[Q] N7000 gti9220 strange Hardware mix - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

N7000 on LSZ.DBT Stock ROM, rooted with PHILZ Kernel
now after repair on LM5.TGY not rooted, want to update to LSO.TGY and/or root it only if update not possible
To all the Hardware specialist of the community.
Hope s.o. can help me.
I got a strange repair on my N7000.
Out of the blue (I was reading an ebook, so no flashing no wiping no deleting big files..............) I got a hard brick. My phone didn't boot. After some tries it even didn't switch on.
I went to my local Samsung shop they told me it was a hard brick of the emmc/motherboard . Repair would cost about 2000 RMB (240 Euro).
i already had replaced the screen some month before (1800 RMB) and the audio jack input (400 RMB). Well you all understand how I felt at this point in time. However, my street shop gave me an address for repair for only 500 RMB. I decided to go for it.
They repaired it within 2 hours and all works fine so far. Now I wanted to flash a firmware (update via KIES) and it always stopps in the middle, thank God I could restart it and it works fine.
Calling the shop, what they had done, I got informed that they have put in a part of an GTI9220 ( replacing the broken memory part), as this is supposed to be brick safe. My phone shows in all information screens the N7000. I don't know how they did this. However, it seems that I cannot update with KIES.
Now my question to the community (the Chinese didn't want to give me a clear yes or no, as they are afraid if it bricks again, I might hold them responsible)
Can I flash with ODIN and/or mobile ODIN ?????
If not, can I at least root my phone using either supersu.zip or a philz-kernel to flash via recovery??????????
Does the flashing of a Kernel read/write this famous part of the memory which was broken, or does it just write some data in order grand full access (root rights) does it write just through the system or does it use predefined address blocks of the memory (then I am probably done as the new Hardware may have different addresses)
I am NOT a HW tech guy, but I am a quite experienced user. No problems with flashing and rooting up to now........
So, if s.o. could give me advise on how to update and/or root this f....ashion phone, I would appreciate :crying:
greetings from Sichuan China
(of course I am aware that all your advise will be given without any obligation for the case my phone bricks)
MODERATOR...if this place is wrong , please move it to the proper section.

It was my understanding that they were the same model. Unless the I is different from the gt9220
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app

hmm same as gt9220. i can understand but what's the difference to N7000, as this was supposed to be my model?
would you dare to root it in the current configuration?

Gt-n7000=gt-i9220
I got gt-i9220 and using it for almost 6 month.

sounds interesting. so what shall I do? do you think i can flash an update or root it.
The point is, yes I know the GTI9220 and the N7000 must be quite close or even the same, but they put GTI9220 hardware into my N7000, so
question: can I root it nad / or update it without getting a brick again?
PS: would you pls tell me what firmware version you are on at the moment?
I couldn't find a DBT (German) ot TGY (HKong) version vor the gti9220

lucky man 250 RMB. and..... I got not an N7000 part.....for 500 RMB. But your repair was not at Samsung/shanghai, was it?
thanks for the advise to use PC ODIN. May be I'll give it a try.......

I want to know how to root a samsung captivate without a usb cable because my usb port for the phone doesnt work and the captivate doesnt let me install any apps for rooting because the firmware i am on does not have unknown sources in it. I was thinking, is there a way to root it using an update.zip in recovery. If there is then please upload it for me. I am on recovery 3e just to let you know. Please help and thanks in advance

1. I think that app only roots eclair, but could be wrong.
2. Its not in the market, therefor he would need unknown sources to be able to install it...

So what should I do please I need help. I remember rooting my vibrant with one click lag fix but this is when it was at the market and when I tried to root it, it downloaded an update.zip file and made me reboot into recovery and reinstall packages. Then I had root on the vibrant. What I'm wondering is of there is an update.zip for the samsung captivate. If there is then please provide a link. Also does it matter if I am on recovery 3e
Yes it matters that your have 3e recovery, that is now the bane of your existence, because even if we did provide an update.zip for you 3e requires signed zips and i'm quite sure none exist.
There are workarounds to get 2e recovery back BUT those either require a working USB port or you to have root already...
so unless you get that port fixed I think you're sol...
Keep looking though maybe someone does have a signed zip but I haven't seen it.

Is there an update.zip that has a verified signature. If not then can't someone get it and do some tweaking and try and make it work. Please, and to let everyone know that I have already sent the phone to samsung and they determined that it is beyond economical repair. Whatever that means lol

considering rogers will fix (by sending to samsung) my REALLY cracked screen for 75$ (out of warranty for smash), a usb port would probably be less, if your carrier offers such services

I doubt the will support an of carrier branded device, but it's worth a shot.
Or you can try Samsung directly.
I feel your pain...sorry. I was just curious, your phone charges OK via the USB port but data doesn't transfer?
Sent from my Cappy
samsung provides support, not tmobile, in this case
also, i dont get why someone would want a captivate on tmobile in the us when you can just get a vibrant or galaxy s 4g.....
No I just like the way the captivate looks. To answer your question about whether it charges or not. The answer is no for everything that's supposed to function properly. Meaning the USB port does not work in general. The question is, how hard is it if I repair it myself and could someone help me out here and make an update.zip that would work through recovery 3e

Try and understand this. Read it slowly if you have to.
THERE WILL NOT BE A WORKING UPDATE.ZIP FOR RECOVERY3E.
None of us work for Samsung and we cannot sign the zips. Try to take a few minutes to let that soak in. We have been dealing with recovery 3e since October/November of last year. There has been many efforts but bypassing it requires root. So stop asking for something that is likely NEVER going to happen.

galaxy note wifi problem help

Hello, first of all thank you very much for this wonderful forum, I hope you forgive me qe for my English, as I am new to the forum and I am Spanish.
I have a serious problem with the wifi on my galaxy note, its former owner change me for galaxy s2, porqe the note said he had a problem with the wifi since I update to 4.0.3 GB wifi stopped the work for you.
I changed the phone and I've tried all the wifi of my note is as if there remains in activating wifi in settings onn-off button does not let me press it appears in dark gray, takes one minute trying to activate mast fails, to try to activate wifi I have to enter from the button onn-off will not let me.
Well I've done everything I flashed to GB 4.0.4, I restored the efs folder, I opened the phone in case it was the battery problem surfatada, and factory reset, I have done everything and there is no solution, please can you help something any ideas???
thanks in advance and sorry.
try going back to a GingerBread rom 2.3.6 and do a factory wipe from recovery menu and check if the wiFi works or not
I've done that like 3 or 4 times and does not work any other ideas???
so it doesn't work on gb either... may be a hardware issue
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
I doubt it is a hardware problem because Habri inside the phone and is not perfect is surfatada battery problem.
I don't understand

I've got the same issue since yesterday....on rocket rom v11.
Everything worked wonderfully until yesterday, when wi-fi stopped working. I've tried to restore previous backups and to change kernels, without success.
What do you suggest? Full wipe?
if its an all of a sudden problem wipe mite solve this

Well, yes, I'll try a full wipe then. Wiping dalvik/cache only didn't work
because I'm tired of changing roms do all wipes to restore efs folder and everything and not to do I'm tired, I opened the note 2 times and I see nothing unusual in it, there is certainly another solution someone from this forum had to go to him?
why are you opening the phone up? if wifi has stopped working then the first thing woudl be to change the kernel if that fails restore older rom that was working, if you have opened the phone up its posible you have damaged it
opening the note wont let u know if its a harware fault or not.. if the wifi chip doesnt work.. that doesnot mean when u open the phone u will see it broken into 2 pieces.. infact i would have taken it to a service center and taken some professional advice
I have recommended the proo efs, but I have no idea how to use it, my question is I have my imei correct note but possibly the former owner of the folder alchivos erase efs, delete files if this affects wifi? ? Any chance that I can recover missing or something?
when setting in note * # 526 # test wifi ago, and this is the result of what makes me, NotSet driver loaded, any idea what may be happening to my note???

this can only be repaired with a special JTAG,same that can fix soft bricks.this jtag can rewrite the imei.dont try other methods, this is the only one working.start looking for a service with this tool.here in romania costs about 10 euros....

Thread owner should have mentioned that he bought a new eMMC chip and had it soldered on the MB (he hints at his project where this was discussed).
So all the normal possible solutions didn't work.
So maybe something went wrong when soldering.
Or if using a new eMMC chip on a Samsung board this needs some special "initialization" of the chip.
Or each chip has an hard coded IMEI inside, so that using backups or the polish repair with the old IMEI won't work.
(Added an answer here because I think the thread soon will moved to Q&A)

just find an early rom which has efs. img and flash through odin. It will give you what you need, except for original emei. That you can get Samsung or Polish way
edit, finding that rom will be difficult, but its out there
edit here it is
http://www.sammobile.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3136
It will change your csc, but you can change that by flashing the csc file of your rom of choice, then the *#272*youremei# dial. Note do this on safe kernel only

I have tried installing a 2.3.6 ROM but I still had no IMEI. Maybe the ROM didn't had efs file like the one you've mentioned. I'll try it so thanks anyways...
yeah flash efs file after flashing the rom separately. Set clear efs to yes.
all at own risk

And do you use your genuine battery or another one?
Maybe try to buy a new battery from eBay, they also have the real LG OEM batteries there. Or try with a cheap Chinese battery.

Odd, most likely your battery is broken, you should have a 6 month warranty on the battery (because batteries are 'consumables').
Try to contact LG and let them send you a new battery.

I think the problems is from the firmware (after an official update to Jelly it give me this message), I do some "googling " but i have not found a custom ROM (AOKP, JellyBAM or Cyanogen ...) i think if i have a firmware like (on the kdz format) i can send it to my phone via kdz-update (i find it in the forum) and perhaps it can solve my problems

Why do you think your problem is referred to original firmware? Nobody with official firmware, here, have this problem.. So, maybe the question has to be referred to the battery, as Arne said..

I think any original battery should work with any official update released by LG. So if it doesn't, there's a problem (as has been said, probably with the battery itself), which you should solve with a LG Customer Support center.
I have the same problem, after the update with the Support Tool (I think it loaded the Netherlands version) I got the same message. I called LG and now they are sending a new battery. Although it's very weird that only after the update the message appears.
Do you think it's worth trying to downgrade or to use the Europe Open version?
Received the new battery today and it's working. The only visible difference on the battery is the date which is printed on the label: The old one has 2012.11.23 (L) and the new one has 2012.12.18 (L).
Thanks for all the info!

NE3 (kitkat) which is easily rootable, which you can then go to lollipop (and keep root) easily enough from there, should you wish. MF1 is ancient, no wonder it's giving you issues.
Even if you don't need or want root, go with NE3. It's the most stable of the recent builds, and from there you can either stay on kitkat or easily upgrade to lollipop, with or without root.

DON'T use kies. Trust me on that. The download link you asked for. Extract all four files and use all four concurrently with Odin should look like:

I would strongly recommend using Odin v3.09 if you aren't already, I have it for you if you need. Yes I realize the picture shows 3.07 but trust me I've done this a million times
Alright I'm gonna do it right now hopefully no errors occur I'm gonna post to tell you what happens
Oh! I should mention, when you do this, your phone will automatically reboot on its own a couple times, and one of those times will be to the stock android recovery. This is completely normal, just leave your phone alone and let Odin do its thing. I say this because I've seen so many people freak out when their phone starts doing stuff on its own. Just let Odin go, it knows what it's doing. Good luck!
