Rattle - Sprint HTC One (M7)

My new One has an odd rattle which I assume is the camera/autofocus or the vibration device. It's easy to reproduce, just rap on it lightly with a knuckle on the back near the lens. I don't think my first One--which I swapped out due to non-functioning home/back buttons (only to get another One with the same problem)-- had this problem.
I wouldn't care except when I'm on a call, with the phone to my ear, the speaker seems to rattle this component and it creates a high pitch vibration/buzzing directly in my ear.

Mine actually rattles when I knock on the back as well, but I don't seem to have any problems hearing it during calls.

[Q] Rattling/buzzing noise, something loose inside.

Upon receiving my second HTC one today (I RMA'ed the first one due to quality control issues discussed here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NwOu5oXpjVQ ) I find that this one have something loose inside of it, somewhere around the area of the upper speaker or the camera (camera works I've checked it). And it makes this Rattling/buzzing noise every single time a put the phone in my left palm (or by lightly tapping the upper part of the phone), quite annoying after awhile... It's not from a loose power button nor the volume keys. I also tried pulling out the simcard tray as well, and the noise persists.
I never noticed this on the first phone. Are you experiencing any of this? This can't be normal, right?
Hey, a simple no answer would be good if you're not.
Thanks.

No not for me. If anything, its probably the camera for you thats "loose". It happens with a lot of phones
I'm having a buzzing vibration from the top speaker when playing sound through the speakers (music, video, etc. but not during call). Definitely something vibrating under the speaker grill with the sound waves of the speaker, particularly at the frequency of a male voice talking. I'm about to contact HTC for a return. Very frustrating because the rest of my phone works great. Now I'm worried about getting a refurbished unit with other problems...

Got mine RMA'ed, second time now. I haven't received a refurbished unit as of yet.. But I'm not in the US and rma's are handled a little different (we do it through the retailer as long as there is any warranty left). Got a new device last time, and I'm expecting that is what I will be getting this time also.

Ring tones and notifications so quiet!

When you select the ring tones and notifications they are so much louder in settings than when actually recieving a call or notification. What's with that? We have these great front facing speakers but sometimes I miss calls and notifications because it's just not loud enough.
Can this be fixed? Sony will have to provide a firmware update or something.
I have noticed this also. I have all the volume settings at max. When compared to my old Nexus 5, the Z3C is a fair bit lower. I really noticed it using Google Navigation in the car. With the N5, I could here the voice prompts loud and clear. With the Z3C, my friend kept saying, I can't hear her, turn it up. It was up all the way.
Maybe compact phone means compact sound as well. :silly:
I find that the "Xperia" ones are much louder than any notifications you might load yourself
yes i can confirm that, when you listening those ringtones are louder than during incoming call or notifications
My phone was in my shorts pocket, I was walking around the lake in my local park. Son got some pebbles stuck in his shoes, I bent over, took his shoes off, put his shoes back on. Kept walking.. Took phone out later to take a picture and the rear panel has a diagonal crack from the lens to half way up the right hand side.
I think it is reasonable to assume you can carry your phone in your shorts pocket whilst walking, bend over and not expect the phone to break. I have contacted Sony Mobile and will return, as soon as possible. I do love the phone, so hope it is replaced under warranty. I will have to be even more conscious of being precious with it when I get it back..

Earpiece volume is too low

earpiece volume is very low during calls. maximum doesn’t make it loud enough.
anyone else with the same issue ?
Not to give you an "Apple" response but check the way you are holding it to your ear. There is a dramatic difference in volume if you hold it a little lower so that the top of your phone is in the middle of your ear. My initial tendency was to hold it higher so that the bottom of my phone was where I was used to having it on my face from my N4. Now I consciously hold it lower and its quickly becoming habit.
Also..... Did you wash your ears this morning?
Just kidding lol
If the earpiece volume is too low, either you're not holding it correctly against your ear (I hate giving that response, as the poster earlier said) or you've got a bad speaker. Mine is insanely loud.
I'd play around with how you're holding it against your ear and if that doesn't seem to fix the issue, then I'd look at a possible RMA and get a replacement.

[Q] How to fix microphone static/white noise?

My M7 records only white noise from the microphone. This happens during calls and also using any app which records using the microphone. I've tried cleaning it and also block one, or the other, or both, but white noise is still recorded. I've tried a couple of roms, including the stock RUU and am now using the most recent insertcoin, but the problem remains.
I received the phone recently and didn't check the microphone before flashing/rooting using HTC dev, but have no reason to beleive that this issue was present then (the seller did not mention it)
Does anyone have any ideas how to fix this?
The HTC M7 design makes your finger block the microphone
I have had this microphone problem intermittently too. When it failed for 2 or 3 calls in a row I experimented with voice recordings and noticed that while my voice was absent, there was some scratching sound and I clearly heard my breathing for just a moment in the last second of one recording.
That was when I noticed I had been holding the phone in my left hand and resting my pinky right on the microphone hole. Because of the edge to edge touchscreen it has to be held with fingertips, can't wrap your fingers around it. It's a slippery phone, so you can't easily hold it with fingertips just from the sides. The main mic is on the bottom on this phone near the right corner, exactly where my left pinky holds it up.
So I made a bunch of recordings paying attention to my fingers and it has worked fine every time. I'll bet few people who hold the phone with their right hand have any trouble.

On a side note, what do you think of beats audio? I feel it terribly sucks.

I personally don't have any beats devices, so beats audio has to stay off. It intentionally distorts the sound to complement the response characteristics of beats headphones, similar to Dolby and dbx. But beatsaudio labeling is so prominent on the HTC One, I wonder who paid whom?

Turning it off completely distorts the audio quality to the point where the mids are gone.

Speakerphone being weird; Is this a feature or defect?

I was using my Note9 on a phone call today with speakerphone on. I noticed some odd behavior where the earpiece and bottom speakers were both acting as speakers, but randomly, the earpiece would become quieter and only the bottom speaker would be loud. After some investigating, I realized that the earpiece became quieter ONLY when I either put my phone near my head (approximately 1 foot away or closer), or when my hand went near the screen. Note though, that the earpiece never gets muffled physically.
I'm trying to see if my phone is defective or if this is actually a phone feature. A safety feature, to be precise. I THINK that this is a feature to prevent you from accidentally putting the earpiece up against your face and blowing out your eardrums (exaggeratedly speaking), but I can't be certain.
Can anyone chime in if (A) they know this is in fact a feature, or (B) if they are able to also repeat the symptoms by doing the steps below? I'd greatly appreciate it. I still have time to do an exchange (only had the phone for 3 days now) and need to take advantage if my phone is broken or defective.
How to repeat the issue:
1) Make a call
2) Put phone on speakerphone
3) put phone on flat surface with nothing on top of it.
- - earpiece should be acting like a speaker
4) Hover your hand about 1 or 2 inches over the earpiece. Do not physically muffle the earpiece though.
- - earpiece should become quieter
5) remove hand from over the earpiece
- - earpiece should get louder again
6) Pick up phone and move it to your ear
- - earpiece should stay loud until it gets close to your head
Again, I appreciate any feedback.
Mine does it too. I'm guessing it may be intentional, to keep the speakerphone from blasting into your ear if you put the phone to your ear as if for a normal call.
