[Q] Coming from Note - question on battery and screen readability outdoor - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have the Samsung Galaxy Note and planning to get the Xperia Z. Based on how I use my phone, I javelin some questions:
1. Battery through the day
I don't play games on my phone, but use it quite extensively for work. I.e. Exchange push, 3 Gmails accounts, documents review etc. I HAVE to carry a 2nd battery in my wallot since the battery went to 10% by 6PM (unplugged from chatter at 7:00 am).
Since Xperia Z does NOT have user replaceable battery, will the Z can accommodate the above based on my usage? Otherwise, what's the best solution given the battery is not replaceable?
2. Screen readability outdoor
The Note AMOLED is not really readable under the sun. How it is with the Z?
3. Anything else I should be aware? The Note is LAGGY (tried all kind of ROMS), but I attribute this to ICS.

1. With the type of usage that you have presented above you should get significantly better results with Xperia Z. The screen on time is about 3hrs with data on (some users reported up to 5hrs) but if you consider that it can last for 12hrs with screen off and eat just 1% of battery it should last you through the day and more.
2. Because Xperia Z uses an LCD IPS panel you will see a significant improvement in that area as well. The outdoor visibility is very good imo and others have reported similar results.
3. I think Xperia Z is a safe bet when it comes to performance. You might wanna change the launcher as the one provided by Sony is not the greatest.

Thanks for the info!
I use Nova so will definitely replace the home screen!

1. I get 4 hours of screen on time with gaming(20 mins) and wifi(for whatsapp and surfing).
EDIT:I also have auto-sync on with 2 e-mails and dropbox.
2. The Xperia Z has an LCD panel and these are much brighter than the AMOLED panels that Samsung uses. I can confirm that the auto-brightness does a great job for outdoor visibility.
3. Stock launcher is laggy. Apart from that, just check the general forum over here for all the issues found with the Z(such as camera taking 4-5 seconds to start up etc)

Hard to say exactly to gauge you actual usage. But most people coming from the note have said the battery life is good on the Sony, and they have been happy with the screen.
I use my phone to sync 3 email accounts, facebook, meetup, whatsapp, sync time, and two weather apps on the most regular intervals. Play games, listen to music for about two hours a day, and read articles on flipboard about 1 hour a day, take phone calls answer emails and txt messages and battery is at about 53% by the time I go to bed, but in saying this a word of warning battery life was bad when I first got the phone, but after about three weeks it has been great.
I personally find that the screen is very good outside, better and easier to read than my laptop outside.
Phone doesn't use ICS, phone does not lag, but has the odd launcher micro lags, which are most due to the Linux 3.4 kernel used for phones, not the phone.

I don't have this problem, because I use a different camera app , plus the cyber-shot mod significantly speeds up the startup of that camera app.

[Q] Sony Xperia Z battery Question

So i am an owner of sony xperia z black model for two months.Yesterday i decided to preform factory reset becouse i literarly filled my phone with all kinds of apps and stuff and some junk well bcs i wanted to try out all the things u can do with this great device
Since i never owned an android device before ( yeah thaths right! '-' ). So after i made reset ive been adjusting my device settings personalization
Updating apps and downloaded few of them like archiver custom browser flashlight etc and decided to give juice defender a try since i was often
Struggling with battery before and soon my overnight charged battery was draining when i was done with all this stuff above i charged it on like
96% than ive done some browsing media and stuff and left my phone with like 60% of battery before i went to bed it was at 50% and when i wanted to check my email it started with some extreme drain it drained from 50-15% in 2 minutes in front of me than i immedeatly uninstalled juice
Defender and it stopped with such drain so i puted it on overnight charging
And it is stable today but now i wonder and i will point out some numbers and wonder is it normal for battery to drain 27-30% in lets say hour and half of browsing over wifi with good signal since i am not android expert i would like to hear other xperia z owners
About their daily use of battery and some numbers thanks in foward and sorry for a bit bad grammar.
( my brightness is always on low except when i use it outside
it's auto after use i put it low again, most of notifications are off
Like gmail facebook twitter so i basicly don't recieve any notifications i prefer checking these manually, stamina always on, vibration off, sync off, google location track off, data always off i browse with wifi, mcafee security uninstalled, chrome and maps disabled basicly all things optimized for battery that i could do without rooting and custom roms couse i am not going into all that at least not yet like i said not an android experienced person)
Usually with constant browsing and using facebook my battery is half gone from
11am-2.30pm lets say 3 and half hours.Since i am medium to heavy user.Sometimes even light depends on the day but mostly med-heavy.
Looking foward to helpful answers and opinions .Also would like to know how many on screen hours u people get
In constant use thanks.

6 day battery on Xperia X compact

I get 6 days out of my Xperia X. 6 full 24 hours days. I use a few calls and texts each day, and a bit of internet. I dont use streaming, camera, games or videos in general, and I do notice when Im using music player it goes down fairly quickly, at a guess about 10% per hour.
But even when Ive finished and if Ive got only about 20% left, that will still do me for 2 days, so it not a problem if music drains it. Other phones would be dead within an hour or 2 with 20% left
If I use an app with bright screen on, such as notepad for hours, that will drain it quick. I was surprised as I thought notepad wouldnt use much processing power, but I suppose its the bright screen that takes it. I was using if for about 4-5 hours and it drained about 70% of it
I was totally surprised as I expected it to be 2 days max for normal usage. I used to have a Nokia N8 which would last 5-6 days, and I kept putting off upgrading as I thought no modern smartphone would do anywhere near as well as that, but 6 days is no problem with the Xperia X.
I do have battery saving on, but just the standard one, not the super one, and it doesnt change performance really. There is rarely a tiny bit of drag when swiping screens across, like the animation isnt smooth, but very rarely, I cant notice it in normal use.
Its the Xperia X compact if thats any use, I also notice the shape of my phone seems a bit different to the ones in articles on the internet, the corners are more sharp, the ones in the pics seems quite rounded. Maybe its just my eyes or the way the pic seems?
Does anyone else have this kind of performance with their Xperia X?

OnePlus 6T Detailed User Review Thread

As the title states, this is a thread for OnePlus 6T users to provide their detailed user experience for others. Everyone's experience with the device and their use case is different, so I would love to see others' experiences with the device.
Previous devices: OG Pixel, Nexus 6P, Nexus 5, HTC M7, Galaxy S2, Moto G
Device model: McLaren Edition (10GB RAM, 256 GB Storage)
Time w/Device: 2 weeks
Rooted?: Stock, unrooted
Carrier: Mint Mobile (MVNO on T-Mobile network)
Setup description
Stock OP launcher, 3 email accounts (2 on push notification), wifi/BT/location/NFC all on at all times, 60% brightness
Typical usage
*I take advantage of the Warp charge function to top off the battery and go to bed at 100% battery
*Day starts around 6am and wake up to about 98% battery, may listen to music or have YT playing while getting ready for work and get in my car for work by generally 6:45am
*Stream music/podcast on the commute, which is typically about 30 minutes
*At work, mostly on wifi. Will check twitter and other news feeds throughout the day, listen to music/podcast through wireless earbuds (Jabra 65T) for a few hours, maybe a few minutes of YT and phone calls, intermittently respond to texts and emails
*Will leave work around 6:30 to 7pm and will listen to music/podcasts during the commute which is another 30 minutes
*Arrive home and will mostly use the phone to stream YT, take pictures/videos of my son, read articles/books up until an hour or so before bed - this will take the battery down to ~40% ish most days
*No gaming for me
*Put the phone on charger while I finish some errands around the home and getting ready for bed
*On weekends, usage varies with family activities so it would be a bit heavier usage with more photos and video recording, GPS, along with more media consumption than normal
General thoughts
*Headphone jack - I thought the headphone jack would be a bigger issue than it is. I really have not missed it at all, but I'm also not an audiophile nor have I spent much on expensive headphones over the years.
*LED notification - It's something that I do miss. Without having the color coded LED, I find myself unlocking the phone more often to make sure I'm not missing any urgent notifications - I may try out some of the alternatives suggested in XDA
*Camera - It's good enough, but nothing spectacular. Photos are great in good lighting and the video quality is miles better than my OG Pixel. I do notice a bit more of a shutter lag than expected (any options to minimize this?) which has been annoying especially with a toddler running around to ensure each picture taking is a challenge. Front facing camera is also generally ok, nothing special.
*In-screen finger print sensor - The in-screen fingerprint sensor is pretty dang cool and it'll turn some heads... but as it states in most reviews, it's definitely a hair slower and less reliable than the standard FS in most of the flagships phones today. By no means it's unusable, far from it, but you will absolutely have an adjustment period with the phone unlocking experience in the first few days. I did notice it got a bit more reliable in the past few days but still will be unresponsive a couple times per day
*Performance - I'm sure most people know this already, but this thing is amazing in terms of speed and performance. Nothing I can add that hasn't been said already except that I have not ran into any stutter issues during my usage and this phone runs REALLY COOL compared to any of my previous phones.
*Display - Very crisp and great viewing angles and vibrant colors. It makes my OG Pixel display look washed out and flat in comparison. Coming from a phone with large bezels, it's very cool to have such big screen real estate available to the user for media consumption and during app usage
*Battery - Based on my use case noted above, I typically will be on pace for about 30+ hours of usage with 6-8 hours of SoT. This is the first phone I have ever had where I can use the phone without having battery anxiety in the afternoon (Few screenshots of the battery performance attached).
*Software - I like Oxygen OS way more than the stock Android experience which has been a pleasant surprise. I have not had the urge to get Nova launcher or install different ROMs because of the features and customization available from the stock experience. Both the quick and navigation gestures are very cool and functional, my favorite being the ">" and "<" gestures to skip tracks.
*Other things - I mentioned Warp charging above, but it's incredibly fast... The battery is already so good to begin with that it won't take long to get it back to 100% from where it would be at the end of my work day and IMO it more than makes up for not having wireless charging. This version of the 6T is absolutely gorgeous... but man it feels fragile with the glass exterior... I put a clear case around it almost immediately. The physical slider (toggle vibrate, silent, ring) is something that I didn't know I would find so useful. I have average sized hands, and the phone is definitely a bit on the large side if you are looking for a device that is one hand friendly.
Conclusion
Being the most recent phone that I have purchased, it's not surprising that the OP 6T is the best phone I have ever owned. Performance, battery life and overall experience in using the device is just miles better than my OG Pixel (which I was pretty happy with). If you have a 2+ year old device and don't want to shell out a $1,000+, you should consider this phone. The value prop on this phone is off the charts compared to many of the more expensive flagships. There are some things that can be better (camera, wireless charging, LED notification), but the overall user experience on the 6T is incredible and it's one of my most satisfying purchase of the past few years.

2 days absolute max battery life with 'normal' use?

Morning all.
Something that has been slightly bothering me since I got this phone....it has a massive battery, it can be heavily customised with roms, xposed modules, magisk modules and all manner of tweaks. Probably one of the most open and dev-friendly devices I've ever had.
Yet, no matter what I do the only way I have ever been able to get more than 2 days out of a battery is to literally not use the phone.
I have had devices in the past such as Xperia Z3 Compact, S7 Active and others with smaller battery that were easily able to push 3 days with regular use. Hell, the Z3C was able to get up to 5 days with a little bit of trickery turning off radios when not in use etc.
Is the extra diagonal inch of screen realestate really enough to destroy the battery longevity? Typically with normal usage I am seeing 2 days with about 4.5 hours of screen-on time.
I've experimented with just about everything to push this out including no official facebook apps, decreased resolution, medium power-saving mode, kernel tweaks (currently using TGP rom and kernel), auto-sync turned off. Going beyond this I feel like you may as well just use a push-button device.
Any devs care to comment? What is the main factor that eats the battery on the Note 9? Is the exynos processor just not that power-efficient? Am I missing some hidden gem?
I guess the next step would be to transition to an AOSP based rom where the customisation is not constrained by baked-in samsung features but again, this is giving up a lot including proper s-pen functionality.
I recently kitted out an LG V30+ for my wife and it is just insane to me that a phone which only has a 3300mah battery can get the same life as the Note9 or better.
Is there some strategy I have missed or is this really the best we can hope for? Seems like an extremely inefficient use of 4000mah to me.

This is what you get when you use a high performance chip.
If it was like cars.. just because the gas tank is big (battery) doesn't mean that the engine won't consume the fuel faster than a more Efficient engine (cpu) with less power.
Other phones might be able to last 3 days, but they also dont have the performance capabilities. Turn on extreme power saving and see how long the phone lasts ...
I'm using stock unbranded ROM. I also adp uninstalled all the Facebook system apps (devil-ware). With Pie + OneUI + Night mode + Dark UI apps, it's the first time I love stock. I bet your non-stock ROM + TGP is the culprit.
I charge nightly on a wireless charge pad; easy on the battery. In Device Care, I run the default "Optimized" setting. I use it moderately for the first 12 hours of my working day (meetings phone calls), and I often have 85-90% charge left at that point. I then use the phone HEAVILY for the next 4 hours (watching video, reading, etc.), and at that point I am never below 50% (often 60-70) when I put it back on the charge pad, go to sleep, and start the whole thing over again. I have the US version (Snapdragon), darkmode and auto brightness is always on, and I use Automate to toggle my wifi off when not home and back on when home. Other than that, I have gps, bluetooth, and phone data always on. Bluetooth pairs with my watch and car, and gps auto-toggles by the kernel whenever I load maps or whenever my Life360 app updates my location (every few minutes).
That's all fairly normal use with a bit of power-savings thought into it. If you cannot get similar performance without your screen brightness jacked way up and wifi always on (that eats battery as you move around), then maybe you have a power-hungry app. Check your Device Care section of Settings, and start watching your "Usage by apps".
Also, it's better to slow-charge than fast-charge (wears it out more quickly). And you are better off charging nightly than waiting two days until it's very low.

A lot of people don't realize the huge difference that your cellular connection strength makes a difference on your battery.
Try working in a all brick/stone bank building, where 250kb/s is a good 4g download speed... Then see what your battery looks like after a few hours.

YEP!
And same goes for wifi.....
wifi and cell radios can really eat up battery if they are trying to maintain a connection in areas where wifi/phone signal is weak. And app like Tasker or Automate can toggle these on and off, depending on your location, and really save battery.
Well, that probably explains a few things. I moved in to a SOLID brick building recently with double glazing everywhere and multiple solid brick internal walls. First time I've ever battled for cell and wifi signal...that does explain a lot. I guess 2 days is still pretty good. Might end up with one of those 10,000mah Chinafones eventually ;p

Poor battery life on second P30Pro

Hello, I had p30pro and was perfectly satisfied with it but from curiousity changed it for oneplus 7 pro and then galaxy note 10+, wasn't satisfied with those devices because of worse battery life than p30pro, I had 8-10h screen on time with p30pro and ~5h with one plus 7 pro and galaxy note 10+. (gsmarena endurance rating is not correct, p30pro according to them has 100h endurance rating and galaxy note10+ has 107h, so I expected battery life to be pretty much the same but its far from that )
because of magnificent battery life on p30pro i changed back to p30pro, but this is second unit I got and battery life is not like on the first one. first one was 1 year old 8/128, current one is 8/256 3 months old and I have like 5-6 hours screen on time with new one which does not satisfy me, battery life is primary reason i got back on p30pro.
usage is the same, same applications installed as far as i am aware
I have screenshot from first p30pro with 8hours screen on time and 25% battery left, it was so great that I had to save it  and battery life was contant like that
Other pictures attached is from current device, 3h31min screen on time with 38% battery left, so by the time it drops to 25% like screenshot from first p30pro it would be like 4h30min screen on time, big difference. battery life is constant like that
any tips, solutions, suggestions, thoughts?
-i did wipe the cache in recovery
-i tried dark mode
-no app seem to be draining the battery
solutions that i am thinking about:
-wait for 10.1 update for my device and see if there is any changes
-sell this one and get third p30pro (really dont want to do that, I will lose money and time and would be furious if i dont get good battery like on first device )
-factory reset (really dont want to do that, I will lose half a day again customizing and installing everything)
is integrated battery info correct, could there be something /an app that drains the battery but is not showing correctly in battery usage?
FAULTY UNIT?
There must be somethnig draining battery , either delete one by one apk and see if it improved, then you will know which apk was trouble, or hard reset and manually reinstall all apks, do not use backup as faulty apk will do same harm.
Second phone was new or second hand? If second hand you should do hard reset first.., tip for future..
one thing I noticed on screenshot from first device is that I was using only one sim card back then, I turned off second one now and will see if battery improves, altough in Screen On Time thread I see people have 8-10 screen on time regularly with two mobile signals.
"there must be something draining the battery..." can there be anything like that but not showing in battery usage correctly? because everyhing in battery usage seems fine.
both phones was second hand and I did reset them, but from menu, dont know if there is any difference in reseting from recovery?
1. EMUI 10.1 have same battery in some cases may be worse battery than EMU 10
2. Why sell phone if this one is good just need find what eat battery
3. Factory reset thats in many cases fix drain problem but if you wont do that why you not do backup first than make factory reset
Solution
1. Try put all apps in sleep mode settings ---> battery ---> startup apps (there enable sleep mode on all apps only leave apps from where you want get notifications)
2. Dark mode i recommend you use it any time its not save your battery too much but it can help to save battery
3. Use Huawei optimizer app to clean junks and optimize phone
4. Disable synchronizatios
5. Disable GPS, NFC, Bluetooth if you not use it (if you use any navigation than just use GPS when you not need it)
6. I see your Google Chrome use too much battery use instead Kiwi Browser
7. Same about Instagram use light version of instagram or try InstaMod app its better for me
8. Your screen display use 24+ % battery try lower light i have set on AUTO BRIGHTNESS (Tips in settings display set lower resolution)
9. Cell standby try disable mobile data when you not need and btw try put sim in another slot
10. Disable or Uninstall all apps from Google i have disabled Google Movies, Google Music, Google Drive and mayn other apps just disable all apps which you not use
11. I see you are on stock launcher you can try Nova Launcher or Evie Launcher or Microsoft Launcher....(Tips Evie Launcher is one of the lighweight launcher and build for performance/battery i now use Microsoft Launcher which is same as Evie but with little more functions
If you need any info just ask
so I disabled second sim card yesterday and this is result I have now, much better! 1h16min screen on time with 86% battery, which corresponds with about 8h screen on time :good:
can't believe another sim card has so much impact on battery life. my signal is full!
in next few days I will try only 3g or 2g enabled instead of 4g for second sim card to see if that makes a difference.
5 hours & 40% still left, always using data connection. Mainly browsing and watching videos.
VOG_L29D EMUI 10.1.0.126, firmware updated using hisuite proxy
But also any other firmware version was giving the. Same SOT

Yes brightness is always automatic (indoor and outdoor) , i rarely use wifi,
Usage, facebook, YouTube and emailing, and some light gaming.
Also I'm using two sim cards but disabled 4g on the first sim card wich i use in calls and left the data line 4g.

I think I found your cause of drain. Go to settings, apps, apps, on the top right click on show system apps, then check for hms core. Click that, then on the top right you will se a gear. Click on the gear and carefully untick everything that has to do with data sharing, analytics etc. Check your battery again and let me know mate ??
