[Q] Alternatives to Navbars - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Are there are any alternatives to the Navbars?
I feel as though they take up too much space, when I'm playing on games or surfing the internet I want to utilise the 5 inch screen and not have the chunky Navbars taking up screen space.

(I apologise if this was in the above post somewhere)
You could Google an app called LMT, you should find an xda page about it.
After installing, go to /system/build.prop, add the line "qemu.hw.mainkeys=1"
Reboot.
Hope I helped!
EDIT: Just found it in the above post (the link didn't work for me the first time, for some reason), so disregard this.

[APP] Cut the Rope

Cut The Rope for Android is here! And it's FREE!
For any iOS user out there who has played the game, they know it's pretty addicting.
Anyway, this app is not on the market; the only way to get it is on getjar.
On your phone just go to: http://m.getjar.com and look for Cut the Rope. If it doesn't show up on the main page for some reason go to the bottom of the page and select "Quick Download". Type in the code 75206 and a download page for Cut the Rope should pop up.
Note: It is 15 MB and can be moved to the SD card.
Here is a video for anyone who doesn't know what it is:

My Feelings about the App:
It was actually pretty flawless. No bugs or anything; I couldn't get this to work on AnonymousROM i3; it would freeze after hitting the "Play" button. But since I'm on Deodexed EF02 it has been working beautifully. Other than that, the only thing I want is more levels! They have about 150 levels right now, however, the first twenty are pretty easy.
Definitely worth trying!
5/5
I try new games on a daily basis, I'll give this a whirl and see how it is. Thank for posting this!

Nice. Thanks for this post.

Found out moving it to the SD card froze my phone while trying to load a level. Keeping it on phone storage is fine though.

Moved to SD and have played through all the cardboard levels with no freezing. Initially I had a couple of times where the screen went black and then came back on - I suspect it may be due to ad-blocking. After that it played for a good 20 minutes perfectly. Thanks for the find OP!
Love this game No problems at all
it's also in the amazon appstore starting today. not for free though.
Thanks

Fun game! Best part is that it's not broken like Words with Friends!

All that downloads is the download helper apk which is just a link to the getjar webpage. How do I download the actual game???
Edit: I had to go to the non mobile site to get the download to work.

Cool Jelly Bean trick!!!

I was just playing around with my Nexus 7 and I came across a neat and convenient trick to dispose of a app from the app drawer that you may have mistakenly selected and you only get three options uninstall, app info or simply drop the app on the home screen of your Nexus device. Well, there's a fourth option! Simply long press a app from your home screen or app drawer. Then, fling your finger that's holding down the app down up and release! That's it! From the home screen you don't have to take a app all of the way up to the white x remove then red release delete. From the bottom or where ever that app is on your screen you want to remove or replace, just press and hold the app you want to remove, fling your finger in motion down then up release and watch it fly away off of your screen! I think this only works with Jelly Bean, but this my friend is very convenient!

I can add another cool trick: slide up from the bottom of the screen where the 3 buttons are to bring up the Google search. Neat.
Another cool trick in Jelly Bean. Settings > About Tablet/Phone > Android Version (tap repeatedly for surprise)

It shows a lockscreen-style circle for that. Kinda unnecessary, but cool. A quick swipe up from the home button works just as well.

There's an easter egg in the settings app. Go into "about tablet". Tap the version number many times. After that, press and hold the Jelly Bean.

That is actually launching Google Now. If you do not have search history turned on for your google account, you will only see a google search.
If you have history, it will show more information cards.
I'm not quite sure if you're serious or you're really just now discovering the features marketed in the presentations.

Not everyone watched the presentations. No reason to be unnecessarily mean. I thanked him since I didn't know about the trick at all and these types of threads are awesome.
couldnt do it for the life of me and figured it must be a N7 thing only at the moment. But then I re-read the directions on how to do it... derp:silly:
Thanks guys for your help hints!

I watched the presentation but only recently realised the two finger trick for expanding or reducing notification sizes!

2 finger trick? Pinch zoom doesn't seem to do anything..
Tell Google now to do a barrel roll see what happens

slide two fingers up or down instead. Won't work on all notifications of course

If you long press either the back button or the multi-window button (I forget the technical name of it) and swipe up it will bring up google now as if you were holding down the home button.

[Q] Screen going black when adverts play

Hi Guys,
I'm currently running CM10.2-20130827 and experiencing some odd behavior in some apps.
Namely when using apps that have in streaming adverts built in the screen goes black when the adverts appear, I can circumvent this somewhat by putting my finger on the screen and moving it about, but if I then remove my finger it goes black again. I think it must be something to do with how the adverts are overlaid on the screen.
I am seeing this behavior in the following apps
Bad Roads
Tapiture
The Chive
to name a few, I basically see it in any app that has streaming adverts.
Does anyone know if there is a fix for it, or does it need to be escalated to the CM crew.
Quick search would have gottin you the answer of this is a know problem with cm10.2 graphical glitchs in browser and apps that have advertisements. Use adaway to remove adds and it will be greatly reduced

Excuse my tardiness, I did a quick search but found nothing . Thanks for the tip about adaway I'll give it a try. Thanks.

N4 addon's / apps you can't live without it

hi guys,
sometimes you see a screenshot and you want to know what's that for an app or feature. So I thought to open a thread where you can post these things you can't live without it. I'm interested and searching for new things - so let's post!
So I would start:
For me it's an app called swapps. It's like the @ppbar who's integrated in some custom roms. See the screenshot.
Play Store link.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.schiztech.swapps&hl=de
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1992163
Not sure it is related to N4...
Anyway this might be interesting but this app you talk about, I don't see the point as you can do it with recent apps or simply go back to home screen?!
(Sorry about negativeness of this comment^^, this is a good idea to discover interesting apps though)

A recent discovery

Hey guys, this isn't much but I recently found out that if you search up those special keywords like "askew" and "do a barrel roll" in the Google search app, they will actually have the same effect as they do on a desktop!
Sent from my MB886 using Tapatalk
I'm not sure if they do it every year, but if you Google "let it snow" around Christmas or wintertime it'll start snowing on the page.
Old news is old

There are a few easter eggs in youtube as well. search for:
beam me up scotty
or while the video is buffering, hit one of the arrow keys (plays snake!)
