[Q] Dev. edition stuck in Safe Mode[!].. - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I can't think of anything that was done to trigger this. I remember turning it on during a charge to check the phone.. I then turned it off. Later I came back to do the same thing.. SAFE MODE. I've searched around but I don't think I've found this issue with the M7 but only similiar "One" phones that are usually accompanied with volume rocker issues; I have none.
My phone is bone stock. No custom anything. Any ideas?

[Q] Hero Magically Bricked?

Well today for some reason, my hero isn't working anymore. I had not changed any settings nor flashed anything or even charged it wrong. The symptoms are that everything appears to be working except the screen. A battery pull makes it so the phone vibrates when its turned on, and the buttons at the bottom even light up when used. I think its a screen problem because if not for that, the phone would work fine. What would cause this and is there any way I can get this fixed?
I can possibly help.
Are you rooted? Do you have a custom recovery and if so what version? Is your bootloader s-off?
If your answer is no to all the above
Try holding the volume down and press the power button. Does it boot into the bootloader?
Are you stock?
If so there should be an option for recovery. Press it.
Let me know any results. I'll post more info as needed.
Yeah sorry, I am rooted with the latest amon_ra (3.5 i think) however, even if i boot up with the volume button down, the screen doesnt show anything. I am fairly certtain this is a hardware issue... I might as well just break down and pay sprint the $35
Yea its bricked then. If you can get to the bootloader we couldve fixed it.

[Q] Broken power button on my SGS... Solutions?

Hey everybody, I have been using a refurb I9000 for over a year now. After a year of being knocked about, it's still a great phone. I'm running Slim Bean on it at the moment and its handling it great
Unfortunately, a couple months back, the power button stopped working. The phone was acting weird one weekend and stuck in a bootloop - think some water got in it on a night out. Took it apart and stuck it in a bowl for a week, which fixed it and it's been working fine ever since except for the power button.
The button works if you press it repeatedly for like quarter of an hour, but I'm scared I'm wearing it down even more by doing that. Without that button, I can't switch my phone on or do the 3-finger salute.
Right now, if I want to reboot or go into recovery mode, I have to use the buttons in the notification bar. If it runs out of battery, when I plug it in I can still get into download mode by holding the menu button + volume down. To get it into normal mode I have to plug it into a computer with Heimdall installed and get it to print diagnostics 'print-pit), which makes the phone reboot out of download mode into a normal boot. It's not an ideal solution!
When my phone dies when I'm on the road, I'm phoneless for several days.
I'm pretty confident I've voided my warranty on this phone loong ago, plus trying to get a replacement is the easy way out
I've seen custom 'battery charge mode' firmware out there- you know the screen you get when the phone is switched off and you plug it into a charger? Somebody had written a custom one of those screens with extra useful information on it. I can't remember what it was called though! Google hasn't been useful at all in finding it, either. I've also noticed the charging screen looks different on my Slim Bean ROM compared to the stock one. So it must be something that's fairly easy to customize...
With that in mind, I might try hacking the charge screen to listen to the menu + volume control buttons and be able to boot the phone that way.
Either that or I make a USB jig that can send enough bits to the phone in download mode to get it to reboot...
But as I'm only good at breaking hardware, I think I'll stick to software hacking for now.
Does anyone know the name of that custom battery charging screen I mentioned? Maybe there's more than one? If I can get ahold of them I can hopefully find out how they work.
This is a pretty specific + techy question, so apologies mods if this is in the wrong section! I don't think I'm allowed to make threads in the Android dev. forums yet though- you need to have over a certain number of posts for that, right?

[Q] Capacitive butoons backlights issue

Hello Everybody,
I've got a strange issue with my One: I purchased it to a friend 2 months ago, and from the beginning I saw that the capacitive buttons backlight was not working (it was ok for me, saw it with my friend before purchasing, and didn't want to send it in warranty for that).
I tested it also with HTCs test menu (*#*#3424#*#* in the phone interface) and they still didn't illuminate. But since last week-end, sometimes the buttons light up. When it's the case, their backlight works correctly, the brightness is automatically adjusted with ambient light level. But the buttons still don't light-up 90% of the time.
Does someone has an idea on what's going on?
Many thanks in advance for your help.
Best Regards
Ludobal
More information needed
Is it a stock Rom?
Unlocked Bootlaoder?
Custom Kernal?
Have you tried a factory data reset?
Hi, and sorry, I should have specified all of that before.
I'm on stock ROM, rooted, and TWRP installed.
I already did several factory resets (didn't have the choice, I had some crashes after installing updates or after restarting the phone), without any change.
Thanks a lot for your help.

I am having the same problem as you. In the dark, when the buttons are supposed to light up, they sometimes do and sometimes don't. I've done a reset with no change.
I'm wondering if I need to send my phone in for repair. It's a stock 64GB Developer Edition on 4.1, with the exception of S-OFF.
Hello,
It's not specially a good news, but I'm glad I'm not alone with this issue... I didn't want to send the phone to repair only for this backlighting issue, but now I saw it work, I really wonder if I can find a solution somewhere.
Regarding the problem itself, just a precision: when the backlight works, if I use the phone for a few minutes (2 or 3), the buttons lights systematically turns off. It comes back (or not) after a short standby period.

When my lights work, they work properly, staying on when needed and turning off when they are supposed to.
Also, when you turn the phone on with the charging cable plugged in, the button lights blink as the phone is coming on. When the lights stop working, the button lights do not blink, so it could actually be a hardware issue.

Bricked XSP

I guess there's a first time for everything...
Tried to install one of the stock customer kernels. It did it OK just as it always has, but then... the device wont even go to fatboot mode.
Maybe there is something I am overlooking, but I am pretty sure I have a paperweight device with me at the moment.
Anyone got any recommendations as to what I can try and do?
Can you state your device model, and which kernel you were trying to flash?
Catching my breath, letting it go, turning my cheek for the sake of the show
Basically I managed to fix it.
As most of these issues it was a PEBKAC. Dont. Ask.
Model is C5303, Was trying to flash one of the custom stock kernels. The symptom was that the device would not switch on. Not the typical "it's booting to the Sony logo". It would be dead, caput, finito.
Anyways after looking around in forums etc, I could only find the simulated battery pulls (power and volume rocker) that were working on the Ion, but wouldn't work on the XSP.
So I tried Volume Rocker + and the Power Off button under the back cover.... Voila! Fastboot mode!
.....well.
At least your problem was fixed.

No display on HTC One M7

Hi,
I recently found a M7 without working display. When I try to power it on, the power up sound goes off for about half of second, silence and the sound with the pauses go off until the phone dies. Is it the bootloader issue or is it something else? Not sure if I can factory recover it and if I manage to do that, if I will be able to set it up.

Thanks!
