[Q] Safe to remove Status 7 - Galaxy Ace S5830 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello
So I'm trying to install the last stable release of CyanogenMod (cm-7.2.0-cooper.zip) on my Galaxy Ace (GT-S5830) using ClockworkMod Recovery (which I'm actually stuck in but that's another story). Anyway when I try to install I get a status 7 error. I found a good guide and I'm pretty sure I know how to rectify it (by removing the assert) but my question is: is it safe do so? This is the latest stable release of CyanogenMod so I'm pretty confident but I can't emphasize how much I don't want to brick my phone.
I can't post any links as I'm a noob but I found the stable release straight off the CyanogenMod wiki.
Thanks

you'll only be able to install CM7 with a custom recovery, so first of all root your device and flash CWM 5.0.2.6. FIX

CM 7.2 stable is designed to run on GT-S5830 so if you get any kind of error while installing it is not made by the package you're installing so in order to avoid serious demage like brick to your device find other way to make it work. Maybe if you describe exactly what you did to install the rom we can help you with more accuracy and easly

[Q] What is the latest AND most stable CyanogenMOD ROM version for Galaxy Ace S5830?

I need official CyanogenMOD for my Galaxy Ace S5830. The latest that is the MOST STABLE for Ace, meaning if CyanogenMOD 10 is latest but has bugs, and CyanogenMOD 9 is stable, then I want 9.
And I do mean absolutely no bugs whatsoever. ALL apps must be working, such as fm radio, camera, wifi, bluetooth, etc
If you can, please answer these questions as well:
1. To install a custom ROM like CyanogenMOD, is flashing ClockworkMod Recovery a prerequisite?
2. Can I flash ClockworkMod Recovery by first installing "ROM Manager" from play.google.com ? In other words, does ROM Manager have the ClockworkMod Recovery?
3. Do phones need to be rooted to flash a custom recovery (like ClockworkMod Recovery) ?
4. If phone is running CyanogenMOD, can it still use Samsung Kies to restore contacts?
5. What is a nightly?
Thank you so much!!!

Cyanogenmod 7.2 nightly or rc3 are stable. Also cyanogenmod by frozenaceteam is very stable. Cyanogenmod 9 and 10 still have a lot of bugs.
1. Yes you need clockworkmod recovery to install custom roms.
2. Do not install or touch rom manager as it will hard brick your device. Rom manager does not support ace.
3. Yes rooting is essential.
4. Once cyanogenmod is installed, kies will no longer detect phone. Try googling android contact backup.
Click thanks if i helped!

What is a nightly? Is rc3 another custom ROM?
Also, in the ROM Manager page at play.google.com , it says:
"Samsung users: You must flash a Clockwork compatible kernel first (see XDA forums)"
Should I be concerned with this? Not that I wish to use ROM Manager; I'm just curious....
Thanks a lot!

Actually i wouldnt recommend the nightly version, as it still has some bugs and is for advanced users who uprade this every night. Rc3 stands for Real Canidate 3 and is close to becoming final. It has no bugs so i recommend it. These are all variants of cyanogenmod. I also found another rom called cyanogenmod 7.2 official. This is the final release and has no bugs. You can try rc3 or official and see which one is better in battery and performance.
Do not worry about it. You can root it. Then install clockworkmod recovery and flash the rom. There are many tutorials on xda. I recommend watching video tutorials too
Please hit thanks!

RC3 is release candidate. It IS the official build. These are stable builds.Nightly builds on the other hand are builds that are made by Jenkins(build bot) everyday.
I recommend using vo-1's CM build though..
Oh,and you can't use Kies with CM7,and...
NEVER USE ROM MANAGER,it will hard brick your device.
I am a potato, problem?

No offense...But most of what you said is wrong...
RC stands for release candidate
Cyanogen Mod 7.2 is a rom.
RC and nightlies aren't variants. These are names for the builds, there are nightlies,Release Candidates and stable builds..
RC3 IS the office build.Ace doesn't have the stable version yet.
CM is pre-rooted and comes with CWM recovery.
Root is also not required for flashing from recovery.

macsenjose18 , hello. No bugs whatsoever? Are you sure? Did you try everything? Wifi, messaging, fm radio, call audio, market, etc.?
If so, how is the speed? and battery performance?
Also, are you referring to the cm10 for ace that is NOT an official cyanogenmod? Because I know cyanogenmod team will not develop cm10 for ace because they know ice cream sandwich would degrade functionality of ace.

Hi prawesome. I still don't get the difference between nightlies and Release Candidates. Are they not "stable" versions?
Also, you say root isn't required to flash a custom recovery?
And you also say "CM is pre-rooted and comes with CWM recovery". But I thought you need to get cwm recovery first before you can flash CM? Why does CM come with CWM recovery when CWM recovery is already a prerequisite?
Anyway, can you just recommend the LATEST STABLE version of cyanogenMOD for Galaxy Ace S5830? and if it's not too much trouble, can you post the link?
Thanks a lot!

I know you asked Prawesome, but I can help you with some of your answers:
The following passage is taken from http://www.cyanogenmod.com/about
"Right now, CyanogenMod consists of two parallel and active major versions: CyanogenMod 7 is based on Android 2.3 (Gingerbread), and CyanogenMod 9 is based on Android 4.0 (ICS); CM9-capable devices are being phased out of CM7, but since there’s a large amount of devices still on the market that aren’t capable of fully running Android 4.0, CyanogenMod 7 exists to support them. The variants of the firmware are split into 3 categories, Stable, Release Candidate and Nightlies. The Stable version, as suggested by the title, is the tried and tested variant of the firmware proven to be mostly bug free and suitable for daily use. The latest stable version is available for an assortment of the officially supported devices. A Release Candidate (RC) build may not be the final version, but a variant that has no fatal flaws or bugs, on the stabilization stages to become the final product that is the Stable variant. Lastly we have the Nightlies, which are as volatile as a firmware can get. These releases keep coming at an interval of a day or two and if you do end up trying one of these, do not be alarmed if the your device goes cuckoo on you. These ROMs are largely untested, and as advised by CyanogenMod, not meant for use for an average user. These releases, are meant to test untested waters that may or may not break your phone."
As for the latest official CyanogenMod Rom for our device, go to get.cm (by typing "get.cm" without quotation marks into your browser and look for cooper (not ace))
Cheers
Rich

Official stable download link: http://get.cm/get/2K8
I would say though, that a lot of people find that roms based on Vo-1's version much better, like Droidace, Apocalypse (second last release), and the work Cryss is doing to keep Vo-1's CM7 going for example. I do urge you to give these a try too.
At the end of the day there is no best rom and you must try quite a few to find the one that suits you best.
Happy flashing!

If you take the time to read this thread you will see that
1) nightly versions are unstable by nature and are not recommended for regular users
2) unofficial versions based on vo-1's cm7 are recommended
Try another ROM
@venkatcse539 Try Aplocalypse (its a barebone rom) or cyanmobile (it awesome) or democracy (its latest updated and stable)

[Q] [ Need HELP ] .. Not Kernel Panic .. Upload Mode

Dear all XDA Developers
i have samsung galaxy note n7000, after we got the official JB update the device went to be so slow, so i choosed to downgrade it to ICS and i download the sogtware image from (www.samsung-updates.com) as i told it should be official software images.
and i downloaded the ODIN v3.09 for pc, connect the phone and install, it fiinished successfully, AFTER that i start to got the error, the phone shutdown suddenley and got the screen said "RST_STAT 0x2000000 User Fault, not kernel panic, upload mode"
i tried to install again and still have the same error the it is random no specific time, then i download and install the Philz and wipe the phone as for install a new ROM and install the same image then got the same error after two days.
my request is how to solve this problem and where to download an official ICS for my GT-N7000
i hope to find the solution here in XDA developers
best regards
No one can help??!!!!
Is this issue so difficult and there is no solution or any idea about solving it??
It depends on how you choose. Going your path back to official ics could be problematic. So i would just go forward install a custom jb rom such as Aryamod then the problem is solved and u will have a beautiful and fast rom. Done.

Also, stock ics is known to brick phones.
as i got the official JB via update the device is too slow, so would that problem solved when installing a custom rom? and which rom should i choose? and the problem now is with the device hardware? or just the ics??
as i searched before it on the internet i found that this is a GPS problem!! how can i check that please??

1stly, After getting JB update from OTA, it's recommended to do a factory wipe in stock recovery (This is what Samsung CS told me). I tried and it works (at the expense of having all my data n apps gone).
2nd, Like @forest1971 says, there's many good custom Roms And you can choose per your liking. I strongly oppose going back to ICS as of the brick bug threat. If you really want to downgrade, might as well go for GB.
3rd, WHAT is the point of our good Dev's spending their precious time and cracking their heads to come up with a custom rom IF they are not BETTER than Stock roms?

Installing through odin is the best method for flashing stock rom. You have done it right. Just remember NEVER to do a factory reset anywhere with ICS. Not even in recovery

Can you not install it from Google Play? If you can't, then it most probably will not work on your device.
Yes I cannot install it because the current version available in google store isn't supported by my phone, because of the rom I guess.so I was looking for an older version apk compatible with my current rom.

If you are interested in installing the latest version of Instagram, I suggest you upgrade to CM 9 or above. Are you using Ace S5830 or S5830i? Anyway I tried searching for Gingerbread compatible version and found this (haven't personally tried it),
Instagram 1.1.0 apk for Android
Do post the result. Hope I Helped
i tried it and as for other older versions i have tested,it gives me the following message
''error your version of instagram is out of date.please upgrade your app to log in to instagram''
So i guess i have to try a more recently released custom rom.
do you have any suggestions?i have tried a lot of them and the one i have now is the most reliable with no problems, that's why i keep searching for an instagram apk compatible.
My device is Samsung Galaxy Ace GT-S5830 or just Cooper
anyway,thanks.

Thankfully I also use Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830. I was a bit confused when you posted this question in the S5830i Q/A section. Personally, I suggest you use the CM9 by Rhievaldo. CWM 5 is more than enough with CM 7, CM 9 and CM 10 roms. CWM 6 should only be used if you want to go for CM 11 (KitKat) roms. But even in CM 11 roms, there is one rom (KitKat for All) that works quite well with CWM 5. So you are good to go with the recovery you have know. Make sure to follow the installation instructions specified in the thread. Good Luck
i've just installed it.everything looks to work fine.
i've tested instagram,it won't leave me to upload a picture but at least i can browse through the app.
have you tested instagram on your device?

No, I don't use Instagram on Ace. It could be a RAM problem though
so what do you suggest to do?i pressed the home button in order to close any other running programs but the problem insists:silly:

You can use Greenify to hibernate other unnecessary apps that runs in the background. You can save some RAM that way.

That's kind of expected on beta ROMs and development has stopped so there isn't much to do, maybe a clean install with another Gapps or look for another ROM there are some quite stable just look for the one you like
