Auto dimming issue. - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So my one has this annoying issue. Every time I rotate it into landscape it auto dims to around 50%. Anyone have any ideas it's really agitating me.

When you rotate your phone you might be covering the light sensor with your thumb or palm while holding it.trying setting screen brightness to a value instead of auto and check if the screen still gets dim. If yes it might be a hardware issue

is your thumb covering the light sensor when you rotate? (the two black dots in the top left corner in portrait mode)
sometimes even if covered for a split second it will cause a dim condition

Come on guys, give me a bit more credit than that lol. No I was not covering it. Oddly enough it's only doing it either in the car dock or just coming out of the car dock. Hasn't done it since then. Will retest it when i get off work.

Are you wearing Sunglasses in your car? With polarized sunglasses, the screen will look dimmed in landscape.

Running a Navigation program in Car Dock? it might have a setting for screen brightness even if it was running in the background.

Auto Brightness Issue

About two weeks ago I turned on my Auto Brightness. Last week the screen just started going dim randomly. To be clear, its so dim I can't see anything unless its at a particular angle. Also (depending on how bright the screen was prior to going dim) if I apply pressure to the sides of my phone, just above the Menu and the red End button, the screen will become bright again. Since then I have turned off Auto Rightness and performed a hard reset yet the problem still occurs. Can someone please help me?
It hasn't been dropped, or been subjected to moisture of any kind. I've only had it for about two months. It was a replacement from Asurion Insurance. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Anyone? Any ideas? Haha, I'm desperate!

Auto brightness on our phones hasn't really been all that great, I've had random dimming or it'll go super bright in a dark room. mostly the issue is that auto brightness on phones is not all that great, they don't monitor the brightness of your surrounding but rather your face and that's where the problem lies.
My Auto Brightness isn't enabled. Yet the screen still goes super dim.

Make sure it isn't on, because it shouldn't happen if you have it set to a custom level
Haha damn, don't like the sound of that. Thanks for the help!

Buttons backlight on GB

Hi,
I find the fact that the buttons under the screen keep lit until you turn the screen off annoying. I often use the tab in the dark and even if you cover them up some of their light "contaminates" the bottom area of the screen, especially with dark images.
Is there any known way to get them working back as they did on Froyo? Maybe if someone could extract the old Froyo backlight driver I could try it on my tab...

I think its a great feature, especially for using in the dark as I often pressed wrong button accidentally. However I do think there should be some sort of setting to adjust when its on all the time and when its not etc.
Try an app called blinker I think from the market.

Auto brightness VS manual

Hey guys just wondering what kind of battery life people are getting with either of the settings on? I keep mine on a manual 50% and the battery seems OK, but I've seen real good reports of people using auto brightness too.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
If auto-brightness was a person, i'd punch in the face and kick it out of my house. I use manual brightness, about 40-50%, i get 8-10 hours out of it.
i use auto on n7 and gnex, no battery complaints.

lol... I have similar feelings
I love the auto brightness, but it makes the screen flicker on the N7
But I hate auto brightness on the iphone with a passion!

Normally I'd agree with you, but auto is actually working pretty well on the N7.

Auto seems to get stuck for me. I'll go in a dark room and it lowers brightness, but won't go back up when it gets light. Sometimes it's reversed.

Agree that the auto bright may have some issues. Sitting in a room with TV and a single lamp and the unit dims. Had to switch to manual to read

its supposed to be like that. Its bright in the sun so you can see and dim at night so still visible, but not hurting your eyes
Manual brightness setting on a tablet is good for me, since I use it inside 99% of the time. And I usually keep it fairly low.
On a phone, you really need a GOOD auto-brightness. What looks good inside can cause the screen to be invisible outside. Trying to navigate blind to adjust the brightness manually isn't always easy.
Overall, I would say the N7 has a good auto-brightness control from when I played around with it. Haven't tried outside though.
I like the auto brightness. I trued manual and auto and the auto gives me the same brightness level I would have chosen myself.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
I think the auto on the N7 is pretty good BUT I would like the ability to bump it up or down a bit. So whatever the sensor is calling for add or subtract a percentage to it. I like my tablet a bit brighter so I tend to use manual brightness most of the time. That's really the only setting I am missing with the "phone" style UI. I liked that brightness slider was right in the ICS tablet UI menu that popped up. I am getting 8 hours at 50% brightness most of the time.
I thought it looked rather dim with auto; I've been keeping mine on max brightness since shortly after I got it.

I know how it works, but if it brightens up in a light room it doesn't go down in a dark room and ends up searing my eyes like a tuna steak.

Disable accelerometer wakeup

Any way to do this? It doesn't work very well and it's probably just draining the battery.

Actually, if you move your wrist up in vertical motion while rotating the clock, it works almost 100% of the time.

Front LED notification light

Hey guys, I've been very impressed with my Flex and hardly ever put it down so I guess for awhile I didnt notice how bad the front LED is.
I've been busy the past few days and have not had much time to play with it and I have realized that I with some exceptions I am unaware of receiving anything on my phone that usually is notified to me via the front LED light of any of my previous phones with the exception of the idiotic Galaxy SII which required me to download an app that used the screen to display notifications.
It seems the one on the FLEX only works sometimes and its microscopic on top of that.
Anyone else with the same issue?
Or maybe a workaround I havent found yet?
Thanks!
You could work around this by flipping the phone over. The power button lights up for notifications in much the same manner as the front LED.
