[Q] Wipe / Factory Reset XZ - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Wiping the XZ always lasts so long and the factory reset? Or because the boot loader is closed?

on a locked bootloader cwm will always take its time to wipe also there is a know fault on locked that you shouldnt factory it due to it has a problem mounting cache and the fails and skips

With an unlocked BL is faster and safer?

[Q] Xperia ZR unable to boot

I can't boot XZR(C5502) since i tried to flash a CWM based Rom.
1)Xperia ZR 10.5.A.0.230 ROOTED[Locked bootloader]
2)Recovery installed Philz touch, cwm, twrp by NUT
3)I have Nandroid backup also have TA backup.
4)I dont remember about USB debugging on or off.
5)I tried to enter in recovery but nothing happend.
6)While entering in fastboot blue LED lights up.nothing on screen.
Please tell what to do?
Please paste a link for ftf file(indian).I can't find 10.5.A.0.230 for C5502 indian.
Is it ok to flash nordic or some other varient of ftf.
1. Did you check if the ROM requires an unlocked bootloader?
2. Did you perform a factory reset in recovery before flashing?
If you can't enter recovery, it's likely that zip you flashed included a kernel, and the kernel flash failed because of the locked bootloader. Find a stock FTF (doesn't matter which variant, only thing that changes is the bloatware and the default language, which you can change on first setup, all Sony media apps are the same), flash it, unlock bootloader (make sure you still have your TA backup, if not, root and take it again), install recovery and try flashing the ROM again.
P.S. Fastboot only shows the blue LED, nothing on the screen, there's nothing wrong.
Good luck!

Yes BE2 will work after restoring TA Backup. I guess (not sure), restoring TA will lock the bootloader as well. Correct me if I am wrong :angel:

Data recovery on stock brick htc one

Hi,
I've just gotten a friend's HTC one that is soft bricked. Bootloader, Recovery and RUU are accessible, but normal boot hangs. hboot is 1.55
There's some important data on the phone he asked me to recover, pics, contacts etc. However, I can't think of a way to access the data. ADB is unauthorized ofcourse.
Can anyone think of a way to authorize adb, pull the whole emmc or just make the whole system boot somehow, maybe issuing some command for minimal/safe boot using fastboot -c?
Thanks,

Yes, it's fully stock. Otherwise I would have flashed a different recovery and pulled everything off it.
Unlocking the bootloader will wipe the phone.

yeah I know.
You probably already tried every basic thing to make the reboot to the OS? Like erasing cache, re-flashing the kernel or even the entire firmware?

I had erased the cache, it didnt help.
How can I re-flash only the kernel or the system partition with a locked bootloader and S-ON?
I can flash the whole RUU, but it will wipe the device.
Any other ideas?
Thanks

Reset To Factory Staying Rooted

Is there any way to reset to factory in custom recovery without losing root or unlocked boot loader?

If you mean a factory reset, as in a full wipe, then you can do this from TWRP and it will not affect root nor your bootloader status.
On the other hand, if you mean re-flashing the factory image, then no, you can not do it from recovery. And you will loose root. But your bootloader will remain unlocked. FWIW, if you are unencrypted, flashing the factory image will also encrypt your kernel again.

does wipe bootloader unlock wipe all data on p8 lite ?

It's not clear for me.
Unlocking bootloader on a p8lite will erase automatically all data on the phone ?
Thanks and Regards.
Unlocking bootloader wipes nothing, it just unlocks the bootloader
But it seems that for security reasons boot loader starts data wipe on unlock.
It never wiped anything on my phone when unlocked it but if you want to be sure that it will not wipe your data just flash TWRP directly after unlocking bootloader and before reboot

Any proper guide to relock the bootloader?

I am seeing many threads that phone getting hard bricked after relocking the bootloader.. so want a proper guide..
Anytime you want to relock the bootloader make sure you install the stock rom and stock recovery if you on twrp or other custom recovery you will have your phone bricked
I asked many people how they brick theirs phones, all except one brick it while relock the bootloder, only one brick it after flashing a custom rom .I also ask if they format data before and after flashing stock ozip, all of them do not do it, and then relock the bootloder. I think that if you format data before and after flashing stock ozip, there is a lower chance to brick the phone but I can not confirm it. I just want to note that format data is not the same as wipe data, format data will delete your internal storage .
I successfully relocked

If you install android 10 ozip then you can relock it because it installs the stock recovery not just the firmware
