[Q] sync manager wake lock ? - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Getting some heavy wake locks on the one all of a sudden.
My phone also oddly enough seems to be draining battery faster with the screen off than on.
Question I have for you is anyone familiar with this wake lock / alarm.
android.content.syncmanager.sync_alarm
Showing as 1300 wakeups. Does this have to do with HTC sync manager? Heck I don't even use it.

May have just figured it out
Looks to be stupid Google plus.
I set a custom reference and right away it had the sync alarm wakeup.
Process showed 99% usage with Google plus. Even though I'm not using it.

With which apps and method did you figured this out?
Here also a lot of wake locks.... 24 %in 9 hours

Google voice power hog???

Just looking at my battery status my highest used item is Google voice at 32% where it was used to hear a voicemail. It also said the keep awake hit 2 1/2 hours. Any suggestions? I did a force stop on it via battery status but I don't want that much juice being used for nothing.

Uninstall and reinstall. It shouldn't use that much. Mine doesn't even register.
Yea I will try that. It was one of the apps that auto installed from previous my froyo running phone.

nexus 7 not killing wifi during sleep after updating to 4.2.1

I have selected to never keep WiFi on during sleep yet now the tablet continues to run the WiFi as you can see in the pictures. This has forced me to use airplane mode when I am on the go because otherwise the tablet just keeps WiFi on and burns the battery extremely quick. This has been a problem since I updated to 4.2.1. I am not rooted completely stock. A solution would be great because this sucks right now. I have tried clearing the cache in recovery but that didn't solve the problem.
I'm running the latest Paranoidandroid ROM and thought that was the problem. I can't yet post to that developer forum so I was just waiting for the next beta.
I guess it's a problem with 4.2.1 then.

If you don't find a solution you may want to try DataEasyPro from the market. It kills both 3g and wifi as soon as the screen is off and then runs a user defined schedule to turn on 3g or wifi every now and the for a few seconds to keep you upto date with your social world. Works great. There is even a widget so you can turn off the schedule when you are downloading or updating from the play store.

I think it is a 4.2.1 problem. Its hard to say how wide spread it is though because I have only seen a handful of posts about this issue though. To me, this issue is unacceptable. I should not have to enable/disable airplane mode to conserve battery. Especially when the previous version of android prior to the 4.2.1 update handled WiFi sleep settings without a problem. Hopefully a fix will be here soon. My tablet used to have superb battery life without me constantly monitoring it. Now I feel like I have to keep double checking that I remember to use airplane mode so that I don't go to use the tablet and find a nearly depleted battery.

I recommend automate it, I have a couple of rules set to turn WiFi of with the screen (with a 5min delay), then turn Wi-Fi back on when the screen turns on. There's plenty of other settings and rules to play with as well.

In had the same issue. I found Google maps to be the culprit.
It defaulted back to location reporting.
Check Google now sync, maps and currents.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
It's not google maps itself, it's the android location service. It's always collecting data even if your phone or tabscreen isn't on. This is pretty anoying since google only let you choose between agreeing to run the service in the background or not using it at all. Stupid! How about collecting data only when the device is in use?
Same here. There is a bug report on Google about it.

Ah this is interesting; as last night my battery was on 53% and I am sure I charged it fully previously...... Am on stock too but have rooted.
Might just switch the tablet off all the time for the time being.
I'm on stock rooted 4.2.1 and mine is fine. Strange.

what is the OP using? Are there any apps installed/running on the OPs device that can keep the WiFi alive?

I highly recommend using an app called Better Battery Stats. You can find the free version here on XDA. It'll tell you if there is an app causing a wakelock. I used it to troubleshoot my Rezound and I'm getting a solid 4-5 hours of screen on time with the extended battery on that because it helped me lock down the apps that were killing my battery.

Hmmm. Just checked PA beta 7 and it's doing it too. Wifi on always.
A custom kernel would probably fix that.

I was having the wifi on issue as well. Just bought my N7, stock 4.2.1 and not rooted. I followed the tip in point four of this post, which details a simple set up using Tasker, where the unit turns the wifi on and off after the screen turns on or off respectively. The reason for the 10 second delay as is detailed in the link, is to allow for the turning on of your N7 to check the time or other reasons, and then quickly turn it off without the wifi on task being activated.
the screenshot below shows my wifi being stuck on while in sleep mode, even with it set to be never on during sleep in the settings, and the change in behavior once the 2 Tasker profiles we set up.
Cheers
Those of you having issues, have you tried the "only when plugged in" setting? Not sure if it would really matter but that's what I use and mine turns on and off just fine.

Testing that now. Turned off Tasker, and set wifi to the "only when plugged in" setting. It's only been about 30 minutes, but so far it looks like it's behaving the same as before, as in keeping wifi on while in sleep. I'll Let it sleep for a few hours and see what the chart shows.
Cheers
EDIT: So I let my N7 sit for about an hour after switching the above mentioned settings, and you can see in the screenshot below that the wifi is staying on while the unit is not awake. I've set my Tasker profiles to control the wifi once again.
I know it may be fixed by a factory reset, but frankly I'm more than happy with the way Tasker handles the issue.
Cheers
so 6 months later, I am still getting this problem. However it seems only to be with the last update. The tasker method seems to be working well though.

Why is Voicemail keeping my phone awake so much?

I'm a bit confused here...I use GSam Battery Monitor to keep track of everything b/c I'm anal about whats running on my phone and lately, if i check "Time held awake", voicemail is number one...like today...2h 59m and the phone has only been off the charger for about 7 hours....does that make any sense??
Voicemail is in the top 3 of power used at 12.9%...If i check "number of times waking device", voicemail is nowhere to be found in that list...
So is this normal or is something crazy going on?
Wakelock Detail:
starting cm_vnote service 1h 31m
cm message wakeup 1h 29m
18 wakelocks.
Is this a visual voicemail app that came preinstalled? If so, disable it assuming you're on Android 4.0 or above).

Mine has been awake since I unplugged. I would guess the reason were not seeing the times waking the device is because it's not waking it, it is holding it awake.
I'm on vipers newest, and this did not start until I switched to his newest. But I am always deleting useless apps, I wondervif your are doing the same?

Why not just use Google voice? When you set it up it will disable the Visual voicemail app.
Or you can just freeze it and I'm wondering if you can use the pm disable command to disable it

4.4.3 zombie apps draining battery

Just got my Dev edition. Upgraded to 4.4.2 and after a while to 4.4.3
All seemed fine until i noticed that Google play books used 40% of the battery... Weird since i opened it, scrolled the list and closed... It wasn't even in the recent app list...
I killed it and added to the disable list (i use fbreader anyway)... Now today (second day with phone) the same happened with YouTube...
It used 30% of the battery. I watched a10s clip... App info said 10s foreground... 30 min background... And again, it wasn't even on the recent app list to be closed. Just went to apps and force closed.
Now I'm worried that this is a thing with everything Google (which honestly i can disable all but gmail and maps) or the OS...
Anyone getting the same? I'm not sure what to search for to find similar threads...
I'm guessing this is either common or i have a ducked device since i got it twice for the 2 days i have it...

Ugh that's really weird. If you're rooted it will be a lot easier to fix but for now reboot the phone and use it like that for another day. Sometimes the OS and apps need time to settle. For example I did a fresh flash two days ago and my Google services had a 1 hour and 13 minute wakelock yesterday where as today it's behaving very well. But YouTube doing that is weird. Never auto update your apps as 85% of updates are crap across the board. Try going to apps under settings and click uninstall updates for YouTube. This should revert YouTube to the version that came with 4.4.3, unless that's already the latest. But yeah for now try and "tickle" YouTube by logging out, wiping cache and data for it under settings/apps and log back in, see if it starts behaving. I'll monitor this thread to try and help.

Thanks. I did all that yesterday and rebooted. So far everything seems fine. So i think you're spot on. Tho it is a bad sign to have those bugs
The phone did lock up twice on me after that.
Once playing webm on chrome. But i just disabled it a while later. Firefox beta ftw! ( ff is the Only reason i have up my nexus one)
Another time when i inserted the Sim with the phone on and right away unlocked the slider... It froze mid slider animation. Think i hit some race condition there. Hopefully i won't be inserting sim cards all the time...
Overall i think i will be able to live with that phone. Now only if i could use nfc unlock with my assine employer email policy...

It may have happened again. It's reporting a widget (simple calendar) as using 15min of cpu with 4min of foreground time. I had opened its setting screen 15 min ago. After i liked it from the recent task list it stopped counting new cpu time. But it's still showing as the top battery user for now.
Since that setting screen has ads, i will just write this off as a sleazy ad library for now.

Battery Saving with Deep Sleep Battery Saver

So, I know the whole discussion around task-killers and Android - let's try and avoid that here.
I rediscovered this app last week, I had an old version but it updated from Playstore. I stopped using task killers a long time ago, but I'd forgotten that the approach Deep Sleep Battery Saver takes is slightly different: it makes sure that the phone is REALLY asleep when the screen is off.
Now people have said that it's wake locks clash with Android own.
I went ahead and tried it on the highest setting - slumber - and it's fantastic in both my P7 & P6, and also on my Lg2.
The only thing I have to remember is that when I'm downloading files that take longer than say, 2mins, I have to change my screen-on time to accommodate, otherwise it will stop the download as soon the screen goes off.
I found this is a small thing to remember given the battery savings.
I mean the difference is sooo large I can't tell you.
I put it down to this - we all have a variety of apps on our phones and we really don't know what keeps running in the background.
The Huawei Music app for example, is notorious, as is the Camera ago on the Lg2.
Deep Sleep Battery Saver shuts everything down, period. And it works. I'm absolutely stunned by how much later into the night I can use my phones with a single charge in the morning.
It's a little like GREENIFY but as I don't root my phones anymore, this was a great alternative.
Actually even better is that I don't have to go through my entire list of apps picking and choosing.
I just select SLUMBERER.
The results have been so fantastic on my P6 & P7, that I had to share.
The Lg2 is great with battery WHATEVER you through at it.
The P6 & P7 are gorgeous phones - with anemic batteries...it's always been the case.
With this app, I have discovered a while new sense of respect and use for my P6&P7.
Of course, once your actually using the phone, the drain is as fast as always, it's just that the savings you make in between are phenomenal.
Just saying.
DS Battery Saver can be found FREE on playstore.

P.S. Oh! Just remember to turn off 'enable logging' in settings-general, leave the 'show persistent notifications' ticked in notifications& language, and turn off ALL the 'battery notifications' in notification& language.
Those are the things responsible for wake-locks.
To save battery it works quite well indeed and I thank you for that. The only tiny issue is that I don't receive the calls anymore, only a text that says that somebody tried to reach me. No ring, no move, just missing calls. I could also turn off my phone to save battery...

I receive ALL my phone calls, ALL my texts, as they are, when they come in, as usual, asap, otherwise what's the point.
My email, Facebook, whatsapp etc comes in soon as I turn on my screen.
The App doesn't touch your ability to make OR receive calls EVER. Something else is going on with you.

This app is extremely useless once you install an anti-theft program.
When you install this program, programs like Cerberus, Kaspersky Internet Security anti-theft function or Lookout won't work as they should when you lose your phone (and the screen is off).

Yes.
If you're using an always on, anti-theft application, you're not really worried about conserving battery.
This app works if you need to get more life out of your charge.
Alot more.
That's how it works.

No it doesn't actually! The alarm clock over rides everything short of actually switching your phone off... And in some ANDROIDS even this isn't enough.
You'll be awoken, don't worry.
You'll also be amazed at the amount of battery life you suddenly have... I'm loving it! Just don't forget the p.s. end of post #1
