You can get in recovery mode using ROM Manager (CWM) or abd from your computer.
thank you for your fast reply
i'm installing abd but ... i'm curious about one thing ?
Will I have the 3 buttons recovering mode like before after doing this new update.zip ?

Duno if the update.zip will do it but most ROM you flash will come with a kernel that has it.
I've personnaly tried many ROMs and they all had it so far.
thank you so much i've just flash the update.zip to root it ... dont see any difference with before... but ive just adb recovery rebooted well , and reinstalled packaging after putting,
so ill try step 3 and will give news soon thx so much .

Roms DO NOT have a 3 button fix. If you want it, and you should, there is an odin package in thee dev section to flash the 3 button fix. Otherwise flashing a rom will not do it.

Either way, Odin isn't something to mess around when you start flashing (IMO) - He won't need the 3 button fix (if it doesn't come with the ROM/kernel he's flashing) as he can use abd, ROM Manager and power button menu to get to recovery mode.

Also, I know some Dev recommend not using ROM Manager but it can be useful. Especially when starting, you can get rid of it after but it does make things easier at 1st

The 3 button fix is an emergency option, say you flash something and end up in a boot loop, adb, rom manager, or the power menu isn't gonna do you one but of good in that situation. Only option then would be to use odin to get back to stock. So odin before get the fix and recover from recoverable mistakes, or make a mistake like that without the fix and still have to use odin to get to stock and start all over...
I find my newly purchased tab 8.9 very laggy with the stock TouchWiz
Before returning it I wanted ti try the Overcome rom to see if it can get any smoother.
I carefully followed there instructions but I am unable to go past the downloading droid. once I validate with the right button volume, the tablet simply reboots.
Does anyone else have this issue?

I see. The Overcome thread also has the CWM Recovery as a .zip file which is flashable through Stock Recovery (same procedure as flashing Root). You just put the file in your internal SDcard and flash away. If you still have doubts, read a little bit here, as I'm sure that will clear any doubts you might have.

Don't expect perfection from a port, ever (port = a ROM that's not native to the device). The motley kernel, along with UV can help you in the battery department.

Sorry to comeback to it but after having flashed a couple or ROM with CWM I want to come back to the stock rom using ODIN and I cannot enter the dowload menu.
My system right now is a stock ROM us retail P7310UEKHA flashed with CWM and CWM and I want to install a 3.2 stock ROM using ODIN.
The way I try to access the download menu is
1. Turn off the tab
2. wait 30 sec
3. restart with the down volume pressed
4. when the reaching the menu between recovery and dowloading. Select dowloading with the down volume button and validate with the up volume button.
Result: a black screen for 3 seconds and then the tab reboots

Thanks lupu666ro. I've tried installing stock Rom with CMW but nothing works. I have found very sparse info about nvflash. It looks like the solution but I'm a bit wary about tring this without a instructions. Could give me more info or point me to a tutorial

So I have tried reflashing the stock US retail ROM and ran the EULA3 OTA update over it. I can't seem to figure this out.
The OTA update entered the download mode for a few seconds during the update so I am wondering if I don't simply have a locked bootloader.
I have made a video to show the problem: http://youtu.be/b09-x31ldbs

Ouch, so no download mode or recovery mode? Have you tried booting into download from ADB? if you don't know what adb is then don't worry about it. You might try seeing KIES recognizes it, if not, download any ODIN package and see if the ODIN recognizes it, if it does you're in luck! If not, then you might consider ADB: I'm no expert but I'm sure that when you have ADB there is a way to replace the Kernel Image for a proper one. Just out of curiosity, which kernel did you accidentally flash?
It has nothing to do with kernels, you have a GB ROM with Eclair/Froyo Bootloaders

The second problem is... it loops after the fuzzy screen. It only stays for 5-10 seconds then goes back to the ATT screen.
I do know what adb is and I've used it a lot especially with my girl's Mytouch 4g. It's just this was a big problem I haven't been able to crack.
I believe the kernel that was flashed was TalonDEV 0.5.1-RC1 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18330648&postcount=5215
Edit: Odin sees it for the 5-10 seconds it's on... but since it's bootlooping... Odin doesn't have time to do anything further than file analysis.
2nd Edit: The battery status comes up when I plug the phone up when it's off... I know that probably doesn't help, but I figure I should give all the information I can.

Its the KERNEL.
If you have froyo bootloaders and a gingerbread ROM, it will still boot into the ROM and work. But on boot, the KERNEL splash screen is that distorted image in the OP, and also recovery is inaccessible because all you get is the distorted image. And as you should know, recovery is contained in the kernel.
If you're on froyo, and flash a gingerbread kernel, not only will you have the issues stated above, but you'll also likely be bootlooping, which is exactly the situation in the op.
OP.. You don't use Odin booted into Android, or in a bootloop. Its used in DOWNLOAD MODE ONLY.
Search for "usb download mode jig" you can make one, our buy one fur under 10 bucks. It'll boot it into dl mode in seconds.
Then go to the top of the development section, find a gingerbread package WITH bootloaders. flash that, THEN proceed with your original plan
Yes or flash gingerbread boot loaders and get recovery back, Then flash and appropriate kernel in cwm.
Hint: there is a button combination that you must preform to enable download mode it is posted several thousand times in the captivate section I would suggest go and find what it is.
Btw. The button combination happens to be posted in three or four of the stickies. And the forum rules say to read stickies before creating a thread or posting.

I've read them already. I told you I can't get into either mode. I know exactly what the 3 button combination and the download combination is for this phone and since the wrong kernel was flashed on it, it's apparently not working.
Hint: being helpful is great, but when you start talking down to people, you start to become an ass. When that starts to happen, it's best you be quiet and let people who want to come up with a solution to the problem speak.
Thanks.

So, I was trying to update from a 4.1 rom to a 4.2 one. After a bit of fumbling and a few status 7's, I managed to get stuck with a broken operating system and a status 0 on every rom I tried to install. So I decided to flash to stock with Heimdall using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1238093. Now, when I tried rebooting my phone, I'm faced with a password prompt. As soon as it gets past the AT&T World phone splash screen. Regardless of what key combo I press.
So, any suggestions? I'm open to anything short of hitting it real hard with a hammer.

I get the feeling that the methods you are using to attempt to get into download mode simply aren't working. Depending on your device, what boot loaders you're running, and how annoying your device feels like being that day the methods vary. The most foolproof way is to buy or make a jig which will put you into download mode every time. But the most recent way I've done is do a battery pull. Providing you don't have power button issues that causes the phone to turn on on its own replace the battery. Then plug your USB cable into your computer and while holding down both volume buttons insert the USB cable into your phone. That should boot you immediately into download mode.

I can't seem to find any files still hosted with CWM on it, and the JB roms won't flash straight through the stock recovery console. I tried a kernel too, but verification keeps failing on them. I'm assuming its the stock recovery that's causing trouble, but I can't find any files still hosted to fix that with.

With TWRP installed, from power off, you volume-UP, Home, and Power to enter recovery, correct?? Unless I am mistaken?? Please tell me if so...
I prefer to flash with Odin myself (vs. flashing w/apps), but with TWRP installed, I believe you can use TWRP Mgr from Play Store to Boot to Recovery mode also as well as Flash ROMs and the like... Never tried the app, or any recovery app, just know of some that prefer using apps to do everything from device... If my help does not assist, you can always search out tutorial videos on the matter, or ask around the forum further... Just going by what I have either done or known to have been done so far... Hope it helps...

With TWRP installed, from power off, you volume-UP, Home, and Power to enter recovery, correct?? Unless I am mistaken?? Please tell me if so...

Thank you very very much Siggy... You are absolutely correct. I told you it was something that would make me look dumb. I looked everywhere for the answer to this question.

HaHa, not dumb, especially with all of the Flashing/Booting to THIS point using the same keys... Just overlooked I guess... Glad it was of help!! :good:
Guys I've tried with Odin and I get nothing. Odin passes install but It still goes in to stock recovery.
Can this be flashed with stock recovery if I change it to update.zip?
