I was watching a Galaxy S4 commercial that featured the ability to answer calls with a wave over the device. I thought that was actually kind of cool, so I went searching in the Play store to see if there was an app that replicated that feature.
I found something called Wave Control (and Wave Control Pro), so I promptly downloaded it and installed it on my One. The standard app doesn't let you do much customizing of the wave features, but I was able to test the basics with music control. What the app does is it looks for triggers of the proximity sensor and uses that determine what commands to send to the device.
Unfortunately, it looks like the sensor in the One isn't the best for this kind of app. The default is a hover to play/pause music (hold your hand over the sensor), a wave for next track, 2 waves for the previous track, and 3 waves to enable/disable wave control. For the One, I could only get play/pause and next track to work. The proximity sensor seems to be too slow to detect multiple waves. After the first wave, the sensor seems to ignore inputs for a bit longer than is needed for the app to work.
Just to make sure it wasn't just me not understanding how the app worked, I tried it on my Nexus 4 and it worked fine. The sensor on that phone was a lot faster to react to whatever my motions were.
This is disappointing because it looks like I will need the Pro version if I want to answer phone calls with a wave of my hand. The default is one wave to silence the ringer, 2 waves to answer the call (which doesn't work on my One).
Just wondering if anyone is willing to give it a try and see if it works better on their One vs. my One.
Just installed for you yes music is working but phone is not shame

Yup, exactly the same for me. The sensor just wouldn't work with multiple waves, only play/pause and next track.

Cool. Thanks for the updates guys!
I guess it really is a gimmick, but it would be cool if it would work better. I did find one annoying little quirk. Since I have it set to work with the screen off, anytime something covers the sensor, it will start playing music. This could be me reaching over to turn on the phone, or a paper covering it, or me picking the phone up by the top side. I'll probably play with the app a bit more, but I'm not sure it's a keeper.
Yeah i uninstalled already lol
Just tried it... Just uninstalled it, tbh, i got quite frustrated with it. lol

I'm not sure if this is old news or not, but I'm using a pair of Sony headphones with controls for iOS devices, and they have partial functionality with the Samsung Focus.
Only the center button works
Same as iPhone controls: single click for play/pause, double click to skip ahead, triple click to go back a song.
Volume buttons do not work.
Edit: The microphone doesn't work either, yet it cuts off the handset microphone. So if you place a call, there's no sound at all unless you unplug the headphones. You can hang up the call by pressing the button on the headphones though.
So... they're pretty much only good for controlling music.
It sucks that they only have partial functionality, I wish I knew of a way to make them work.
I've heard rumors that you can get all of those features working in PlayerPro. They have a free five-day trial on the market; try it out, it has a headset section in the settings for hardware buttons. I'd love to know if you can get all of that functionality working through PlayerPro, as I'd have no problem dropping $100 on a nice set of ear buds w/ the iPod controls, but not without knowing all the music functionality works.

has there been any development with this? im thinking of buying some b&w p5 headphones, but i'd really like it if they worked with my s3...

I don't believe the Focus has different requirements then other WPs.
DOES anyone know of any compatible headphones with controls for the Focus S. I was planning on getting some Beats Tour, but I read a review that they didn't work on the Focus S. Also, I have lost all my silicone tips from the ones that came in the box, so that is kinda out of the picture.
Thanks!
Try the ur beats ( not the ibeats) they say made for htc sold at AT&T stores worked on hd 7
you can even try skullcandy
Nokia purity
Check these out! http://www.munitio.com/products/
I dont know if they are compatible with our focus s but they sure looks cool.
They have Inline single button microphone for hands free call and playback functions as you requested and most of the reviews are positive.
If you no longer want headphones with controls I can recommend the EP series from Creative... Im currently using EP630 and although there were a few years ago they were released they still kick ass with exellent soundquality.
My S is Missing Headphone Control Features
On my old Focus I could tap the headphone pause control 2x and it would skip up through the preset station list. And I could tap it three times and it would skip down through the list.
My new Focus S does neither. It merely pauses no matter how I tap it. Sometimes it doesn't even pause it.
Does anybody else have this feature?
Check it on an old Focus if you want too.
This is the kind of thing that makes me want to go back to Samsung, I mean they are the leaders in sound yet can't get music controls correct and keep a freaken standard. Last HTC I had came with a 3 buttons headset and through all Android did. With the One they give you good headphones but a single button headset and no way to skip tracks.:crying: I tried 3rd party apps like headset droid to make use of the single button headset but it seems like some clicks go unregistered, single click (pause) works, but when you double click all presses after that go unregistered and you have to click (pause) click (unpause) and then you can change the track.
I confirmed using the button monitor that clicks after a track change go unregistered which seems odd and I'm surprised no one else has this issue? This is with the stock music player.
When using Play Music and setting Headset Droid to specifically control it it starts to work like i want but weird the stock player canot be controlled the same way.
Complaints like this are stupid. It's just headset controls and if it is really annoying you buy a different phone.
I know it may seem a bit harsh but a complaint like this is a bit redundant.

I use Sony livesound and can skip tracks, the only down side I find is not being able to adjust volume anymore.

Why is it stupid? The controls have nothing to do with the phone. The phone (stock music player) has the capability its just the supplied headset are lacking. If they supplied a 3 button headset like most newer phones then this would not be an issue (brothers Note 2 three button headset can skip tacks when plugged into the HTC One). Last HTC came bundled with a 3 button headset and if the One did I would not have to resort to 3rd party music apps and apps to control a single button headset. If they wanted to supply it with a single button headset then the music player should have been modified to support it.
Sure I can go buy Beats but the supplied headset should be able to complete a simple task such as changing a track.
I wish there was a MOD that fixed this! Drives me CRAZY. And I don't want to switch music players - I actually think everything else considered, HTC's music app is one of the best I've used on Android

Bro, Did you fixed this? Drives me too, i'm always keep calling every last call.
Pffff drives me crazy, so ridiculous.
I wish there was a mod to bypass the damn default settings of the headset button. This way we could use Jays Headset Control app....
I gave up on it and use Google Music now, I really liked the stock player but can't complain with the recent updates Google added. I froze the stock player so it never kicks in
So it does not work with a 3 button headset, or you are just obsessed with the fact that it it not COME with one?
Because it would seem like a simple fix to just buy one, if the phone supports it.
I just used the 3-button control headset that came with my Desire HD (they're still available on the internet) and it worked perfectly as before. I can answer calls, skip tracks, change radio stations etc...
anyone able to fully test the turbo and moto voice in a car environment please? maybe with windows open also.
i would like to confirm if the turbo can handle all the touchless functions while the car has the windows open.
On the note3, it is unable to differentiate voice from car engine/wind noise and thus continues to listen until it times out and thus recognises nothing useful at all., totally useless in the car.
Im hoping the turbo mics are able to block out the wind and engine noise and such.
if it all works, im hoping to root the phone and add custom commands so nearly everything can be performed without touching the phone.
I'll give moto voice a few stress tests. I'll post back with results.

For me.. Moto voice has a tendency to pick up road sound....I'll be done talking and it'll keep listening..Microphone seems uber sensitive..

Really? cos thats what my note3 in doing now, makes the google now voice service useless unless your in a car that is silent.
So, Is this with the windows down? so it cant separate wind noise or car engine noise?
Windows up or down.. doesn't make a difference..
thats a shame, hopefully someone finds a work around.. thx!

I'll report some better findings. I use Moto voice in my car all the time for placing phone calls and short text messages. I also use the voice recognition of Swype for longer texts/email replies.
Generally I'm in a Mazda 3 which is a bit quieter than the cargo van i also drive. In the car with the windows up, it always recognizes the wake up phrase and as long as there isn't a commercial vehicle next to me, it also recognizes my commands. When Moto voice doesn't recognize the commands, it punts the voice data over to Google Now which can usually finish the job. In the cargo van, i usually have to loudly speak the wake up phrase, and it almost always needs Google Now to finish the task.
I find the voice controls and recognition much better than on S4/5 and can easily use it without worry or frustration in a car.
Got my turbo on Sunday. I picked it over a note 4 because of the touch less control. After spending a few days with it and constantly trying to use the touch less feature. I must say it sucks. Its pretty good at picking up the wake line. But after that its a hit or miss. I have to turn off my radio every time when I have to use touch less because it won't stop listen with the ratio running. Overall I don't think the touch less control is ready for prime. I'm at the verge of turning this feature off completely.

I wouldn't expect it to work with the radio on, it is listening for human voice after all. Once you unlock it, any words (yours, your passenger, or the radio) start to get analyzed. It does ignore music without lyrics and auto noise.
I've had really good experiences with the voice. Of course it will pick up the radio. It's kind of silly to think it could pick out your voice from all kinds of ambient noise. I usually just kill/mute the radio while I use the voice. It's only for a few seconds anyways.
If there is a lot of road noise or there is a strong crosswind that I can hear in the cabin of the car, Moto Voice will tell me it's a little noisy and I will need to speak up. But as long as I speak a little louder and clearer, it works really well. I just need to get another car dock that fits the Turbo. My old Moto X dock is too small.

Thanks for the replies everyone, now im back on the fence again
i do know the the tubro wouldnt have the ability to isolate different voices so definitely would lower/ mute the radio.
If voice control is something you REALLY want, I can say that my Moto 360 lets me voice control my Turbo while in my Mazda Miata, with the top down, at 75 mph.
Since this topic is in the "accessories" category, I figured I could mention this!
We have a front sensor that shuts off the screen when you bring phone up to the ear during a call, so there should be a way to make that sensor do other things like pause a video. Right?
I'm a big fan of Tasker and it most likely can be done using that. Maybe someone has done it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2131591&page=15
Also, there are apps like Wave Control that do what you wish, although the OP of that app says it doesn't work as well on HTC phones: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1678012
