CWM Recovery Flash Help - Motorola Atrix HD

I am following the instructions on this guide for flashing CWM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2227288 and when I am in the command prompt and i enter the command "fastboot erase recovery" I get an error message like this:
erasing 'recovery'...
Permission denied
FAILED (remote failure)
finished. total time: 0.107s
I followed all the instructions. I renamed the file and my phone is unlocked, but I still get this problem (i ran the command prompt as admin too).
I need help!
I would have posted on the thread itself but I do not have enough posts yet..

[SPLASH1|GENERATOR] Spla****

The above graphic was made with the release version of Spla****!
Hello there, this is my first post in this bit of the forums as I don't regularly dive into this sort of project. I recently created a splash screen for HCDRJacob based upon the htc quietly brilliant screen and it gave me an idea, make a generator!
You can choose the resolution, the text and the colors.. The next version will have a hex input for the text color. The resulting .img file it spits out can be flashed through fastboot but that is not really related to this itself. The resulting files will be hosted for an unspecified amount of time (Ostebaronen is hosting it so I really don't know) so don't link directly to them.
Here are some examples of splashes made with the generator.

Please, comments below, thankyou.
Thanks to Ostebaronen for hosting this and anyone who tested the earlier results.
Hey, I've been looking for something like that, is there a link???
Thankk u

N00bish question here- when i flash it whatt exact data (and from where) does it replace. eg.bootloader/radio/bootimg
It will replace the very first splash screen you see . Take note also that you need fastboot in hboot of your phone.
You will need to have S-off, right?
hahha nice tool man
you can create very funny things with it
thanks!
Sweet Nice applications like this is always welcome to the scene.
"C:\SDK\tools>fastboot flash splash1 1296755019-flash.img
sending 'splash1' (750 KB)... OKAY [ 0.121s]
writing 'splash1'... INFOsignature checking...
FAILED (remote: signature verify fail)
finished. total time: 0.289s"
this is what i'm getting.... i think it may be because i have a nexus one...read that somewhrere...but yeah some insight?
Excellent thanks i make one to test, but...
sorry for noob question how can i put it on mi evo?
I see a how-to but with zip file, but this method launch img file.
roar109: This is a different splash, this is splash1, wheras the zip is the bootanimation.
IceNova: follow this link to root your nexus one, this should enable fastboot, http://theunlockr.com/2010/01/02/how-to-root-the-nexus-one/
diegov600: Yeah you need S-OFF for the fastboot flash splash1 command
Just wanted to say it worked great!!
Thanks for the awesome splash creator!
Now time to attempt some troubleshooting...

Now assuming you have root and all that, is your 1296755019-flash.img file in the same directory? Try renaming it to something a little smaller like splash.img, then once in the tools directory, just do "fastboot flash splash1 splash.img" That's exactly what I did and it worked first try for me. Hope you get it resolved.

Use fastboot method as explained aboved. Boot your phone into hboot mode (The screen that tells you your radio and that junk) then on your pc, navigate to your android sdk's tool folder using command line and follow the previously stated steps to fastboot flash the img file.
is there a way of flashing this using like root explorer, or using terminal emulator on the phone. im only asking because i dont always carry my usb cable with me and 90% of the time im using dropbox to transfer files to my phone and no need to always have the usb.
Not that I know of no, sorry.
Good job!
Trying this now and just downloaded my boot screen...super easy and kinda fun lol...now when i have more time gunna put it on the phone!
update: have more time now so putting it on the phone but...
having troubles : (...i have the .img file in the platform-tools folder with all the correct filepath etc...but the type "fastboot flash splash1 my#-flash.img" and get the following error:
"fastboot is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file."
sorry im new to all this hacking/software stuff...more of hardware fan myself lol
Lol thanks .
@ above: Fastboot is at C:\android-sdk-windows\tools by default.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/11197643/Spla****/1296762749-gen.png
The newest version...waiting on it to be updated.
Pretty sweet. Would be cool if you could do it without the quietly brilliant part.

Is your bootloader unlocked?
if you have working clockworkmod, then just flash a rom from clockworkmod recovery.
yes bootloader is unlocked and at the moment my phone does not go beyond "X" but it goes in bootloader mode and recovery i have tried both the recoveries.rom is not flashing
Go to www.shipped-roms.com and download the frg33 shipped rom. Extract the zip within the zip and rename it PASSIMG.zip. Place it in the root of your sdcard and boot into the boatloader.

Or download cm7 and let the fireworks begin

From past experience if you can get to recovery your phone is not bricked. You need to download a rom from off these forums. Download CM7 and flash it
Bootloader is not detecting the passimg and I have tried cm 7 and the stock to flash through recovery after flashing it gives me a weird error:
E:cant symlink /system/dumpcrash Error
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA Premium App
Looks like your internal memory has crashed. I'll get back to you when i have more details.

Could you give us some more details? When you place the renamed PASSIMG.zip file in the root directory of your sdcard and boot into the bootloader, what happens? Does it search for a PASSIMG file? Does it give you an error? What?

Accidentally formatted sdcard prior to flashing

Hey guys, I need some help here
I accidentally formatted the sdcard when preparing a clean flash. I also formatted system ect. so now all I can do is boot into recovery but no files to flash.
Is there some way I can transfer files to the sdcard og another way to get the device working again?
Thanks in advance.
You are softbricked. Restore factory image using wugfresh
http://www.wugfresh.com/nrt/
Download the factory images, boot into bootloader (not recovery) by holding power+down, then flash the factory images.
I'm in exactly the same boat here, but every time I try to use fastboot commands, I get a write failed. I'm fairly certain the drivers are installed properly, as fastboot devices shows me the device. What else could be done?

Give the exact steps and exact messages, cut and paste is best, otherwise there is not enough info to go on.
I installed the drivers using Nexus Root Toolkit 1.5.5. (I used option #2, which is to install the signed drivers.)
I copied the extracted contents of the Nexus 7 4.2 factory image into my adb folder. I ran a command prompt in that folder.
I type: fastboot devices
I get: 015d25687443fe0f fastboot
I type: fastboot flash bootloader bootloader-grouper-4.13.img
I get: FAILED (command write failed (Unknown error))
I type: fastboot -w update image-nakasi-jop40c.zip
I get: FAILED (command write failed (Unknown error))
Well, I don't know how or why, but I just tried the same thing again using the Nexus Toolkit and it worked this time. I'm booting into a stock ROM right now.
Im unable to turn on USB debugging, cause i have no ROM. What to do?

Out of interest why didn't you just run the small script that comes with the factory image to wipe and reflash everything.
It's what I did to make sure I had a nice clean install.
Or were you trying to keep some data from /data for example.

[Utility][How To]Flash CWM or TWRP Recovery

Note : Its a RazrHD utitlity and I haven't tried it yet on my AHD
Method 1 by @tucstwo (TWRP still not stable for AHD)
Reference : http://www.droidrzr.com/index.php/t...-or-twrp-recovery-1-click-updated/page__st__0
Just make sure you've got your drivers installed, USB debugging is enabled and that you have UNZIPPED this package BEFORE you run it.
Download - Version 3
Instructions :
Be Bootloader Unlocked
Download Link Below
Unzip
Plug in Phone
Hit "Run"
PS : cause some people are having trouble with method here. Grab Root Explorer or ES File Explorer, browse to /system/etc/install-recovery.sh. Long press on it and rename it to install-recovery.sh.bak so that is't not called out in the future.
Updated 4/8/13 21:17 EDT: Updated TWRP to 2.5.0.0 for both flash methods
Method 2(TWRP still not stable for AHD) :
1.Download twrp-2.5.0.0-recovery-vanquish.img from http://goo.im/devs/Hashcode/vanquish
2.Just do this in fastboot mode:
C:\ur path\>fastboot flash recovery twrp-2.5.0.0-recovery-vanquish.img
Method 3(WORKS for AHD) :
Download here : CWM Recovery by Epinter
Method 4(Works fine) :
Click here : Motorola Photon Q ClockWorkMod ROM Manager Recovery
Link to ROM Manager
Install CWM Recovery for Method 3 & 4
Read Epinter's RAZR HD CWM Thread
Download the recovery image
On stock rom, navigate to /system/etc and rename install-recovery.sh to install-recovery.sh.bak(You can use root explorer,ES Manager, etc)
Reboot into fastboot -- use "adb reboot bootloader" from Terminal\Command Prompt
Wipe the existing recovery -- "fastboot erase recovery" !
Flash the recovery with "fastboot flash recovery cwmrecovery6028-xt925_20130219-epinter.img"
or "fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-6.0.1.3-asanti.img"
That's it, CWM is installed.
Please let me know if someone tries this.
Thank you

Same here.... i don´t understand all about reboot into fastboot.
--- Edit: i know how to do now, but maybe i do a another guide, more specific.
I'm running the Windows command line as Administrator and I also get these errors when I try to run "fastboot erase recovery":
(bootloader) Variable not supported!
erasing 'recovery'...
(bootloader) Permission denied
FAILED (remote failure)
finished. total time: 0.107s
Any ideas? Thanks
Update:
So I tried again with this fastboot executable, instead of the stock one that comes with the Android SDK. Now the error is this slightly different:
erasing 'recovery'...
Permission denied
FAILED (remote failure)
finished. total time: 0.101s
Update2:
I ended up flashing CWM without erasing the old recovery, and everything seems to work fine.

Ok, read the instructions. Make sure you change the file name in the stock rom. Be rooted and bootloader unlocked. Do you all have the right drivers? A good way to check is to type adb devices in terminal. If that works then you're good to go.
Thanks for the guide. Did anyone had luck flashing TWRP?

yes ,it is v17.
1- for trying your ROM ، i must transfer your rom into my device and my device don't have memory slot and i dont know how i can transfer your rom into my device for installing
