as of now the only difference between dev edition and regular edition is the 64 gb? (assuming i unlock the bootloader myself)
also can anyone confirm if the differences between US/EU/ASIA models in the radio bands is due to different hardware or to software limitations?
more to the point, if i buy the europeane model, could i be able to flash the asian radio to get the 850 mhz 3g band?
pls can anyone answer :fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed: especially the second Q.
i searched the forums but havn't found an answer
There's no way to do that so far...

don't think so but it is very easy, you only need to flash the proper radio.zip into recovery and you're done..

It won't work. Check the international forum of HTC One here at xda. There are already countless people flashing a EU variant radio on their AT&T, T-Mobile & Asian variants HTC One yet the frequencies still remain the same.
thanks.
I really wish that htc had made it easier to get a hold of this device. most people can't get the 64gb developer's as it's obtainable only in the u.s.
and all the other editions are currently very scarce, and hard to find. and even if you find one, it may not work proparly with your carrier. not to mention that if you travel alot this device won't do because of the different bands in each country.
i appolagize for the rant, but it's really frustuating, i really wanted to buy the htc one.

The Dev edition is only needed in the US.
Which phones support more frequency bands than the One?

Does anyone knows if is possible to unlock a Droid 4 or to buy an unlocked one? I am in Venezuela and I want one of those phones. Thanks in advanced.
This is pretty much the same as http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1537658
Right now, no it is not possible to get the Droid 4 unlocked as the GSM radio is not enabled and thus it is only running on Verizon CDMA/LTE bands. Hopefully with a firmware update Verizon will enable the rest of the radios in the device.
Thank you blpw , it is very nice to know it, I will wating for any update from Motorola/Verizon
How long does it usually take to get this update so we can use this phone overseas on our networks? I really want the Droid 4 and I have no idea how long new phones take to be "unlocked" for use at other countries. But when it does Im sure this device will make a killing for the seller on ebay

There is no information available to tell how long it will take. This is new territory, having an LTE phone from Verizon that is theoretically global capable. All previous VZW global phones were 3G and worked everywhere out of the box.
I have read that Verizon will enable GSM roaming for this phone with an firmware upgrade by the first half of the year.
Can firmware update change the frequency? I read this at a forum
So the phone is pointless to wait for if they ever do release that firmware update?
A firmware update can not add frequency compatibility to a phone, it is a hardware limitation.

You can have the hardware but without the properly software you have nothing. The same thing happened with the Xyboard from Verizon. Look at google: "Software update gives the Motorola Droid Xyboard 8.2 global roaming capabilities"
awww now I dont know if I should just get the HTC mytouch slide 4 or wait for the Droid, Ill be spewing if they dont release this global roaming software, I dont understand this frequency stuff and I still dont really know what Australia should require much, I know some of the stats but Ill be peaking if the Droid never gets this software then I wait for nothing.

The dev version should since it's fully unlocked. From what I've read all the Americas versions should have the same radios, it's just a matter of which ones are unlocked. If I'm wrong through the community will quickly correct me

hi my father got me a brand new htc one from europe from a shop and i wanted to know if there is a way to make sure its the real deal or if it is a European model or an american model?
if anyone can help me with this im kinda of new to android phones
is it possible to know from the imea of the phone?
Hardware-wise there's only one real HTC One, and then there's the Chinese copy with dual SIM and removable backside. The difference is in the device CID which restrict you from installing any RUU on it. However the only problem I can see you facing would be the APN settings, if your cell operator APN values is not in the rom you will have to type them in yourself.

Post pictures.

I have the same problem. I checked under the "beats" logo and I've found the following PN07210 but no "801e" or something like it.
Can anyone help us with that? Don't know how to check the mid
Turn off the phone. Power it back on and hold volume down and power. It'll throw you into HBoot. If its the normal Android recovery you have a problem. If its the white screen with Pink lettering then you should be good.

still cant find it isnt there another way to identify the model when i go into model name all i see written is htc one so not sure if its the american variant.
Take a look at the back of your phone. Below the "beats" logo. Check for a code like: PN07... or 801(e or n)
After finding it, go to the second thread I posted before and check on the image posted there which version is yours.
yes got it, it says pnpno7120 is there a difference between the usa or European one?
regarding updates and such
and is there still a way to know if its the american variant?
PN07120 is the american version.
The main diff is the radio frequency bands.
European version: 4G LTE - 2600MHz
American: AT&T and unbranded: 700MHz
T-mobile: 700MHz
Regarding updates the american may have some delay in updates but if it's the unbranded it may not take long, the branded versions may take a while. But u can also install european roms on them.

I got a fake HTC One claiming to be an 801e too, I was looking for a secondhand one to buy. Please what can I flash it with to be rid of all the fakery on it? It doesnt respond to fastboot commands, but it does to adb. I just need to get the "Shenzen" crapola off of it. I've eaten my humble pie and want to make the most of a bad situation.
Any help would be welcome.

You can't flash anything for the HTC One on your fake phone. Your best option is to return it or live with the fact the you have been scammed.

I am looking at getting a M7 as a media player. I like the unlocked bootloader over the old S4 that I will end up selling. I dont go crazy with custom ROMs but id like a good fast ROM, maybe CM.
Question is, which is the best variant of the device for custom roms. specifically the sprint variant seems to be the cheapest because the lock out ESN often. is there any limitations to the sprint variations that mean i need to spend more?

You need to take a look at each variant to see which works best for you. Sprint & Verizon variants are CDMA and the rest are GSM. GSM phones are far more prevalent internationally than CDMA and are or can be easier to customize thus more options. Your call!

Im refering to mod-ability. I will not be using this as a phone so I dont care about the radio. Like for the G3, verizon has a locked bootloader but t-mobile is unlocked.
Is there an issue flashing CMDA roms to the sprint variant if phone is not needed?

You should only flash ROMs that are compatible with your variant. The CDMA phones have different partition tables than their GSM variants. This could cause the phone not to operate. So, if you have a Sprint phone then only put ROMs that are compatible with the Sprint variant. There is a separate forum for the Sprint & Verizon variants.

I'm not a marketing guru but Sprint has limited coverage as a phone and limited support from custom tweakers, while the GSM phones are plentiful and can be used in more locations. Bottom line, if the it meets your needs then get the Sprint variant but should you need it as a phone down the line remember you have very limited options.
Does it matter with whom the carrier is from?
can they be flashed or rooted?
Currently there's a procedure to unlock boot loader for all models *except* t mobile. The procedure isn't simple though. Look in rom/devs sub forum.

Alright thank you
does it matter if I buy a AT&T version or Sprint Version?
Would it affect performance or what bands I can connect to?

That I don't know. I got a Sprint model and it seems to work fine with att, though I've been stuck at home like everybody else so I haven't really tested the network. The Sprint model is on Android 9. I don't know what the situation is on att.
Sprint does load the phone with a bunch of bloat and spam ware, most of which you can disable. I imagine att does the same. I'd just buy what is available at lowest price.

from what I was told you could just flash the firmware on it to the US unlocked and that would allow more band usage?
