MicroSD necessary - Galaxy S Advance I9070 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there guys, I'm a newbie and I'm Italian. I've noticed in the most ROM's guides is required the MicroSD to install ROMS, but is it really necessary? Can't I install the flash ROM putting the files on the internal storage?

You mean stock rom or custom roms?
For custom roms, you need ext sd as it is required when you root the phone(stock recovery can only read ext sd card)..

It's not that expensive a 2Gb SD card to justify trying other options. And you need especially for backup and restore in case something goes wrong.
Here, in my country (Romania) cost somewhere within 5 EUROs so ... I just buy an 32Gb SD Card with 28 euros

Well, I'll buy an SD... I guess. Thanks guys!

no it´s not. if you have kernel with cwm you can flash via internal ext-sd

Yea, but to get a kernel with CWM you have to be rooted, and you need the external SD to root the phone.

Another question: which ROM would you suggest to an user who comes into modding's world for the first time? I bought my first smartphone, Galaxy S Advance, last week and I'm looking for a "smooth" ROM, without Samsung's crapware or Google (ChatON, Google Talk, Gmail etc.).
I hope I made myself clear!

You can try any of the JB custom roms listed here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2110245
This thread can help too: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2222016
Most of them had useless apps taken out but they're made according to the dev's taste. So try them and see which one suits you best. Read the OP of the thread of the roms to get better info.
Hope this helps.

They're so cheap in your region. In Vrancea a MicroSd card costs like 200 lei(~45 euro)
ON TOPIC:You can use internal storage for custom roms.

I bought it from the emag website with 149 RON because I wanted class 10, but find class 4 with 114 lei (25 euros) or class 6 for 119 RON all with included adapter.

I'm having a look at the Hybrid ROM, I like it! What do you think?:good:

So where should I post? In the ROM's thread?

Take a look ...
Best combinations of ROM ...

Look, I would to root my S Advance to install a flash ROM, which guide I have to follow? By rooting it all data will be erased?

No, you dont loose your data.
Follow Shaaan guide, in the devs area to root your phone.

This guide doesn't go well? But I want to erase all data, Samsung crapware included.

That is Shaaan's guide i recommend you.

I couldn't get all what you mean but here goes it...
To keep your phone memory empty you can move apps to sd-card...Learn more at http://yagyagaire.blogspot.com/2011/09/how-to-install-applications-to-sd-card.html
If you are looking for Samsung Firmwares latest is 2.3.5 (not Official for all regions). There are many custom roms (not by sasmung) available to install and most of them are based on GB 2.3.4 (so they are also like latest). Please find more info in their threads in Development section of Galaxy Mini forum.
Updating will remove all your apps, settings, data, etc. and install a new firmware. So, it is a most to do a backup of your apps, contacts and other data first. You data on sd-card will be safe.

Nothing offensive but that's why noobs shouldn't root their phones.
What android version do you have btw?
If it's 2.3.4 you could try yagya's tutorial on his site: yagyagaire.blogspot.com/2011/08/how-to-root-samsung-galaxy-popmini.html
If it's lower, you should consider flashing 2.3.4.

yes for other phones that have a secondary boot loader such as magldr on the hd2 and the rom/kernel has to be made for the sd card to run
How to make it
Hi is there any update on it . If no plz direct me where to start if I wish to do it myself.
There is a thread in the developer section about a kernel for multiboot.

I Followed this guide. It's really a simple guide for anyone .

Can I switch back to my CF-Rooted GB again (I've CWM backups) ?

ICS Repack Problems
Hi all,
I managed to flash ICS Repack by Chainfire on my galaxy note today. It is pretty cool and really fast. But I've few questions to ask regarding this new ROM. Please be kind enough to direct me to a appropriate thread if these questions are already been asked and solved.
After I flash ICS Repack, I cannot find CWM anymore. What happened to it ? and how I can get it back ?
How I can go back to my old GB rooted ROM (I've CW backup of that rooted LB2 GB ROM) ?
By now, this ICS version cannot render South Asian languages. but LB2 rendered it very well. Are there any option to get that language support on this ICS ?
I need to change this Keyboard (Chinese) to English. Any other method to change it (Instead of installing GO Keyboard) ?
In our county phone numbers have two formats (our numbers are start with "0" but receiving calls don't have that starting "0" ). But in this ICS ROM, those 2 numbers are Identifying as two different numbers. Any method to fix that issue ?
Can I get my CPU speed to 1.4GHz again ?
Please be kind enough to help me on these matters.
Thank You.
This is why users should study BEFORE they flash. Anyways. Flash CWM, boot it, resrore backup. Cant help you much. Just got my Note happy studying

Stick with GB for now...people working with ICS around here like to make you jump through hoops just to get your phone to work...so if you're not will to spend the time on it, then stick with GB...no fuss, no muss.
The answer to 3. is a very simple 'yes, you can always go back'.
Also, massive thanks for updating your OP with the answers you have found. If only all question-askers did this.

See I also have got that problem, of not being able to stay kind, but mostly (at least I hope so) I think back, how it was, when I was a total NQQB. Then I always remember, how cool it was, when some1 guided me step by step and giving me links, information, or whatever I needed... Think back of the first days of yours here... Didnt you also feel like: "WDF? WDF? WDF? What do I have to to? WDF? Dont understand...? What's that mean? Can someone explain? Am I really so much of a noob? I thought I understand a lot of computers, but now I feel like a complete idiot... How should I EVER get a custom ROM to my device? "
Those were my thoughts a few months ago... And now see all my posts, how to's and so on here... The main thing is: Stay cool, help out as good as you can, dont flame, cause 1 day you ll need help too and be thankful for a kind advice, that is being given.
So guide that man kindly to his goal (or whatever you call it) and feel happy, cause you really helped some1 out.
I just couldnt reply longer, cause I had to learn meanwhile and my traffic was full, so I had to ask my neighbor, to share his WIFI with me
and what about my data i have on my phone (not SDCARD)
anyway to retrieve that?
BTw N00B THANKS ALOT FOR ALL YOUR HELP SO FAR, and Straight answers. =D
Hope you made a nandroid, like suggested in my NOOB HOW TO... :-/ Backup everything with titanium Backup. This is gonna save all settings, game data, sms, contacts,... contacts can also be saved by syncing with googlemail, or other accounts, or you export them to the sdcard (go to contacts --> menu button --> export TO SDCARD/USIM) or with the LG app (LG Suite i think it is called).
Hope you didnt delete everything already...
Oh and there is a thanks button below the posts

Calm down. We are becoming a lazy bunch i tell ya that. Nobody wants to read. They just wants answers imidiately. That's no problem, someone will always help. What i can't stand is, never saying "thank you" people. If somebody helps you a simple thank you should be in order. Nobody gets paid for helping....
And don't forget the times you were a noob, desperately looking for help. So always help others.
Before all that READ people, You can not believe what i've learned in a month by simply reading.
just a quick question for a quick answer.
Basicly Marvel v5. its already a Gingerbread rom right?
because i was thinking that i needed to install the official 2.3 to be able to install MArvel.
No, you can directly flash marvel, zeus,... no need to up or downgrade before, except you flash a stock rom, without ext4 file support

You have to create a ROM slot jinx in safestrap.
What I'm trying to remember is the steps since I've been on my OPO for a couple months
If you don't want to bother running a ROM slot it's not really necessary.
What I did I just made a nandroid of my bone stock Rom then just flashed whatever compatible rom I wanted.
I actually had 4 or 5 different Roms backed up on my ex SD card and just restored whichever one I wanted to use to the stock slot. Piece of cake
Safestrap
All I did to root my phone was flash NE4, then run towelroot, shutdown and then flash OA1 though Odin.....I don;t have safestrap on the phone....not clue how to get it on there.....I am a CWM kinda girl....lol

Not to come off sounding flip or snotty.....but I saw that link and did read over it.....and it is a tad over my head. This is a new phone and not as easy for me just to load CWM and start flashing away. I do not want to brick my phone, and meant no ill will or annoyance by my post. I did look and search...but other than the standard HEY your warranty is void......I get a tad scared. Sorry again if your were annoyed. I'm only 10% tech savvy.....lol
All you have to do is download the APK and install it. It's not that hard. You won't be able to lead cwm on this phone as the bootloader is locked. Only TW based roms.
Am I to assume you mean a Safe strap apk???? I have not seen it as a,stand alone...but I may have not looked hard enough.
