Will Jocala's Root Stock 2.3.6 delete my data/apps? - Samsung Galaxy Exhibit 4G

My girlfriend has asked me to root her phone, to add a tethering app and delete bloatware, but to leave everything otherwise stock. She doesn't want to mess up her work Exchange email account, which was set up, quite laboriously, at her office by an IT guy, and she doesn't know all the details about the account to enter if the Exchange account gets wiped out.
Will flashing Jocala's Root Stock 2.3.6 w/o new kernel or ROM delete any of her apps or data?
To flash the Jocala Root Stock 2.3.6, you don't have to do a full cache/dalvik/ROM/system wipe, do you? If I read correctly, I just install CWM on the internal SD and Jocala's Root Stock 2.3.6 on the internal SD, reboot to recovery, flash clockwork mod recovery, and use CWM to flash the Root Stock 2.3.6 file, right?
Although I've rooted my own phone and installed many custom ROMs, I'm a dummy and shouldn't have to ask such a basic question. Forgive me, and thanks for providing info on whether or not this will mess up her Exchange account email.

It shouldn't mess up anything.

No need to wipe cache/data/system/rom?

Nope. Just flash in CWM and reboot. Won't touch a thing. You will just have Superuser and other root apps installed.

You can wipe cache and dalvik without losing anything. I don't think you have to wipe though.
Make a backup in CWM first just in case.

[Q] Flashing new ICS roms

somewhere in the Note community i read about to dont do anything with the recovery when you are upgraded with the LPY .....Now i can see in the development forum that there is customs roms of the lpy rom??????
i want to flash the custom roms but i want to know if it safe and not to brick my loved NOte in the process
There is always a risk when doing any flashing on your phone.
If you want Rocket Rom v1 for example you can flash over LPY in cwm recovery and just wipe dalvik and cache. I did no problems.
They do advise to flash Abyss 4.2 or 3.9 redpill then flash the new rom from that kernel though. Depends how much risk you want to take. I also ran TeamMid 1.2 with no problems

I wonder, would it be safer if I copy the files from the ROM /system/app and /system/framework into the phone?

Nope as soon as you start copying frameworks, your phone will reboot and there after, soft reboots....
When you start from /system,You will have lots of FC's and when copying tw,again reboots.
I'm on LPY, pre-rooted oficial version. I got superuser instaled but it isn't working. I don't have CWM instaled too. My question is, can i wipe from STOCK recovery all data and then flash just oficial LPY, without root permisions via ODIN?

LPY is a non wipe rom, so it will upgrade and keep your existing apps etc
Now a new full wipe ICS roms has been released.LPF.
I will wait to see results for new rom. And how to wipe when it's too dangerous.

These are the correct instruction for your case, taken from the OP of the Rom.
DON'T flash FROM ANY SAMSUNG ICS OR ROMS BASED ON SAMSUNG KERNELS (my CM9, AOSP, etc)
Flash any stock GB rom with odin / or any GB kernel, and reboot into recovery once again before flashing this
Install Rom: http://d-h.st/sGz 171.14 MB
Install HYBRID Gapps: http://tjohansson.is-a-geek.com/file...0511-fixed.zip
Wipe caches, factory reset is a must if you're coming from another rom than CM9
Hope that helps mate!

You have to gain root once you have flashed a GB Rom via PC Odin.
Then you can proceed to flash Paranoid.
Have I lost full root????

You don't have full root, that is certain. The only way you're gonna regain it is by
going back to rooted GB, then back to ICS.

I have a nandroid backup of rocket rom v22 where I was fully rooted before. If I restore back into it, what's the best method of getting back to PA and still be fully rooted - I have mobile odin pro BTW if that's any use?

Do not do restores through a partially working Recovery, you might mess up your phone.
Do this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25285584&postcount=3
After you are done injecting the CWMR, go to Paranoid thread and follow the instructions.

s5570I Pop plus - Unroot and removing CWM

I rooted my phone and installed CWM.
However rooting and installing roms are not for me. So I want to go back to my warranty.
How can I unroot and remove CWM and go back to my warranty, I still have 21 months of warranty period and I dont want to burn it
I found how to unroot, installing unroot file and setuping it like rooting but how to remove CWM.
Thx a lot
Taha
if you have a stock rom then flash it with Odin
else for unrooting first remove superuser app then busybox and sqlite3 then su and you will be unrooted
for going to stock recovery you will need its img and have to flash with odin
weird thing I only had superuser. after putting unroot.zip into my sdcard.
I turn off my device and go to the recovery - tadaaa CWM is gone.
What can cause this?
How I install CWM? Put the cwm into sd card and installed it via recovery menu.
Thx a lot

I found this file in this forum and looks like it did the job. I check with root checker and it says I'm not rooted.
But I'm confused about CWM. How it deleted itself. It deleted itself before unrooting process.
I don't have the answer
I guess flashing a stock firmware gives you the stock recovery. So its obvious that you'll lose CWM.

Google Search it. Go to your phone's settings>about>baseband version. Then Google search the baseband version and look for a download or a guide. Afterwards download the file and flash it with Odin.

Nexus One wont boot past boot animation and needs rooting

So I've had a nexus one for a while now, and recently I decided to root it. I managed to unlock my bootloader and flash clock work recovery. I then made a stupid mistake of trying to flash a rom before rooting my phone or backing up my rom. When I power on my phone now it just freezes on the boot animation. The only thing I can do is access recovery. What is the easiest way to root my nexus one in this condition or is there anyway of flashing a rom, hence fixing it? Preferably from a Mac but I may be able to get access to windows or linux. Thanks in advance

Turn off your phone, pop your SD card in your comp and copy the su.zip into it. Pop it back into your phone, boot into recovery and flash it on. Voila, root access!
Then wipe cache, dalvik-cache and all those and reflash the ROM again. You should be good to go.
BTW. I hope you are flashing a ROM which needs a stock HBOOT. Coz for JB ROMs, custom HBOOT is needed. Cheers!

Thanks a lot for the help! Do you know of any JB or ICS roms that do not require a special HBOOT? And where is the download for the su.zip you mentioned? Thanks a lot
All newer ROMs have a larger system partition requirement, why not flash an older gingerbread ROM that doesn't require black rose until you get the hang of flashing.
You don't need to flash superuser or busy box or anything first, just wipe all in recovery, flash ROM (plus anything else needed like gapps) reboot

@demkantor is right. Basically you don't need su.zip coz most ROMs will have that flashed in already. I think the problem you were facing was because you did not wipe your cache/dalvik-cache and data before flashing on the ROM.

New here, a little help please? :)

Hello there!
I'm new in this section of XDA. And I'm a bit confused. There are many different threads how to root etc.
What order am I supposed to do things in?
In my previous section, the order was something like:
1. Root phone
2. Unlock bootloader
3. Flash kernel
4. Enter CWM and flash custom rom
Thanks in advance!

you shouldnt flash kernel before rom. because some kernels are not competitable with some roms. Roms comes with kernels anyway.
1. you should root your phone
2. install TWRP ( its used by most ROMs atm., its easier if you want to use CM or Omni or etc.) some apps in market helps to install TWRP and etc. ( Rashr if i remmember correct.)
3. Flash which ROM you want to ( but i suggest first make a nandroid backup in case things go wrong.) a.)go in recovery whipe data/system/dalvik/dalvik cache
b.) flash your rom from sd card.( zip file)
c.) flash gapps after you flash your rom.
d.) wipe dalvik and dalvik cache and reboot and youre good to go.
4. if you want to use different kernel which your ROM comes with. you can flash your kernel after your rom.
You can also flash your rom with odin. its easier and you can find how to flash with odin and when you flash with odin, you will also have recovery anyway and mostly ROMs comes with root after you flash. ( You should root your phone like go in recovery and flash supersu. if you going to use OmniRom as it not comes with root.)
hope it may help tho.

oh after you install TWRP, you can install latest supersu zip from xda, and you can flash it to your phone and then you will have root, or there are some programs for one click root for samsung s3 mini, but not sure, didnt try them. but people say they are working good.
and yea, you flash your kernel after you flash your ROM, you can check in kernel parts and see if they are working with your rom and then you can flash it.

yes when you are installing a new ROM follow that guide. its pretty well written and it is definitely correct, just before you do anything and wipe any data. go to back up and make a nandroid back up to be safe. then you can restore it if anything goes wrong.
About kernel, you will do the same like rom. when you install your new rom and gapps just reboot your phone after you check around a bit and then flash kernel zip like how you installed your rom. just do not wipe anything and here are some kernels people use in samsung s3 mini.
