As far as battery life is concerned, my oppinion, nothing beats a clean stock Eclair (official), followed closely by a clean stock Froyo (official). All mods are great, but battery life is better in the official ROMs in my own experience.

Are you serious?
iceandfire v2.1 is the best ROM I've found so far in terms of battery life. Don't know why, but it just lasts SO long!
I use ice and fire loads its good but I wish it could be a lot better, testing froyomod now, am considering buying a new phone mainly for battery life as the milestones is sooo bad!

As mentioned, nothing beats Eclair. And if we talk about Eclair, nothing beats Telus Lite.
I have CM7 installed.
Your battery mileage may vary depending on your usage habits... But I'm typically a pretty heavy user. Lots of Angry Birds/other games, surfing, Pandora, etc. I go to sleep at around 11pm with my phone unplugged at a full charge (100%), and I can use my phone until the next day mid to late afternoon - that's about 15-18 hours. Granted, a lot of it is when I'm asleep (until about 7am) and during my working hours, but it's still pretty decent considering how I use the phone. ESPECIALLY with all I've heard about CM7 having terrible battery life.
I DO have several apps and tweaks to try to lengthen my battery life though...
Some things you can do:
- install "Network Switcher" from the market. You can set conditions between certain hours and the screen off to turn off WiFi and 3G. I have mine set turn off all data between 11:15pm and 7:15am when the screen is off.
- install the "Toggle 2G" app. This automatically switches the phone to 2G mode when the screen is off. 2G typically sucks less juice than 3G. (get it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=739530)
- tweak your /system/build.prop file so your wifi scan interval is a higher number. I have mine set to 360 seconds (that's 6 minutes). I don't know about you, but I don't need my wifi scanning every 15 seconds for an open or known signal.
- also in the build.prop file; change your ro.telephony.default_network setting from 3 to 0. 3 means GSM/WCDMA mode; 0 means WCDMA preferred. From everything I've read, WCMDA preferred tends to switch signal types less often, which benefits your battery.
Heck, even if you DON'T have a Milestone w/CM7 installed, these tweaks can help immensely with your battery life.
Froyo should beat out Gingerbread... They're roughly equal for me, but the memory issues of GB make me have to keep my phone on longer to wait for tasks to complete, thus draining more battery overall.

Yep, I've tried pretty much any Froyo and/or Ginger Bread mods (and I've specially liked CM7 / ShadowMOD, but all other ROMs are great as well), no one is close to the stock Froyo as far as battery life is concerned. But, I have to say, it is not absolutely stock, but, with exactly the same VSEL/CLOCK settings I've tried in other roms (which save some battery since it uses lower vsel).

That doesn't come remotely close to the V6 SuperCharger script.
The minfree levels is only one aspect of it.
AKMO doesn't fix groupings or priorities.
With those settings, all your apps are getting killed at 28 mb - because of the screwy groupings they are in the 5th slot while slot 3 are 4 are basically empty holes.
And that whole "banned rom" spiel is getting pretty annoying.
I'd bet money that HONO's SuperCharged CM7 kicks Cronos' ass with those AKMO settings.

I agree with zeppelinrox, running his V6 supercharge scripts work wonders.
And no matter what ROM I use, i always use SetCPU to auto-adjust the processor speed based on certain scenarios. For example, I'm using CM7 right now, which auto overclocks to 1000mhz. That's great for performance but crappy on the battery. However, with SetCPU I can force the CPU to run between 250mhz and 400mhz when the screen is turned off. There's simply no need to let it go up to 1000mhz if I'm not even using the thing! Calls still come through fine, as do emails and messages. But it really extends your battery life. You can go as low as 125mhz, but then things do start messing up. As soon as the screen turns on, the phone is automatically allowed to run at 1000mhz again.
It's also useful for when your phone gets really hot, as a precaution. If my phone reaches 42*C it automatically underclocks as well. I picked that number out of a hat though. It's just a number I felt was too hot based on my own experience with the phone.

Everybody knows that gingerbread memory management is screwed up and fiddling with minfree levels alone ain't fixing anything.
AKMO alone does nothing to fix memory management it doesn't even tell you what apps are where.
One set of settings on one rom has a totally different effect on another rom.
The groupings in CM6 and froyo mod are nothing like CM7 and Cronos.
So those settings would make froyo roms dog slow but are kind of aggressive in CM7 and Cronos and of course do nothing to make the launcher more responsive in both cases.
The only way to know what kind of effect minfree levels would have is if you know where the apps are.
And the only way to be certain of where they are is to tell android where to put them.
Which is why the SuperCharger script works on all roms the same way... it puts apps in their place so that the OS will run in a predetermined and predictable fashion and therefore the lowmemorykiller settings will have the exact effect that the user expects.
So no, I'm not offended.

I check it out time to time.
Cronos is good and feeyo is cool but lack of updates, v1.2 had issues plus I needed to test other roms.
Btw the memory managent on cm7 and cronos mimics my strategy from v5 anyway - which was to give the laubcher its own OOM grouping/slot but everything else is just weirdly placed far down the list so still not as good as v5.
Tthen V6 simply out does v5 hands down.

Well, here's an odd question.
I really want to drain my battery, preferably quite fast. At the moment I've got it on full brightness, no screen timeout, running a particle simulator, but it's dropping quite slowly. I want my battery to feel the burn! Are there any apps that people would suggest to absolutely kill my battery?
I'm actually considering writing an app that kills CPU, accesses the net, attempts to connect to GPS etc etc... Could make my life easier.

Nope, I'm talking heavy duty, 20% per half hour drain.
load maps in the background..turn gps data wifi..livewallpaper..play music while playing games.. wala! battery drain so fast..
Just turn everything on and play with mmorpg like pocket legend with 3G connection. I think you Will drain from full to empty in about 2 hours

Leave camcorder running, gps on, wifi, everything you can imagine,
then leave it, If the phone wont sleep, the apps should stay running, unless RAM gets low

You havent have had utilize the full charge and recharge cycles of your battery and now your whining already.. Man, give your Note a week or two and your battery life will be okay.

If you we're using a non android device e.g. Symbian or etc. Then my reaction to your complains (of your Note) is justifiable. Symbian for the fact has always been known to be very good or decent in terms of battery life.
Now android OS, is known throughout (irregardless what smartphone/tablet you have) to have the AOS bug. It is a bug where there's some sort of a battery leak and hencefort most android users tend to root their phones so that they can stop background stock applications from running in the background. The births of custom ROMS and Kernels have given some tremendous wonders also especially on phone's UI and more so on battery management.
Again. Stop complaining and go down root your phone and install battery saving apps or custom ROMs. It's all over the thread anyway.
The sooner you customise your phone to your heart's content, the better you can appreciate it's full potentials.

Moreover I can not use custom rom. because they r not good as well as stock rom. ALl of them have some problems. But I can change my kernel.
to get battery life you either
a) dont use your phone or
b) get information to use your phone more wisely
So..
a) download a battery monitor.. there are a bunch recommended..
b) read the other 200 threads on battery life and dont start another one. Each and every question has been asked and answered ad nauseum
while you are figuring out root, and task killers, here are a few easy tips to help..particularly when you are putting the phone down for a while
apps>task manager>active apps> CLOSE ALL
apps>task manager> RAM> CLEAR MEMORY
settings>applications>running services> review and shut down apps/games that may be running in background (and that are not critical)
Again.... RESEARCH the forum.. the answers are already here. and you should read and post in existing threads

You could also have a defective battery.
On my iPhone 4, my first of 4 that were faulty, battery life depleted in less than 12 hours of STANDBY only on wifi, nothing syncing. Only being on. Battery life was so bad.
It's not uncommon to get a dud battery sometimes.
Try doing a complete restore, stock EVERYTHING, don't push anything (except email, cal, and contacts, you know, the basics) and see if you're having the same results. If on a fresh, stock, install you're having the same issues, then you've got a defective unit and/or battery.

There are quite decent custom roms for the Note. I have tried many gingerbread versions (Chracks, rocketrom, cassies etc) currently on chrack's v18 small (LC1) with speedmod latest kernel.
I have not faced performance issues on this. But each user is different so u r the boss.
Best give the custom kernels a try for now. If u find the battery life better then ur problem is solved. The advantage of custom rom is that so much useless bloatware in the stock is removed for better space mgt & performance.

dude, you are ridiculing some of the well known devs who have made custom ROMS for all to appreciate and use. IF there was and is a problem on a particular custom ROM, it is or might be cause indirectly on the user itself, on what apps he/she insatalled on his phone. Surely you cannot generalize all custom ROMS have problems do you? if all have problems, the devs have some new revisions to fix those bugs and in no time at all your Note would be in tip-top shape again.
If as what you say, Custom Roms have problems.... then why the heck most people I know have used them and have big wide grin on their face to show off what they have and even posting a copy of their latest ROM pictures here... not to mentioned in YouTube as well.

I had the same issues but only after the update done on ICS.
I have over 140 different application and nearly all of them have been purchased.
What happens is that, when you are not using your phone it should go to "deep sleep". This allows your phone not to run any application and merely use any battery. Your problem probably come from somewhere in your setting an automatic update. That drains a lot....
I downloaded different application hoping that it would work out such as Juice Defender, watch dog and many others. After lots of research, I found out that it is not good for your phone to have an auto killer app or even an application that modifies the functions of other applications.
So I downloaded battery spy and cpu spy on "google play" and followed the instructions.
I needed a deeper analytic application "Kernel" and this was THE application that allowed my phone to go from 6-8 hour to 28 hours.
"Better battery stats", it's not free but was really worth the spending.
Google play chronological download
1) watch dog
2) battery spy
3) cpu spy
4) better battery stats

I keep switching my cellphone off while not using, and same goes for wifi. Using it as a secondary phone as well. It lasts only 4-6 hours.. :S I keep closing background apps, and kill app once im done with it..
Also be aware that in areas with bad network strenght, the GNote really suffers.
I normally have no complains (0,6-1,5% battery usage per hour) but where I am now, the GNote really works hard to keep the connection and my consumption easily goes to 4-6% in deep sleep and 15-20% when using it...

If you like stock samsung looks try CleaNote 3.10 , very good n battery life , I get around one day backup with heavy usage and 2 days plus with moderate usage .
If like pure google , then try cm9 , very stable and quite good on battery back up .
And if you dont use 3g or 3.5 g or any such networks then select GSM only or use 2g networks only ( Settings -> under wireless and connectivity , More -> Mobile Networks )
Also keep your display brightness to minimum , control the brightness manually instead of auto brightness .
Turn off auto sync ( big advantage over battery ) .
Scan for running apps and cached apps and force stop the ones which you dont use .
Use titanium back up and freeze some of the bloatwares ( stock samsung apps ) or uninstall them , like readers hub , mydiary , they are **** .
And dont use task killers , they drain your battery . they may clear rom but some apps restart automatically and that needs more juice than running those apps . Hope all these suggestions help . From my experience with this phone

I didnt know that, My signal is usually 10-40%. I have bad signal strenght at home.
my battery decreases 1% in around 5 minutes of use or something. Today it lasted me 10% on standby for around 8-10hours.

You need to purchase and install "better battery stats" and also install cpu spy (I'm assuming you're rooted) and use them to monitor your phone and battery in order to solve your issue. Google both and you'll find several good threads on xda about using and interpreting these apps, but if you get stuck post some screen shots from both and someone here can almost certainly help. There are a number of potential sources of such problems, generally rogue apps, and also a bug or two, but it is impossible to offer help without the details these apps would provide.

Thanks for that, i will install it. By the way i got the "battery widget" installed, which has gained popularity on the market.
Also im only using 9% of brightness of my phone.
I'm using a rooted stock 4.0.3 and I'm finding battery life its pretty good - better than unrooted GB was in fact. Simply freezing bloatware via titanium and limiting sync on some (not all) apps and services makes a gigantic difference. Design your phone around your own needs and you'll end up with an amazing device that you'll fall in love with all over again.

I switched to stock rom for trial purpose and still I got juz like barely 7 hours of juice....
with juz some files thru bluetooth and half an hour or so of texting....
so what could be causing the problem?

I'm not really an expert on this... but I'll try!
First, data - depending on how often your apps that use data refresh, it may be killing your battery because they are always updating in the background
Next, apps - depending on how many are open, and trying to retrieve info or a responce, this may be killing your battery life
Another, backlight brightness - I would say half brightness looks almost the same as full brightness, so turn that down too. Another thing you can do is make sure that your phone times out so the screen is always on and sucking the life out of your battery
Plus, bluetooth and wifi - turn those off when you aren't using them! They turn on in a couple of seconds so there is no use in just leaving them on and draining your battery.
Lastly, I dunno what "kik" is (the app running in the corner of the status bar) but it may be using battery too (probably not because it isn't in the list of the battery use so I don't think that's it.
Anyways, in short, possibly shut off the data if you don't always use it (you don't have to tho ), go into the settings of apps, and get the refresh rate at a longer period of time (so they aren't always using data), kill any open apps if you can with an app manager, turn down the brightness of backlight, change the time it takes to shut off the backlight, and shut off the bluetooth and wifi when you aren't using it.
Unfortunatley the battery life on the Ace is far from the best, if anything it's terrible, but other than that I have very few issues with the phone.

Running background processes is a major battery kill. I used to get 12h+ on 3G with Stocklite V6. Never used heavy apps though. Just Textplus, Opera Mini to check fb sometimes and WhatsApp whenever someone talked to me. Light usage.
How much the battery lasts depends on the user completely.

Another, backlight brightness - I would say half brightness looks almost the same as full brightness, so turn that down too. Another thing you can do is make sure that your phone times out so the screen is always on and sucking the life out of your battery
Plus, bluetooth and wifi - turn those off when you aren't using them! They turn on in a couple of seconds so there is no use in just leaving them on and draining your battery.
Lastly, I dunno what "kik" is (the app running in the corner of the status bar) but it may be using battery too (probably not because it isn't in the list of the battery use so I don't think that's it.
Anyways, in short, possibly shut off the data if you don't always use it (you don't have to tho ), go into the settings of apps, and get the refresh rate at a longer period of time (so they aren't always using data), kill any open apps if you can with an app manager, turn down the brightness of backlight, change the time it takes to shut off the backlight, and shut off the bluetooth and wifi when you aren't using it.

First of all thnx for taking this much time out....
It's rlly helpful...
but
1. My data usage is barely 10 mb per day....
and no wifi and mearge usage of bluetooth....
2. Background apps;
only adw and one or two others...
and Kik is juz like whatsapp, a messaging app....
and it's quite lightweight, been using it since uite some time...
3. Backlight is at an always 25% and screen timeout 30 secs....
so juz wanna know if there's a possibility of some hardware fault......
coz I've tried most things possible to take out the software fault if any....

Wait, i just forgot!...
I get this too sometimes, but what might help is if you reset your battery stats! I have to do this too because I found that after a half an hour after unplugging my phone with no use I lost 10% battery life, for no apparant reason. Search in the Play Store "BatteryCalibration". All you have to do is charge your phone to 100%, and tap the button . You usually have to do this after flashing a new ROM, because you might not flash it at 100% battery life and the stats go from there. So I would say, try it and see what happens.
Now... If not... The only other suggestion I have is if you find a battery booster app such as "Juice Defender" from the Play Store. I tried using it, but didn't see a huge difference (I don't have data, so I just keep it off), probably because I barely use my phone. I've also heard some thing about a script called "v6 Super Charger" (I've only heard of it, please search it if you want to know more because I sure don't ). Aparantly it boosts battery as well, but no promises haha.
If you are really desperate for better battery life, I would say switch to 2g service in the settings. Other than that.... I'm out for now
Hopefully this might help you out as well, but other than that the Ace is not well known for a good battery. But that's a mid range phone for you (but the Ace ain't no slouch either)

Ok, so after looking around a little, I found a very interesting thread about Lithium-Ion batteries! Really cool and really worth the read! I learned quite a bit. Hopefully this answers any additional questions that I wasn't able to answer!

Try also eliminating any widgets or live wallpapers that you may have running. These might keep the processor running at a higher speed then neccessary, but no promises.... Plus I already mentioned closing apps you don't need (so this is pretty much the same woops) and you might have done it already.
The biggest thing to remeber is that you have to sacrifice performance for the best battery life. This may go as far as underclocking your maximum CPU speed, but this might cause some lagging especially at the startup. I think that this should be a last resort to be honest, because you still want to use a phone, and not a laggy device that you are trying to conserve as much battery as possible.
I also heard something about the motherboard possibly having a hardware fault in it causing excess discharge... But... I will need to do a little more searching to see if I can figure this out for you!
The other possiblity is that you get a power bank... But that just adds to what you have to pack around, so this is probably another last resort, but it's all up to you.

I tried battery stat reset at every charge to see if that helped....
but no friggin help...
Prolly it's the motherboard fault.....
coz I even reverted back to touchwiz launcher with juz icons and stock rom and now dat's juz the limit...
the phone looks like a crippled giant....
capable of everything but is chained by the bloody harware problem...
gonna give it to the Samsung Service center....:/

Probably the best thing to do! Sorry I couldn't be any help to you, so it's probably best if you do that. I love my Ace, but the battery just has to hold it back

Guys i face the same problem. My battery stays only for 1 to 2 hour. I tried wiping battery stats, full discharge and charge but of on use

whenever i use my phone while charging it is so slow and the cpu goes to 1000mhz its not even useable no matter what i try to do it does not stick i never changed the temp settings there is no option for that and the cpu only reaches 120f i dont know what to do it never did this before and now it does thank you

Unless there are some apps in the background going crazy i`d say it may be hardware related and you should claim warranty. Install GSam battery monitor (or similar app) and CPU Spy for more info mate about whats going on on your phone. Never xperience this issue you discribe.

not that i can remember just started doing this about a week ago im going to put it back to stock and see if it fixes it
