I have the same issues can someone tell us more information about it?
...Ok, I've got no clue what ya'll are talking about. Are you talking about the ability to plug a Captivate into a car stereo via USB, and have the stereo play the music files off the phone? Because otherwise I have no clue what "CD player" you're talking about. Sorry, any chance you could clarify?

Are you on a stock rom? My understanding is the newer kernels can do this. I believe there its a thread in dev about usb out.
I may be way off base though. Only one cup of coffee.

Do you need to arrange the files on your phone in a specific folder? Maybe your radio has some documentation about that. Once you set your phone to USB storage, it should look no different to your radio than a flash thumb drive.
Then again it could be a driver issue, on a computer you need drivers to make the USB storage work, at least I did.

But plugging a cappy into a linux machine, it will read the SD card all day long if it's mounted. Give this a shot and post results!

it may depend on the car stereo. do you want the phone to control playback or the stereo? you may be able to mount storage and browse with the stereo but may need to find out if there is something special you need to do with the folders. also there is a way to output audi over usb, if the stero supports it you may be able to make a usb cable with a resistor to put it in dock mode. also some kernel such as xcaliburhands 2.3.3 kernel can force dockmode if paired with an app. look in his kernel thread.
I have the same issue. Its not related to mounting the drive. To me, its either a driver issue, or a problem with where the car deck looks for music first. With my previous nokia, I had no problems getting the deck to recognize the phone as a storage device. still trying to figure it out
Has anyone gotten this to work? Really sucks not having access to my phone's music library while driving.
I do this every day with my cheap jvc CD player. I actually can connect two seperate way. The car CD player has a USB Jack and a input headphone style Jack on it. When I plug in the USB from phone to CD player USB I just pull down the notification bar and mount the SD card, the stereo then will upload/view any of my files and music and show it on the screen and start to play the music. I can even control skipping/next song wwith the remote.
Secondly I plug in a headphone Jack from the phone to the input headphone type Jack and can then also use voodoo sound app to control the amplification (which makes it sound so much better). This way I have to hit the buttons on the CD player to skip to next song or use my Bluetooth headphones to skip the songs. To do this I start the music with it plugged in via the male/male headphone cable, then turn on my Bluetooth headphones, then when music starts playing in the Bluetooth headphones I open the music app and switch it to the headphone output. So I can listen via the stereo speakers and control it via the Bluetooth headphones. Hope this helps or gives some thoughts for you to get it working.

[Q] Duplicate Ipod Functionality

I just got a new car and it has a spiffy usb hook up where you can plug in an ipod/flash drive/phone and it will play music off of it. The ipod works amazingly with the stereo system, displaying titles and artist as well as making navigation really easy. The display/navigation is **** when hooking up a flash drive/phone.
It would be amazing for my phone to work the same way as the ipod.
Right now there doesn't seem to be anything like that out. I know that I probably can't change anything with the way the car's stereo system recognizes and plays devices, so that means the hack would have to be on the phone. The only way I can think it would work is the make the phone spoof as an ipod when connected to the car's usb hook up.
I'd like to know if anyone has tried doing this before, maybe on a different phone or device? Is this possible at all, and if so, where would I start?
The phone I have now is a Captivate running Serendipity rom and the car is a 2010 Honda Civic.
This would be an excellent idea for an app. I hope this can be made possible
Have you tried putting the phone in USB storage mode? Either through the standard menu items, or enable USB debugging, and enable it after you plug it in.

The mass storage thing works for just playing music but it displays songs terribly, usually just by track number and the number (not the name) of the folder, sorted by creation date. It's basically impossible to use if you have more than a small amount of songs.
I just connect the phone to my car stereo via BT, plug the phone into a car charger, set the display to always on, place it in my dash mount to the right of my steering wheel and use the phone to see the Now Playing info. My steering wheel controls work the phone just fine so I can skip foward/back and raise/lower volume. When I shut the car off the music automatically pauses until I come back and it automatically reconnects to the radio and I just hit Play again.

My car doesn't have blue tooth so this isn't really an option right now.
I'm actually willing to write an app for this, but I'm not sure entirely where to start. The biggest unknown is how the stereo system recognizes ithe ipod and what it sends/receives to/from the ipod.
If I had some starter code where someone did something similar or documentation on how the ipod works of usb I should be able to at least start writing an app for this.

Probably not going to find that in here.
I would look up what kind of stereo the car has and the technology it uses. I can bet there is a forum out there on that type of stereo. Your probably not the only one with this question.... If you can list the specs i will look into it myself.

The car is a 2010 Honda Civic Ex. I don't know what the stereo system is, it's what ever comes stock.
Welcome to proprietary apple exclusive deals. Do you think the ipod integration and lack of android integration is accidental?
By all means if you can write an app that will make android phones work with iphone docks and compatible stereos more power to you.
It would definitely involve reverse engineering closed source apple code.

[Q] Audio disabled when docked after Honey update

Purchased DS7 from Staples and performed Honeycomb update from Dell. Also purchased the Dell dock at the same time. Whenever I played music, Pandora, Slacker, etc the audio would stop when placed in the dock. I called tech support and we went through all the troubleshooting steps and they determined that it was either a defective dock or DS7. I was able to further troubleshoot by taking my dock to a local staples and connect their display model to my dock while it was running slacker radio. The audio did not cut out, but continued to play without interruption. I called Dell back and they agreed to replace my unit.
I received my replacement unit today and proceeded to test the dock audio and it worked perfectly. I then was prompted to accomplish the honeycomb update (they shipped me a froyo 2.2 unit) which I accomplished. After setting up the unit, I started slacker radio and inserted the unit in the dock. And guess what....it killed the audio from the internal speakers. No matter what setting I selected, it killed the audio from the speakers when it was playing any type of audio. So after much testing, I have determined that their Honeycomb update is to blame for the docking issues.
I have also found something interesting as well. If you dock the unit, power it off, then power it on (while leaving it docked), you can start any audio program and it will play from the internal speakers without issues. The problem arises when you remove it and reinsert it into the dock.
I don't expect Dell to fix or answer this problem, but everyone should be advised that honeycomb breaks the audio dock. Only work around is to power off your unit and restart it while it is connected to the dock....someone maybe wondering why I am evening concerned, but one of the things that I was hoping would work is to have the DS7 sitting on the counter and playing holiday music while I'm working in the house. Simple enough.
Nick
I think that is built into the dock program, I have the same issue so I just plug in some computer speakers. I am going to try and edit the dock.apk

[Q] Car Dock Audio and Hashcodes CM7

I apologize deeply in advance if this has already been brought up but I just can't seem to find it.
The issue I'm having while running the latest build of Hascode's CM7 Rom on the Droid 3 (XT862) is audio through the special Motorola Car Dock cable. When I insert the phone into the car dock, my speakers put off the little bit of white noise that I have found to be normal with this, but when I attempt to play music, it simply plays through the Phone's speakers instead of the car speakers. I have attempted to access the Dock audio settings built into CM7 but can't seem to be able to get at them, whether I am in the dock or not it is grayed out. Just simply curious if anyone has a fix for this, or if this is a known issue and can't be worked with right now? Any answers would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

Weird crackling sound on USB Audio [SOLVED]

I've been trying to get a ASUS Xonar U3 to work with the HTC One. There *is* sound output, but there is a weird crackling sound, and overall sounds even worse than the default audio out. I can confirm the same otg cable and xonar works with a S3. Does anyone know of any possible solution, or even why this is happening?
Help is much appreciated. Thanks
Just to elaborate I'm using stock, 1.29.707.16
There's also an error in the notification "Unable to charge device - please use the supported charger" which does not appear with the S3. But with the same cable USB mass storage works fine, even while the error message is displayed.
Solved! It seems that the U3 draws too much current due to the extremely low impedance of my iems. If I use a Y-cable, or use more efficient earphones, it's not a problem. Now, to burn more money find a DAC with built in battery
