[Q] Xperia Z with 64 Gb - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello ! i'm going to buy the Xperia Z and i have a question ...
i know that xperia z doesn't support 64 gb because it's formatted in exFAT . But once you format it to FAT32 it'll work .. so my question is
Does the xperia z fully support the 64 gb in FAT32 or will I face problem with some apps or anything like this ?
Thanks,

Every Android phone is 99.9% is limited by the Android OS and not by the hardware. Most phones support I don't know how much it was, but at least some Terra bytes I guess it's even more. But because it's not supported by default (most of the times you need to do some do some modifications) so companies tend to say that 32gb is the max supported.

To be perfectly honest, once my XZ said there was no SD card in it when I was started up the camera app. But after restarting the phone it was all good again. Not sure why it did it but it hasn't don't again though.

hmm ... ok thx i'll see if other members got problems

OP another way to see if Members have issues, is to do a search....of this topic. I just found several threads on this topic, so please search before creating a new thread.
Thank You.

The Xperia Z supports SDXC micro SD cards, meaning it will support 64gb ones.
I'm using a Sandisk 64gb SDXC without any issues what so ever

I have the same microSD in my XZ. And I had that hiccup as I mentioned in my other post.

haven't had that issue yet, maybe the card needs to be re-seated in the microSD slot? I've been using my 64gb for 4 weeks and in 2 Xperia Z's (1 z was faulty and replaced) and all good

I have issues with my 64gb card. Whenever something tries writing to the card there's a chance it will unmount. It's not completely random, it happens far more often with Titanium Backup than it does with a normal file manager, but other than that I have no idea why.

I'm using Sandisk 64GB in my XZ for about 2 weeks, there's no problem at all! But the writing speed just about Class 10 (around 11-13MB). This doesn't make me happy,

formatting 64 GB SD card
Can I format the SD card to FAT32 from Windows 7 by connecting the XZ to my PC?

Crazy_Oni,
Let me ask a question or 3.
Can you see the SDcard mount folders on your device ?
What paths are they showing up under ?
Can you create files within these folders from Android ?
I personally have not found it necessary to create 2 folders on my 64GB MicroSD.
I am using 1 64GB NTFS partition and I am successfully relocating (moving and accessing) folders to the MicroSD from both Windows and Android, without using any apps to do it.
It looks like this.
I remounted it with link2sd a few times but it didn't work. Viebahn can't link apps to it.

Something doesn't sound right about what you just said... If you're in the UK and your Carrier is EE, would you mind explaining to me how you got TWRP to work on your 64 bit variant of the HTC Desire 510?!?! Because I know there's no 64 bit twrp and I'm thinking you tried to flash twrp on your 64 bit phone and now you're stuck and can't figure out how to fix it....

[PATCH]**Adoptable storage enabler** MARSHMALLOW

As you may all know Samsung disabled the Adoptable storage function in the Tab S. Even the well known S7 hack doesn't work. Well now it's back...
Thanks to some legwork (no pun intended) by @longshanks197 we now have a workable solution.
As previously thought, Samsung disabled adoptable storage in the framework.
I have created this patch to fix the issue by patching the boot image and replacing sm.jar in system.
This will enable the adoptable storage feature in Settings>Storage
NOTE: I advise making a backup with TWRP before proceeding.
INSTALL:
Copy the zip below to your device then install with TWRP.
adoptable_storage_enabler_ashyx
For information how to enable adoptable storage see the guide below:

But does this zip enable the possibility to set adoptable storage or directly enable it on the sd?

I mean, does the zip directly set the sd as adoptable, or does it just enable the option leaving to the user the possibility to choose?

i think this statement from the 1st post should answer your question.
I'm not interested into apply the feature from settings because I prefer to have half of sd as portable using adb command (mixed 50 variable), that's why I'm asking.
Thanks ashyx
Has anybody had an low speed warning for their micro sd card, I have an Samsung 128GB Evo+ that has an 20Write 80Read speed.

You can still do that but you'll have to use adb or android terminal.
Since adoptable storage option is due to a patch, what happens to internal sd partition (and related data) when we update the firmware?

Most likely nothing as the partitions are handled by vold so it should still work regardless
However you may lose the settings in storage.
You can always reapply the patch.

Looks like how much combined storage is messed up, I have 20gb of video`s and a few ebook, but the storage manager says i have used 96%
Just noticed maximum storage is showing as 256GB, I have an 16gb tablet with an 128gb microsd that`s an maximum of 144GB so it`s wrong by 112GB
Is there anyway to correct this?

I would take the combined storage info with a pinch of salt and just pay attention to the individual storage info which seems to be correct.
It's the same issue for the S7 and other Samsung devices.
Looks like Samsung cobbed something else or maybe this is one of the reasons they disabled it?
I am just going to disable AS, I was just giving it a try, I prefer to be able to remove my microsd when i need, but this bug should be listed.
Thanks

Great job, thank you
Thank you so much, this is the patch I've been waiting for since I upgraded to MM and had to realize that adoptable storage didn't work with my SM-T805.
I split my SD-Card via adb and one of those tutorials existing for S7/S7 Edge, I used this one: http://www.modaco.com/news/android/heres-how-to-configure-adoptable-storage-on-your-s7-s7-edge-r1632/
Everything went fine and I had 16 GB more free space. The bug that the amount of total space is not shown correctly doesn't bother me, what counts is the new free space that is displayed correct.
16 GB is a joke for the Tab S.
Before I used Link2SD pro, which was ok, but the app didn't work anymore in the correct way in MM.
Here's the result:
Edit: I can't see the picure in the post, so here's a link to the picture: forum.xda-developers.com/picture.php?albumid=13609&pictureid=54177

It might be phone needs update. Cause I never had problems until using this phone with this sd card
Same problem with just bought 256GB card. Photos and videos getting randomly corrupted. I really hope it's a software issue and will be solved with upcoming OTA. What a pity!

Seems like problem solved in 140/153 update for me.
How were you able to solve the problem? Was it a faulty nano memory card?

Genuine or counterfeit ? You should check it with a SD adapter pluged in a PC.

1 Yes
2 inserted in the pc it works well
3 p.s connected with "OTG" adapter works.
4 inserted in the smartphone is not detected
5 rom [ROM] [OFFICIAL] [10.0] [pyxis] CrDroid 6.5 [APR SECURITY PATCH]
In your case i would try another sd card just to see if the issue still exists.
If so then the sd flaw should be forgotten. Then, it may be a problem with your rom.
Finally, i would try another rom.
try to format from your computer , even you buy a fake ( you buy 128 Go and it's 5120 Mo ) it should be detected
I had similar problem in Mi 9 Lite but with SIM card. I had to pull it out and insert again a few times until it started working.
I'm on crDroid 5.4 and my 128gb micro sd card is working absolutely fine.

I only add info, the better is to buy samsung evo plus card because of the best speed of write in unsequential access and fact of keeping only 2 bites in one memory cell in compare to store 3 bites in one cell in sandisk ultra.
do you use the sd card as storage or does the rom also use it to store app data?

I used Link2SD many years ago, and Apps2SD some years ago. I created second partition and stored all data on second partition in devices with 8GB flash.
Today I do not use devices with small flash. (I am not sure if Apps2SD correct works in android 10).

that's why i ask as i have not really seen link2sd or apps2sd in a while. because the sd card is shared with the sim slot, and i will be using 2 sims; i want to try and understand if it is just extra storage i am giving up? or also a place to move app data to.
I used second partition for everything; aplications, libraries obb, data, dex/odex... IF APP has predelined library link you can relink directory to card too.
