Hello there xda community... I am new to this forum and have just succesfully managed to wreck my Xperia Zs screen.
I have only wanted to clean my phone under the sink (its rated for low jets of water) wiped it dry and then after a few minutes, fractal structures if I may call it, started to creep up all over the screen.
It started slowly from the corners jumping all across the screen in seconds. (very weird)
I have uped some screen shots! This is my second Z i got. My first one, I exchanged it because it had burned pixels on the screen with which I could not live with.
I just dont seem to be lucky with this phone! :/
I had all ports closed and no water was detected by the detectors. I believe the leak came from the power or volume buttons but who knows?
I feel like my trust to Sony is broken.
I have seen others put it under the pool with no probs... but well someone has to be the lucky one! :/
I think am gonna turn back to my old Nokia 3330!
P.S do you think that I stand a chance of exchanging it since no water detection was triggered? Am going to try any way.

sorry to see that man, the best thing you can do is try and explain your reason...you can try to let it dry and exchange it.
Since under flaps there is no red colored markers, I belive you can get replacement. It looks like it was manufacturing defect phone and this should not happen. I was scared to put my second XZ under watter, feeling of flaps was like they were used and not able to close as they should, so I made small test step by step, but now I am sure it works. And yes, as some people use it under water in pools, I don't plan to do that hehe.
Wish you luck with service!

So sorry to hear that. I hope you can get it replaced.
After playing around with it under the tap and a little bit of water to test the resistance on day 1, I decided to avoid water whenever possible.

I'm just sat patiently waiting for mine, and the last thing on my list of things to do when it gets here is stick it under a tap to test it.

That's smart. I can say it is quite water proof however, I had a scare because the main speaker took nearly 12 hours to dry before it started working again. (I researched and found out this is normal as water gets in the speaker. So no more
It's nice knowing that during catastrophic accidents and heavy rain this phone will be functional though!
sorry to hear that this has happened.
That is definitely water ingress into the screen. since the front and back are glued into the frame it looks like that's where the failure occurred and water entered that way.
Since the water indicators are still white I would stand your ground until they give you a replacement.
Same scenario, my phone is under going rice treatment. I'm encountering a weird problem, my phone's LED went red and vibrated 3 times and went off. The cycle goes on and on and its about 5 hours since. Any way to resolve it? :crying:
Edit: Unable to get to fast boot, when unplugged the phone stops the cycle.
As said before, if the water ingress tapes are still intact (white) then take the phone for a warranty replacement.
To the OP - If and when you get a replacement, I would suggest not exposing the phone deliberately to water, especially not just to clean it. Get a microfibre cloth, for goodness sake!

I precisely lock all the flaps and wash my Z from time to time.
No problems whatsoever, the only thing is that the loudspeaker get's stuck with water and you have to wait
for it for some time to come back to normal loudness.

Thanks for the advices! I took it back today and got a replacement. I didnt say anything about the phone getting in contact with water. Infact they didnt even ask. They checked the tapes and looked suprised because to them it looked like something between a crack and a smudge though it didnt have the symptoms of a crack. (probably because of the sharp lines formed on the screen?) I just kept my mouth shut and was waiting for their question about water which never came. Anyway it ended with a happy end and I got my 3rd Xperia Z within 2 weeks! Awesome!!
So the moral of the story is do not get overconfident with water resistant stuff!
After this am thinking that I could have bought the S4 without all the disturbing flaps, since from now on am going to avoid water in every way. I had a quick look at it when I was at the shop...it really does not feel like a 5" screen comparing to the Z, but the screen is just a bit to colorful for my taste.
I am sure we will be seeing more of these water damages as time passes...
Water Resistance on the Z is more of a marketing "trick" than a reliable feature!
Hello, community.
My Xperia Z also got wet (for 1200th time) but this time is different than any previous - seems like water got inside my Xperia...so, I am not able to turn my phone on.
Actually, it was working for 15 minutes and just after shot down.
I used hair dryer...no luck, get reboot signal once and that's it.
An hour ago I bought some rice, placed Xperia into it...so, I will waiting for few days, who knows, maybe It is going to come back to life again
If so - great...If it doesn't - ok, I can live without it

OMG, this was the first thing i said.
suddenly my X1 fell into the toilet straight into the pipes!
but before it goes into the water, a good thing happend! the battery popped out . this might be a good sign
lucky me, i recovered my phone, but will it work?
i don't know, it's out of warranty anyway so let's open it, clean it and see what's inside.
steps done so far (started @ 10:00 am GMT+3)
1) washed the phone, with every single cleaning liquid i ever found
2) started opening the phone and cleaning it from the inside (yes, puring it with water and some cleaning/anti germs stuff) and yes including the bords.
3) finished cleaning it from the inside, now drying part (current status)
4) dryubg is over, connected everything together (without the body of the device, only boards) and YEPPPPPPPPPIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII, it's working.
a) Touch screen is fine, LCD have some problem (seems it still have some water in) i will dissamble the LCD completely.
b) no other problems to the main hardware (as PDA, i didn't test the speaker or anything else!)
5) OS Is not booting now, LCD is missing the RED Color, getting stucked on the SE Logo!
6) got really tired, i think this will need time, went to the shop, bought an HTC Touch HD
7) i will continue working on X1 untill it's fixed.
i will update this as i progress.
wish me luck
[12-5-2009]
Finally got some time to check why the phone is stucked SE Logo.
- first tried a hard reset
it didn't solve it, i thought maybe flashing a new ROM will help.
- Flashed a new ROM (HSPL already there before),
Still the same issue, the LCD is missing the Blue Color Sometimes, its a carbon connector for sure and can be fixed, but why not booting?!
[28-5-2009]
- got more time to work on it
- flashed nX1i_v1_04_WWE, still, stuck on se logo!
- Check attached Images
Edit : i replaced the LCD, the phone is booting now but it's taking around 4 to 5 minutes to boot, it get's stucked at the SE logo then it continues.
i'm able to flash new ROMs.
BT and Wifi are not working.
BT is turining on and off but i cannot use it, my X1 cannot be found using any other BT device when it's on visible mode. and cannot send files from my X1!
Wifi : Not turining on at all!
anyone with ideas? i really suspect the flexcable due to any accedental push i made when opening the device but it's expensive to replace and honestly, a new X1 would cost a bit higher!
dang thats unlucky - as long as the battery fell out it wouldnt have short circuited anything then i guess - just dont turn it on till its SUPER dry

do you think it's possible to use the elictric hands dryer? or it will do some problems?
don't think a hairdryer should cause problems
about warranty then think all phones today have
indicators which show if they have been wet because
dropping it in water is not covered
surprisingly many people seem to drop phones in toilet
read it was the most common way for them to die
Are you shure that you aren't just in a bad nightmare?
My aunt throw already three mobiles into toilets, don't ask my why
Everything I can say is, that none of the phones could be reanimated
I have too admit my Xperia fell in once, after a few days all was okay, exept dpad wasnt functioning, and i couldnt hard reset or enter bootloader ( weird problem ) with the keys. Ended up replacing it, and forget asap.
Hey,
sh*t happens. Anyway. Here is a link with a thread called: my phone got wet - what should I do!
Even I never had such an accident before I found the solutions quite useful.
Have a look:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=448106
Greets
I haven't read that thread posted above yet, but never use a hairdryer/hand dryer. The can be quite hot coming out of the nozzle, if you're not careful you can melt plastic with them (I work in a helpdesk, I've seen laptops come in after a tiny spillage but with melted keyboards after being attacked by a hairdryer).
Best bet is to take all the covers you can off, dry with a towel/kitchen paper (toilet paper breaks up and leaves lots of little bits) and leave to dry *slowly* resting on a towel, folded several times over, on top of a radiator. Leave it there for 24 hours, more if it looks like there's still water in there.
I'd expect to see tide marks on the screen afterwards though, especially if you live in a hard water area. If you live in a soft water area you might be luckier and have very little residue.
Maybe u should let the x1 go where all the good phones go, phone heaven.
bit of advice dont answer your phone as u take a leak, friend done that in a nightclub and then had to reach in and get it out. even my beloved x1 would have stayed there (take it as a lose lol).
ps. i hope u get it working bud
I read in an iphone forum that you should bury the phone in rice since the rice absorbs all the moisture.

Go and buy some Isopropanol, now open your phone and disassemble everything.
Fill some Isopropanol in an cup or something an lie the board inside. (IMPORTANT: The microphone and speaker and camera shouldn't get wet so get it off the board or if you can't you must seal them)
Now let the board lie in the cup for 1 night or so. the isopropanol should evaporate. the clue ist that the isoprop. is binding the water and the salts etc. in it and evaporates with them.
With this method i rescued several phone which was gone swimming
Sorry for my bad english

At first I as gonna reply with laughing my a$$ off but then on second though I was like "your $ just fell down the toilet" dang...
Kids...be sympathetic...
Anyway, also happened to me a while back, but with a PDA.
I dismantled it, washed it part by part and it worked like a charm after that.
The only thing was, the LCD was permanently stained or smth. One of the light diffusers into the lcd (which was paper btw) was damaged by the water.
But it was functional and I could still use it ok...until I fell on it...
And this happened (check attached file - if you look closely you can see the right part of the LCD is kinda missing)
I'm pretty curious to see your display after you manage to get it working...
Can you get some pics online?
I once accidentally dropped a Sony Ericsson device in a large glass of water - it completely recovered. Hope you have the same luck
So, after I finally got the charging dock, after 3 weeks of charging the phone through the USB port, I decided to test it in water for the first time. I checked that the flaps were well sealed and put it in water, as it was showing a video. All good so far. After 2 minutes, I took it out and put it on a towel to dry. Still working. After 5 more minutes, I noticed that the USB cover was slowly coming out by itself. I pushed it back more securely, but it was still pushing out by itself. I opened it entirely then covered the port again securely. 15 minutes later, phone still working. I DO HOPE nothing went wrong. I will be back tomorrow with another update. I am not sure why the cover was acting up. I am sure I placed it well before I put the phone in water, I checked like 10 times.
Following morning, phone works well. Last night, I also opened the back cover and dried the drops of water in the area outside the battery protective rubber ring. I guess the phone is alright but I probably won't do the water exercise very often, I was nervous as hell

Thanks for sharing.
I always hesitate to put my XZR to test in water until last night when I was texting my gf when I was having my shower.
Pressure from my shower induced touches but it was expected.
Then I put it into test under water and it works just fine.
Now I'm just wondering how will it perform if I test it in sea for <1meter <10mins since the IP58 stated only for fresh water...
The word around the forums is that it will be fine as long as you clean it in fresh water immediately after so no salt can attach to the materials. But... I don't think I'm going to dip it in sea water. Good luck!

Dock from amazon.co.uk, as I am in the UE . but of course I should worry. Just read how many Z users got them damaged by water. There have to be a few defective devices now and then and if you are unlucky, it can be yours fortunately mine seems to be ok.

Hello,
I also performed a water resistance test by putting the phone under the shower. All the flaps were closed and I was disappointed that water came under the back panel: the NFC port, camera lens and some interstices on the edges were wet. Does that mean the phone is water resistant... even inside ? :silly:
For those who tested it, did you also notice water under the shell ?
hi all...
nice thread BTW , but i have to sya that why we dont make it a thread about testing the whole proofing thing of the XZR (Water/Dust/Drop)
i have question about dropping the phone , is it really shatter proof phone? cause i often drops my phone so i need a phone that has strong screen glass?

I think the OP could just rename the thread
I'm don't really want to drop my phone for testing but I think the screen is very resistant. It doesn't bend when we press hard on it because there is no air layer between the glass/touch panel and the screen itself, and all the components seem very close.
The frame of the phone also looks strong so I think the ZR is well cooked for drops. Anyway paying attention is the best way to keep a phone alive
It's normal that water goes in the camera part. The phone is fine unless the water goes in the battery part. You need to dry the water inside the back every time you put it in water.

there is an laternate dock on ebay for 10 USD, can't post link yet, just enter ebay and search "xperia zr dock" there are several sellers selling them.
i bought one, will probebly arrive in a week or more so i can review it.
and about the anti-shatter film, can anyone elaborate? is it supposed to help defend the glass from shatters? or just keep it from disintigrating once it's been shattered? cos the latter is disaponting.
It's meant to keep the glass from splintering after it shatters. It's pretty tough. Dropped the phone onto concrete from my hand, so about 4 feet. It survived although the frame got a bit of a dent.

frankly , i don't think that having a removable back cover in a waterproof device is a good idea , this thing will make alot of people (like me) hesitate before buying this phone , my brother has the Xperia Acro S , the phone is really solid build, he use it alot under water , he likes to listen to music while taking a shower ,and he always take the phone to pool trips. i dont think the the owner of XZR will dare to do it that often.
maybe i will have to change my mind about buying this phone, after the Z1 was announced.

well, you've seen what happend with the xperia Z, it's back is not glued right and water are leaking between the glass and the back into the device for a large number of people, not having a removable back doesn't nessecarly means better.
the ZR removable back actually looks good, this rubber band does a much better job then glue, and for most people who had leakage problem with ZR it was from the flaps and not the back.
now i wonder how can the acro s be more durable, the thing has 5 flaps!! thats 3 more than the ZR, so unless sony really lost thier game producing those flaps it shouldn't be any less better at it.

you have a point here , yes the removable back cover dose not mean it will be bad for water proofing , but still it is scary to try it in the water.
to sum the whole water proofing thing , i think that water proofed devices should have very few moving parts , and that is flaps and back cover...
Xperia Z1 and S4 active (that has removable back cover) share this feature of having only one flap , the uncovered -yet proofed- 3.5 jack is a big win. those seems to be better waterproofed devices.
Conned by Service Centre
I have to complain about the loss in faith I have had in this company I once trusted, considered reliable. I own a Sony Television, a PS3, Music System, POS Camera and now a Smartphone, the Xperia ZR. But the business policy and Service to Consumers have changed over the years, and this has caused a great emotional and economic distress to me.
I had bought an XPERIA ZR(C5502) on the 11th of September, 2013. After a month of use, suddenly the screen of the phone would not turn on. Other functions were working perfectly as far as my knowledge goes, (i.e. camera button, volume keys etc). A few days ago, it stopped booting altogether.
On contacting the Sony Service centre he informed me that I have done water damage to my phone, and therefore void my warranty. I repeatedly asked him to open(unscrew) the phone and check for any damages, but he told me that he wont open it, because some litmus paper inside the phone had turned red, indicating water damage. I persistently said that the phone has undergone no water damage, and is not turning on, so to please check for any damage inside and fix it as it was just a month old and was under warranty. I repeatedly told him that I have not brought the phone under water contact in any manner, to which he replied that then it was my fault during purchase, that I didnt check the water indicator strip, thereby asserting that I AS A CONSUMER AM NOT ASSURED A DEFECT FREE PIECE UPON PURCHASE. WHY DIDNT YOU PUT A CLAUSE FOR THE CONSUMER, THAT "PLEASE CHECK THE WATER INDICATOR UPON PURCHASE" ? THAT INDICATOR HAS BEEN RED AS FAR AS I KNOW.
ADDITIONALLY, THIS PHONE IS IDENTIFIED AS "WATERPROOF" BY SONY. But he said I had to pay 80% of the phone's actual cost, to get a replacement, and he will NOT REPAIR IT UNDER WARRANTY. ALSO, HE ADDED, THAT HE WILL ONLY OPEN IT TO INSPECT IF HE GETS A SPECIAL EMAIL FROM SONY INDIA AUTHORITIES, INSTRUCTING HIM TO DO SO.

thank you for your attention....

Water damage isn't covered in the warranty, and it's expensive to repair. When my phone got water damaged (happened less than 48 hours after I got it), I put it in a bag of rice with the 2 smaller flaps open for a few days. That didn't help at all, so I decided to leave it in my cupboard with all the flaps open for a day or two. Surprisingly, this took care of all the visible condensation. I charged my phone after this, and there seemed to be no problem. I continued to use the phone like nothing happened, and I kept using it even while the screen was white.
I've had my Xperia Z for almost a month now, and the white screen issue is entirely gone. I also had other problems like condensation in the camera, a malfunctioning proximity sensor, and an external speaker that didn't work. These problems are gone too.
The only signs of damage left on my phone are condensation in the flash and a little silver blob below my screen (no clue what this is, but it doesn't seem to affect the phone).
I'd say leave your phone somewhere airy with ALL of the flaps open for a couple of days, and then try charging it. DO NOT USE A BLOW DRYER OR A VACUUM TO TRY TO REMOVE WATER, AS THIS WILL RESULT IN HEAT/STATIC DAMAGE.
By the way, how many of your water ingress indicators have gone red?

Water damage isn't covered in the warranty, and it's expensive to repair. When my phone got water damaged (happened less than 48 hours after I got it), I put it in a bag of rice with the 2 smaller flaps open for a few days. That didn't help at all, so I decided to leave it in my cupboard with all the flaps open for a day or two. Surprisingly, this took care of all the visible condensation. thank you for your attention
there 1 indicator have gone red, at charge port, but i really sure i've closed it before i brought it in to the water...
so if there is technical error when installation the port, are the warranty still valid ?
i just put my xperia in my bedroom and left with the ports opened, i hope the water inside my lcd can evaporate. I've the same problem with you, there are some silver blob below in my screen too, look like water behind the lcd. almost a week i never charge my phone, i'm afraid there will be shorting inside. so can i charge my xperia now ?
I put my iPod touch on the dash of my car for a day. It dried it out. No sign of water damage. It was in my pocket of shorts and my wife washed it in the laundry.

Yeah, but your iPod isn't held together by a heat-sensitive adhesive. The Xperia Z is. So that's not exactly the best idea...

Hey, don't mention it
Wow, that's funny. It's the same exact water indicator that's turned red on my phone.
The flaps on your phone could be faulty, and if they are, you are still under warranty. Next to your headphone flap, there is actually a Waterproof Test Hole, which Sony Service Centers use to test if your phone's waterproof capabilities are okay. The test hole can't be seen as there is a piece of plastic that covers it.
The thing is that it's more than likely that your phone will pass the waterproof test, and that your flaps came loose underwater when you were taking the video (pretty sure this is what happened to me as well).
Oh, and I can confirm that the silver blob is not water, but actually some sort of corrosion. It happened to my previous phone as well, and when I took it apart there was no water at in it at all.
Go ahead and charge it, you've got nothing to lose. Your warranty is void, and it's not like your phone will work without charge. Good luck!

i put my xperia z to sony service center yesterday, and They were looking for what ' s wrong with my xperia, and check is the warranty stil valid or not.....
but it'll surely need a long time, about 1 month++.....
Soo where should i start, i've had my z1 since it was released oevr a year it's been through alot and it has alot of memories, i've taken it too the sea and in pool water on my vacation in thailand some months ago, it took alot of abuse back there and it emerged victorious.
Anyway every friday i clean my phone, a month ago or so i used too warm water it seems, the glass lifted due to this as i could feel my finger getting stabbed by the glass when moving from the side the waterproofing remained fine ever since untill today.
Today i did it again all flaps sealed tightly (i never open them as i have a dock) etc when done cleaning it using soup (i always use a little soup) i put it on a tshirt to dry, anyway a few hours later i tried turning it on it was entirely dead, so i put it in the charger tried turning it on again it made 3 quick vibrates showed the sony logo (the screen is completely undamaged) and then proceeded to die and go back to the battery status screen.
I was told by sony it might be a software fault i was unsure, a few hours later i saw that the camera lens was clouded it still is which confirms water damage, it can't be much though as the screen works perfectly fine and the phone charges.
So what should i do? i've put it in a sealed container of rice but i assume theres no use as this phone is waterproof meaning no water can escape from anywhere it's pointless now when i think about it, i plan on taking it to a repairshop and getting it repaired chances are the damage is highly minimal, atleast from my guess considering theres no visible damage apart from the clouded lens.
This phone means everything too me so i am not afraid to pay alot to have it repaired, it's worth more too me now than when it was brand new due to all the memories it has, anyway any advise on what i should do now? i am starting to realize that putting it in rice was pointless as theres no way for water to escape perhaps through the flaps as i've opened them.

so i tried turning it on today and it worked camera works fine everything works fine however it did random double vibrates and once it entered my "night view mode" indicating that it was put in the dock when it wasn't so i will put it back in the rice untill maybe monday
Howdy. My Z3C has gotten wet quite a few times already, without trouble, I've had it for a few weeks now. Today, I decided to test it in the shower with some music (BT speakers) and browsing some sites. Naturally, beforehand, I checked the sealing on the waterproof slots, they were closed snugly. The shower wasn't too hot, about 30 degrees celsius.
I was curious to see how the touch would hold up under wet conditions (surprisingly well!). It did get splattered quite a bit, since I was exploring the device its water resistance. All went perfectly and the device seemed fine.
About ~15 minutes after the shower, I noticed something strange. My device 'buzzed' three times and the screen went dark. Curious, I tried to turn on the screen. Nothing. Holding the powerbutton longer makes it repeat the 3 buzzes, shortly flashing the screen (sony logo, slightly displaced and with some red). This, to me, seems like water got into the device after all (how!?). It should be able to withstand some water splatter easily.
So now I'm slightly panicking... has anyone had similar experiences and found solutions?
EDIT: Started digging for answers and took out the SIM and MicroSD. And what do I find.. a damp micro SD card. It wasn't soaking wet, but some water definitely creeped into the top slot. I'm very unimpressed with the water seal right now. I'm letting it dry and will see if it starts tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

Does not sound that good. But you should be able to claim warranty. As its a new phone the seller is obliged to provide evidence when blaming you for having damaged the phone beforehand.
Did you charge it with a magnetic charger adapter or did you always fumble open the seal and connect it via micro usb?
I directly bought a magnetic charger and am currently using the phone as ftp server in order to exchange data with the pc as i never want to touch that tricky door again.I can imagine that reusing the seals over and over again can lead to degradation and consequent loss of waterresistance.
I really hope that your phone miraculously survives but even if it does it would be better to get a replacement as you never know what damage the water did. And fluids are pretty toxic , for all electronics. Your phone could just die 3 months later.

Thanks for your reply and sympathy. I have used a magnetic charger from day 1. Funny enough, to prevent exactly this problem. The only times the slot has been open, was during installation of the microsd and initial installation and data transfer. From there on out, it's been closed for a week or two.
It did survive being in my pocket while I got soaked canooing (teambuilding with colleagues). I even made some pictures and videos then. Somehow, it didn't like the shower. Perhaps it got a bit too steamy?
Hard to say, but I will definitely claim warranty if it turns out the device is now defective. I've not used it outside specifications. It could be in the same conditions on a tropical rainy day in the southern lands.
I'm just going to go and sleep soon (>3AM here), rest my worries and have hope for the morrow!
Did any of the water hit the phone directly out of the shower head? That's alot of water pressure, of which I'm not sure the phone was able to withstand. That's why its generally recommend to not put your phone directly under running water.
Good luck though... Keep us posted
Try the pressure sensor test:
1) close all flaps
2) dial *#*#7378423#*#* (7378423 = SERVICE)
3) service tests/pressure sensor
4) press the screen, pressure should go up
Planned to (and should have) gone to bed, but didn't yet (really will after this post!)
The water jets should be no problem. Read more about IP ratings on wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IP_Code In short: Immersion requires a way higher rating than high pressure water jets (and a shower cannot be considered high pressure).
As for the pressure test: Impossible, the phone doesn't start anymore. But I didn't know that existed, neat!
I've now put it in a bin of rice and on the central heater (no worries, insulated it so it won't heat up to enormous temperatures).
I'm pessimistic.
Really sorry to hear that man. I've been showering with my phone too XD, luckily without incident. I know a few others who've been doing so regularly as well so I'm pretty confident the phone can withstand it. Let's hope your phone revives tomorrow, but it IS strange water got in if you recall sealing the phone properly.
Water vapour is less dense than water and will travel through the seals.. It is not meant to go in hot water / steam..

It's true that vapor is less dense, but coming from the first ever water resistant phone, I have seen some videos. On one of the videos people were 'cooking' the XZ and there were no problems afterwards.
Here is one of the vids:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=slngeQtyTlg
The Xperia Z even had lower resistance ratings then the Z3 Compact.
In my opinion 30C water shouldn't be a problem at all. I have showered with my XZ multiple times and with hotter water temperatures.
Most of the times the seal isn't the problem, but the adhesive that wasn't glued properly.
It's dead. A night in the rice did nothing. Whenever I try to start it, it vibrates 3x, flashes the sony logo and turns off again. When I put it in the charging cradle, it loops this action.
I'm contacting the supplier to get it exchanged.
For the people above here, I did not expose it to "hot" water, just warm. It was not exposed to high-pressure vapors. The seal simply wasn't as good as it should have been. Reading about the IP ratings, by all standards, it should have survived this adventure without trouble.
Unfortunately, that is not my luck.
Sorry that you are having this issue but steam is a different animal than submerged water and I think most electronic manufacturers specify against it

Exchange process was horrible, more than two months. They repaired it, and it works. I've already gotten a new unit in the meantime though.
Hijacking sort of this post, I just bought a Z3 compact, and I chose the z3 compact over the z1 compact because I read that the IP rating was higher, and ive been reading around that the z1 compact worked flawlesly while the z3 compact is dying on almost everyone. ugh. Now Im afraid of watering mine.

I think it's region/version dependent - I know 2 other people (and myself) who have D5803s (Central Europe 1 version) and the phone is perfectly waterproof.
Brought my Z3C from Spark here in NZ, just recently been for a surf after work (didnt have it out there with me) had it in the shower with me to get rid of the dust from Dyna drilling all day, now I have the same issue... Gonna get a hair drier on a low heat onto it soon....
****en disappointing though, Im an electrician by trade and know all about IP ratings, this phone should not be given one if it can not withstand what its rated at. I always had my Z1 in the shower with me with no issue (only the touch screen issue, thats why I have the now dead Z3C)
Will let you know about drying it with direct heat soon. Realistically if it was stuffed cause of water damage it would most likely just not work at all.

So after using the hair drier on it (info tab pulled out n all) and dropping it on the floor in frustration, it is now back to a normal working mode. I am assuming that it was the hair drier and not the drop that fixed it. Next step was to spray the **** out of it with electronic contact cleaner.
Hope this works for someone else. Dont be scared of heating it up or even using contact cleaner. The equipment shouldnt be that sensitive then again it is a Sony product...

I dont think this relates to the IP rating of the phone, millibar pressure doesnt change when flaps are opened, and i doubt the phone has a built in air pump...

did the supplier fix it for you without any question? it happend to me and i dont know what to do...
