Flash enabled; strange pictures - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Recently I got my Htc one Silver. Really happy with it. just some minor cosmetic problems and I just discovered that my camera is acting funny in low light situations with flash enabled. I get some kind of orange layer over the picture. Sometimes above the picture sometimes all over.
Camera also takes a long time before the actual picture is taken.
Anyone seen this before?

Do you have the latest update?
Have you tried to clean cache of camera or make an Hard Reset after the update?

Is any part of your body extending towards the front of the phone? I can make my camera do this if I leave my finger near the lens..

I have to admit I drank some beers. Will try to reproduce tonight

Looks a lot like there is a finger close to the lense.
Waht is in the tree in that second picture? It looks quite erie!

The latest update improved the camera's performance, be sure to download it before reproduce some shots again for comparison.

Bionic Camera

This bionic camera in my opinion is terrible. I have done the research...tried multiple third party apps and I can't find something to get clear photos or to where I can tap a specific spot on screen to focus on that specific spot... Any help is appreciated.

Instead of tapping, you can drag the square in the middle to the area you want it to focus on.
Have you tried Camera Advance? Here is the market link https://market.android.com/details?id=com.mnapps.cameraadvancelite&feature=search_result There is also a paid versions too. Hope this helps
I tried it out, found out camera 360 has a touch to focus option, seems to be doing good, I miss the HTC camera lol..

Can you clarify for me how the "touch to focus" feature differs from the method I mentioned with dragging the square? I've heard a lot of complaints about not being able to "touch to focus" but I figured it was the same.
Same thing but instead of dragging a square you just tap the screen in the area you want it to focus on

I have tried most camera apps on the market. With the newly released flickr app comes with a camera. This thing is pretty solid. slow but still solid. I prefer this over the blur camera. Mind you it has less option than most camera apps, however they can only improve with later versions.

What's the deal with camera360 only showing half screen? Is there a setting I'm missing that makes it full screen or so I have to buy the full version?

Full version does the same thing to me its not made for qHD is my guess maybe im wrong tho
Hey...figured it out. Download spare parts from the market. Uncheck the "comparability mode" box and that fixes it.

SWEET had this already but didn't know it was ticked, this is awesome much better, but yeah this app is great for our camera, i seem to get great photos and fast focusing
Sooo, I've been very disappointed with the camera like most of u... That is until I realized a really awesome feature that dramatically improves quality & speed:
==> hold down the shutter button until u are ready to snap a picture and it will instantly take the pic with great quality. This is a trick I stole from my days of taking pictures with a point & shoot camera!
Hope this helps - I've even tested this in the dark and it works perfect on Auto.

Re: Camera! Please fix it!
I have some GOOD news about the stock camera, after fussing with it for more than a few hours (and after uninstalling my Vignette app)...
Try this (but don't expect it to take rapid-fire photos - it's stilll a phone camera). The results for me were pretty good, relative to what I was getting before.
In the stock camera options:
Check - store on SD card (not internal storage)
Mode: Choose the "hand" - steady
Move the brightness slider SLIGHTLY to the right (brighter)
Use autoflash only when you definitely want flash. Otherwise, turn it off when there's enough light. The flash tends to wash out colors.
AND most important - I had to learn the hard way - aim at your subject and wait until the white corner square turns into a full square - and then turns green. Most already know you can move the square with your finger to the part of the photo you want the rest of the photo based on. When the box is green, though, the camera has focused and adjusted the exposure to what you are aiming at. THEN, click the photo.
This takes more time than it should, but at least it works. Experiment with other modes besides "auto," which seems to deliver less than mediocre.
I got some pretty impressive results from this combination. Much better, at the least, than my first attempts.

Not a big fan of the camera neither, I can't figure out how to take clear pics. Many pics isn't sharp.
I have 3 different camera apps and none of them is good on inside photo..
I have the original app, camera zoom fx and lgcamera, where lgcamera is the worst. Only on auto focus the camera actually focus (original). Still I get pics that isn't sharp.
I'm on 10f... For me it seems like it got worse after the latest update...

have you tried changing the focus mode to fixed, or other modes?

In the original camera app there's only auto and face reckoning...
In camera zoom fx it won't focus in fixed mode, macro and infinity just taking the pic with ones. Lgcamera is the same and camera360 focused a bit (macro)..

I don't think it's bad and I don't really have any problems with focusing. I just touch the screen where i want to focus and when it is focused I press the the shutter button (or volume button).
I also had the N8 (well 3 actually) and woow I liked that camera, though I had problems with the screen, pink tint and things like that. After the third phone I took the money back. It would have been very nice if the N8 was an android phone.
I love it too,i hope the next version will better than now:laugh::laugh:

I recommend u to use Camera ICS+, I purchased it and it works perfect for me. You may try the free version, which is Camera ICS, it is actually the google stock camera with some mods, but I personally think it is even better than the stock LG camera app, hope u enjoy it.:good:
I use lgCamera, both free and pro version can provide better pictures with ISO and focus control, but sometimes it cannot save picture properly (resulted in picture without thumbnail)

[Q] Pink spot on photos

With ICS my photos end up with a pink/redish sphere in the middle of the photo.
With GB no!
I have view same problem on others phones (Sansung Note, Galaxy II), all have ICS!!
I think the problem is in google camera's code
Does anyone else experience this?
I experienced that also in cm10 camera but mine is purple color even on focus/out-of-focus
I think it's in the flash because i tried to take photos with and without flash

I have downgrade my phone to GB and the photo back to normal, i try to install GB camera on ICS but it's fail.
Of course it will fail we need to wait someone to modified cm10/ics camera
I think it's over exposure because of the flash

It could be the heat from the CPU which is causing this.

I have the same issue, and I would agree with you, because the problem is evident with any of the 6 different camera apps I tried, not just a stock ICS camera. It looks like some OS component providing the sensor data to a camera app is buggy. I am not a developer, so I have no idea what part of code that would be, but to my understanding camera apps don't talk to hardware directly...
And, BTW, this issue has nothing to do with flash overexposure, as previously suggested, because it's clearly visible on photos taken without flash...
Edit: Forgot to add one thing that I find a bit weird... In my case, this "pink spot" is only visible on photos taken in average natural light (like on a cloudy day, i.e. not bright). However, if I take pictures in a bright sunlight, or under artificial lighting (incandescent or CFL), or with flash, they turn our great, with no such artefacts. Go figure...
I tried other phones with ics and seems to be a common problem in low light, does not happen with sunlight.
Should compare the code jni between gingerbread and ics, i think.
I'm a Java developer but i'm develop j2ee/flash web applications.

Camera App stops taking photos

If this has been posted already, my apologies! i've been reading in the forums for months now and haven't seen it posted yet unless it came and went down the list faster then i could see it.
so the main issue seems to be, after taking a few pictures over time the camera app just freezes with the LED on like a flashlight and won't take another picture. until i found this google code submission
http://code.google.com/p/android/is...s Owner Summary Stars&groupby=&sort=&id=40996
i've always had to reboot my phone just to take pics again. it's been embarassing when in public with friends i've bragged to about this phone... its a good laugh thats for sure, but not what i expect out of this phone. has any of you experienced this? do you guys on custom roms have this issue? is this a google code issue only or are all roms experiencing this issue? i haven't rooted yet as i always wanted to take updates automatically and stay up to date, but with this camera issue i'm in the process of rooting right this minute but want to make sure its worth my hassle.
discuss.
I've had this issue as well. It only seems to affect the stock app though as other camera apps continue to function. A reboot is the only way is been able to fix this bug.

It happened to me for the first time on New Year's Eve but happened three times. The app reset when I either closed it from the recent apps list or switched to video camera and then back to regular camera. Not sure what caused it and hasn't happened since.

So what you're trying to say is whenever you try to repetitively take photo, camera freezes with led light on? Never happened to me. Then again, I barely use my camera
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
I've had this happen as well, although I don't think I needed to reboot, just closed the app and it stopped. But I've had this happen several times, not recently though. I'm very disappointed with the camera on this thing, it seems to take lack luster photos and the app is very fritzy and the rotation animation awful, as well as this occasional glitch.

that's exactly what I'm saying. I take a lot of pics especially when we go out. it does it all the time... it just freezes with the led stuck in. I can hit home but when I reopen it and take a pic it gets stuck in again. I just read I can switch to video and back and it should work, but that's annoying. my girlfriends gnex just works and she always laughs at me when it happens.
question, does this happen on anyone's rooted nexus with custom rom?

Happens to me all the time. The camera app on here is pretty disappointing. I don't get it.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
I just got it to produce that problem and I see what you mean by annoying. One easy solution that I heard people using is using a third party camera app. Try a free camera app and tell us how it goes. Tried to reproduce the problem with camera zoom fx and couldn't do it. Also I believe this is a problem with terrible auto focus of nexus 4. Because when this happens the focus ring looks like as if it's still trying to focus into a object. Hopefully this gets fixed with software update. Cheers
BTW, using a rooted stock nexus 4 with Franco kernel and camera mod that'll increase the quality of the image and video.

Me too and I've now "Starred" the bug.
Hopefully everyone here has too so it gets noticed by Google.
Same issue. Experienced it for the first time on New Year's Eve. Both my Nexus 4 and my wife's had the same thing happen. Only happened to mine once. Happened to hers about 3 or 4 times.
Used the camera the most on New Year's compared to any other time so that's possibly why I never experienced it until then.
Happened twice when asking strangers to take pics of us too, which was extremely annoying and embarrassing.
The LED flash stays on and you can't take any pics. Closing the app and swiping it from recents and reopening does nothing. The same thing will happen on the next try. Need to reboot the phone. It's the only fix.
My phone did this on new years eve too.

Happened the same to me more then once. I don't use the camera that much but when I really need it doesn't work.
This is embarrassing when everyone around you is taking pics with their iPhone.
Had numerous android phones before and never had one 100% reliable.

BTW while messing around just now, I got it to freeze , but noticed it was out if focus , so I moved it around and it eventually took!

Try the Camera Zoom FX app. When I say amazing control, I mean AMAZING control of the camera. ISO, tap to focus and shoot, programmable hardware buttons for shutter/gallery etc...
The ability to control ISO means you can get rid of noise for stills/landscapes in almost any light. It works great. Furthermore, the pictures appear to be better from this app. When I started the app, I played around with it and thought "hey this is great, I have control over each shot, but the quality of the picture in auto mode appears the same as stock." Then I found in somewhat hidden "All Settings" menu a SAVE menu which was defaulted to 85% for jpeg output. I put it on 100% output and the pics look very good if not better than stock. The hardware is decent in this thing so the pics should be good. Take a look at the app and try it out for a few minutes to test it.
Disclosure: I have NO financial or personal interest in the company or developer of this app. But I do have a personal interest in photography.

Camera blur + focus problem?

I tried to take a picture of landscape and won't focus. Most of the time it focuses on areas on the left side and leaving like half of the picture blurry in random spots on the right.
I've seen some issues on XDA forum but I don't really understand...I also didn't install any modifications. The whole package is straight outta Ee-tmobile UK and still is!
I wonder what could be the problem? There is an example
