Unbranded or Voda ? - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Am getting a really good deal from Voda retention team in an upgrade to the one compared to phones4u.
I'd probably root the phone so just wanted to know if its worth paying extra to get the phone unbranded from p4u ?

If you root the phone I'd just get the vodafone one. If you mean root it and put on a custom rom.

I am just charging it right now, but once done I will post the rom version.
I got a VF one, first thing I did was flash to the HTC OEM version, the VF one is slow as hell, what would be useful though is to get the SAT app back, although not desperate for it as I have TT7 now which is excellent. VF really know how to screw a ROM up, they did the same to the TYTN one.
I actually lashed my orange one with the euro rom and found it pants, this voda rom is not so bad, except for the colour. PLus side it is unlocked. Right my rom and radio are as follows:
ROM 1.37.161.2WWE
ROM DATE 06/26/08
RADIO 1.00.25.03
PRROTOCOL 52.26A.25.09U
Orange Diamond
I got mine from Orange yesterday. i too have noticed the poor 35 coverage - the device is most of the times in G mode.
although it's Orange branded , i got it through Phones4U. So at least it doesn't have the Orange usual crap colorings and themes. (it looks exactly as the usual HTC stuff).
because i'm horribly new to this diamond stuff, i still don't know whether the rom is original HTC or Orange version. Could anyone confirm if his Orange rom version is different from the one in my signature? thanks.
at least i'm still in the 7-day cooling off period and can return.
The orange rom is the generic rom, I got mine from phones 4u also. Orange were not able to tango the rom in a rush to get ot out. Though the store demo ones I saw are tangoes.

Also if you upgrade you radio to .05 version you will see an improvement. I spent money unlocking mine to return it oh well. As I travel a lot and in my office there was no reception.

Is the vodafone HTC diamond really UNlocked? that could decide it on whether i upgrade with Orange or go to Vodafone? Also, has anyone compared Orange Diamond to Voda Diamond in terms of responsiveness etc...?
Thanks
anyone has the vodafone uk rom?
I have flashed my diamond before dumped it.
Nice to have it as backup.
Thank you.
Vodafone UK Rom
I have a brand new Vodafone HTC Diamond. I do not like the white-red looks, I'd rather have the black one.
But wouldn't flashing the rom invalidate my 2 year warranty?
I have found the dump.arj (Vodaphone rom dump), though not sure how to put it back to my phone if I need to... Instructions provided in that thread were confusing, but they become more clear once I have managed to download the kitchen (currently unavailable )
And then - which new rom is the best for UK (has most bug fixes and best performance)?
Sorry for my ignorance but this is the first try to flash any roms... I would be really grateful for some hints/advice

[Q] Buying a SGS

I want to order a SGS and I have two choices:
1. Buy a unlocked, unbranded one for 469 EUR or,
2. Buy one without subscription but blocked for 6 or 12 months to the actual operator for 429 EUR. The telecom is Bouygues Telecom from France.
If i choose to get the second one i will have to unlock it, since im not going to use it in France, can it be done (easily)?
Also if i choose to get the second offer would i be able to install official I9000 firmwares released from Samsung, XEU version (like JP6 Froyo released lately), or do i have to wait for the telecom to release their own?
Thanks.
Anyone? I really need some advice fast cause I need to order it soon.
Thanks.
Bump!
I don't really like to do this, but 3 days 0 answers :O.
It's not difficult to unlock. If you read a bit through the forum you can do it very easy . And about the update, u can do any update you want through kies simply by changing the registry and fooling it that you have a phone from england or US or whatever . Hope this helps. Good luck

I would buy it unlocked. When you have already pay 400 EUR a difference in 40 EUR is not a big deal. There is less problems too when you buy it unlocked and you will not have to unlock it yourself, and you might damage it if you don't unlock it right.

I read the important threads even though I didn't do anything wrong to my device
Thanks for your replies.
Surely i read threads regarding unlocking, just wanted to be sure. I'm more worried about the branding and updates though.
I just ordered my unbranded/unlocked Galaxy S , a bit pricier around 500 EUR but that's the medium price for the device in market right now .

[Q] HTC OTA update

I intend to buy a HTC Incredible S in Swiss as it is on sale ATM for a really nice price. I wonder if I bring it back to Vietnam in SEA, can I still use the OTA update for Europe if I want to?

for branded ... You will not able to use different carrier, s-offed will not get OTA. why bother with OTA, once OTA come up. You can download the ROM and doing RUU by your self. Btw which part of vietnam is you live in (?) last week I visited Ha Noi, Hai Pong and HCM City (Saigon). Most vietnam ladies are great ... slim and nice looking
Thanks for the answer, I'm only curious as I have used two Samsung devices and they can be upgraded wherever depending on its CSC (country sale code). I wonder if HTC put on an IP check to see if I'm in the correct country in case I want to use OTA, might be never though. Still any info on that?
The phone I got is unlocked non-branded one, it's branded new and for only 250USD.
About Vietnam, well I live in Saigon and Hai Phong is my home town. About ladies I know what you meant hehe, only if they're a little more top heavy...

[Q] [Guide] Buying HTC One International

Hi Everyone
I am thinking of buying latest release form HTC i.e Htc One form Australia. I am getting it at low price online form DirectBargains.com.au but i am afraid whether it will work in USA. Does my warranty
only valid in Australia or Worldwide ?

If you purchased your One from Australia, it will only have regional warranty. So if any problems occur, you will have to bring it back to HTC Australia and get it repaired. That is only available if the place where you intend to purchase is an authorized dealer.
Australia HTC One will not work completely with USA network. It will certainly lose 4G LTE compatibility and will have reduced reception due to different radio requencies used in USA and Australia.

[Q] Purchasing a One in the UK

Hi all,
I am travelling to the UK this summer (I live in Israel), and after making great use out of my Desire for almost 3 years, I feel it's time for an upgrade. Now, I have checked a number of shops that offer the phone, however the prices vary by about £10-£20 (Clove, Handtec, Phones4U - even O2, but it's SIM locked for 12 months). So I'm at a loss as to where to order from. Maybe Amazon.co.uk?
After purchasing the device, does anyone know whether or not I can claim VAT back (due to not living in the EU)? That would save a few extra £'s..
I am also concerned about the network bands it uses - I think the one I need is the 801n (900/2100 3G) - do all vendors in the UK sell this particular variant? Also, is this rumour about a 64GB device even worth holding my breath for? 32GB could definitely be more than enough...
Finally, warranty - if anything happens (touch wood that it doesn't), would sending the device via airmail back to the UK be sufficient for warranty purpose? Or is it void if I live outside of the UK?
Many thanks for all help provided
I do not know about the other questions, but you will not be able to claim VAT back in the UK. I believe the UK is the only country you cannot do that in; I have done it in France, Sweden, Germany and some others, but not in the UK. One question, though, how are you going to buy a device that is sim locked for 12 months, or in other words, how are you going to buy a contract-locked device if you do not actually live there? Wouldn't they require green cards, credit cards, proof of residence and such? Or at least that's how it was with AT&T and the iPhone.
Well I figured that the pay&go offer meant you didn't need an address..
Regardless, the vat and sim locked version are the last of my worries compared to the other questions.

Most of the sellers you have listed sell sim unlocked versions of the One but I don't know how the prices compare to those you have.
I have purchased phones from both Handtec (online) and Carphone Warehouse (in store) and always pay for sim unlocked.
As to the model the ones available in the UK will be the M7-UL 801n which is the international variant and should be fine for most of the world but you will need to check the frequencies available before purchase.
Hey again..
I just checked, and it seems that MobiCity have a UK website selling the 801S version, as well as a 64GB version!?
Does this even make sense? That's the Australian/Asian version AFAIK..
