[solved] [Q] Stuck on "entering recovery..." - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

solved.
I had CWM, flashed stock recovery. Booted normal, proceeded with HTC One firmware update (from stock ROM, to stock ROM update).
Now it's on the white HTC screen and on top it just says "entering recovery..." but nothing happens.
Holding power + vol up/down just makes the 2 keys flash - but nothing happens. What can I do?
Code:
D:\DL\android\one\One_M7_All-In-One_Kit_v1.0\Data>adb devices
List of devices attached
FA33CW901790 recovery
Edit: rebooting into recovery using ADB does the same. I can get into bootloader though. Did I flash the wrong stock recovery or something?
Code:
(bootloader) cid: HTC__001
OKAY [ 0.001s]
finished. total time: 0.002sp
Edit2: I flashed openrecovery-twrp-2.5.0.0-m7.img and that works.

Hi
Greetings,
After flashing recovery did you try this code

If not flash recovery and try againg with the above code

Hi, I still had ADB so I flashed another recovery which worked fine. Then I flashed a custom ROM. Cheers,

similar problem
I'm just having a similar problem - my screen is also stuck on the 'entering recovery' stage with an otherwise white screen (with HTC logo).
I already tried using the 'fastboot erase cache' command, which didn't seem to help at all.
Additionally my bootloader screen has a message at the top saying ***TAMPERED***. I don't think this is normal, but I haven't found much info about it online so I don't know what to think of it...hopefully it doesn't mean it's dead!
If anyone can give me any help it'd be awesome.
Cheers!

What do I do to flash another recovery?? Is that just entering boot mode and repeating the process? and what's CWM, how do I get it and what do I do with it?! I really am new to all this stuff so any explanations in words of one syllable would be awesome.
Again, apologies for sounding mildly retarded....
Cheers

maybe I'm slightly less stupid than it seemed..I reflashed with CWM and it worked out fine.
Cheers again for your help

Is your phone running stock or custom recovery? If the bootloader is (re)locked, it can't boot to custom partition so if your phone is locked with a custom recovery, you can't boot to recovery. Thats why you should never relock when custom software is installed.
Can you post your "fastboot getvar all" output please (remove your imei and serialno).

[Q][H] HTC one Bricked? Wrong recovery image?

Hi All,
I just unlocked the bootloader on my m7 (at&t) and I was following this two guides http://www.android.gs/how-to-install-twrp-recovery-for-the-htc-one/ and http://www.androidegis.com/how-to/how-to-install-twrp-recovery-for-htc-one/ for installing TWRP.
I downloaded the file which is pointed in both tutorials from http://d-h.st/3ST and copied boot.img as indicated to fastboot folder and then ran "fastboot flash recovery boot.img" fom the CMD console. I rebooted the phone, selected recovery and it's stuck in Entering recovery. I guess boot.img is not the correct image.
I also noticed a flag "Tampered" on the top of the boot loader.
Hope you can help me, many thanks in advance,
Nicolas
Edit: It's not rooted, it was the next step to do.
Edit2: I tried once again holding the power button + VolumeUP and the phone is back to life. I wonder if the .img that I loaded is not the correct one. Could you advise and tell me what are the next steps to follow now?
Cheers

Download this file http://techerrata.com/file/twrp2/m7/openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.3-m7.img and rename it recovery.img and place it in your fastboot folder. Boot the phone to the bootloader and connect fastbootusb
Then in the command window type

Then try entering recovery again.

Does it still show correctly in your pcs device manager. Sound like drivers need to be re-installed see 2)Q in this faq post to fix your drivers. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=52135024&postcount=2 If there installed correctly and you still have this error. Make sure you command line is opened at your fastboot folder.

I've been playing around with drives, uninstalling, installing, etc but no joy yet. The driver which can't be installed is HTC MTP Device but the FAQ you pointed me does not cover this one.

The MTP driver is not required by fastboot, does your device show as My HTC in device manger.
Are you sure you have your command prompt using your fastboot folder as the working folder?

Thanks for the quickly updates. Will deploy the img you pointed me before.

Successfully loaded. I am able to boot into recovery now. Phone rooted.
Multiple things happened here:
1) Drivers issues
2) The cable I initially used two unlock the bootloader isn't working anymore with fastboot.
Edit: should I set S-ON to OFF?

It's always better to be s-off, but I would spend some time getting to know the device first.
If you flash something wrong with s-off, you could brick your phone.

Ok so fastboot is working for you to get the getvar. What output do you get when flashing recovery? Can you post a screen of that?
Also you should edit the image so that it doesn't display your imei and serial numbers
Just noticed you have baseband N/A that's not normal. If you have HTC sync installed on your pc uninstall it but leave drivers installed.
Then see this thread to try and reflash your firmware
Link removed:- never mind it was modified firmware and won't work with s-on

Ok hopefully you can make more sense of this website than I can [emoji12] if it's what I think it is it's the OTA file for 6.13.708.1. You can extract the firmware from this and try to flash it.

You can try to flash the firmware from the OTA zip I linked. Download the ota zip http://pan.baidu.com/s/1ntjxkBf.
Open it on your pc and extract the firmware.zip and put it in the fastboot folder.
Reboot the phone to the bootloader and Connect fastbootusb. Now open your Fastboot command line and type
Code:
fastboot erase cache
fastboot oem lock
fastboot reboot-bootloader
you can skip this if your already locked
Code:
fastboot oem rebootRUU
<--- case sensitive.
The phone will reboot to a black screen with a Silver HTC LOGO. This is RUU mode. Now we're going to flash the firmware.
Code:
fastboot flash zip firmware.zip
The first flash will be short. It's just a preupdate preparing the hboot for the new firmware. So we need to do the same command again.
Code:
fastboot flash zip firmware.zip
The second flash will take a little longer and this time it will flash the full firmware. The progress bar on the phone screen will not reach 100% this is normal as long as the command window has completed its output the flash is done.
Code:
fastboot reboot-bootloader
Now unlock and try to flash recovery.

so the phone doesn't power on at all now? Sounds like your main board has a fault. When you connect it to your pc is it detected as "qhsusb".
You can try holding it under a bright light (focusing the light on the Sensors top left of the phone) then hold Volume down+ power down for 60 secs. But it does sound like a hardware problem with the main board. Which requires HTC Service center. Do you have any warranty on the device?

[Q] TWRP 2.5.0.0 Unresponsive

Hello,
I while ago I decided to root my HTC to get some extra stuff. I used a guide on youtube that seemed to be reasonably well made and followed everystep of the process. But before I could root it I had to unlock the bootloader and install TWRP recovery. I got the latest version and proceeded to the next step, where I encountered my problem. After flashing the recovery everything seemed to be well except that my phone wasn't actually rooted. I decided to redo some of the last steps. This is where things get a bit tricky. I have done this quite a while ago (maybe 3-4 months) and don't exactly remember the steps that I repeated but I think I've also flashed TWRP a second time, as well as some other steps. And when it came to the part where I needed to use the recovery I found out that the recovery doesn't work. I can't press anything on the screen, I can however press the lock button and lock the device but when the *slide to unlock* appears it stops working again. I was running out of time and decided to leave it for another time but time has passed and I never really got the time to tinker with it any more since university started and I'm more busy then ever. This has left me with no ability to root or even update my phone.
This brings me to today, when I restored my phone completely forgetting what has happened. It got back to Android 4.1 and I can't do anything about it.
I hope to sort this out and finally root the phone. But even getting rid of TWRP to the original recovery so I could just update my phone would be very helpfull.
Thank you very much.

The background information is helpful but you have given us nothing to go on.
Post a fastboot getvar all except remove the imei and serialno?
What are you trying to accomplish? Return to Stock? S-OFF?

Tell me what background information do you need and I'll get everything.
The goal is to get a working recovery, which ever one it would be I don't really care. I just want to be able to update the firmware.
reboot into the bootloader. flash the latest twrp for your device using fastboot flash recovery recoverynamehere.zip

I don't know what adb is, sorry. And no I don't, I had to do everything on my friend's laptop because it didn't seem to work on my machine (W8.1 compared to his W7).
Edit. But I do have acces to it pretty much all the time.

you can flash twrp 2.6.3.3
download the file and save it in the same folder where you have installed minimal adb and fastboot
then open the command prompt and with the phone in bootloader/fastboot mode enter these commands:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.3-m7.img
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot-bootloader
What do you want to achieve then? Custom rooted rom? stock rooted rom (latest version)? or you simply what to root the rom you currently have?

Soft-Brick HTC One M7

Hi all,
first time poster - looonnng time lurker. Hoping you can help me with my One M7 brick.
Phone had been running slow and sluggish for a few weeks. Yesterday morning, it was particularly slow with apps randomly closing/crashing. Decided to reboot. The phone didn't reboot though; it came back with a white screen and "** TAMPERED *** *** LOCKED****" coming up - a fastboot screen I believe.
I can't get it to boot at all and I've tried accessing it via adb but it isn't detected. 'adb devices' shows nothing however 'fastboot devices' does list the phone. Windroid seems to detect it.
Ordinarily, I would just do a factory reset to see if this helps but my problem is this - I have SMS messages and photos/videos on the phone of my daughter that I really, really, really don't want to lose. They are very precious to me. If it was a case of breaking up the phone then I'd do it in a heartbeat to recover this data.
I've attached some images that I hope may help. A friend has mentioned that some of the lines indicate a problem with encryption on the card which means the data is lost completely - I'm desperately hoping this isn't the case and some kind soul can help.
Thanks

If the phone was encrypted then the only way to recover the phone is a factory reset using the stock recovery which will obviously delete all your files. Any other method that could fix the phone will wipe it: unlock the bootloader to flash a new rom will wipe the phone, flashing a ruu will also wipe it. Thats probably either an encryption problem or a failed emmc chip. I don't think there anything to do to recover your data, especially if the phone was encrypted. Sorry at least the phone might be recoverable...

Well, after asking a company who said they could do it and then said they'd have to wipe it, I've taken it back.
It seems there's nothing I can do about it; I've even tried using guides on here and elsewhere to return it completely to stock but because I can't get adb working, it's a no go. Factory reset does nothing. Trying to use tools and fastboot to change recovery images and all sorts doesn't work either. Seems to be something relating to 'S-ON' as when it's in RUU boot, if I disconnect and reconnect the USB cable, the screen briefly changes from the HTC screen to the white screen showing "Security Failed!" after trying to flash a new image on.
At a bit of a loss!

adb commands only works from a booted rom + USB debugging enabled from the developer option menu or from a custom recovery. So there is no problem here.

What is it doing exactly? You select "factory reset and it boot to the HTC splash sceen? It reboot in bootloader mode? It freeze the phone?

CWM does not detect my device

hello, I'm kinda desperate on installing recoveries on my phone
I'm following this guide over here
USB debugging mode is turned on, but it is not detected on the shell/command window
when I checked my device manager, my device driver is not found, I tried installing flash tool drivers, but I dunno where to search for these drivers, so I followed the way in this thread
and I found 4 drivers in the list:
- Android ADB interface
- Sony ADB interface
- Sony Composite ADB interface
- Sony Fastboot Interface
tried all the ADB interface but still give same result so I uninstalled the driver back to the way it was
Please help me as I'm really newbie at this and I wanna try Stryflex ROM, thanks
Note:
1. I already unlocked my bootloader, but someone in here said to unlock bootloader first so I assume that it will end the same way as LB
2. The error I received from the command window is "device not found"
3. Phone version C3502
4. currently still using stock ROM with 12.1.A.1.207 firmware, rooted with towelroot
5. I unlock the bootloader using the step on sony site
Bump, pls help anyone?

I strongly advise for you to START with another way and also use TWRP as a default recovery. CWM (and inherently PhilZ) are very old unsupported recoveries.
If you insist, you might want to install DoomLord's driver pack and try again: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2635830
If you wish to follow my method, please follow this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64449411&postcount=4

Nope, this is my only device
Like i said, i cant install recoveries like what the tutorial above said because it's not detected
Hence i cannot proceed to other thing because of the fear of me failing to install cusrom
If i can install recoveries, i can backup (CMIIW) and it's at least reassuring me to do other things, this is my first time doing this so knowing nothing makes me confused and a bit terrified of I fail

yes, and yes.
You can also point to the absolute path of the img file, but that would be complicated so copying would be easier. (welcome to the world of consoles (not the game consoles (command prompt)))

firstly I do install TWRP according to your guide over there using fastboot tools
the one with this command
Code:
fastboot flash boot twrp.img
then it shows message like this
http://www.iforce.co.nz/View.aspx?i=ivkcgknl.fyl.png
I then restart my device normally and it boots into recovery mode, in which then I make backup by selecting all the option to my external card, and proceed to reboot after it's done
it returns me to TWRP once again, and I reboot using "reboot system", it shows sony logo and then black screen for a few minutes, and I got sent back to TWRP once more, I've tried "reboot bootloader" menu too and the same result, I've repeat this for a lot of times and still same result pops out
sorry to bother you this late night and have a nice sleep

Oh i thought you were ready for flashing Stryflex!
Anyway the reason why it booted to the TWRP repeatedly is because of the reason that you flashed a recovery into the boot partition. Please re-read carefully the page that I linked you to
Anyway to boot back to your stock ROM, get yourself a "boot" stock component from this page: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=62447987&postcount=3
Flash it in the TWRP
sorry for the trouble.
