[Q] Samsung 64gb microsdxc not recognised? - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I put the new card in, and it's not recognised.. It doesn't know I put a card in
I don't have a pc at the moment so I can't try formatting it..
I hope it's not broken and a format should help?

Take the card out turn off phone
Put the card in
Turn phone on
It should pop up then saying 'card detected, format?'
If not go into settings and then storage and format it
That's how I remember if my memory serves me right

Doesn't work.. Is this a normal problem with the phone then?

Have you tried formatting it manually from within the Storage menu? I've read that this is the solution to most issues with non-detected 64GB cards.

It doesn't even know there's a card installed.. Nothing.

Try the HP format tool for windows if you use a PC. It can handle large FAT partitions. Try both modes, fat and exfat and see if the phone recognises it. Failing that, I'm out of ideas I'm afraid.

SD Cards Corrupt all the time

SD cards are so irritating. I had a nice 8 gig card and i tried to connect it to my pc to transfer a file.... Long story short, it corrupted and it screws up the phone unless u remove it..
I have a 2 gig card in there now but i cant even insert the card to format it in windows cause windows recognizes the card, but will not format it. ugh.

That could be it I've yet to have a problem with any of my SD cards, and I always unmount/safely remove hardware. Who knows, you might just have bad luck with SD cards lol

think of it this way. if the sd card is mounted there is power going to it. if you dont unmount sometimes the power can arc over the contacts. its like if you were working on your pc and decided to pull the RAM right out when the pc was on.
well that was a hard lesson i had to learn i guess.

Galaxy s killed at least one if my Micro SDs

One month ago i bought on ebay a 32 gb Mirco Sd, i put it in my phone which told me to format it: i did it and than it stopped to be shown in both phone or computer.
Ok, i thought i had bought a fake and i started again to use my old 16 gb Micro SD i've had for one year.
This morning i switched on my phone phone and it told me that it had a problem with the Micro SD and i needed to format it; i did it and since than it happend the same happend with the one i thought was a fake (now i'm not so sure).
It stopped to work anywhere!
Do anybody have any ideas to solve this?
clean the contacts on the card and the phone. Make sure your computer's reader can handle that size of sdcard. the computer usually can, but the reader may have a problem. Verify that it is formatted as FAT.
I cleaned the contacts and now my phone sees the micro sd: it only says "empty sd stick or unsupported filesystem", but in the memory settings i can't mount it and if i try to format it nothing happens.
The pc still doesn't see the sd, i've even tried with 2 different readers

Do u remove sd crd often, if u do then pls go to settings-sdcarf and storage and unmount your sd card or it will get corrupted. Its an amdroid problem. The rest part where it doesnt work anymore is wierd.

I remove it sometimes, but not that often, however i can't do that, because so far it still can't be mounted nor formatted and also it can be seen by the computer

I used to have this issue with my old sdcard. If you can get the computer to read it first try this :https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_3/. If that doesnt work try some software called partition magic and use it to format the card. This might not work for you but i was having the same issue as you and it did for me.

No probs, and the only way i could get the computer to read the sd card was using a card reader, multiple reboots, removing and re-inserting the sd card until it decided it wanted to be read....as you might imagine it took a while, good luck

Cannot format nor mount SD Card

Suddenly my SD card stopped being recognized.
Cannot mount it, cannot format it under CWM recovery
I put in my laptop running Win 7 and I can see everything is on it. Still cannot format it even on Win 7. It says it is write protected.
Any ideas ?
Download Panasonic SD Formatter,
format with that.
Sent from my HTC Incredible S using xda premium
Tried with Panansonic card formatter, but same message: Write protected !!
L.E.: Tried with another SD card .... everything is ok
The previous one is always reported as Write-protected no matter what I'm doing (valid while in Win7, 'cause the phone does not see it at all).
Anyway at least I still have my data on it and can read it on my laptop and transfer it on the other card.
If anyone has any idea on how to unblock the SD card will have a big THX from me
are you talking about an SD card or a MircoSD card?
*Some* SD cards come with a "lock" toggle on the card.
If you are using a standard SD card is the toggle in the lock position?

as stated in my first post, it stopped working suddenly, in the middle of the day.
It said "No SD card mounted" ... couldn't format it, nor re-mount it on the phone
I put it in my laptop running Win 7 and I could see all the data inside, can copy it, but cannot delete anything because it says it is write-protected.
Resolution ? changed the card with a new one .....then I just copied part of the data from the old one to new card.
Alright, that's weird, I hope no one else has this problem
I would hate this to happen to me, I bought a faster sdcard

You could try formatting it using diskpart in windows 7 or gparted in Linux

since I already bought a new card, which is working, and the old one still can access it's data, I see no reason to try and format it now.
At least knowing that it is blocked as write protected I'm sure that nothing can delete the data stored on it

Phone Won't Read SD card

I reformatted my SD card that was in my phone a while back but the problem now is that is my phone will not read the SD card. It only shows the internal memory.
Maybe the SD card is damaged? Have you tried it on a different device?

Okay, most likely somehow your format got interrupted so I suggest to try formatting it again. If that doesn't work Mount it to a PC right click the SD cards partition and click properties then scan disk and post error results if there are any.
EDIT: sorry, didn't notice your upper post.
Not formatting through a pc might've been the problem all along, keep us posted.

Micro sd card problem

"Preparing sd card" "checking for errors"
I have two sony 32gb micro sd cards and somehow both cards are giving me the same error.
Both just keep saying "preparing sd card" when inserted into my phone and it even forces the z1 to freeze and reboot.
I have tried inserting them into the pc but they're both undetected by the pc. The only device these cards work on is my ps3 but unfortunately I can't format the card on it.
Also tried formatting through clokworkmod recovery menu it was formatted successfully but I still get the same problem.
Could anyone help me out any possible ways to fix my sd cards?
Tl dr:
2 micro sd cards not being read by any android phone.
Pc can't detect
Ps3 detects
Clockwordmod can format
Need some kinda fix if possible?

what format??
FAT32
NTFS
exFAT
might pay to make it fat32 and see what errors you get back.
Ah yes thanks for the reply although how do I format it with FAT32?
Remember it's not being detected by my PC

Its not being read by your pc... hmmmmm
So you are using a SD adapter to insert it into your PC correct?
I'd try removing it from the SD adapter a few times, and then reinsert it into your PC. There may be a connection issue there. What version of Windows are you running?
XP will need service pack 2 to enable fat32/64 /NTFS/ exFAT formats.
W7 already has these installed
If it still wont work then are you able to try another PC? or perhaps a Mac system?
(Mac always formats to FAT32 by default)
There may be an issue with your microSD card. But you'll need to eliminate all of these possible solutions first.
Most SD cards have 10 year warranties (possibly lifetime)
I did have an issue with my SanDisk Ultra 64Gb. But this was a hardware fault and it was replaced by SanDisk.
Do you try to format them by a Digital Camera?
