Well, I have been looking for a replacement for my aging GT 10.1. Not that I do not like that tablet, I like it, but it is now slow and Samsung does not make a newer, slim, fast high-end tablet any more (yet). Galaxy Note is thick and has a low-resolution.
Actually I had bought Nexus 10, but I sold it because I did NOT like the washed out color. My GT 10.1 has very white, bright, and colourful display.
I have been waiting for Xperia Tablet Z, but I just watched a review on HTC One on YouTube, and the reviewer said the display of Xperia Z (the phone) was a garbage, and not to even think about it. I once saw one of my colleague's Xperia Arc, and that display was really bad. Colours were washed out and it was dim.
I think, for tablets, display really matters. Sorry for asking something about Xperia Tablet Z when this forum is for Xperia Z, but there is no forum for Xperia Tablet Z. Please advice.

Hi all. I'm thinking in buying the Xperia Z. What will I miss coming from the Galaxy S3? Anyone made that kind of "update"???
Imho if I had a s3 I wouldn't change to the Z. Not because it's not better but the actual increase of performance is not worth it. If I were you I'll wait until the next flagship.

Worthwhile considering your reasons for leaving.
The biggest thing for me is that the S3 feels cheap and nasty (I still have one - it's my work phone)
The XZ feels premium. 'Feel' counts for a lot, to me

Coming from note 2 i will initially missed the wow and colour pop effect from the Samsung, however that feeling quicjly changed to sheer appreciation of a more natural, and extremely sharp display of the xperia z, that is so much more peasant for long time viewing.
I miss the bigger battery,
Things I don't miss
Longer charging times,
Ugly Touchwizz design,
Cheap feel,
Everywhere I looked people owned it,
now when on public transport heads turn at the "Rectangular black all glass, Sony logo devil beast" that guy is holding
Things I miss -
The contrast and viewing angles of the screen
The hardware buttons that don't waste screen real estate
The rounded edges that don't poke holes in your pockets
Things I don't miss -
The plastic
The lack of a dedicated recent apps button

Exactly, I think this is the best looking android device right now (HTC One looks good too, but I hate Sense)... and XZ has almost a stock android look.
I've a doubt about the charger port on the phone... I've heard on other forums that it is rectangular and not like the standard one that comes with 99% of all android devices, is that true?
I have a s3 and now the z what I miss is on the s3. My extended battery that's about it
The Z display and color is so much more natural and easy on the eyes.
The S3 has the wow pop colors on their display.
The build quality on the Z is so much better than the plastic S3.
I came form Note 2, but my wife has still has my old s3.
I agree with some of the above and definitely do not regret moving to XZ from Sammy and I've had galaxy's since the s1, the xz is a better phone in terms of features and build quality. I'm not even sure I'll get an S4 given how much i like the XZ
S3 +
has more vibrant/ brighter colours - but can also be a bit blue or yelllow due to manufacturing differences
Removeable battery
hardware buttons( you definitely miss them at first)
XZ+
Camera is noticeably better than the s3 ( my main like)
software buttons - I use button saviour so I can swipe from side to have buttons appear and get a fuller screen xperience
Screen is a bit sharper/more natural colours
I find the Battery is way better than s3 with comparable use
I miss from my S3:
Battery - I find s3 outlasted z by a short margin especially screen on time
Screen - Z screen is a little washed out but is much brighter and more readable in Sun than the s3
Great camera - S3 camera is better and has a much better flash
Bright Led flash - I use the phone as a torch a lot, S3 flash is twice as bright as Z
Smoothness - S3 is faster than z, or should I say smoother, a lot smoother
Feel - S3 feels nicer and strangely less plasticity than Z, Z feels like it's light and plastic and the screen kind of bends
Good speaker - S3 speaker is a lot clearer and louder
Music - S3 sound volume us much better
I guess that sounds like I should go back to S3 but the Z is new, is waterproof, survives more harsh treatment than the S3 and has a better keyboard and nicer software than the S3.
Ok maybe I'm missing the S3 a bit lol. But seriously the Z isn't enough of an upgrade in my book.
First ill say i love Z... had S2 + S3
miss from my S3 the battery... for sure the screen on battery outperformed the Z but on stand/sleep mode Z outperforms S3... at the end of the day S3 wins.
Screen colors of S3 where more vibrant but at outdoors/sun (especially if you wear sunglasses) Z outperforms S3 by far!!!
Screen of Z is more color correct and for sure i wont be missing that blue tint in the whites of S3...
Design & Quality wise Z is by far better + waterproof!!!
Software wise S3 had a ton of customizations which Z doesn't have anything YET!!!
I don't think i will be missing anything actually!!! Happy to have the Z :victory:
Just replaced my gs3 with Xperia Z.
Things I miss.
Honestly nothing.

Hi
I'm currently using Samsung S3. So far I am happy with Samsung S3 for its fast processor, GPS starts fast etc.. Just that it's giving me eye strain perhaps due to prolonged use in the past, now I can hardly surf long in it. I'm thinking of Note 2 for its bigger screen (but I am fearful it will not resolve the eye strain).
Was wondering if Xperia Z would give me less eye strain.. Of course, I don't mind a nicer more solid external look Xperia Z has to offer but seems a big sacrifice of letting go of the following Samsung galaxy's benefits:
1. I am using Wanam lite rom which is excellent with its toggle buttons (allowing wifi, GPS, torchlight etc to be switched on/off easily) and making S3 sleeker. Was wondering if there is any great rom developed for Xperia Z to reduce battery consumption, increases performance and functionality.
2. Read GPS is slacking on Xperia Z. Is this true? I need my GPS to start fast when driving.
S3 GPS starts fast..
3. S3 screen seem scratch resistant relative to Xperia Z..
4. Long battery hour
5. S3 does not heat up like Xperia Z
That said, I am looking for a more solid built smartphone. I have a sony mp3 which I accidentally placed in washing machine along with soiled bedsheets - it survived fine. I was truly impressed...
Anyone who can provide me some feedback on my queries would be deeply appreciated. Thanks!
XZ might resolve your eyestrain problem, it uses different display, with full RBG matrix and it's 440+ ppi with 1080p resolution.
As for the rest of your questions:
1. There are custom roms for XZ already, take a look in Development section.
2. Haven't noticed and problems with GPS, it starts reasonably fast, certainly as fast as my old Note 2 - and Note 2 used the same chip/software as S3 so I'd say no problem here.
3. XZ screen is as scratch resistant as S3, or even more thanks to Dragontail glass. The "problem" is Sony put an anti-shatter film over the glass, and it's the film that get's scracthed, not the screen/glass. Some decide to remove the film, some choose to put a screen protector over it - both ways works fine for me.
4. Battery life is decent - it's not great, but it's not worse than S3's in that matter.
5. They actually heat up almost the same.
If you're after good design and build quality - XZ is a phone for you as long as you can overlook it's minor flaws ( yes, it does have flaws, like every single phone ). Also, Sony's stock firmware is brilliant, it's the first Android phone I haven't rooted and installed CM on it - because frankly, there's no need to do that at the moment.

Thanks! :good:
I've gone from a S3 to a Sony Z. There are some small things that I am getting used to but mostly enjoying the change.
Battery has been unbelievable in standby mode. Last night it dropped 1% in 7 hours after disabling most of the bloatware. I haven't started stamina mode even!
Took some time to go from S3s strong contrast screen but now much enjoy the XZs softer more realistic display.
I bought a Zagg back and front protector actually for grip. I don't wanna put a shell on it but with the glass face and back being quite slippery I thought it as a good compromise plus more protection.

Hi all
Thanks for the helpful feedback. Today, I went to try out both Samsung Note II and Sony XperiaZ and Nexus4. Quite like Sony xperia, however it seems when viewing the same fast and furious trailer on all the phones, Sony Xperia Z fared particularly badly. Nexus 4 and Note II give sharp images but not Sony Xperia Z. I wonder why. It's HD youtube, this one which was tested on all three smartphones. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z7zl_t48CMc Sony Xperia Z supposed to give good display, why is it so bad in this instance?
Hello.
I purchased a Xperia SP White, i was so happy till i came to home and shuttded up without tags, and surprise! the colors are poor in the display
Truely that was too sad because the person from Sony told me... buy a SP and not a ZL its better, has almost the same hardware, little differences. The i saw another SP but black and the display's colors are better, so i decided to made valid my warrinty, now i waiting for my mobile.
But the question is... anyone with a White SP has or had the same troubles, is it the mobile's color? can we see different Xperia's SP Display just for the color (black or white) =( im nervous while i wait for the answer.
Thanks.
Apologies for my english.
I have a friend who has a white SP.The colors on my black SP are much more vibrant compared to his white SP.Maybe they are using a different display on the white devices or you both have a problematic display.I hope someone knows.
OK - the Z Ultra is a GREAT phone [tablet-thing] but its a little too large for my daily use.
See my post here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2750555
Got it on Amazon yesterday and promptly returning it for a Z1 LTE in white ( Newegg.com is the best price I've found ) The Ultra's build quality is top-notch and what has prompted me to get the Z1 LTE; really I want the Z2 but not for my wallet at the moment.
Right now I'm using my LG Optimus G Pro and love the 5.5 size and beautiful display. I feel the Z1 is no downgrade as it also has a great screen + solid glass/aluminum construction over the plastic LG.
First order of business will be:
Remove front screen protector (did this on my Xperia ion last year)
Remove rear glass protector (haven't seen anyone do this)
Rooting and unlocking the bootloader
Look for the "perfect" case that allows me to enjoy the phone's build beauty
Selling my LG
Thoughts or comments greatly welcomed
Hi there guys,
I have a question. I have owned many Xperia Z series phones, ranging from Xperia Z, Z1, Z2 Z3, Z3 Plus and even Z Ultra. Now I have had a problem with the glass disjoining on all these models. I have had multiple versions of the same ones yet after a few months use they all have the same issue, the back glass will start coming off.
I treat my phones really well, always in a case with screen protection on both front and back and also never dropped etc. However, the only phone that never did this to me was my Z1. I am saying was because now I have noticed the glass on the front is slightly coming up on one corner. Its not so big but it is noticeable from a very close distance (refer to photos).
I wonder if the phone is no longer waterproof and is there anyway of fixing this problem (or do I have to send it to Sony). And can I continue using my phone without it getting worse. I'm currently using it just with screen protection on both sides.
