I am seriously looking at the HTC one as my next device.
First a little history - I currently run a HTC Vivid which sadly was a great phone with little support. Fortunately for me, I have been running WCX illuminati roms for the past 2 years, so that was as good as it ever got for this device.
Now, I am on AT&T, however my employer pays my monthly bill which is a huge blessing, however I have to fully fund my phones at full price, with no allowable discounts, as our wireless devices are managed by a company called tangoe, so going into an AT&T store is a no go, unless I pay full price.
All that considered, I have 3 options, pay full price in an AT&T store, the HTC developers edition, or the google play edition. All 3 are very close in price, but which is my best option, considering I know I will be running custom roms for the most part.
I do like sense, at least from my experience with WCX roms in the past. However open to running vanilla android if no go tweaked roms are out there. Suggestions?
One more detail,
I really like the thought of a bigger screen, as tiny text is difficult to read, I see there is possible an HTC ONE MAX coming to the US this fall, wondering if I should hold out for that one?

I would go with the HTC developer or AT&T and get the 64Gb model (and then install a custom ROM or at least superuser to get rid of AT&T bloat).
If you don't need that much storage, go for the GE.
I've not heard that the MAX is going to be released in the US.
32 gb is way too much storage for me. I'd recommend One to everyone! I thought I'd hate blinkfeed, but it's pretty neat. Boomsound is a huge plus. The screen is the best, period. Support will be plenty thanks to xda. Camera is just what I'd imagine, and even a bit better in dark situations. The front camera is very good and it's wide lens a huge plus.
Things to know. Check the camera. If the picture is anything but black, it might be broken or need an update.
Check for gaps near the speakers. Some are better than others.
My phone (black One) had some black paint spill on the edge near the volume rocker. Impossible to remove. So there's obviously some problems with manufacturing. I'm happy with this any way.
Edit: I don't have solid evidence to back this up, just some testing of my own. The Samsung GS4 seems to have a better antenna than my phone. Tired a couple of different radio firmwares and it was always worse.
T9'd from my black HTC One M7
Do you need 64GB or is 32 enough? Because that can affect what options are available to you. Aside from that, all three are basically the same hardware-wise. The AT&T and HTC Dev editions will have the same HBOOT bootloader and same Sense ROM, except the AT&T one comes with AT&T bloatware apps installed and skinned network icons in the status bar. The Google Edition will come with a different bootloader, recovery, and (obviously) OS.
After you unlock your bootloader and install a custom recovery, however, you can easily** switch back and fourth between all of these different configurations, given that the underlying hardware is the same (the only exception would be if you were using a Verizon or other non-AT&T model).
** Note that switching the bootloader/radio/recovery itself can be a bit more tricky as it requires S-OFF and you probably shouldn't be doing that very frequently. Switching ROMs itself, however, is no problem. The only reason you would really need to switch out something like your bootloader is if you want to receive OTA (over the air) updates. I.e. if you want OTA updates for the GE (Google Edition) you will need to be running the GE recovery and bootloader and all that and if you want Sense OTA updates from HTC then you need to be running HBOOT, etc.
Hey guys,
About a month ago I sold my HTC ONE and went to a Moto X. I love the X and have literally no complaints about it, it's a wonderful device. However, there is just something in the back of my mind that keeps me thinking about coming back to the ONE.
Anyone else left for different device only to come back to the ONE?
Thanks
You sold the One for another phone? I can't imagine doing that. The HTC One is still the overall best phone in the world right now. Specs don't mean everything.
But i'm planning on getting a Snapdragon 800-powered device soon, but only due to being a tech geek and i want to see what's all the fuss with the new SoC and Adreno 330 - i've been seriously thinking about the LG G2. However, my One is going absolutely nowhere!! My go-to daily driver will assuredly stay the One. Even with its "older" (relative to the 800) Snapdragon 600 CPU, the One remains unique. Some aspects of that phone just can't be beat by other devices. Just grab that cold metal unibody and you'll never feel the same way about any other smartphone ever again (except maybe the iPhone which is also aluminium, but that would require you to change software ecosystem completely). BoomSound and the best screen on any mobile device (color calibration, viewing angles, highest PPI) are several other unbeatable features of the One. The Sense 5 UI is also the best custom UI out there. Good luck getting the One back. It might be an opportunity for you to get the newer red or blue variants.
I sent my iPhone 5 because I dod not like the strict iOS OS.
This packs the power more than enough for me, not looking for an upgrade - maybe when the device will have new battery technology.
Just wanted to get an idea of numbers. The black is obviously more popular. I myself wanted a 16gb black but it was "sold out" so I bought a 32gb white which was next earliest shipped by 11/5. I was curious what people use to fill that much space anyway? Everything nowadays is streamable, not to mention cloud drives. I only stream music from soundcloud, take a few pictures here and there, and never really used more than 3-4 gb on my 32gb HTC One.

Seems like everyone bought a 32GB. I bought a black 16gb myself though. I don't keep any music/videos on my device so I'll be fine with16gb.
I've ordered both, waiting to cancel on one, but I really have no idea. I wish I could see them in person or at least a good hands-on video like the one from The Verge, but I think it's currently in the making. Don't think any retail stores are holding them yet either, and I really want to make sure I cancel before one of them ships out.
32GB black. Didn't like the back only white. If it was all white I probably would've went for it.
32 GB White, Take to many photos, plus just to cache my music from Play Music.

32GB Black
I didn't order white just because I wasn't certain what the material would be like. I wanted the rubber feel that I knew the black had. white looks difficult to keep clean.
I got a White 32GB.
16 black
16GB Black. I'm a Chromebook user too so I tend to keep everything in the cloud; I never need that much space, especially with a Nexus device that I won't be flashing ROMs with.
32gb white for the miss' and black for me
first and only 16 GB white so far wanted something different this time [email protected] and couldnt imagine what to fill up 32 GB with on a phone anyways, gonna use those spare 50 bucks for a new digicam
edit: uuuuh, theres two of us now, me likes ^^
32GB black
16GB is too small for me as I have found out with my Nexus 4. I prefer the uniform black version to the two-tone white.
32 white! Glad to be on this new forum!

not feeling the 2face half-half look, if it was all white I'd go for white.

Anyone upgrading from an s8 have any opinions on the s8's colors?

I'm going with Black because I will be getting the Otterbox Defender case in black anyway. I had the Gold s7 edge and I liked it, but I like black more.

Black is boring.
Orchid gray is purple and too girly
I have a maple gold S8 plus and its okay..prefer the gold on the note 7 and s7s
Havent seen the deep blue one yet but i doubt ill like it either.
Was looking fwd to getting a silver one but looks like they wont have that....i may pass on the note 8 then.
sent from my Note FE, S8 plus, S7 edge or S6
I will be going TARDIS blue I mean Deep Sea Blue.
I'm going cheapest I find, they all look the same in a case.

I Would have preferred a silver titanium, but I think I will opt for the black one this time
I think I'm getting black this time. It matches the camera bezel so for the few and far between times it won't be in the case I think that will look better

Also like the blue, but not sure yet....
I want the blue bt I'm here in the US. Mad mad mad lol. Can we get the unlocked blue one and it work here on Verizon or is that a total no go!? I know people here know that answer lol
Sure you can get the blue international unlocked version but it would only work on GSM providers like T-Mobile or AT&T. No CDMA so won't work on Verizon.

I read the orchid is more on the blue side than purple? I have the orchid s8 plus and I like it. So I opted for the same on the note 8.

Same colour options options here in Southern Europe. I have also opted for the black. My SGS8+ is also black so I wanted a change but the maple gold is rather 'bling bling' on a mobile that size plus the camera set up is all black and not in matching gold as previous iterations have been.
My choice would be a deep burgundy but................:crying:
Black it is. No matter as its going in a case for protection then in a shocksock attached to my trousers so I can't drop it nor get pick pocketed.
Lot of money.............serious cash!

I am right there with you...im so PISSED about the color options here. Canada is even getting BLUE. like WTF. so far I only seen the unlocked option in black. I really don't want black and the orchid grey I'm not to sure about. I heard its really different looking then the s8 orchid grey so I might have to see in person. I was also thinking since the back is really the biggest difference, buying a blue back and having it put on. just not sure how I would keep the ip68 (if I can get the special adhesive). if I knew they would eventually release it in blue in the US, I would wait it out. I wish I could kick Samsung in the balls right now.

How will will it work on the GSM's? I have t mobile and my consider this but now sure how exactly well it will work(drop calls, LTE, etc). I never used an international phone in the US before. I know people do it but not sure of the pros and cons. also any place to buy it other then ebay? I don't see the international ones on samsungs website. I would hate to get screwed into getting a clone note 8 or something.

It will work like any other handset. The Note 8 international version (SM-N950F) will support T-Mobile LTE bands 2,4 and 12 so 4G will work just fine. The only potential downside is that it won't support the higher frequency band 66 which T-Mobile is currently rolling out in large cities to deal with network congestion. Another con is VoLTE and WiFi calling may not work without flashing ROMs or rooting but that's the case for many non carrier handsets. A big upside besides color selection is that the Exynos chipsets in the international Samsung handsets have historically had much better battery life than the Snapdragons in the U.S versions.
And you can definitely get them on Amazon instead of eBay. Just search by model number. For example for the S8+ international version search G955f on Amazon.
Also a big con is your warranty won't be valid in the US. I've never had to use my warranty but it's something to consider

i know from the past that they have a few different unlocked variants. all the ones ending in f will work with LTE.
i just wish i could buy it from Samsung and get the 425 discount since i checked my eligibility today.
Black one for me. Don't like the way the camera stands out like sore thumb on other colors besides black.
Midnight Black for me this time.
I went with the Coral Blue Note7 last time it looked unusual.
Plus we are all going to be using cases, so does the colour really matter nowadays?
What I really want is a transparent phone, like the gameboys back in the day.
CMON SAMSUNG I HAVENT EVEN RECEIVED MY 512 GB VERSION YET. Looks like I will have to find a way to get my hands on a silver one

Only just got mine today. Finally

Agreed that the color doesn't really matter as the phone is virtually impossible to use without a case. That said, I bet a silver S-Pen would look great with an Ocean Blue Note 9. If you want an OEM silver look, Samsung's Rugged Protective Cover in Silver or dark metallic gray looks great.
Only color I miss is white., Failing that black always wins.

Im also still waiting on my 512GB unlocked blue from Samsung Direct. Problem with this silver version is we don't know if there will be a 512GB version or if it will be a carrier exclusive..
If they launched this color August 24th, IT would be backordered and not my beautiful blue model that I've yet to receive...
Still waiting on my 512gb also week of Sept 30, ship date ordered Aug 15,ridiculous Samsung what the use of a preorder(lol) get the phone over a month after release, awsome
Damnit, Samsung! Why can't you bring out all of the color options at launch!?

Very good question........
This is one area Samsung would do well to mimic their main competitor, seems to have served 'em well & will no doubt sell a boatload or two of their latest offerings.
Samsung sales have gradually slipped the past 3 years, the trickle release of color variants, scattered availability of such dependent upon region,is nonsensical & is helping no one..
I'm diggin' my Note 9,but,offering all color options at launch,TO ALL MARKETS, would be a nice start in what will likely be a refresh for next year's models.........

I like my Note 9 Blue as well, but I would have preferred silver or an emerald green. I think it was the S6 or S7 that got a green over in Korea, but that was it. Irked me off a lot.
