The captivate has Buttons/Toggles in the notification bar and for some reason they have Silent and Vibrate. I would like to have the option to load the i9000 bar that removes Vibration and has GPS instead.
Is this easily accomplished?
At some point i may just switch over to the i9000 ROM altogether, but there still seem to be enough little bugs in even the modified kernels that I am not ready to give up functionality.
Thanks!

Have you tried using an I9000 firmware with the I9000 reorient kernel? It solves most of the compatibility issues
as for bringing their bar over to us (or even editing our bar to choose what we want), I don't think anyone has made much headway on that since it's in framework-res.apk and those are device/ROM specific. I guess you could unpack them and try to find the button toggles and swap them out, but I don't have the expertise to explain/know how to do this.
what bugs are you talking about using a kernel with the i9000 ROMs? the reoriented kernel seems to be basically complete OR you can actually use the 100% stock captivate kernel and it works just as well (except you need to keep the AT&T modem which doesn't have HSUPA). You can even use Unhelpful's kernel for the init.d support for Mobile AP.

I thought the BT bug was still there. I may have to rebuild anyway as I am missing some apps and Samsung widgets after applying voodooo lag fix kernel.
Couldn't tell ya when it comes to BT, I don't have any BT devices
I do a lot of conf. calls on the road, so a BT headset is easier then holding the phone to my head. Especially when i want to surf and post in the forums.
I'd really prefer to have the GPS toggle instead of silent mode myself.

Explain please to us fellow noobs? I really don't know which config files you are talking about editing. Could I ask if the is possibility an app that does the editing for us as well?
WiFi-Data-GPS-Vibrate, would be perfect I'd love to be able to switch.

You can also use quick settings from the market and access gps from pull down screen. Although, I agree having it in place of vibrate would be better.

How?!
I want:
Wi-Fi / BlueTooth / GPS / Vibrate
Then, I can get rid of that stupid Power Control widget that's on one of my homescreens, since everything would be accessible.
Agreed this would be nice, it's one of the main reasons I'm using an I9000 ROM on my captivate currently. I hope it really is just a config file setting, that would be super easy to change...
Reason I prefer this over using a separate application/widget is because it's quicker, more convenient, don't have to waste screen space for a widget, don't have to install more crap to waste system space/resources. Also, Silent is useless to me since why not just use vibrate mode, and silent can be accessed fast enough by holding power button anyways.
If this happened I might be a little more inclined to actually use a Captivate ROM, but I still enjoy the I9000 ROM's either way.
(I actually posted a request for this a while back in the themes/apps section)

Exactly. It's redundant.

How long have you had your phone?
There is NoLED which you can get from the market or you can run an I9000 Rom that has BLN enabled. From their you can use a couple apps, Blinky or BLN Control. We have options that work really well.

Most ROMs have it included. its called BLN (Back Light Notification). I dont think there is an app for it as i think it needs to be built into the kernel (Though dont quote me on that).

They have to be I9000 roms. Blinky app can work sometimes without BLN enabled on the Rom but it is highly recommended to run a Rom that has BLN.
OP: Just look in the dev section for roms that say BLN enabled. That will be your best bet for the menu lights. Otherwise, NoLED works great and it lights up your screen in small icons.
Anyone know if a mod exists yet to give the same functionality thst the gs4 active has? Screen off long hold volume up enables flashlight. Thanks

I don't know about the Active, but on the regular S4 the LED light from the "hold volume up button" is noticeably dimmer than when you activate it with apps. I'm using the Notification Toggle app from the Play Store to put the LED toggle in the notification panel. It's nearly as convenient as using the volume button and it's brighter without any risk of accidental activation in your pocket.

Yea it does have that option, just not the volume up with the screen off. You have to hold the brightness slider icon in the notification panel to activate it.
Not to be a bother, but I notice it works on some peoples phones and not others. Is there a special thing that needs to be done to get the vol-up for torch working? I know how to get to the secret settings, and they're set for me. It doesn't light up for me . Any advice?
Edit:
I'm running stock rooted with Xposed and Nottach Xposed
Use power toggles from playstore. The best

NottachXposed has both of those options. The volume up function is in the Lockscreen settings. You actually don't need Nottach to access it. It's just a convenient shortcut.

I think you need a deodexed ROM. Didn't work for me until I flashed the Mint Jelly ROM (which I recommend :good.

Alright, i'll give that a try. Not opposed to flashing roms, especially if they remove all this Samsung + ATT bloatware Thanks for your help.
Just an update.
I'm not sure if it was having a deodex rom, or just simply being on Android 4.2.2 (Might be the case). But my light is working now with screen off!
EDIT:
One more thing. Enabling this setting will create a wakelock that'll keep your phone at the lowest mhz you set it to instead of letting it go into deep sleep. It's a nice setting, but at the battery cost... it's something that isn't good enough for me yet. I have a profile setup in tasker for TelsaLED on with a shake on the locked homescreen to try my best and mimic this functionality (I was looking for something that starts up at boot, and flips the LED on from lockscreen). I know there's another flashlight that does this as well, but I ran into the problem of it not booting on startup, where as I use Tasker for other functionality so it starts up 100% of the time. It's not 100% since the LED takes a little to flip on... but it's better than having to unlock.
JUST an FYI to save people the feeling of underwhelming when it starts sapping your battery mercilessly!

thats absolutly not true, i use the feature on nottachs xposed app and my phone goes into DEEP SLEEP using ktz kernel, and there is another mod that u can use called 3 minit but you need framework but that has torch when the lock screen is on by pressing the home button, but i found i would have the light on by accident ,idk how but it would jsut be on with that mod.
3 minit work pretty well you can set it to long press home
Try flashlight led genius from playstore , no root need , you shake it when your on the lockscreen, awesome app

I'm going to stick with what I think then. After I flip on the light.. it never goes back into deep sleep. Try it yourself. I'll take a look at 3 minit
FYI the wakelock it made was PhoneWindowManager.mTorchlightWakeLock
This is a feature in CM10.1. You can add it under lock screen options for long press home button. Absolutely love it.

I think your Android version needs to be 4.2.2 to do the torchlight thing through Nova. I could be wrong though.
Ok another update on this.
Since djmouse wasnt getting any sort of wakelock, I decided to try again getting it working. I enabled it through xposed instead of the nova shortcut.... and for some reason it's letting me go to deep sleep now! ... I also flashed crossbreeder... so that might be the savior. Not sure, but happy to report the wakelock seems to be lifted. I'll report back after a few days if it stays that way.
THanks djmouse for challenging me to try it again!
Using an app called Torchie, just press both 'volume buttons' together to turn on/off torch anytime. It runs as a background service and just works anytime, even when screen off (if enabled from Torchie Settings). It kinda make your phone feel like a conventional battery operated torch. No root required.

Yeah, the double tap the power button to launch the Google Camera app.
This is nice.
But, is it possible to disable the vibration?
It's long and very annoying vibration!
Thanks
If anyone knows how to completely disable it, that would be even better. Its very annoying to pull out my device to the camera being on!
Custom rom
blanco, I think you need to read the question again...
In Pure Nexus (a custom rom) you can disable the vibration. I don't know if there's another way.
Flash custom kernel and disable vibration strength using kernel auditor app. this will completely disable vibration of phone. if you dont want this then flash custom rom.
you can completely disable it from settings>display>press twice for camera

With an app called Kernel Adiutor. On my rooted Nexus 6,
It worked first (and every) time for me, no tweaking required. Presumably all your other root apps are working ok?
may I ask how you enable double tap to wake on Nexus 6 on Nougat? thanks
No special action apart from pressing the "activate" button... It just works, normally 95% of the time, since I occasionally have to double-tap a couple of times.
got my Nexus 6 double tap to wake working with Kernel Adiutor (ROOT), is it a heavy app just for the double tap to wake?
any recommended app just for double tap to wake? that and notification led which I use lightflow (any better app for the job?)
they are the main reason I root my Nexus 6,
If you're rooted you shouldn't need Kernel Adiutor for Double Tap - mine works fine and I have no such kernel control apps. As I said, it's not 100%, and I read a long time ago that this is the reason that Google put the ability in the ROM but didn't activate it - they didn't want to frustrate users with what looked like a buggy app. Still, Sean's app works well enough for me, and it means that I'm relieving stress on the power button - Double Tap to wake, and Nova's swipe gesture to sleep, so I rarely need to touch the power button at all. Given the number of people complaining that their power button has stopped working, I reckon the less I use it the longer my N6 will last (touch wood... )
I use elemental kernel and it has an option for double tap to wake on install.
thanks for all comments.
looks like kernel adiutor consume much battery too,
any recommend alternative app for the job? hope there is an app for both double tap to wake and notification led (is lightflow the only choice? looks heavy too on batt)
tia
btw I use chainfire way to root, and has no plan to install custom recovery and custom kernel, prefer all stock, thanks
I bought Light Flow a year or so ago and it seemed to be a battery hog, so I uninstalled it. But given that I'd paid for it, just out of curiosity I tried it again a few months ago and it consumes very little. I put it down to advances in the programming, and I'm still using it happily today. As far as I know Light Flow on a rooted device is the only way to get the LED to activate as a notification.

seems like the kernel adiutor eat battery, it is the first item that drain battery after full charge? should I use other util to get the double tap to wake? that only what I need and beside not fond tweaking,
