So I just got my Nook HD+, rooted it, installed a few things, but for the most part it is still stock-ish...
I'm wondering if there is a way to change the stock email link at the bottom of the home screen to open GMail instead of the Email app.
Any thoughts?

I was hoping to do exactly the same thing. It seems like a logical request as google apps are now officially supported. If you do find anything I'd be interested too

How do I remove a gmail account?
I'd be interested in this to. I rooted an NC using my gmail account...but now I'd like to remove that one and just use a different one.
I have successfully added that other gmail, so how do I remove the original?
Thanks!
Go into the settings/accounts menu in Gmail. Create another account (it can even be a duplicate of this account if you like). Once this is done a long press down on the other account will give you the option to remove it.
Thanks! I'll give that a shot.

Didn't work for me. I created another account, so now 2 are listed. Tapping the menu button at the bottom, I get a 2 rows of 3 options (Refresh, Compose, Accounts, View labels, Search, Settings).
I tap "Accounts" and the screen displays the 2 accounts that are now on the NC, with an option to "Add account" down at the bottom. If I press the Menu button here, that bottom tab changes to "Account Settings" but when I press that, the NC appears to do a soft reset.
Am I missing something? Or should I restore and root again?
Thanks!
I get the same thing here.
I have two GMail accounts listed and cannot remove either.
If I press and hold on an account on the "Add Accounts" page, nothing happens. Actually, no matter how long I "hold", when I release, I end up going to the inbox for the selected account.
Further, just like madman390, if I press the Menu button and bring up the bar that only has "Account Settings", if I select "Account Settings", my NC does a reboot of sorts (it doesn't crash back to the home screen and it doesn't go all the way back to a power-up screen, it goes to the "Nook Color" animation part of start-up).
I have the same issues as everyone here. I am giving the nook as a gift to someone else and i need to remove the accounts i used to get the market working. Could someone figure this out? Thx

Ok so I did a little messing around in the /data/ folder and I found the way to do it. You should leave one Gmail account at the end so you don't screw up the market. What you do is go into /data/system/ and edit accounts.db with an editor of your choice. You can even do it straight on the device through root explorer and the sqlite editor it requires. Open the file and delete the accounts you want to delete and then close it. I did a reboot after and the accounts disappeared from Gmail and YouTube and Gtalk. Gtalk now won't launch if you deleted the main account so you need to go into youtube, sign in again, then re-add the account in gmail and possibly Gtalk if it asks again. I had to do that a couple of times to get it to work, but now everything works. I also updated to the new market after thanks to another post

Well, I tried to follow your suggestion and it screwed up my NC where it would loop on the NOOK COLOR boot screen (Autonooter'd). I had to do the 8 reboots to get back to a useable state.

Thats interesting it worked for me without any trouble. The only problem that resulted that I see now is that it did remove all accounts and the everything worked again, but the market now refuses to download anything. I'm sorry it messed your nook up, maybe it only works if you used an older version of autonooter. Does anyone know how to make the market start downloads instead of be eternally stuck on "Starting download"? It is possible that you might need to look around your /data/ folder for xml files and more databases and change everything to the email you would like to use as a main email or maybe you just edited your db file incorrectly.
I always wonder about these posts, and if they are the people selling rooted nooks on ebay, for a profit. There seems to be more and more people selling them on there these days.
any update on this? I'd like to backup a ROM and replicate my setup, do a basic root to a friends nook, then restore with my backup, then setup his gmail. Kinda strange we are bound to the whole thing by an email address..
If not.. then people making ROMs could maybe make like: 1.1FW/1.1OC/Zeam/Gaaps/ROM manager/Astro/Titanium/NC Tools/XDA. you know.. all the stuff we are going to do anyway.ROMs
ops. double post.
No Solution
Has anyone found a solution to this...an easy one?
Hello All. Am I the only one that thinks the built-in Samsung e-mail app is garbage? I have tried the ATT stock ROM's, as well as custom (right now I'm on Cognition), and the mail app is always the same. I hate the color scheme (blue on black), and it can't be changed. I prefer the default white background on most phone's inboxes. I also hate that all of my Exchange folders are jumbled together at the top of the screen. It makes it impossible to use. Most Android phones that I've seen (ie. the Incredible) only show the Inbox but let you hit Menu to choose another folder. I would definitely prefer this. I've also tried 3rd party apps such as Touchdown and Improved Mail, but don't like them. Bottom line, does anyone know if the Incredible's email app, or one from another phone can be moved over to the Galaxy and work properly? Or is there a way to customize the built-in app that I'm not aware of. Thanks!
Nope - was going to say use Touchdown
Yea I wasn't a big fan of the Touchdown app. I know that people are using an apk from another ROM (I think the Galaxy tab?), and loving it. But there were some issues with the usage. Anyone else have any ideas?
K-9?
10char
Yea I tried that but could never get it to work. I would always get a 404 error when trying to set up the account.
k9 works for me but setting up exchange is complicated. I was working well until the last release. Then I could not send emails. I reverted back to the previous version via Titanium Backup.
Tab Email is nice but no html for exchange 2003.
Improved Email works too but still had not support for Exchange 2003.
Stock email lacked html support also.
You might guess what my criteria is
while testing a rom from the I9000 forum, Darkyy's Doc 5.4, 5.5 and 6 I noticed the email client had support for html with exchange 2003.
What ever you decide on back it up. Titanium will restore your signature and accounts. Also a backup is good incase you goof and the email.apk is the same name. SQG Tools may restore the store for you. It also contains the tab version.
K9 for all of my personal email accounts and touchdown for the corporate stuff on exchange
Does Darky's rom email.apk have a better interface? (ie. not blue text on a black background, and no tabbed folders jumbled at the top of the screen)

I just got done using that, or really not being able to use it. I could send emails from it, but it wouldn't sync my inbox, but it sync anything older than 3 weeks stuff in sent mail. Switched back to stock because I don't have that many folders I ever use besides in/out and sent.
We need someone super talented to fix the galaxy tab one, it is pretty much exactly what you are looking for

nope, I am using that ROM now and it is the same color scheme (black bkgnd) I also hate all email apps, and that is the only thing I like the iphone for
The default rooted Email app worked great the first few days after rooting but now it just kicks me back to my email listing if I attempt to open any of the actual emails.
I installed Touchdown email as a test and it exhibit same behavor - Email shows up fine, syncs fine but when I tap an email to open it I'm right back to the emails listing again.
I've perused various forums with no success... Any ideas?

I had the same problem. So I copied over the email.apk, calendar.apk, and calendarprovers.apk from my Samsung moment 2.1 phone to the nook and it has been working.
Could you post a copy of your working Email.apk? I'm having the same problem with my exchange account and couldn't for the life of me get k9 mail to work.
Ended up getting a mostly working workaround by setting mail to check only every half hour and only saving 3 days worth of messages. My guess was that it had something to do with the fact that the default client downloads everything including large attachments.

You need to copy it over to the /system/app/ folder and make sure it has the same permissions of the other apks there. Then reboot. It should work. It wasn't ment to be installed manually

Worked great, I can now open emails. I wasn't aware that particular .apk's installed different ways. I'm assuming that's a "system app" type thing compared to "market" apps?
Thanks for your help!

Yep, system apps I guess are not signed with a certificate since they are system apps. All other apks have to be signed.
When I used my (stock) Nook Color for the very first time, I set up my wifi and got on the Internet. Then I went to www.mail.yahoo.com to try to access my e-mail.
I was greeted with a page asking me if I wanted to install a Yahoo mail app. Not thinking, I clicked no and proceeded to access my mail the old way -- typing my user name and password in the boxes.
But now I realize this is the tedious way of doing things. But when I try to locate that Yahoo mail app page, I can't find it.
Meanwhile, will that app work on a stock Nook Color? Or was that page showing up just a fluke?
Thanks.
You cannot install any apps on a stock NC.

I rooted my Nook Color using Auto-nooter 3.0. Everything is working fine, with one acception, I can't delete emails from Gmail. When I push the button to delete the email, I get the confirmation dialogue, but when I confirm the delete, the Nook Color returns me to the home screen for my launcher, but when I go back into Gmail, the old emails are still there. Am I doing something wrong, or is there a way to correct this problem?
I had this same problem on my phone. If you go under nook color tools, applications, manage applications and go down to the gmail app and clear data and cache it should fix the problem at least it did on my phone.
When I go to nookcolor tools>manage application, I have no entry for gmail at all, but I do have the gmail application installed.
What you could do is star the message and then delete it once it's been starred.
