[Q] Any tweaks for skipping tracks with the volume keys? - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'd rather not use the double tap apps in the Play Store, they don't seem to work. I really miss this feature from AOSP roms.

I'm looking for a tweak like this also. I've read an article and it said "many" ROMs have this feature, only reason I wanted to root and flash this thing, but is this not the case anymore?

i know custom sense roms have volume skip and pause

all custom roms or certain ones? Is it a mod? Or built into the rom? Where's the option for it?
I'm asking because I flashed a custom sense rom already (trickdroid) and have no idea how to turn this on.

I think it's on by default as long as screen is off long press vol up skips forward and long press vol down for play/pause

you can install this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1629653
you need root tho

renovate rom has it included

So no chance for volume track control with no root/custom ROM?

All you have to do is use the old HTC headphones which had a track next/previous button as well as the connect/disconnect button. I used my old headphones from my Desire HD and it works grand. I think you can still get the headphones from various sites on the internet.

You can use the headset you got with the phone and use a app that recognize how many press. Like 2 for next track 3 for previous etc
Here's one https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=se.jays.headsetcontrol

It doesnt work on ONE

No button apps work for now with the One ... also modding for it to work causes Wakelocks and battery drain ... its not a perfect solution
I have written about this to HTC so many times that I almost was about to abuse them in last email .. Its just plain out ridiculous ... if you are selling this as a media powerhouse, this is one of the basic functions alongwith volume keys on the headset !

[Q]Disabling lockscreen

Hello xda,
After a few weeks with my rooted nook touch, I have come to realize how annoying the DRAG TO UNLOCK screen is. Is there any way to skip this and go straight from screensaver to homescreen/book/whatever-you-were-doing? Already scoured the google and this forum and can't find anything.
Thanks in advanced!
yeah, that would be nice if the lockscreen/screensaver could be completely disabled!
I use No Lock by BoD http://www.appbrain.com/app/org.jraf.android.nolock It has a widget for toggling the lockscreen too. I use it on all my android devices that don't have a rom with it built in. I wasn't sure if it would work with the nook touch but it works like a charm. I'd be nice to have a custom rom for the touch that has it built in. Maybe if cm7 gets running on it.

Thank you!
The problem of this utility is that it's always running as service and take some resources.
If I kill it from services keylock starting to work.
Think must be another ways - smth like disable lock in sys settings via adb.
If you're rooted with nook manager just use the nook touch mod manager and under the configure mod option you can disable the drag to unlock and also have a customized banner with your name and number below.

I know this is an old thread, and the Nook Touch Mod Manager fix DOES work if you have it installed, but as someone who just recently re-enabled the two part unlock, let me just mention that it is actually a useful feature. I don't know how many times I have pulled my Nook out to a random page, or random menu selection because the button got bumped whole it was in my pocket. Luckily, no random changes happened that were irreversible. It would really have sucked if I had managed to out it in black text on a black background, for example, and knowing my luck, it's amazing that I didn't.
So that's my two cents' worth. You can disable it, but it is actually quite useful, and speaking from experience, I recommend against doing it.

[Q] HTC Sensation XL - How to wake up screen with volume buttons

Hi, does anybody know wich app can I use to wake up screen with voulme buttons on my Sensation XL?
I don't want to root it..
Thanks
Only custom roms had it. Its no way to make it without root.

and
Code:

he wrote : I don't want to root it..
both needs root permission.
before that wakeup no matter if it is an app or what it needs to edit some system files , and if you are not rooted it aint gonna happens

Just got the HTC one. Any stock android roms?

Hey guys,
So, I just picked up the HTC one today. As I expected, the hardware is great, but I have to admit i'm really disappointed in the software. It feels like a child's toy. So few options. I'm coming from an Xperia Ion. I thought the software on that was terrible and limited but HTC's is worse. It obviously didn't take me long to flash my Ion. and it seems I'm not even willing to give the HTC 24 hours to flash it either. So, I'm used to Cyanogen Roms and other xperia specific roms which were awesome. But I see no stock android roms for the HTC One. All seem to have HTC Stock Roms and that's exactly what I don't want. I don't want to be limited by the choices HTC gives me.
I was just wondering if anyone knew of a Stock 4.1.2 or 4.2 android rom for the HTC. And if not, if you recommend any particular Rom considering the following:
1. I need LTE
2. I want a barebones phone that I can add what i need to, not the other way around. I hate these freakin manufacturers and their obsessive need to add crap to a perfectly fine platform. I'd get the nexus 4 is it's hardware was better and had LTE and didn't look like ****, but hey, that's not an option.
Things I hate about the One.
1. the phone dialer buttons are badly placed
2. no control over headset button actions - even with 3rd party apps
3. No menu button that I can find - yes I know each app has one, but it's not standard and that's annoying
4. Can't seem to find a recent apps/multi-task button
5. Bunch of home app features missing or just too limited - yes I know i can replace with a launcher
Recent apps/Multi-tasking: Quickly double tap the Home key to get this.
(As you may have noticed, long-press Home opens Google Search)
Multitask by double tapping the home button. But ya I flashed to trickdroid for the One and its still HTC stock, but it is alot better, Gives you the option of making the long hold on the back button a menu button.
There a few minimal roms in the development forum.
@kuroneko007 -- thanks for that. looked everywhere. I even tried double tapping a couple times, but seems my timing was off, which is just a testament to how bad an idea that is. Double tap incorrectly and you end up on the home page. No big deal, but all these little things just irk me. Ya, I had noticed the long press home feature.
@sdla4ever -- trickdroid will take a look. was really hoping there'd be a non HTC option, but i realize it's a very new phone and maybe there just hasn't been enough dev time just yet. I am hoping that'll change.
I saw a thread on an app called SwipePad, which will help with getting around the phone from anywhere with gestures, which is cool, so that might help a bit, but i just feel like there are a lot of details I was spoiled with on my previous roms that I'm just not getting here at all. Anyway, any other tricks and tips you guys have found that boost your productivity or provide more options, i'm always open to hearing.
Thanks for your input guys.

Look in the HTC One development forum there are ROMs that are even more minimal.
Give it a month or two. The phone has just been released and many people have not even got hold of their pre-ordered units yet.

Ya, I figured that was the case, but just thought I'd ask, on the off-chance i was missing something obvious. I wonder if Cyanogen will make a ROM for it. Of all the roms i've tried, I think i like the CM ones best, though not by much. SOme really good stuff out there.

I have the opposite problem - I hate the fact that for many apps which already have a menu button a separate menu button appears at the bottom of the screen, taking up valuable screen estate. Any way to stop this?

My suggestion would be to install the Renovator ROM with the de-sense option in AROMA, then install Apex launcher and set gestures for actions you want such as menu and search...etc. Or you could give the CM from the ATT version a shot, but it seems to be an early build so there could be some loose ends right now.
I think this is a great phone the has some questionable design decisions from HTC in both the hardware and software. But everything can be somewhat dealt with with a little trial and error and research.

I found a much better way - I installed this kernel and disabled the three menu button menu - now use the htc logo as the menu button!
@apd - that's exactly what I mean. Sure the apps have their own menu area, but it's a waste of space and not always in the same place for every app, which is annoying and like you said takes up real estate. if one of the capacitive buttons could serve as the menu button, that would be awesome. As for the last reply, what do you mean you disabled the 3 menu button menu? I understand that it's possible to use the htc logo as a cap button, but what other button are you referring to that you disabled? You referring to the software/app buttons that show up in every app? Please explain. I wonder what roms that kernel works with. Will have to look into that.
@lilhaiti - i agree. phone is solid, but there are a few things that imo weren't done with much thought. I am and have used Apex for a couple years, and between that and Swipe Pad, I've covered most of the basics, tho, essentially I'm installing apps to do what the phone should be able to do from the start. Whatever, no big deal, but these details are still important to me. As for the CM, I'll wait. I'm not in a huge rush, but I'll definitely try it once it's stable.

adding
Code:
qemu.hw.mainkeys=1
to your build.prop file will remove the three dot menus in all apps bar HTC's.
I did this and have the HTC Logo as a menu button.
Bonus question:
Does anyone know how to keep the three-dot menu in apps which implement it properly in the action bar, but hide it in apps where it appears as a black bar?

Music playback controls using volume rocker - doable?

I know that custom ROMs do this easy as pie, especially CM-based ROMs which tend to still be my favorite ones overall, but since the Active has a locked bootloader and apparently not enough serious interest so far to possibly ever get such a thing, does anyone have any idea of how to add such functionality to the stock AT&T ROM (SGH-i537 is my device, of course)?
I know PowerAMP claims to have such capability but I swear that I've tried that app on several devices and it's never worked even when I enable the option in the settings of the app so I'm not even going to try anymore with that one.
My GS4A is carrier unlocked and rooted as well (geohot's method) so I'm not sure if I need to install some root-required app to patch something, or just install a patch of some kind or whatever. If it's a kernel based thing then obviously I'm out of luck there, but if there's some way to enable that aspect it would be a great thing.
And yes I know about the torch functionality with a long press of Volume Up, but I don't have any real use for that so being able to control the music playback (Next/Previous with long presses) would be awesome.
If anybody has any info, I'd be grateful to hear it.
You need to install the Xposed framework and Wanam Xposed. There are a ton of options to tweak Touchwiz in addition to enabling volume rocker support for music apps. I use it and it works perfectly.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=44067239
Also check out the Wanam module. I use both this and Nottach.

OUTSTANDING!!! Thanks for the info, will get on it when I get some free time today for tinkerin' around.
EDIT:
Yep, it works exactly as noted, so thanks again. Funny though, it doesn't work for the native music app on GS4A (presumably a mod of the stock Android music player since it appears to be a bit modded, I don't know for sure). Works with Play Music which is fine, I still keep my tunes local on the microSD card anyway, no sense wasting bandwidth for nothing.
Awesome...

Possible to unroot a custom rom for the 4x HD?

I'm getting sick of the lag on my 4x. Camera tags so long the moment has past, messaging crashes 50% of the time, needing the recent tasks to be brought up and cleared before it will work again, browser is infuriating, and whenever anyone calls, the phone will ring and vibrate, but the screen will take so long in bringing up the 'answer/reject' options that sometimes the caller has rung off before I've even had a chance to answer!
This is on the most recent official 4.1.2
I know there's loads of roms available to me, but I need an un-rooted one, as I use the barclays banking app a lot for my business and it won't work on a rooted device.
Is it simple to just turn off the root mode on a custom rom?
Are most of them quite stable nowadays?

i'm almost sure you can't have a custom rom without root. try using some launcher to get your phone smoother like nova or adw and some task killers like clean master.
AFAIK, Omni is not rooted. You have to install SuperSU separately.
Also OP, this isn't the adequate section of the forum and the title of the thread is confusing too.
Even if you flash a rooted rom, the su app should give you an option to unroot (deleting the su binaries).. However, by doing this you'll lose some rom's features, which work with su permissions.. BTW, @laufersteppenwolf, maybe it's better to move this thread in Q&A section

Thanks all,
I'll have a look at the custom roms and choose a new one I reckon!
RootCloak looks a great idea! Exactly what I need!
I'm assuming most users (those of you who replied) don't find your phones as unusable as mine with your custom roms installed?
