[Q] i9000 with CM10.1 bad WIFI and 3g signal - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've tried changing kernels but that doesn't do anything. Is there a different firmware/modem I can install onto this phone. I live in New Zealand so I'm guessing the modem that's on it now isn't suited for here. Can I just install a modem from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1102881 ? or will that not work with CM10.1?
Hopefully I can get it sorted before I decide to sell this thing.
Cheers

Hey,
Strange, whereabouts in NZ are you? I'm in Auckland and I've had no problems befoe running CM10.1 in terms of my Wifi and 3G signal.
I think you should be able to flash in a different modem- I think most people recommend JVU not only because its a good modem but also because apparently it uses less battery.
From what I've heard you can flash in a different modem but I'm not sure.

I live in the Wellington region. I'm on 2degrees so that doesn't help so much since their 3g sucks. But yeah it's weird I can't even hold a Viber call on my wifi without it cutting out. Whereas on my Ideos x5 it was fine. I guess I might have to go back to gingerbread if I can't get a good modem :/

Thanks to the hard landlord great !

[Q] How to check modem?

How do I check what modem my Captivate is running? I'm pretty new to the Android community so I don't really know much outside of how to install roms.
Go to settings, then scroll down to "about phone", then find the baseband...it's the last three characters...ie: JL4

Thanks for answering to this >2,5 years old question!
No, it's not best to update to the latest version. Different modems work best in different locations.

And using a Modem for another device in the line(Vibrant, i9000, 850mhz i9000, Nexus S, etc...) can be beneficial as well. The i896 Modem have both the Audience Chip and HSUPA, but nobody made a kernel that supported it, so it died out. The modem that came with Cyanogenmod is JL6 I'm pretty sure, which came from a 850mhz i9000, but branded Vibrant(T959)

Yes, one of the first sticky threads in Android Development forum:
【MODEMS】【100+ Captivate I897 ♦ I9000 ♦ CM7/MIUI ♦ ICS】+【Google Location Map】
Has no one got anything on SM-S260DL, this device is great and can really use some support. Please anyone if your able to create a CF Auto Root for SM-S260DL that would be great. I don't understand why I can't find anything for this phone, is there an easy way to network unlock SM-S260DL as well? Any info would be great please guys, I have the stock firmware in case anything goes wrong.

Best Vodafone Modem

Hi, I just want to know if you could suggest me the better Modem for my Captivate (SGH-i897) with Vodafone carrier. I live in Italy and my phone got CM9 ROM. Thanks in advance!
That depends on area, just flash a few and see which one works best for YOU
Mordems domeds
Just see in Galaxy S section. Europe likes 850MHz band, so any modem defaulting to that should work good.

Hi, I didn't find this thread in Galaxy S I9000 section
If you are on CM9 then look at what stock rom i9000 uses for vodafone Italy and either check if you can find it in the modem list, or download the whole rom package and look for the modem.bin. http://samfirmware.com/ is a good place to start looking.

Hi, I've flashed with Odin this Modem: MODEM_I9000XXJVU_REV_00_CL1092175.tar and now my phone shows "NO SIGNAL", but if I use an apk called "Network Signal Info", it says that there is an 85% of signal... what's wrong?? T_T
You can't use ODIN on AOSP (cm9). You need to take out the modem.bin and replace it with the one in a Cyanogenmod modem zip.
I've flashed copying modem written before in the cm9 build 17 zip, but the results aren't the same.... It works but the percentage isn't 85 like in picture posted before. Am I wrong or I should give up?
I've installed the bujv3 (I9000), and I think it's the better one atm... thanks anyway...
EDIT
I'm using "TLJL3" and ATM it's perfect

[Q] Upgrading to ICS has lost me my signal :(

Hi,
I have a Galaxy S GT-i9000 on Orange, UK. I've only had it a week because I bought it off my brother. I upgraded to ICS 4.0.3 and although it seems fine, there is no signal at all, EVER. Although it get's wireless Internet! And the SIM isn't damaged in any way, so it is definitely a software issue. The Internet is a bit strange, because it is coming from my network, not Wi-Fi (it's off, as is bluetooth).
I'm liking ICS, but obviously I need a signal. It was easy to upgrade, I just booted from the zip I placed in the bootloader. But I can't downgrade the same way. I've tried looking for old Gingerbread files, but can't find any! All the Depositfiles.com links are dead. So, ideally I would like to stick to ICS and find a signal fix, failing that I guess it's a downgrade that I need?
Or should I upgrade to Jellybean?
I couldn't find anything on people having similar problems with network loss, but I'm 99.99% certain it is the software causing the issue.
Thanks for reading.

I'm downloading DarkyROM now, but it's going to take 2 hours! Is this the right way to flash a modem? I've not done it before.
Hi
I had a similar problem on my old SGSI. I flashed an ics rom (don't remeber the name) and everything worked apart from the network so no phone calls and no internet apart from with Wifi. Anyway i googled the problem and tried loads of different solutions. After flashing more roms i ended up with the DarkyROM_v11.0_black_edition with the 3.0.17-semaphore_ics_1.2.5s kernel.
This didn't help either. In a last minute test at the end of what felt like the longest day in my life i checked to find that i had damaged one of the contact pins that read the sim card. I bent it back and everything has worked since then. And it's worked well!
Thanks, it was the modem needed flashing! Very simple too I also downgraded to Gingerbread which is faster.
Thanks everyone :cyclops:

[Q] Data problem with my Note

Hi everyone, am new here, i decided to register on XDA after scrounging and searching of solution to my problem. All of my finds were disappointing and vague. So i finally joined up after going thru an intimidating XDA signup vid (one of the reasons i didnt wanna join in the first place). So here's the prob..
My N7000 (international) is bad at picking up signal, which forces the phone to go for Edge instead of H/H+/3g. I live in a country where 3g is supported. I could connect to 3g as well as having better connections (using the same simcard, as well same location) with my friends S3 and Ace 2 but not my Note So i figured maybe that theres probably something wrong with its hardware (?)
One other thing, if i set my network mode to WCDMA, the phone will have NO signal AT ALL. With GSM only, theres weak/moderate signal, same goes to (Auto Mode), which am guessing it'll only choose GSM.
My phone is running Philz Kernel. BurtRom JB XXLSZ. And ive also tried XXLSO (problem still exist)
Should i try flashing AOSP roms..maybe, flashing diffrent radios help? :/ mehh..i really dont know anymore..
Sorry, if my question seems long. And i genuinely believe that i needed to post a new thread to get a solution from the pros! thnx in advance..
flash the stock rom again and keep the stock kernel.. if you want to root then let me know.. i'll give u flashable zip to root with the stock kernel...

Sorry, i forgot to mention that, even when i was on stock kernel and stock rom, the problem was already there, and i thought rooting and flashing might solve it but it didnt :/..
which country/carrier are you on? Maybe there's someone on the same carrier as you and might have workarounds or a solution

as JJ said, modems are not connected to the ROM itself, but to the region you are in (at least it should work like that).
Go to the Modems thread in the General Section and try out different once (you can flash them via CWM). Maybe start with the modems coming from your region as they "should" work the best.
The modem eating more battery life when im turning on wifi ? You can edit the parameters in system\build.prop “wifi.supplicant_scan_interval=180”
If there's not this ,add it .
Thanks
