Are the speakers on the X2 as loud as the N95 / Touch Pro2?
Are the speakers on the X2 as crisp as the N95?
How is the bass?
Is it stereo or mono speaker?

This is true in most cases, but the N95's speakers are quite good and noticable, even over a small distance.

GSM-Arena is one of the most legit sources. They have it. Just type Xperia X2 on the site's search bar and read all 5-6 pages of the "preview".
The speakers are located where the battery is location. The long but narrow slits are the speaker grille. The grille design on top and bottom of the phone is just aesthetic.
Now all we need to know is if the speakers are loud and crisp.
If it's as loud as the Touch Pro2, I probably still won't get it.
But if it is as loud as N95 and as CRISP, I will highly consider this phone.

I don't think you know what the heck you are talking about. W960 has 1 speaker and it's mono.
It's not that loud. I even think the Xperia X2 will be louder and more crisp.
Well... the N95 has got to be 2 times louder too.

its true the w960 had one speaker but the sound was very good. the n95 was rubbish, i have had both and the n95 was poor, i dont understand why everyone thinks it was good.

Maybe you had a faulty one or something? Have you heard other N95s except the one you had?
When people say N95 I take it they mean the 8gb version, because the first one sucked big time. I don't know if they upgraded the speakers though, along with the other things they upgraded.

Well yes that's true from all the nokia phones, the N95 has the best speaker so far..

mine was a black 8gb, did not seem faulty (heard a standard n95 which i think was worse but not another 8gb version) i had a w960 at the same time, and i was comparing the 2. maybe next to a standard phone it was good but the w960 i had was really good. have u tried a w960? to compare?

these are the grills not the speakers, there is 2 on each side but the are both on the back, like two lines on either side. have a look at the pic below

Not the w960, but plenty of other device. There are some that are louder, some that are more "crisp", etc. The N95 has the best speakers OVERALL. At least from what I have compared it to. Second place goes to some phones in the Walkman series.
I guess, I have to find a w960 and come back to you on that hehe.

Ganondolf are u sure? The N95 has very crisp sound and you could notice the bass in which most phones can't even do that.

[Q] Disappointed with headphone audio output. any fixes?

I know this is the dev section but posting this on the i9000 board will just allow it to get lost and ignored.
I got this phone to replace my old deteriorating samsung d500. i was quite excited to use this as my main music player since i lost my old ipod.
dont get me wrong.the phone is great. but audio volume and quality is really lacking. i thought it was my imagination at first (since i lost my ipod i couldnt compare) but then i tried out my friends iphone 3g (same headphones of course) and iphone audio quality clearly trumps the galaxy sl's.
I tried using an app for users on GB 2.3.4 called "volume +". it does the job of increasing the volume beyond the phones natural limits, but by exceeding the phones max volume by even just a bit causes the music to be distorted no matter what settings i use.only the phones default setting sounds clear (relatively speaking) I listen to flac,not mp3.
Are i9003 owners screwed on this aspect of our phone? I love android and i love this phone, and i dont think spending over 500usd on an iphone with limited functionality albeit great sounding audio is worth it.
I read volume + is an app that renders the audio on a software level while voodoo sound does so on a hardware level (though it relies on certain kernels which are obviously not available on this phone atm)
Also, voodoo sound from what i know will only be effective with a good sound chip (wolfson) found on the original sgs. does anyone know if the sl uses the same chip?
If this phone is really limited this aspect, can anyone recommend an android unit which has excellent headphone output (comparable to apples devices or even better hopefully)?

Actually, The sound quality is superb. It is not good on the Stock FW, the FW when you buy the phone. But after the Gingerbread update of XXKPH and the Froyo update of XXKB3, The sound is a charm! WHich FW are you on?

im currently on XXKPE.
Ive tried Poweramp and its not really something that equalizers can fix imo. The output just doesnt have enough drive in it. but ill check that link you posted
edit: after trying out what was suggested in the link, ive noticed a slight improvement in volume and bass. thank you!

Buy another headphones.
I purchased Rs 100 headphone just to listen to my phone, and I am quite happy with my sound output with that it has great Bass .but it has no mic.
Accessories headphones sucks.

I wouldnt complain about sound quality while using stock headphones.
I use Koss portapros which sound exellent on my laptop and ipod.

the phones sound is indeed below par and there is nothing we can do about it.on the other hand it is comparable to the iphone 3gs sound quality so cant complain at all.after all very few phones can compete with dedicated mp3 players.if you want sound quality try going for the phones with wolfson dacs

Yeap, I got most of my music advice from spacebar, And he mentioned that never rely on an app's built in equalizer it's horrible! Get the "Equaliser" app from the market, and adjust the settings to +2db on the first bar and +1db on the 5th bar. That will boost your music needs and also it combines well with poweramp/Miui player.

To be honest i recall the post where you mentioned the equaliser app but I merely shrugged it off as one of those eqs that come with every music player out there.
Now let me tell you how WRONG I was to think that. This app really does the job. other EQs just distort the sound, but this one allows for awesome tweaking/customization. I'm quite happy now listening to music on this phone.

Well loudness can be modified with a volume+ app, that isn't the best I'm aware but it does the job to raise the volume to a certain amount. Equaliser is a free app, But in some term's your custom preset doesn't get saved in the free version, oh well, there are alternatives to the paid anyways.
So far so good, I've noticed that PowerAMP has really good volume output, when combined with Equaliser, it really brings out the perfection that is really intended to be heard. Raw beauty. But in order to get the best of your settings, *If you use PowerAMP, you should disable any pre-existing equalizer settings or boosts, etc, they just lower the volume to a point where the deaf can hear*
As for the Equaliser setting's, Some might be wondering how to you enable the sliders in the EQ app, *Put the widget on your homescreen to make it easier to access, plus it's got a sexy layout*, Press the power button on the top right in EQ app and enable the tick mark's hence giving you the option to expand your listening experience.
Bass Boost - 15%~50% the choice is upto you, there isn't any real distortion and the quality is still superb. I'm a fan of dubstep/electronic music so I tend to love it when heavy bass drops in.
Visualizer - Not more than 5%-7%, I don't usually enable this because it tends to make the audio seem a bit faded off. It's only effective when you own a 7.1 Stereo highclass headset.
Reverb - Usually keep this disabled, But the Plate effect is a nice way to focus on the audio aswell as keep track of the bass.

Yeap It works with most supposed player's except for Fede's Ubermusic, That's a bit glitchy and needs a major rework That player tends to start music on it's own D:. Bro the settings I mentioned should be good enough for general listening experience It boosts background while making the vocals audible

Just my feedback but I noticed that the stock music player imo has overall better sound quality and volume compared to poweramp (I'm not a fan of the early 90's-ish stereo ui either). Proplayer has a beautiful ui and good sound but it sucks the battery like there's no tomorrow. Miui player's ui reminds me too much of my old ipod (apple hater)

Apple hater? You truly are my child! SON!! --Err well, on another note, MIUI has a nice shake feature that I really enjoy, I can't take out the phone in the jeepney due to security/anti-theft measures but the fact that I need to shake my leg just to change the music isn't so bad ---Although that might seem like I have parkinson's to some people ;-;

I've tried this out and I have to say its quite good. Props to the chinese devs. UI is attractive yet easy to navigate. The whole setup reminds me of a karaoke machine lol.
It also has the shake function that Misledz mentioned from Miui. This would be my music app of choice BUT...no flac support. BAAAAAWWWWWWW

I like customization, but sometimes it's just stupid

You have to ask why, what is the reason behind the customizations you do. Customization for customization sake is just not going to work.
For me, I customize to make my phone easier to use and better looking, that's all. if a customization doesn't serve neither of these purloses, I'm not gonna do it no matter how cool it may seem.
But sometimes it seems to me people just "customize" to be "cool", "unconventional", "unique", "style" or whatever other phsycological satisfactions people get from it.
This time I'm not gonna get into the crappy themes, cuz people will jsut claim it's their personal opinion to like the ****ty themes.
Let's take a look at this mod:

it's an audio "enhancement" mod that supposidly "improves" your audio.

-System Wide What I can't turn it off if it sucks?
-Maximum Audio Re-sampling (Re-Sampling sound to 48kHz!) Why in the love of ****, would you resample it to 48Khz? anyone who knows ANYTHING about sound quality in digital audio, knows not to resample into a simillar sample rate. You know you might get minor improvements if you upsample it to 88.2Khz or even 96khz. But 48Khz? it's not gonna do anything but vastly decrease sound quality
-DPS Manager V3
-AudioFX DSP Widget [Removed in AOSP/AOKP]
-Massively Improved overall sound How? where? highs lows mids? soundstage? clarity? positioning? warmth? coloring?

Any audiophil knows that in the world of HiFi, Beats doesn't mean ****. nobody uses Beats headphones. People who care about audio quality more than anyone else use AKG, Sennhaiser, Ultimate Ears, Deon excetera excetera, even Bose is more prestigious than Beats.
So, if you know that, "Beats Audio" isn't cool at all.
Clearly, this mod is probably not going to increase your overall audio quality. In fact it will do more harm than good because of the resampling.
People somehow always want to believe that the professionals suck, somehow all the programmers working for HTC are assholes they either don't know how to or don't want to make your sound drivers work. So somehow we require a mod to "fix" it.
There is also a belief that somwhow all the audio mixing engineers and studios are filled with idiots and retards who don't know how to mix songs properly. Therefore somehow we need to add in equalizers, compressors, filters, 3D effects, crossfeeding, SRS audio, doulby audio, beats audio all at the same time to make them sound "better".

And there is the "Sony Mobile Bravia Engine" which people also feel like intergrading into their ROMs and making mods to add this feature to your phone.
This one is really simillar to beats audio. Anyone who knows about display quality knows this is just an advertising tool, it's not gonna imrpove your audio quality in any way. The only way to improve on the software level, is to make a display calibration and make sure you're following stricktly with the sRGB standard.
Any software that deviates from that, will not improve but decrease your image quality, PERIOD.
so Bravia has two choices here, it either does NOTHING, or it DECREASES your image quality. because it's made for ****ty sony TFT TN screeens, it can't be calibrated with whatever non-sony phone you're using.
However there is one exception when image enhancing softwares could potentially work, that is if your image or vidio isn't properly developed. The fix of which isn't to implement a system wide screen filter, it's to fix that particular image! or make your video show up properly by fixing your video player.
so in conclusion, does XDA have a lot of skilled developers? yea you bet. But too bad they don't seem to read up on anything but coding.
Do people in XDA like customizing? same answer. But they don't seem to know why they're customizing their phones.

Don't know much about audio and I mainly just use stock settings and players so I can't comment on that.
Other than that why do you care if others like customising. You don't? congratulations. The basic answer is because people like options. Having options are not a bad thing. people customise because they want to for aesthetics, functionality or both . No point in ranting about it. Why do people like or do anything?

I'm confused at how you've managed to connect these to that particular mod. The mod itself is meant to improve your phone by making it "better sounding"; its rationale isn't just to be "cool", "unconventional", etc. Even if it doesn't work (I wouldn't know), it's still not "customization for customization's sake".

I don't know a lot of things, but I know that xLoud improves the audio quality (in fact, just make the sound louder, and only works with the speaker). I say that because I have a Sony phone. Also, what you can judge on this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1609868

there are physical limits to how loud your speaker can go, and tha cannot be changed by any kind of software. The way to make it louder is to use a compressor, which compresses the dynmaic range of your song. in other words, it makes all the parts that are not on max loudness louder.
This obviously decreases your audio quality, because you want more dynamic range in your audio just like you want 16-bit CD quality audio over the 8-bit NES audio. a compressor won't make your audio 8-bit because it's wayyyy smaller than 16-bit, but it's going in the same direction.
my recommendation for actually getting better sond quality and loudness, is to get a good blutooth speaker. or use some good headphones.

Again, this is for speakers. And I don't see any differences. The sound is really good, and I think 90% of the other Sony users too. Mostly doesn't even know what you know (even some experienced users), so it's good for them.

i used one of the beat mods on my atrix one time and damn did it make it suck worse lol! i rock sennheiser buds and they are awesome, but i tried out like 20 pair of headphones this weekend and i must say klipsch image ones from bestbuy are amazing. when i work off wed im headed back to bestbuy to pick them up while they are on sale :good: i do have to say the dsp manager did make a diff on the atrix though in cm9 i cld tell in my car and on the buds!

This obviously decreases your audio quality, because you want more dynamic range in your audio just like you want 16-bit CD quality audio over the 8-bit NES audio. a compressor won't make your audio 8-bit because it's wayyyy smaller than 16-bit, but it's going in the same direction.

There are physical limits, yes, but generally manufacturers set the max sound that standard volume will achieve below that so as not to have to worry about the speaker being destroyed or the sound being too distorted. Software tweaks can most definitely make a difference. That's a big part of why a lot of people got Power Amp when it first dropped.

yes install a mod that will not only introduce distortions but also has the potential to blow your speaker. that's a great idea.

His reasons are indeed correct. Honestly, who wants a distorted sound quality when they can be the best with stock settings? Being such an audiophile, I highly doubt that most of the people will aware of the decrease in the sound quality, instead of the placebo of the modded 'better' audio mod. It is tuned to be heard better in speakers or headphones (xLoud, Beats boost etc.) for MOST people. So it will (or has it?) becomes a stereotype. Therefore, his rationale is true for me, but false on the majority.
Aaaand, he has the right to rant it out here as long as Archer or other Mods said he could.

but it won't change the fact that some of the mods people post here are more placebo than empirically functional.

Was using DSP Manager, now I switched to beats audio. high performance improvement in my Atrix.
NOTE :- Remove the DSP Manager via Titanium (or similar app) to avoid conflict !!
All credits to the dev RockoDev (2.3) and ...Awesome... (4.0)

but beats audio is a pointless app. its just a preset equaliser that emphasises bass and high treble in a simple S curve through the range.
you can get this exact same effect with dsp or poweramp etc. dont waste your time.
in fact most record producers scream at your average Joe for messing with equalisers and would prefer everyone to keep it flat/neutral.
Many producers reference classical music for a good reason when they calibrate recording studios: all the instruments tend to sing in perfect harmony. They all have a clearly defined space within the mix, and if you move away from flat, you will remove certain aspects of the orchestra.
Leave it alone.

It need not be a pointless app. You need to adjust the curve carefully that no distortion occurs. The DSP gave me noises in its default config. adjusted so many times, but couldn't make it clear. Anyways the beats is giving me perfect sound combination now. As you know beats is being promoted by/included in most HTC phones, its worthy testing.

I am on jokersax CM9 0.8.1 and I uninstalled DSP Manager via titanium backup as recommended prior to flashing the AwesomeBEATS.zip.
AwesomeBEATS constantly FCs while trying to access it through Apollo and well as Google Play Music. Music playback stopped working. Not working with this ROM.

I been included that as an alternative option to DSP manager in the aroma installer for my rom,. beats is great but its meant to be used with headphones and you can tell the difference when its enabled once it senses the jack input..
but this mod is old already, why post a repost?

I think Beats is HORRIBLE. Obviously, there's no 'right' way for music to sound. The only thing that would be close to 'right' is if you were using exactly the same device, amp and monitors as were used to master the music in the first place (and even then there's probably variation in different copies of the same equipment) But personally, I like to hear the vocals in my music, rather than just a muddy bassy din and some ear piercing treble. Everybody has their own opinion on these things
Seems a shame to spoil the Atrix's good quality amplification with this tripe though Count yourself lucky you don't have a One X. It has the most terrible headphone output quality of any device I've owned in a long time, and that includes £10 MP3 players.

He is right. I'm a mastering engineer, and I can tell you that eq is only for correcting mistakes; either in the recording/mixing process, or in the reproduction system. You use eq to return the signal to flat. However, unless you know what's wrong with the sound you are probably just making things even worse.
On the other hand, if you like how it sounds, don't let snobs like us dissuade you!
I only hope that you'd try getting used to even response speakers and/or headphones (if such a thing exists). You'll thank us when you realize all parts of the audio spectrum are equally important.
And thank you to the OP for this, even if it is controversial. =)

I don't always click the thanks button, but when I do it's for informative posts like yours. :good:
Audio equalizers are for broadcast stations and recording studios, you're just undoing what they've already done by using your own EQ to mess with the frequencies. It's not a bad thing to do considering everyone has a different impression of what sounds "good". I tend to enjoy my music at slightly higher bass frequencies than flat when using a good subwoofer.
But yeah, equalizers are used to correct mistakes or unwanted audio frequencies which can be produced by recording equipment and to make certain frequencies more prominent (think, if you have a bunch of low pitch instruments and a high pitch singer, you can bring out those higher pitches with equalization).
Keeping your EQ flat means it stays at the recorded and already equalized levels the artists wanted it at.
But like I said, everyone has different opinions.
My only issue with this post, if I was being nitpicky, is that it's in the wrong forum section! I'd suggest having a mod move it Atrix 4G Themes & Apps section, unless we're defining any "Development" thread something you need to install via nandroid, in which case people may start packaging up their own apk bundles and posting them here as rom extensions.

aint that the truth... i agree 100% with the above statement... i feel the same way about that XLoud hack & Bravia Engine Hack... I've done tons of research and testing on my own phone using the libs and codes and strings and door knobs with dental floss and floor lint under my neighbor's car tire during the summer. lol, what I mean is that these hacks are floating around without any real concrete proof to their advantages or benefits whatsoever, yet I still see people add them into roms like it's that extra golden nugget that will extended life expectancy by 25+ years and people still request them because they swear how good the hack\tweak is that they would really wish to have it included in the rom.
The beats audio, if anything, i feel like just raises the mids & highs almost like a guesstimated pre-configured value meant to be like a one size fits all kind of thing.
Personally, I prefer having the option of doing my own corrections through the equalizer whether it's for the worse or better. In the end it's how it good it sounds to the listeners ear and different people hear sounds sometimes far different than others. So what someone might say is perfect, someone else could hear a brain aneurysm building from the noise pollution. But atleast with equalizers like the one with DSP for example, it's nice to be able to adjust and play with the frequencies instead the levels being preconfigured.
I would love to see the comparison of this with the "XLoud" hack to see which one is doing what it'said to be doing and which one is really just a "hack".

i got this app with custom rom, It doesnt do anything... I mean, anything.
I use note 2, i have Klipsch earphones, so they arent cheap and low quality earphones but Beats app does not do anything.
also I tried this app with Bose Quiet Comfort 15 and still nothing!
Bose 15's got much much better sound quality than beats but app is still useless.
IF i really need to chance EQ, Neutron and Power AMP does the job done.
You can really make your music better or worst with Neutron (Neutron EQ is much detailed) and PowerAmp but Beats does not do anything.
I wish custom roms do not include beats at all...

hey , actually v40 having 2 speaker so with that would we get surround sound feeling like pixel phone has ? Because in specs it says to have Boombox Speaker - inner resonance chamber along with top and bottom speakers provide greater sound levels for boosted bass

It only has one speaker. I think what it is referring to is the bottom speaker and the earpiece speaker which is not a speaker for media but for phone calls. The listing is a bit deceptive unless they actually did what Samsung did with the S9/S9+. The speaker setup on this is just like the G7 ThinQ as far as I can tell.

No it's not true
The earpiece is on when playing music, it's not resonance chamber effect, you can remove the Sim tray to test it,

It is the resonance chamber. No sound comes from the earpiece except during a call. If music came from the earpiece, there would be a difference in sound like the sound is partially muted like it does on the Samsung S9 & S9+. I have checked multiple times on my V40 and my wife's G7 and neither have any sound coming out of the earpiece except during a phone call and neither have the partially muted sound if the eirpiece is covered like the Samsung Galaxy S9 did when I had it and tested it on that phone.
As far as the comment that removing the sim card tray to test just proves more that it is the resonance chamber. The speaker in this phone is not at the bottom of the phone but more towards the middle to allow it to make use of the resonance chamber. Feel free to Google it, there are multiple sites as well as videos on YouTube about it because a lot of people talked about it when the G7 came out and it also pertains to the V40.

The marketing material seems to indicate stereo speakers, but some users chimed in saying they had a hard time noticing... at the time I was trying to find a good Left to Right channel stereo test video on youtube to verify the channeling, but couldn't find a good video to suffice. I still don't own a V40 but will consider one if the price is right.

I hear sound on YouTube, Crunchyroll, Netflix and Hulu from both speakers one at the bottom and the earpiece speaker ._.

We only get the one speaker her in the US. No RAS. No sound comes out of the receiver.

All of my friends using usa v40 got this feature. Also GSMArena review said the earpiece is working
And lg g7 pie update also brings this stereo setup

The LG US website shows nothing about it.
Edit: I just checked again using Poweramp and I do hear music from the earpiece and I notice a change in the sound if I cover it and the speaker and then remove my thumb from the earpiece so it is possible it was activated with the last update my phone got a couple of weeks ago. My wife's G7 is still on Oreo 8.0, and I don't know if it is working as it also got an update that same week.

Hey g7 have single speaker but on v40 dual work. Open the phones back panel & remove button speaker then play music u can trust me. I've broken my back panel & did this & then I know that both speaker work..
