So to clarify, if I buy an AT&T HTC One and unlock it will T-mobile's 4g/LTE work?

4g (i.e. HSPA+) will only work if the 1900 MHz towers in your area were refarmed for that purpose. If you only have 1700 MHz towers, you will not get HSPA+. LTE will work though.
How is this possible? I thought they ran on different bands..
Are you not in a sprint LTE area?
When I roam only on Sprint and go to a sprint LTE area, my 1x will be Verizon, but data is LTE from sprint. Signal checker will show VZW 1X, sprint LTE
I just got an unlocked code for my samsung galaxy note 4 t-mobile and I'm wondering if I could use it on verizon network?
No
Voice frequency share the 1900mhz band, 3G share the 1900mhz band, 4G share the 1700/2100mhz band, and 4G LTE are compatible bands as per: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cellular_frequencies so I don't see why not? I have put Verizon 4G LTE devices onto T-Mobile's carrier before via APN settings so I don't see how its not backwards compatible?
did you try it?

I just got an unlocked Note 5 (SM-N920C) and I am getting great data speeds, but it does not seem to use the "LTE" icon in the notification bar when it is connected to LTE. It just stays on "4G". I realize that this is an issue with international variants being used in the US, but is there any way to have the icon switch to "LTE" when it is actually connected to LTE?
4G and LTE are same thing and there is no diffrences between them. 4G, short for fourth generation, is the fourth generation of mobile telecommunications technology and includes LTE and WiMax. So don't be sensitive about the icon.

Anyone who has a tweak to show LTE or 4G LTE instead of the plain 4G? I'm using a SM-N950F/DS.
TIA

Open up cscfeature.xml or others.xml & look for this line:
Code:
<CscFeature_SystemUI_ConfigOpBrandingForIndicatorIcon>LTE</CscFeature_SystemUI_ConfigOpBrandingForIndicatorIcon>
For 4G/LTE icon, change to "VWZ, ATT, or TMB". Save & reboot. Try each one & see which you like as these carriers each use different styles.
If you want it to be LTE & LTE+ (LTE+ is when CA is active) only when connected to LTE & H when connected to HSPA+, change the line above to "LTE".
To add, just tried SPR..... only shows a small LTE hovering over the signal bars. Most international CSCs just show 4G. (This line does not actually change your active CSC)
Most international devices show 4G , in the USA since they like big words as it looks better , they depict 4G LTE on the icon.
A bit like some of the old Mercedes models, the USA numbers were bigger but engine size and specs was the same as the international ones.

That's one way of looking at it but in the US I think it has more to do with marketing. There was a big race to push out "4G" in the US. Tmobile first started calling HSPA+ 4G in the race against Verizon's "4G" network.
Then when LTE came out which techincally could not be called 5G, US carriers started using 4G/LTE for LTE & 4G for HSPA/+ cause it looks better/faster.
I'm using Tmobile CSC on my N950F but I changed the Tmobile 4G/LTE icon to LTE. So now when I'm connected to LTE it shows "LTE, "LTE+" when CA is active, & "H" when connected to HSPA+. Tmobile does not show a different icon to indicate when CA is active.

Technically speaking isn't hspa+ 3G in other countries and LTE, 4G in other countries?
The marketing aspect makes sense due to the USA national networks , after all if Verizon was advertising super duper 4G LTE ( 4G) , T Mobile and others had to use the same LTE verbiage else customers would think 4G was less than 4G LTE. A bit like why some post on here with their international devices wanting the status bar to show LTE I guess LOL.

3g is UMTS, hspa+ is somrthint between 3g and 4g, 3.5.g.
