I like to have word prediction on, so that I can see word suggestions and choose a word if I want to. But it seems to force autocorrect too (when I write a word that it doesn't recognize it puts in the highlightet word in the prediction window when I press space, instead of the word I have written. And I don't want it to autocorrect anything.
Is it possible to keep the word prediction, but without the forced autocorrection?
i don't have the phone right now but you can take a look in the settings>keyboard & languages
Thanks, but I can't seem to figure out what to change. I go to the HTC Sense Input > Advanced where I can turn predictions on and off, but I can't change the autocorrection there. I think..

The auto complete for the hardware keyboard (which I believe is modified).
Is quite annoying. I am on Cyanogen 7.6.2...
I tried turning it off through settings and no luck... It makes my typing much slower.
Is there a file to remove through terminal emulator or ADB?
Don't press the text field when the keyboard is open. A little trick I found out to stop it. If you disable it, you disable autocomplete on the VK.
I know that but that is plain annoying too

if you turn off the HTC keyboard, you can disable it properly i believe
Would be awesome if there was a way to disable autocomplete for the hardware keyboard without having to disable it for the VK. I understand the reason why there's not such an option, as I assume the HTC_IME is really only available (in the wild) on phones that have no physical keyboard, so no such distinction is necessary.
Is this something that could be hacked or modified? I don't suppose there's source available for the HTC_IME?
Would be nice if there was an option as I much rather hte HTC_IME, especially in protrait mode for the phone keypad and T9. Best way is to get used of using the trackball to move into the text field instead of touching it to avoid prompting the auto correct when using the hardware keyboard.
Maybe someone might work on a more internal solution when the time comes.
Go into
Settings > Locale and Text > Touch Input
Disable Prediction and Word Completion
That will fix it

I think the problem is that this also disables VK's autocomplete.
This problem is the reason why I went with the Chinese IME. I do use the Chinese part, but not enough to be the deal breaker. The HTC_IME has better portrait mode VK, but the autocomplete-with-hard-keyboard kept me from using it.
On Cyanogen's todo list, it says something about stopping interference with HTC_IME and the physical keyboard. I think he might have been talking about the autocomplete thing, not sure though.

i go in this order to;
settings
locale and text
touch input
then the options are keyboard types, keyboard language, text input, and tutorial. i click text input and it only says prediction, spell correction, word completion, sound, and vibrate . every option is unchecked, but it still automatically capitalizes the first letter of every new line or sentence .

yes, i set touch input (htc_ime) as my default input method .
Swype is a incredibly awesome input method, i am addicted and i dont plan to EVER EVER LEAVE. But there are a few things that urk me about it.
#1 How come double tapping words only works in landscape mode to bring up the word choice menu?
If this was fixed, it would make my life and my #2 woe out of commission.
#2 Is there ANY WAY to remove hard coded words in the swype dictionary like
"Dint", i am SICK OF SEEING THIS POP UP. I want to type dont and 90% of the time it is dint. Yes, i know i can choose to type do not, but... its the fact of the matter here.
These are just the 2 things that are really bothersome to me at this point. I would really like to have full access to the user dictionary instead of just words we added.
I think you can get to the user dictionary through:
Settings -> Language & Keyboard -> User dictionary
...Or swype over "d-o-n-'-t" with the apostrophe. Problem solved, plus people will think you're even more intelligent than they do already!

that just accesses the android user dictionary not the swype one.
I agree that the it needs more control over the user dictionary. Sometimes it keeps coming up with really unusual words ahead commonplace ones. It also frustrates me that every time I update the android OS I have to reinstall swype and none of the user settings or custom words are saved. I have to start from scratch each time.
Ya, I'm used to spelling "dont" and having the phone auto correct it to "don't". With Swype, I have to use the apostrophe to get it to recognize the right word.
@op
Hello,
According to the swype developers, the double click feature for word selection is something that require OEM integration - which is why the beta version lacks it. In landscape though, the text entry box is actually part of the Swype object, which is why in that mode the double tap feature works.
Dictionary wise, all i know is they use there own custom one - Not sure you can really do much with in the official swype versions "/ Could always put a plus vote towards swype using the main android dictionary on there usersvoice account?

yeah, reinstalling is getting old lol, even my titanium backups dont restore properly. its probably so they can keep them in the beta status and expire at some point. i wish i could just buy it already and it would be in full release, i would easily pay 10-20 bucks for this.

All I do is select the word, or put the cursor into the word, then hit the swype key and that brings up the word choice menu

No chance, it is only going to be sold to OEM. It will not be on the market.
Kinda sad that we cannot access the dictionary. I dont see why the double tap correct works in landscape and not the other. Is there any developers out there that can change it, or are we not messing with swype anymore? The code is obviously there, and i know it would be something a TON of people that would want.
As per topic. Is it possible to do that? I mean, without the needs to press long on each word to save it.

Wow, that was fast, I'm using the keyboard that comes with CM6, if it's not possible to do it with that keyboard, which keyboard is capable of saving those words automatically?

i have never used CM so i cant tell you about your keyboard, however most keyboards will automatically add a word to the dictionary once you hit space, others like the HTC keyboard give you an option to add words with one press. It all depends on the keyboard.
I'm using the HTC IME keyboard and it automatically adds a new word you type that it does not recognize.

On the default CM keyboard, if you have the predictive option turned on and you get that bar of words above your keyboard... type in a word and hit space... you'll see in that same bar it points to the word you just typed and tells you to tap the word to add it to the dictionary.
I DO want the word predictions, suggestions, autocorrect, etc features.
What I absolutely cannot STAND, as well as cannot phantom why they thought it was a good idea, is how the stock keyboard will replace a word you typed correctly with a completely different word it assumed you "meant" to type, even when both words are in it's dictionary. The keyboard options seem to be an all-or-nothing deal from as far as I can tell, either I disable any and all types of correction and prediction features whatsoever, or leave them all on.
Yes, I know there are alternate keyboards, but I prefer the stock one. Is there any way to disable only this feature?
Settings/language and keyboard/Htc sense input/advanced. Its right there at the top it says "Word Prediction",un check the box

I don't think that's the option I am thinking of. I am talking about how it will auto-replace the current word you are typing, even if it is spelled correctly AND in the phone's dictionary, by the word it thinks you MEANT to type. Not offering suggestions to what it thinks you are typing before you are done typing it, or autocorrecting misspelled words.
