Battery drain and new 3000mAH battery - Galaxy S III I9305 (4G LTE + 2GB RAM) Q&A, Help &

Hello,
I recently purchased a galaxy s3 lte with the extended 3000mah battery. I have found the battery drain to be unusually high. it is draining at around 3% an hour. I am on the sentinel ROM. I changed to the normal slim battery and it also seemed to be draining at a similar rate. I have sync off, LTE off, brightness down, For the day there is 66% battery left and it has been on the battery for almost 12 hours. the chief offender seems to be android OS which acounts for 46% of battery useage. the screen has bee in use for 46 minutes
Is this normal. Do i just need to run the battery down a few times? I have tried the stock and other roms such as rXtreme and it all seems to be roughly the same.
THanks
James

It could be the battery itself. It may need a few charges to optimise.
Did you reset your battery stats when you put in the new battery?

How good is your signal reception? If it is like mine I think it is normal with that battery usage. In my home it is constantly searching for 4G because the 4G signal is to weak where I live. 3G is not the best either. So I always turn off 4G when the signal is weak, and that helps a little. If 3G is very weak I turn that off too.
When I'm out driving the signal is varying all the time, and it is searching for the best signal. That is battery consuming.
EDIT: Also check if Google Now is on. It is a BIG battery drainer.

thanks for the advice.
yes i have reset my battery stats. it is only the 2nd? maybe 3rd charge cycle. So hopefully it will get better. I am out of reception for most of the day when I am at work, I assume this will impact quite alot aswell. I guess the real test is on the weekend when I will be in good reception all day.

[Q] Battery Life

Last friday purchased HTC Incredible S, since I'm kinda hardcore user of phones (previously had old crap Samsung Tocco Lite - was surfing on internet + listening music, without problem could survive 10-12hrs nonstop use), now when I tried same with Incredible S, it end up that after 2-3 hrs of surfing + some app using for awhile, I ended up at 30-35% from 100%. I did turned all syncs off, brightness to minimums, turned of almost everything and all tasks, so it was just like test for how long surviving it with no internet(wifi/mobile),any sync, any sound/vibration and low brightness - it survived 1 hour longer then before. Like srsly 400£ worth phone with battery what can't hold even 6 hrs?
P.S. first try with apps and such was record for 4 hrs, next test without any apps etc etc survied 5 hrs...
The battery gets better in time.

I see that you have Incredible too, how long your battery lasts when using atleast 2h of app/call/internet usage?
same here, I need to keep charging it. maybe upgrading the kernel and rom helps.

I'm seeing this aswell. The more i use my phone the better the battery gets.
my battery does last 1day 12-15hr. All sync on, mobile networks on, background sync on. Normal use, that is incredible.
well when i first got my IS, the battery life is ridiculously short, from 100% -> 20% in 2 hrs of intense use!
But the battery life is getting better at day 3 (around 5x full charge cycle), do the calibration thing, use till 1%, but make sure phone is not dead, and recharge to 100%, redo for like 5 times.
If battery life still sucks, i think you get a bad battery
My battery lasts 9 hours of intense use (Wifi,3G,Games,Surf net,Listen to music)
Hello
I have installed Battery Monitor Widget Pro to check battery consumption. You can see so which are the applications that drain more your battery, tipically the display.
My battery runs one full day, even one and half with Wifi and BT always ON and normal telephone usage but if I switch on 3G it decrease rapidly and sometimes cannot reach one full day.
So in my case the 3G connection drains a lot.
Stefano
I've had mine since late april and I get a whole day, at least, out of it. Yesterday, I actually went 24 hours without charging it and I still had 30% left. The only "syncs" that are on, are my gmail, weather and Whatsapp. I can definitely confirm it gets better with time!
has anyone ordered from Amazon.Co.Uk, I was wondering if they can refund for phone, so I can take instead HTC Sensation :/
Anyways, I got this phone like 3-4 days ago, now I'm trying to maximally drain it with apps/games to get that battery life up
sense drains your battery...
and also 3g drains it if you have a unstable connection
what i allways do is out of the box, drain it 100%
charge it 100%
drain it 100%
charge it 100% and your done...
might be a ghost story, but surely seems to work for me, however 12hours and mine is empty as fk, with gaming, bad 3g connection, wifi, gtalk etc.etc. aka daily usage..
but thats cuz im running cyanogenmod, which isnt 100% stable yet
Do people not read anything these days? You're complaining about battery life of a smart phone... None of them last longer than a day or two max. Not to mention it's a new toy and you can find yourself on it more often. Checking the battery constantly kills your battery. Tones of widgets kill your battery.

I do understand about 1-2 days of uptime for phone is ok, but mine doesn't survive even 6h +_+ , contacted HTC and they said that battery is fauly.
ANyways... I dont use widgets and actually turned of all sync and stuff like that to prevent battery drain, even in airplane mode, it drains from 40 to 5% (to complete dead) in about 1-2 hrs
I find battery life pretty poor. After charging to 100%, it can be down to 90% within half an hour - without really even using the phone. I can turn on the phone at 7am, and it will be down to between 50 and 40% by 11pm, never normally enough to get through the next day.
I'm going to try some overclocking to see if that helps.

Overclocking will drain even more battery, downgrade better speed of it and it should save battery
I've found that for the first few weeks of having the phone, the battery life will be crap... cause you're generally always messing around with it.
Lately I've been getting two work days out of a charge (6am to ~6pm the next day). I rooted the phone, uninstalled a bunch of bloatware, and set it to underclock when the screen is off (although I'm having issues with that one at the moment).
I'm thinking to buy other phone instead of this (amazon is accepting this for refund/replacement now), so I was thinking if it's worth take Sensation instead of Incredible S?

Should voice calls drain the battery significantly?

Subject says it all. I'm currently running Jk4 and was previously on what ever is stock with S7. One thing I've noticed with both modems is that 30 minutes of voice on the phone will drain my battery by 10% or more. I show that I have full bars most of the day and while on the phone. Is this normal our should I keep looking for modems?
Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA App
well i would say from my experience its ok enough, though your phone eats a bit more battery life than mine but still think its normal.....
That is correct battery life. Captivate has roughly 5-6 hours of call time battery life, which is the exact drain you are getting.
Thanks for the info. Just seems like a lot compared to how much the display uses.
Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA App
Well the 2 biggest drains on juice is the display and the modem. If your on the phone then its against the side of your head so the proximity sensor turns the screen off so you don't hang up with your cheek. So since the display is off during a call the modem is sucking it all.

Battery life on 2.3.5

Anybody notice any changes as far as battery life. I just wanna know because im currently using a 1800 mAh battery (lost original battery) from ebay and they don't longer then stock. If you see any major changes i might just buy an OEM battery.
I did notice an increase in battery life when I upgraded to 2.3.5. I am a heavy user of my phone on a daily basis and it last about 5-6 hours longer from my experience.
Switching to V20p showed a very noticeable increase in battery life for myself.
Sent from my LG-P925 using XDA
The battery life has improved so much, I'm not getting the extended battery. Maybe a couple of regular batteries as the improvement easily takes my phone all day. Before update, it would only last 4-5 hours with usage.
I have to agree battery life has increased by quite a bit. My wife was getting severely pissed off at this phone because of battery life and other Froyo glitches and since updating she has yet to have any issues and stopped complaining about battery drain. Ahh the relief of not having to hear about how she hates the phone and wants it replaced Now lol. Hopefully we get to see ICS eventually, not that I am counting on it anytime in the near future and most likely not at all but still it's a nice thought lol.
better definitely. Not as good as the Rogers Samsung Galaxy S Captivate battery life though. Can't believe how much that one improved with the gingerbread update.
Had anyone else been seeing strange issues on the Rogers gingerbread update Ruth the battery stats? This morning after an hour off the charger battery was at 88% when viewing the battery usage it showed 15s on battery and that the only thing using it was the display and the percent was 165% I have a screen cap to upload later to show it.

Same here. My P925 have same problem. The stock ROM and ThiaiZO3D, which I am using, are same. It always show me less than 20s even after 24h.

battery life

hey guys
in the last couple of weeks ive flashed about 5 roms which consider to be good.
i have to say I really like android but one issue keeps me frustrated
and thats battery life.
how can it be that my friends iphone battery lasts so much more then my galaxy s1?
ive gone through numeros guides decreased brightness to minimum
stopped syncing my gmail account and other stuff as well.
as time goes by im regreting not buying iphone when i had the chance
because battery is one of the most important things in a smartphone.
currently,
i am 25 years old student studying computer science in the university
which means im out most of the day.
its not that rare for me to be stuck without battery and its so frustrating.
i ask for your help please,
what is the best rom for s1 regarding battery life
and has hebrew on it?
(im from israel)
thanks alot mates!
Have you ever calibrated it after flashing?

i just want my battery to last hehe
It doesn't benefit at ALL

Dropping to 0% is the worst thing a LI-ION battery can experience.
There are some calibrations methods around, you can try some apps but I think you ROM just needs some time to calibrate the battery sign. Are you running a zillion of apps in the background?
Another option is to buy a new battery with more power. stock battery has 1500mah. but you can get a battery with 1800mah for your s1.
Did you wipe battery stats in cwm?
Disable mobile data or switch to 2G only it helps a lot. Phone will drain battery if you have a bad signal
I have to second the disable the data connection recommend. Also your battery life will get better the longer you use a rom and the more charge/discharge cycles your battery sees. To be clear that does not mean 100%-0% every time just regular charging.
I'm personally on GB and with data disconnected for most of the day and the 1800mah battery I have been on the same charge for almost a week and still have 30% left. It's truly amazing!!

Dropping below the minimum voltage is what you're talking about, and that's not possible because of the controller on each battery. That's why the phone dies when it hits 0% (or thereabouts) even though it still has plenty of power left over to run the device. Running a full cycle on the battery will be just fine.

[Q] Galaxy S I 9000 Battery Drain Issue

Hi,
I am recently facing a heavy battery drain issue with my Galaxy S. The battery drained fully even in stand-by, within 10-12 hours.
So, I now replaced with a new battery(the battery was already 2 years old).
But, with this new battery too, it gets only around 20 hours of light use(3G, Music, Video drains the battery a lot). Also, the battery never shows fully charged unless it charges for a full night. though it reaches 100% around 3 hours, but still drains within evening.
I got my motherboard replaced recently, facing a network issue and was using the old battery for the first 2 weeks before replacing it with new one(1650 mAH).
So, my question is, whether the problem is related to my battery or is it with my motherboard?
Can anybody help me in this??
Are you using a custom Rom
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium HD app
was using, now reverted back to stock rom... still d same, barely lasts half a day.. with nearly no usage....
Also, the Battery monitor widget says the capacity is 1500mAH, but this is a 1650 mAH battery, the voltage level seems to be ok

I know this is going to sound strange, but is there any specific app you are using when this happens, the reason I ask a friend uses facebook and it drains his battery from a high percent down to 0 and shuts off the phone in less than a minute.
