freeway driving. Knoxville is closer and I don't have the problem there. All 3 of our Ones are affected (and we aren't even on the same Sprint plan) but my buddy's iPhone is not. Also, the clock on my phone is always correct and it is set to get the time from the tower. It is only received SMS timestamps that are wrong. A conversation will look like this: Sent message 10:40AM Received message 9:41AM Sent message 10:42AM Received message 9:44AM etc.
I will just reset the phone this weekend, maybe it will be happy again.

APN issues on T mobile

Why is it that no matter what ROM I try I have the same issues. I should be able to delete every APN except the T-Mobile one that I use correct? Well sometimes when I do that I completely lose data and it doesn't come back until I add the other Apns back. That seems to tell me that the phone is using those even though I haven't selected them
Update.... I found an APN on tmobiles site specifically for the n6. My signal so far has been much better. It doesn't seem like the bars are jumping around as much when i m in one place like it used to and I have had bars in places where I would lose reception

I'm pretty sure most Roms have a default one that's similar to this. I just made the appropriate changes. Make sure where it says username and password if it has ******, delete it so it is "not set". Let me know how it works out for you. It could be just placebo and it's only been a day since I changed it. It's worked well so far, but previously there have been days where I want too throw this thing out the window because I can't use the internet or send a text

Nexus 6 5.1.1- Cannot Use Data While In Phone Call

Nexus 6 not multitasking?
I just purchased a Nexus 6 that I'm using on Verizon. The phone is completely stock(5.1.1). I've noticed that when I'm on a phone call, I'm unable to use Google maps or anything else that involves data. I was also listening to Sirius radio via the ap. When I tried reading a text, the Sirius player would stop playing. It's as if I'm unable to mulitask at all with the Nexus. Is this the case with this particular phone? I never had an issue with my Note 3? Thanks for any input...
Do you have advanced calling on your account? If so then it should work as it will use 3G data when your using VoLTE.
It's free, so if that's not already on the account add it and then it will work.

I have no idea. I never had a problem before the Nexus so I assume I do. I'll check though. Thanks!
Yup - Just log into the account and go to features - add that feature and then on the phone under cellular networks check the "advanced calling" thing (it might turn on by itself) - then it's for sure working.
why does verizon do tbeir system like this? lol. for nearly every other network, once you connect, everything works properly. oh well, i guess thats one reason that im not with verizon

Because not every phone has this ability - so why would they offer it or implement it on devices that can't use it? Then they would expect it to work, but since the device can't, it doesnt work - then the customer is all pissed. I agree that it's kind of dumb that you have to add it to the account prior to it working on the phone - I feel like if the phone can do it, and it's free anyway, why wouldn't it just add it from the git-go? That's kinda stupid.
They don't do it any weird or unusual way. The devices that CAN use it, have the option to use it, those that dont...dont.

they could do it the way GSM carriers do - if you have a device that supports that capability, it works. If not, it doesn't work. User doesn't have to go change any settings, or call carrier to change something on account etc.

The devices that CAN use it, have the option to use it, those that dont...dont.

every phone does have the ability, just not on verizon. my first smartphone i bought in 2003, and have been using data on voice calls with tmobile since then. the problem is that verizon isnt a gsm carrier but a cdma carrier. sprint has the same issue with vouce and data(at least verizon offers Volte), but not as much as verizon. att and tmobile never had the issue. many phones dont have this issue on verizon anymore because now they add two different radios to verizon phones, to catch a voice signal, and a data signal. on tmobile and sprint, they have one radio, because you can have voice and data on a gsm provider.
I was just speaking on a per-verizon service situation - since that's what the OP has. I know it has worked for a long time on other carriers.

Yup - Just log into the account and go to features - add that feature and then on the phone under cellular networks check the "advanced calling" thing (it might turn on by itself) - then it's for sure working.
