Does your One "buzz" with haptic feedback? - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Compared to, say, my Nexus 4, my One has a distinct buzz/rattle that occurs when I touch something resulting in haptic feedback. Like typing on the keyboard, to take an obvious example. Im trying to figure out if this is normal or not so I can exchange, if necessary, before the option runs out.

No haptic feedback? Wow.

I was in Staples yesterday about to purchase a 16 gig model...the not having capacitive buttons and the lack of a camera on the back are issues for me...but issues I was going to try to overlook.
Then I start playing with the display model for a couple of minutes and came to learn that there is no haptic feedback while typing...or anywhere for that matter. This is a deal breaker for me. The only tablet I can recall ever using that didn't have keyboard vibration is the iPad. Every other Android tab I've used has it.
Quite a let down.
ya that does really suck, all the other asus pads have it
I'm a little disappointed by this but i'm getting used to it. It's a better typing experience than my ipad.
i'm surprised they took it out too, but you do get used to it after a while...

It seems your expections are not inline with reality. Clearly to meet the price at which the Nexus is sold at, some things had to go. Personally I don't use a tablet to take pictures when I'm out, so I don't give a crap about rear facing camera.
Google and Asus have done a solid job of identifying what can go, what they can skrimp on, and what they shouldn't skrimp on, and a s a result, the Nexus FEELS and PERFORMS like a premium tablet without a premium price...
If you want a tablet with all the premium bells and whistles, you will have to pay a premium price. That is the harsh reality.
I would have been shocked if there was haptic feedback.
200. 200. Seriously people. My phone retailed for 700 and the nexus 7 will probably kick its butt when it arrives.

The OG Asus Transformer didn't have haptic feedback. It's a nice luxury don't get me wrong, but no a nessesity IMO.

The iPad is $400 with no haptic feedback. Maybe Google thought we don't need it.
Didn't have haptic feedback on my OG Transformer, GTab 2 7", or this. Not shocked in the least, nor do I care. One less point of failure.
You won't find anything better near this price point.

That is exactly how I feel. My dad takes pictures with his TF201 and I make fun of him for holding up a tablet to take pictures when he has an excellent Canon camera..
The tablet also does not vibrate when a new message comes in, or a notification gets pushed.
Thats fine, as I normally turn that off to save on power... this isn't a problem with most games as any good vibration feedback can be regained through a Playstation SIXAXIS controller.
Just a few more weeks and these threads will stop.

I never thought about haptic feedback on a tablet, though I think the Iconia A100 had it. I always turned it off, along with the typing noises.
First thing I do when I get a new phone is find out how to turn "haptic feedback" aka annoying vibrating battery wasting rumble pack, OFF!
The fact that it doesnt have haptop feedback at all, is probably the best news for me I have read about this device today :victory:

Your sample size must be quite small then. A lot of tablets(including the high end ones like the ipad you mentioned) do not have haptic feedback. You expectations are pretty high for the type of device you were looking at. And besides, lack of softkeys is a design choice not a missing feature. Google has been pushing the buttonless android device for a long time.
I don't have one yet but was a surprise to me to know that it does not have a vibration motor, anyway I believe that the only use on which I could miss that is while playing games, don't you?
other than that I think is ok?
The back camera, well, I really think that was a mistake due to the size of this tablet, I can imagine 10' tablets without the rear camera but this one?
First thing I do with any device I buy is disable haptic feedback
Sent from my DROID RAZR using xda premium
I'm with a few others, first thing I do is disable typing sounds and haptic feedback.
I never understood the point of a rear facing camera on a tablet anyway. Way to cumbersome for practical use. I've only used the one on my A500 once or twice just playing around. A phone ok, but not a tablet. As far as the haptic feedback, I didn't know the Nexus didn't have it. Not that it matters. It's still an awesome device!! No regrets!

Clearly, you have no idea how onscreen buttons are a thousand times better looking, more durable, and happen to be a huge component of 4.X. However, given your trollish name and your idiotic demeanor, I believe that I have been had.

Took the plunge

Just thought I'd make my first post on my new N7, finally gone and bought one, got the 16gb version.
So far so good, quite like the tablet and think it's a pretty good nose for a tab not as brick like and heavy as others.
No screen flex or light bleeds I don't think, any other issues to watch out for?
Cheers peeps.

The only issue i've seen was some minor screen lift but aside from that its been a phenominal tablet. I also recently picked up the 16GB and have been very happy with it! Very smooth/fast.
My tab has been terrific. Haven't had any issues with it. I do get a horizontal line flash every once in a while. It hasn't increased in frequency and doesn't seem to have any lasting effects. Left hand side, the screen is squishy but only if I consciously press down on it near the edge.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
Check the speakers for crackling/distortion at louder volumes. Then check your headphone jack.
If you're still concerned about screen lift, here are my instructions for a simple visual test.

Just love mine! I had a transformer tab but it was just to bulky and slow. Once I played with my wife's nexus I had to have one!
Mine is all good so far
I am in love with a 7 incher called nexus 7.I own a transformer and literally have not touched it since my nexus 7.It is just a little power house, and let me just say, rooting it is a must. The otg cable is awesome.I hated 7 inch tabs before this tablet,I'm now selling the transformer and hate 10 inch tablets, best money I have ever spent.I sleep with it every night, lol.

so i just got my girl the s3 and.....

I can't understand why some people prefer it over the n4. Turning the thing on and setting it up for her was such a pain! So many pop us and crapware I was frustrated in 2 minutes. It reminded me why I love my nexus. Sure there are many many options but you have to stick your thumb up your ass and whistle a tune to access them. Its just not done well. Touch wiz is worse than ever.
Agreed. Honestly, I can't stand any of the OEM skins. They all just look so ugly to me.
she is part of the average consumer, they love all the features that are advertised. course if you what a nexus is like, you would never go back to OEMs, but gotta admit some of the extra features the oems do have are neat, and they have much better camera software imho.
One of the main reason people are getting the S3 is due to the unavailability of the N4. All my friends who has S3 said the same thing.

I agree with the OEM software.
Personally the display on the N4 is a huge disappointment. I keep comparing it to my Galaxy Nexus and even my wife's GSIII, it doesn't even compare. The size of the display is good but I have a problem with the crispness, the image looks washed out. I'm also really paranoid about the glass back on this device. The GNex I would just drop on the desk, this one I find myself setting it down gently and it's almost as if I holding a baby trying to be as careful as I can be.
Main thing I miss from my s3 is the lack of external SD. Still prefer the n4 overall though.
I do hope that split window is made for the n4 at some point though. Possibly the only worthwhile feature of crapwiz over AOSP.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Agreed. My lady is an average consumer and it won't bother her much. But if I find it hard to use a feature I know it means she won't even know its there or she will ignore it. A couple weeks ago I watched a Samsung rep show the note 2. Everything looked so complicated. Some of the things she showed us didn't work the first time requiring multiple tries and such.
I can only say I like the hardware of the gs3. It feels nice in the hand.
Yeah nexus over S3 except the camera the S3 camera is great and the nexus 4's is only just better than alright.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
You can't beat Samsung's quick toggles... Even the quick settings implemented in 4.2 do not compare. Then there's the slide right to call/left to text feature in the contacts... It's the little things. Samsung does some good stuff with Android.
Those first time around popups are for new users obviously.

You only go through those on screen tutorials once, after you get through them, it actually rocks. Unless you do a factory reset of course, then you have to dismiss all those windows again.
Lol, first of all doesnt take a genius to figure out how to set up a S3. Second, I think average customer would rather buy a nexus device so clean and neat and "easy" to set up.

Bye Bye Nexus 4 forum

I have learned quite a lot from this forum and may stop by sometime but I have traded my Nexus 4 for an unlocked Samsung Galaxy Note II and I am loving it. Once I have had it for a while I drop by and let people how it compares to the Nexus 4 for me.
Farewell! I actually did the opposite. Sold my Note for a Nexus 4. I actually dropped the phone on several occasions due to it's size and that's what made me sell it. I hope you have better luck with it, because I did love the phone at the time.

Sold my note 2 after 2 months use because the difference in fluidity is very apparent to me (nexus win), couldn't have a fully functioning AOSPA rom (Samsung sources not always available), and some of my favorite devs support the nexus (Moles, Morfic, Faux123, Franco). Do miss the battery life, spen, and gorgeous screen on the note 2 though. Both phones are great.

You better be rocking your nexus 4 naked to be making that sort of statement. Most people when they buy a samsung, apple or google phone always have a case on it so whether it's glass or plastic don't matter. And when you break that back glass, good luck replacing it.

I switched not so much because of something I did not like because I didn't know what was better or worse than the Nexus 4 vs the Note 2. I wanted the pen, sd card, otg and the larger screen. I now find I like the larger size as I have rather large hands. So with the Note 2 I don't keep accidentally pushing the buttons on the side of the phone. I also happen to like Touch Wiz as I have it on my GNote 10.1 and I am not really that concerned with quick updates or having the latest versions. I would have gotten a Note 2 in the first place If I could have afforded it unlocked. Which I could not but I could afford the Nexus 4. Now I found someone that bought a T-mobile Note 2 on contract because they could not afford a Nexus 4. They kept their contract and switched it to the Nexus 4. They requested the Note 2 be unlocked. So I got an unlocked Note 2 without a contract. Making it was a win win situation for us.
As I use the Note 2 I find that the calls made using Talkatone over WiFi are much better quality without having to make any adjustments other than to increase the speaker settings in Talkatone when speaking to my wife as she speaks very softly. The Note 2 does not have the mic gain problem that the Nexus 4 has.
I find the screen of the Note 2 to be quite a bit cooler in color than the Nexus 4. I am still not sure which I think is better color wise. Sharpness of text and images is so great on both as I can not see any thing but smooth curves no matter how hard I look. I can not see any dots on either screen so dpi and resolution are fine for me on both.
I don't like for the physical button on the Note 2. I would rather have the center button be the same as the menu and back buttons. Also I think it looks cheap. I love how the back and menu buttons are not on the screen and do not show but light when touched. I find the arrangement of the buttons on the Note 2 better for me. On the Nexus 4 the back button always seemed to be on the wrong side. Of course the real estate of the screen is awesome the thinner frame around the screen makes the phone look even bigger than it is.
I don't like the fact the Note 2 uses S-Beam instead of Android Beam as they don't work together as far as I can tell. My wife has an Xperia Acro S using Android beam and we were able to beam some pictures sometimes between it and the Nexus 4 via NFC and Android Beam but we can't beam pictures using S-Beam and Android Beam between the Xperia Acro S and the Note 2. We were able to beam a Youtube but really that just beamed the link and opened up the Youtube player.

Negatives on Nexus 4

Seems like every time a new nexus seems like in the first three months you can't say anything negative about the phone. It must be better than everything else or bust. Its like the phone you own defines you as a person. Seems like if you think something is bad about a nexus something is wrong with you and a lot you guys attack people who are actually in touch with reality.
Apple does not give a hot damn about a nexus and it laughable to think the number 1 phone maker on the planet is worried about us. The fact that some think they have a hidden smear campaign is just nuts.
The nexus 4 is an awesome phone but it has some flaws like everything else. You can lie to yourself to make your purchase feel better but facts are facts. Here are some of the negatives so people thinking of buying this phone can now what is true and to expect.
1. This phone is very fragile ( more than any other phone I owned ). Its glass front and back so expect to own a case and screen protectors. If this phone is gorilla glass its the crappiest I have ever seen or the weakest. All these guys saying they drop there phones and not even a mark, come on. Common sense you can look at this phone and tell any hard floor and a drop over 1 foot something is getting marked or cracked.
2. After you crack the front the screen stops working and the phone is pretty much junk might as well buy a new one. This is not an iPhone so replacement parts will be hard to find and cost will be high. I can crack an iPhone and for 30-40 bucks fix it myself. Good luck on this its the same as the nexus 7. Once cracked it is pretty much worthless.
3. Phone does get pretty warm if the screen is on for about 20 min even on auto brightness. I know its a thin phone but even with a case its hot in the back.
4. Screen colors are washed and LCD is not great. Not saying its bad but its not winning any awards. Put this next almost any other top phone and you will see why people say its washed. Yes you can adjust but you have to root and flash custom and a custom kernel for best results. Then its a little better but it will always be an LCD can't change that. Viewing angles no good and blacks are not deep blacks.
5. Battery life is just ok, some may even say bad. I am on custom ROMs so its a little better but around 4 hours on screen time on average.
There are a few other minor things but for the most part these are the flaws. I still suggest this phone because its cheap, its unlocked, super fast, stock android, and its sleek and sexy. I am not a troll spent over 2 grand ordering nexus 4's, probably donated hundreds of dollars to devs.
Post what you think the negatives are of this phone.

And your stock right? I mean depending what you customize you can get 5 hours but a screen shot would help of proof. And the LCD I'm not saying is bad just not amazing. Its sharp but when I look at an amoled I start missing it again.
Yeah I didn't want to name the minor stuff, lots of people don't even know what USB otg is, could said lack of storage, yellow tint, no LTE, etc.
Main flaw is the whole scratch easy and breaks easy and don't break the front glass or it stops working. Has anyone found out why the nexus 7 and 4 have this problem. I am guessing its somewhere along the line of this how they got the cost down so much. After breaking a nexus 7 on carpet I kinda want Google to make the devices better builds or release some cheap parts to fix them.

Not too sure about the N7, but the N4 uses zero gap technology. I don't really remember the details but it's something along the lines of removing a layer from between the screen and digitizer so they can have a screen without a bezel.

when I got my nexus 4, I couldnt wait for it to come and try it out. i was coming from an htc one x. and no way in the world does the nexus 4 screen come close to the htc one x's. and my nexus 4 started having random shutoffs, heated up, battery was draining faster than i could charge. and the camera sucks on this phone. I got myself a note 2 its a solid device and I do miss the pure google experience, but tbh LG effed it up.
My biggest complaints:
-battery life is atrocious compared to my previous devices
-volume rocker gets hit a lot when pushing wake button one-handed
-google support, I feel like I was somewhat suckered into purchasing by having a Qi charging orb, miracast accessories, and the bumper dangled in front of me only to have them nonexistent, sold out and/or just plain silent when it comes to answers regarding future availability
-the flash on the camera needs to be toned down
-audio is pretty muffled when using speakerphone and phone is laying on it's back, thanks to speaker location
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
I also have to disagree with the last three points
My phone only gets warm with intense CPU stuff (which is expected...)
I love the colors, and I can easily manipulate them to give richer, deeper colors through kernels and what not of I grow unhappy later
Battery for me is really good... 4+ screen in 18+ hours... On 3G with WiFi its 6+ in 20+

I am not going to discuss the other points but, you are right, the phone is very fragile. Mine suffer a falling from about one meter which cracks the screen. In any case, the replacement by an official client service costs near 150€, transport included, so the complain about the components cost its not fair.

@Fataldesaign what's the matter with you??
You've started at least 8 anti-nexus 4 thread in this forum, most of them which for locked. All of your thread are something negative.
I remember you ate the same guy from that thread where you started calling everyone your hater and all ... There's no need to start so many thread on the flaws of Nexus 4. One or two is OK.
Thread reported. Kindly do not make useless threads now.
I don't understand why people come in some phone's forum, and make a thread "faults of this phone". I mean, if you don't like this phone, at least don't turn those who spent money in getting the device against it? It may have its flaws, but we are OK with them. We don't need reminders about the bad things. I mean, constructive criticism is GOOD. But not pointless pointing out of flaws...
If you have complaints, kindly submit an error report to Google.
Hope you get my point.
