If your using windows 7 you can set it to share media also. I'm not looking at it now but I think somewhere in the top left corner of the stock windows media player there is an option to allow streaming.

You can share media and documents from Windows on the same LAN.

I'm looking for an application that can read music and use playlists located on my computer in Windows Media Reader, using Wi-Fi. My files are all MP3 and WMA.
Can anybody help me ?
Skytunes works via wifi, or 3G

Thanks for the info. Skytunes looks interesting and uses Adobe Air and seems to be able to stream music using WiFi. Unfortunately it does not handle WMA files and a good chunk of my 60+GB of music is WMA...
Here's something interesting...
I just navigated from my phone to a folder on my PC (using EStrongs Explorer), and clicked a WMA file, to see if I could stream it. The file played after about 2 seconds, but the screen was blank so I've no idea what was playing it...?
I'll keep digging...

For rooted phones with custom ROMs (or just custom kernels with CIFS support), and for users that know a bit UNIX and aren't afraid to use Terminal:
Search Development forum for "CIFS mount".
I've been playing with Twonky to serve media from my PC to my Revue. There's also a Twonky app for Android, and so I can now stream from PC to my Nexus...
Works great, kinda expense for PC client (I'm still using demo), and no idea of supported formats, but maybe worth a look?

Subsonic is a good app.
So I recently picked up the KFHD and I am loving the sound and video quality it produces. It's not rooted and I may not try and get it rooted since I will not be using it extensively. The only small problem I have so far if not being able to easily access music or video from my PC easily like I was able to, using app (like allshare) on my phone. If it is possible, how would I go about streaming this media from my PC to my KFHD? I've already tried using ES file explorer to view files and media on my PC but it's incredibly slow and does not load anything..
Hi! You can use BubbleUpnp or plex. Hope it helps

You can also "stream" via SMB (Windows fileshare).
I do this with ES Filemanager and MX player <- works great and is much faster than dlna

Thank you both for your replies! I went with BubbleUPnP and it works perfectly.
Hi,
I am trying to use throw option from album to windows 7 based pc.
I have enabled windows 7 built in DLNA server.
In my status bar on phone, it's showing throw is connected to windows 7 PC.
But album app is giving following error.
"Could not access the player device"
Non of the media picture, music or video, i am not able to throw.
You have to open windows media player click on streamimg allow the player to be remotely controlled

This piece of technology is a huge hit and miss, works when it wants under it's own terms. Wasn't working for me before but it is now to my laptop, but not my tv, and only with video

DLNA Client in Movies App not playing most Videos, "unsupported file format"
Hi,
I didn't find a lot on this by just searching, but I'm sure I'm not the only one having this "problem". I'm talking about the stock movies app and its DLNA Client.
I'm running serviio as media server and with almost every video I try to open from the movies app, I get the error message "unsupported file format" (except some mp4 videos) . When stored locally on the device, all of them play without problems using VLC. And even without it, shouldn't my DLNA server transcode the video? I mean my PS3 can't play *.flv natively either, but it can stream the videos from serviio. I've tried using PS3 media server, too, still no luck.
Does anyone have experience with this? Is there some way to configure a media server in a way that the stock DLNA Client can stream all those formats? I know about the other DLNA clients for android, I was just wondering if it's somehow possible with the stock app.
Thanks in advance.

I guess not enough people care about this or they use other clients. I just hope the Upnp improvements in the new update fix this

I have a Windows media center 7 in my living room. Is there a way to make wmc7 receive DLNA content from my phone?
So I can stream pictures and videos from my phone directly to my htpc ?
I believe there are few dnla servers in play store

Skifta works pretty well for me...
The various ones I've tried, don't see Windows media center as a device I can stream to....
I'm not sure my question is clear, my TV doesn't have smart features like UPnP or DLNA. But I do have a computer media center (htpc) hooked up, so what I want to do is be able to stream videos and pictures from my note 4 to the computer over wifi and show on the tv without copying the files directly.
But I don't know how to "enable" UPnP or DLNA on the computer to accept the connection from the phone. (again the phone would be the source, the computer would be accepting and displaying the content - I think most people do it the other way around)
Easy answer and foolproof. Spend $30+ on chromecast or fire tv stick or read a little about setting up dnla client on your version of Windows
