Damn! Surely no one could build software that allows you to unlock the bootloader higher than 11w29? And make it free for people who suffer! Why are the owners of 11w29- happy freeloading, and we spent ... ( Now I have a 11w46 and I do not even know I can unlock the bootloader or not, because they never found the information about the 11w46 ... Can anyone be able to communicate clearly to me and describe poshagavo then at least all of the options unlock the free and paid, except those which are 100% turn my phone into a brick? My hands grow from there, hence the need, the head is clear, so no need to write me messages about what grows where my hands)))
Maybe this can help :
All Xperia 8 phones BEFORE 11W29 have a SECURITY HOLE and that allowed users to bypass the Locked Bootloader, essentially UNLOCKING it!
A lot of Xperia 8 phones AFTER 11W29 don't have that security hole BECAUSE Sony FIXED it in MOST devices!
Help?

Pretty annoying if you consider Sony could spend money on petty things (like "fixing" the bootloader) but won't spend twat on updating the firmware, whilst churning out phones they were certain not to support. Grossly unfair. They won't update the phone; now they ensure you can't either
If you missed to patch your security holes, someone will definitely take advantage.
I'm not against Sony nor support them but every company has its own protocol and business strategies.
Im sorry to hear that but thats the reality.
I did it!
Really! Today, risking my phone, I decided to unlock my bootloader 11w46! And I have successfully turned out. Apparently, Sony Ericsson is really solved the problem with the hole in the security of chip on some models))) What a joy it was for me! I love Sony!!!!!!! =) Only with you all my life...!!!
If only there was a way to check if you can unlock your bootloader safely. Other than the manufacture date...

Oh ... Well, at least got to unlock the bootloader - I was happy)))
So, I rooted my last N7 to give the "washed out screen after video" fix a try (which worked great for me, btw). I decided that I couldn't live with the yellow tint to the screen, and the screen lift got worse on that unit while I owned it, so I processed it for a return and will wait a little awhile until stock is back in B&M stores (tired of the UPS shuffle).
Unfortunately, this was my first time rooting and I had the mistaken impression that performing a factory reset got rid of root. Oops. I therefore sent it back while still rooted.
What do you think the chances are that the tech who inspects it for the return will check it for root? If he does and they reject the return, so be it. I'm kind of inclined to think it's not really something they regularly check.
Thoughts? Just how much anxiety should I allow myself to feel over this screw up?
All they have to do is turn it on to see that it is rooted, which they will probably do to check out the yellowish tint. As for if they will decline your return or not, I have no idea. If you sent it to Google you should be ok but ASUS has a zero tolerance policy when it comes to rooting and warranty (They have denied legitimat physical issues due to rooting).

Not to highjack, but I think myself and wynand32 might share similar curiosity now that you brought that one point up - What did ASUS do in that scenario? Did they ship the unit back to the customer?

How can they tell it's rooted just by turning it on? I didn't mention that I was smart enough to re-lock the bootloader...
Oh, and yes, this was a return to Google Play. Note that it's the same facility where ASUS takes returns, however.
Well, whatever happens, keep us posted! I would be interested in knowing how this gets resolved.
I'll definitely report back. But if anyone wants to clarify that "they can tell it's rooted by turning it on" part, I'd appreciate it. I know there's an unlock icon when the bootloader's unlocked, but I wasn't aware of anything obvious when it's "just" rooted.
Thanks!

The boot animation, going into "About Device" if you flashed a ROM/kernel, finding the superuser app. Any of the above.
I would think it wouldn't make a difference if you're returning it for hardware issues.

As I stated above, ASUS has denied warranty returns for faulty charging ports because the tablet was rooted.
I'm pretty sure Asus has a problem with unlocked bootloaders, not root access. The OP should be fine.

Well, since I'm new to all this stuff, here's what I think: I did relock the bootloader, so the unlock icon isn't there. I didn't install a different ROM, so it's just rooted stock. I did a factory reset, so there shouldn't be any obvious app loaded (should there?).
I'd hope that the tech would have to open a terminal and do an su command or somesuch, but that's really what I'm wondering now. Will a stock N7 that's been factory reset show anything obvious?

Hee hee... Yeah, I was waiting for someone to say that. That's not precisely correct, though, because even if they refuse the return they'd just have to send it back to me (and charge me shipping) or maybe take it but charge a restock fee (which they're waiving because of the defects).
So, the cost would be at most about $37, or about $15 and I'd be stuck with a yellow tint and screen lift. Which is to put a precise price on the anxiety...

Okay, so, sorry to be obtuse, but: there's a "superuser app" that's installed in the app drawer even on a stock device that's been factory reset? Now I'm just curious how all this stuff works. I had no idea that such an app was installed when I rooted the N7, and that the app would remain when it was reset.
Now I wish I had an N7 to play with to see how it all works.

Okay, thanks. It'll be interesting to see if 1) the tech notices the app/rooting and 2) if they reject the return because of it. Of course, there's also the chance that they'll notice that it's rooted and not reject it, in which case we may never know.
I'll report back...
I can't comment personally but you may find this interesting: http://youtu.be/9YcIHaajda8
Actually, now that I think about it, the last time I RMA'd my Transformer Prime, I just wiped it and did not unroot. Asus didn't have a problem with it.
It seems the Jail Break/Root is coming to Windows Phone 8 soon. It may free more features from wp8. Looking forward to it.

Anyone find any new news on this so called "920 Unlock" that has been claimed it will be released soon ? If this is true, this could open the doors to most WP devices...
The only thing I saw was Ultrashot saying it was a Riffbox "hack" (meaning you'd need to have some special hardware and probably physically open up your phone, to do it).

its also unbelievably dodgy if you don't know what your doing.
You effectively connect directly to the ROM chip, an I mean that in a physical sense and rewrite any data you want, you can "root" anything doing this as you'll bypass any security measures, its just a matter of getting the correct software to flash on to the thing that's tricky, oh and the small matter cracking open your device, locating the chip, working out the necessary configurations to power it up and flash it
I did some research on this for the focus S and yes its possible but its way beyond my abilities

It's dispointing for sure....All I want is 3 rows of tiles and custom colors on my 928.... is this too much to ask ? (Not at Devs at Microsoft)...
Then get the ATIV Odyssey, which I just unlocked InteropUnlocked Sunday, except three tiles might be overkill on a 480x800 screen. O_0
I haven't updated to GDR3 yet because I'm not sure how to avoid Diagnosis' changes once I update.

If you are 8.1 user use custom wpsystem and customPFD
also you can use resource hacker of djamol after that . Using resource hacker is not maybe very safe for this time so wait for it
Note that djamol's hacks don't make a complete root, though they are the closest thing that is public right now for a Lumia like yours. Nobody's going to say anything about a full root until it's ready, and ideally not even then not until after a major update (to give the most possible time before MS <REDACTED>s us over with an update that takes away control of our personal devices again).
Search isn't getting me an answer because all the results are about unlocking the bootloader. I'm likely selling the phone soon so I don't want to unlock, but I'd like to have root for the time being. Is there a path?
There is only temp root. It doesn't stick through reboots and after awhile becomes unstable.
Why would you be selling the phone soon? The turbo is still a very powerful phone and we will have nougat ROMs soon.
I don't plan on abandoning the turbo in the foreseeable future

Ignore Nitefire. Kingroot = bad. Not only does it not work consistently, but when it does, it lasts anywhere between 5 minutes and 1 reset. It has also messed up many phones with locked bootloaders. Whatever you want root for, it's not worth using Kingroot, especially if you plan on selling the phone soon.
If you insist on trying it, make sure you know how to re-flash the system partition. The changes that Kingroot makes cannot be removed with a factory reset.

Because unlocking the bootloader is the only way to REALLY root this phone.

Thanks for the info. I think nitefire qualified the statement enough, it becomes unstable. Not something I'm looking for. Also I'm not sure how useful temp root would be.

Not very. The phone is arguably worth more in a re-sale if bootloader is unlocked. Especially if sold on Swappa, which has a deal with XDA. You will already have done the hard work.

Why don't you want to update to SUTL-49? I think you aren't up to speed on current state of this phone dev-wise. Sunshine works on SUTL-49. There's no reason to stay on SUTL-44, unless you just like old software.
And somewhere we're not communicating. It's worth MORE money unlocked to people who know. And SUTL-49 seems like the last update it will ever receive anyway.

You are correct here (I'm not up to speed). I was on one of compfreek's images via mofo root back when that was the only option. Afterwards I didn't have the time to mess with the phone and keep up with the evolving dev status due to life etc., so I just left my phone in that state because it was working fine and doing everything I needed at the time. I was aware that bootloader unlock was possible, I just didn't dedicate the time to get it done (really backing up and restoring is what I needed the time for, ~40gb over MTP is a nightmare, currently looking for better alternatives).
I decided I want to upgrade my phone so I wanted to go back to a stock state to potentially sell it. The big guide thread in the general forum linked to SUTL-44 so that's what I imaged. I know 49 is unlockable, but if I'm not going to keep the phone I didn't think it was worth my while to make sure this pending OTA was 49, or something else. Basically, not worth the risk of screwing things up taking an OTA without researching first, and not worth the time to research if I didn't plan to keep the phone.
And somewhere we're not communicating. It's worth MORE money unlocked to people who know. And SUTL-49 seems like the last update it will ever receive anyway.

I don't know the law where you live, but even if they do check the Knox bit, I'm quite sure it's their responsibility to prove the hardware fault resulted from modified firmware.
