Best Vodafone Modem - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I just want to know if you could suggest me the better Modem for my Captivate (SGH-i897) with Vodafone carrier. I live in Italy and my phone got CM9 ROM. Thanks in advance!

That depends on area, just flash a few and see which one works best for YOU

Mordems domeds
Just see in Galaxy S section. Europe likes 850MHz band, so any modem defaulting to that should work good.

Hi, I didn't find this thread in Galaxy S I9000 section

If you are on CM9 then look at what stock rom i9000 uses for vodafone Italy and either check if you can find it in the modem list, or download the whole rom package and look for the modem.bin. http://samfirmware.com/ is a good place to start looking.

Hi, I've flashed with Odin this Modem: MODEM_I9000XXJVU_REV_00_CL1092175.tar and now my phone shows "NO SIGNAL", but if I use an apk called "Network Signal Info", it says that there is an 85% of signal... what's wrong?? T_T

You can't use ODIN on AOSP (cm9). You need to take out the modem.bin and replace it with the one in a Cyanogenmod modem zip.

I've flashed copying modem written before in the cm9 build 17 zip, but the results aren't the same.... It works but the percentage isn't 85 like in picture posted before. Am I wrong or I should give up?

I've installed the bujv3 (I9000), and I think it's the better one atm... thanks anyway...
EDIT
I'm using "TLJL3" and ATM it's perfect

i got a bell i9000m ugjk4 froyo... now how do i know what roms will work on my phone without messin it up... like what exactly does the ugjk4 mean? can i put different ones on my phone? sorry im a newb at this lol
Hey,
That "ugjk4" is the current firmware version that your are using.
The Bell i9000m is compatible with most roms for the i9000 international and its compatibility (or incompatibility for that matter) is usually discussed in the first post that details the information about the rom.
If you every do flash a rom that is incompatible go to "samfirmwares" and download UGJK4 from their site and reflash through odin.
Let me know if I did not answer your question as you were a little vague.
Happy Modding,
Alex
Thanks for answering... I just didnt understand if it was ok to put like jpu or jpo or whatever other ones. . Thanks alot for the help

He isnt talking about flashing modem or CSC?
Also, you will notice I told him to look at the OP for the ROM he is interested in BEFORE he flashes for compatibility issues. I did not say that every ROM will work ok.

I understand what you're saying and have some questions if you don't mind. I've been wracking my brain over searches but haven't come across anything that lays it out clearly.
By way of example, I'm running JPU on my i9000M which changed my product code to "Nordic" and my csc/modem accordingly (which is what I'd expect given that JPU isn't a Canadian firmware). I've since flashed a Canadian modem, changed my product code back to BMC (Bell Canada) and enabled the 850 band. Are there any other changes to be concerned with/aware of given the mixing of pda/phone/csc?
Many thanks in advance.

[Q] How to check modem?

How do I check what modem my Captivate is running? I'm pretty new to the Android community so I don't really know much outside of how to install roms.
Go to settings, then scroll down to "about phone", then find the baseband...it's the last three characters...ie: JL4

And using a Modem for another device in the line(Vibrant, i9000, 850mhz i9000, Nexus S, etc...) can be beneficial as well. The i896 Modem have both the Audience Chip and HSUPA, but nobody made a kernel that supported it, so it died out. The modem that came with Cyanogenmod is JL6 I'm pretty sure, which came from a 850mhz i9000, but branded Vibrant(T959)

Has no one got anything on SM-S260DL, this device is great and can really use some support. Please anyone if your able to create a CF Auto Root for SM-S260DL that would be great. I don't understand why I can't find anything for this phone, is there an easy way to network unlock SM-S260DL as well? Any info would be great please guys, I have the stock firmware in case anything goes wrong.

Israeli Galaxy S Owners

There seem to be more and more of us appearing in XDA, and on the streets of Tel Aviv the Galaxy S is appearing almost as often as the iPhone these days...so perhaps it is time for an Israeli thread (similar to the Indian one) where we can share tips and experiences dealing with Pelephone, Cellcom and Orange.
Post and say hello...hopefully we will see 2.3.3 officially here soon so exciting times ahead.
If you are looking for something new to try while we wait, Simone101's Simply Galaxy ROM, based on 2.2.1 features a multi CSC just for Israeli users, so check it out. Always good to support devs who support our own little corner of the Android community.
Haide!

I did, they just have the Pelephone firmware as a single tar. All I want is the modem.
the pelephone tar there is not working for me :S....
extract from the tar the modem.bin file
go to romkitchen make an update.zip that have just modem...
paste the modem from the tar to the folder and compress it to zip and flash it through CWM...
and i'm not sure that will help you...

Hmm..that sounds reasonable. If I flash it and it is a bum file in the end, can I just reflash another modem afterwards?
ofcourse... first make a backup...
if you try the a modem from the rom kitchen than change the modem.bin inside and flash it again... just for checking...
i didn't try to change the modem.bin but I flashed modem that i downloaded from the romkitchen...

Some custom ROMS are beginning to appear got 2.3.3, and of course the leaked pre-final stock, but no sign of the official release by Samsung. The new rumor is mid april, maybe.
All I know is I am going to stay with 2.2.1 until the official rom is released, has had time to mature and been put through it's paces by the XDA devs.
Any Israeli user get a kies update yet?

Everyone Having Baseband Problems, Look Here.

If Anyone asks anything about Baseband, send them here.

Get the LGP970_V30B_00euro_CP.fls or whatever baseband you want/need , its ~8 mb and Smartflash tool , put them together in the same folder.
Open Smartflash tool, shutdown phone , hold vol+ and plug usb .
In Smartflash tool under ROM copy D/L tab select CP bin (browse button) , select the baseband you downloaded and press start , phone should reboot after its finished with no data wiped but do a backup of your data before doing this just in case.
Good luck

Don't really know but I would use the ku5900 baseband even then the only one I know is the korean v30i.
Well I hope somebody knows it for sure, I just wanted to say that I first flashed the baseband from N00BY and I found out that it is even better with CM10 and I even had Zeus 7.06 on my OB with the new baseband and there was absolutly np.
BTW baseband is NOT stored with a nandroid, because I flashed the new baseband and after that I went back to a older CM10 nandroid and had a different baseband than a few weeks ago, it even said V30b baseband.
Hi all
Tried flashing the baseband posted in huexx's thread and this one
The process works fine and says completed
But when I go to settings/about/baseband it shows xmm6160
Is this correct?
I'm not sure if this right, can someone please check there's and let me know what theirs is or what mine should be?
Thanks
It's okay, just check gps/call/sms works flawlessly....
ok cool thanks wasnt sure

It is possible that you wont have any problems with that...
Hi all, long time lurker, first time poster. There's a lot of great resources on this forum that have been very useful to me and I really appreciate it. Anyways I'm using Marvel v11 (which is great in every other respect btw, thanks @tantrums) on my P970 and meant to post to the thread there but it seems like my postcount is too low for that still. Anyways I'm having issues connecting to the data network and GPS of my carrier and I figure it might have something to do with the baseband.
I had a look in the settings and it shows the software version as 30b-EUR (screenshots attached). My carrier's stock firmware is listed on the lg-phone-firmware page (sorry can't post the link) as 30F. My first thought was that it might have something to do with the fact that I'm in Canada? So I downloaded my carrier's stock .kdz, converted it to .fls/.bin, and flashed successfully in SFT. I know the new baseband is on there because the Marvel one is named differently (1035.23_20110407). But I still have the same problem: no connection to mobile data or to GPS satellites.
I've seen quite a few posts (including n00by's) saying that all basebands are the same. Am I barking up the wrong tree here? Or is there something I might have overlooked?

Have you verified that the APNs are correct for your carrier? They can change over time by carrier. Some folks forget to set them on a fresh flash (I certainly have). Even a letter or number off can screw things up.
Can anyone get mirror links?
I can't download from any of those, can you confirm it's not just me?
Thanks

[Q] i9000 with CM10.1 bad WIFI and 3g signal

I've tried changing kernels but that doesn't do anything. Is there a different firmware/modem I can install onto this phone. I live in New Zealand so I'm guessing the modem that's on it now isn't suited for here. Can I just install a modem from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1102881 ? or will that not work with CM10.1?
Hopefully I can get it sorted before I decide to sell this thing.
Cheers
Hey,
Strange, whereabouts in NZ are you? I'm in Auckland and I've had no problems befoe running CM10.1 in terms of my Wifi and 3G signal.
I think you should be able to flash in a different modem- I think most people recommend JVU not only because its a good modem but also because apparently it uses less battery.
From what I've heard you can flash in a different modem but I'm not sure.

I live in the Wellington region. I'm on 2degrees so that doesn't help so much since their 3g sucks. But yeah it's weird I can't even hold a Viber call on my wifi without it cutting out. Whereas on my Ideos x5 it was fine. I guess I might have to go back to gingerbread if I can't get a good modem :/
