[Q] GT-I9000 need new Android, newbie - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
i just bought an old samsung galaxy s and it has a very old android inside. I had a look in the forums so i am somewhat aware what to do. But those threads are mostly 100s pages long so after i read maybe since 5 days i still feel i have to ask before i continue with flashing and renewing the OS inside it.
First i give you specifications from about the phone menu in the cellphone:
Model: GT-I9000
firmware version: 2.1-update1
Baseband version: I9000NEJG1
Keernel version: 2.6.29 [email protected] #2
Build number: ECLAIR.NEJG3
i also inserted a 4GB microSD card and it also has its own internal SDcard of course.
its the first time i use a touchscreen android phone, i am quite experienced at editing, formatting and PCs and registries..etc since windows98.
but i have no experience with androids.
First of all which android version i need? I really do not care about excessive use of applications. I only need reading mails, rarely using facebook kind pages, google map, a navigation program, Skype(not swype)-being able to make video calls. A scheduler with calendar and a working camera and a kind of a easy note taking software. I will be using a lot of wireless internet(wifi points around) with the phone so also a stable wifi connection version of android is for me important.
I do not care about visualisations... I need a smooth working, stabile phone. so which version you suggest for my phone?
Radio i do not need, swype is optional
i read many things about lagfix.. the file system of internal sdcard, i was not able to follow the 100s pages of thread, can you please provide me with simple way of fixing it?
i read also much about rooting and flashing could not follow also, do i really need a very very specific root and flash program which is compatible with my phone?
about CMW version i am also doubtful....does it have to be compatible with my phone model?
-it was locked for using in georgia and i made it unlocked, now working basically with a simcard of georgia.
Question is: will the unlocking be reversed after rooting and flashing? Do i need to unlock it again after new android? ( i prefer not to as i paid 20 euro for it)
phone is not rooted.
my android is not able to run skype now and also alarm working randomly and it is restarting itself from time to time.
can you give me a step by step guide for what i need with download links if possible(i really appreciate the links) and also while explaining step by step, can you specify which file i should put in external sd card and which ones i need in internal sd card.
There is no single data i need to recover in the phone.
if you need any other information please tell me, i can give.
thanks!

Hi,
Okay, so I can't give an answer to every question but I can at least give you my opinion.
In terms of roms, before you do anything you want to update to 2.3.6, which you can download at http://www.sammobile.com under the "firmware" section. Search for any I9000 2.3.6 rom.
Use Odin to flash the rom in (if you want step by step instructions PM me or leave a reply).
As for what version of Android, really, anything above 4.0 will probably suit you. Take a look at the CyanogenMod roms:
CM9 (ICS 4.0.4): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1592131
CM10 (JB 4.1.2): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1778526
CM10.1 (JB 4.2.2): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2039755
Also take a look at the Slim series, my personal favourite (due to the lightness and the amazing battery life)
SlimICS (4.0.4): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1488096
SlimBean 3.1 (4.1.2): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1780071
SlimBean 5.0 (4.2.2): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2060374
With Slim Bean you need to flash in another file for email however.
Look around those two awesome roms because those seem like the best for your usage.

You won't lose connection due to IMEI problems on Jelly Bean if you flash in CM9 and letting it boot first before flashing in Jelly Bean. Going directly from Gingerbread to Jelly Bean is likely to cause IMEI loss, if that's what you meant.

@Soryuu,
Hello, thanks for answer first of all...i may need of course step by step instructions, but i wanted to ask why did you say that before anything else i need to upgrade to 2.3.6? as you also suggested if anything above 4.0.0 going to meet my requirements, why in that case i need 2.3.6 first?
if i upgrade to one of those 4.0 version you say, do they include lagfix(file system-like fat32,ntfs..)
and what do you mean with i need another application for mails, do not they open and connect to internet and simple webpages without extra apps? after one of these 4.0 versions cant i just go skype.com and download skye android version and use it with video and basic(sound) call options?
thanks

Hey there,
Sure, just PM me when you're ready and I'll send you instructions (hopefully without being too confusing O_O)
People often suggest upgrading to 2.3.6 which is the latest official version for the Galaxy S. I guess partly because its dead easy to root (CF-root, I'll link you if you want), but also because I've seen people who have problems trying to go to 4.x.x straight from 2.2 or 2.1.
There may be some other technical reason behind doing this- perhaps its because of how the data is organised and scripted in differing versions, and that makes it easier in 2.3.6- but its recommended, and hey, if things go wrong, you can go back to the latest official rom for the s
Anything above 4.0 should be fast and smooth enough to not require lagfix. Lagfix is something that I've seen more on Gingerbread than ICS or JB. In fact I'm not sure whether ICS and JB have lagfix at all- those roms are smooth
Emails will still work in the browser like normal, if that's what you meant and not through an app then that's fine (I have to say browsing the web on these roms are pretty amazing)
Just that Slim Bean tries to make a REALLY light rom in terms of size and speed. So by default they don't include the Email app that comes with most other roms. On their website they have a flashable zip that installs the Email app like normal. If you're not looking to use an app for email though and instead with the browser, then it doesn't really matter.
CyanogenMod roms have this email app by default.
And you should be fine with Skype on Play Store. You shouldn't run into any problems unless its a problem with the app and not the telephony/sound/video features of the rom.

Hello!
thanks to Soryuus PM efforts i was able to install SlimBean 5.0 and now phone is working with that.... but it says no network detected!!
i am not able to make phone calls
sim card inserted..i also made a few reboots...
it did not ask for sim pin either!
i was able to make calls with android 2.1
i got this phone from austria and i came to georgia.... while android 2.1 was installed, ı had to pay someone 20 usd to make a unlock to be able to use network provider.... it was networ-or- simlocked...
so do you think after this slimbean v5(a new OS in phone after rooting and flashing..etc) must i make another network-phone-sim unlock operation?
or is there a setting in phone about that?
i am completely new to this slimbean...last one i used was android 2.1
should i create a google account or another kind of account?
there is something called superuser..is this what?
i was in fact looking for a simple and smooth OS, is android 2.36 better for me?(if you consider my requirements from above posts?
in slimbean there are phone settings, nova settings and even slim settings and many other settings i am a bit messed up
if i can do something, under which settings i will find it?
some other info about operation i did:
i was able root with CWM first but after that when i installed the slim v5.0 also the recovery mod(soundup-middle button-power button) changed to a semaphore version..... was that expected??
but i was able to call people with my android 2.1 now i cant call
it says no network provider
how to solve that?
i got the phone from Austria and it was network locked here when i first come(now i am in georgia), i had to pay someone to unlock it...do you think i have to do that again??
and another little thing i noticed:
my android 2.3.6 version was xxjw4 as suggested...after i upgraded it from 2.1
now with slim, baseband is unknown and build number is JDQ39E is there something wrong here? should not it be something like JW4 again
i installed the rom: Slim-galaxysmtd-4.2.2.build.5-OFFICIAL
i also tried: GT-I9000_XEU_I9000XXJW4_I9000OXAJW4_I9000XXJW4 but this one did give an error and i could not install(do you think i should force this one(give another try?)
now:
in phone's settings>about phone: i see
modek number: GT-I9000
Android version: 4.2.2
Baseband version: Unknown !!!!!is this a problem!!??
Kernel version: 3.0.76-semaphore_JB_2_9_24s
CPU: ARMv7 processor rev 2(v7l) !!first time i see a cpu under about phone settings!! is this ok??
Memory: 386MB
Slim version: Slim-4.2.2.build 5-OFFICIAL
Build number: JDQ39E
if i have to make an unlock operation again...i will pay again some money...but what if i decide to change the android version again-if i do not like this one or want to try another one, i may again need to pay this price!! which will be really annoying after 2 times!!
has that unlocking operation some files in root or SD card which i can copy and past or install again after i flash??
can you give me some advices about that??
thanks for any advices!

ok... we did some things and i was able to flash slimbean 5.0 but then i noticed that i lost imei files and then tried to roll back to 2.3.6...etc
now phone is not working at all... having these lines in cwm mod:
E:unknown volume for path [/data]
E:unknown volume for path [/data]
E:unable process volume! Skipping...
checking /cache...
E:unknown volume for path [/cache]
E:unknown volume for path [/cache]
E:unable process volume! Skipping...
Done!
E:unknown volume for path [/cache/recovery/command]
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/command
E:unknown volume for path [/cache/recovery/log]
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/log
E:Cant open / cache/recovery/log
E:unknown volume for path [/cache/recovery/last_log]
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/last_log
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log
E:unknown volume for path [/cache/recovery/command]
so i think i need a total new flash and recovery.. i will loose imei and have to pay again 20 usd for unlocking the device but its ok (i am not sure if i can buy a new 2nd hand samsung glaxy i9000 for 40 usd, in georgia(south of russia))
i came by a this thread: [ROM] EZbase v3.0 [25/04/2011] - odin / heimdall - Easy Full Graphical How-To
link is:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991792
but none of the download links are working...is any one there who can send me the necessary files or working links for those files?
or is there a new way and version of this total recovery method?
if i can recover and make the phone works, then i will first flash 2.3.6 XXJW4
then CM 9.0
then SlimBean 5.0
is there anything i miss here... do i need a specific cm 9.0 version like cm 9.0XXJW4? and slimbean v5 XXJW4??
i do not think so but i ask anyway to be safe...

ok!
i did it again... i used 512.pit file and repartitioned the card.
i installed 2.3.6 this time and i my imei was automatically recovered...
i am able to use internet, skype and some applications i wanted to have so it seems i will stay on this 2.3.6 for some time unless i notice some problems.
i also backed up this installation now and i now know how to recover from some unwanted situations....
i thank you those who contributed to the topic and also those who did not contribute and (indirectly) forced me to read in forums and learn by myself even if it took maybe more than 1 week and a lot of time
i now know how to install other OSs and in which order i must install..etc (2.3.6->CM9->JB)
hope i wont need much help if i one day want to update somethings...
now i want to use the phone for a while

How to: ERD79 (RA-Nexus-1.7.0) to Froyo

Haya all,
First, I am not a pro at this stuff, tho I am a full time developer, and comfortable with most things IT.
About 3 months ago I purchased a Nexus One, and since I live in Thailand, and the root OS could not handle the Thai font, I followed instructions on this site to root and upgrade to the RA-Nexus-1.7.0 package.
Now, however, I would really like to have 2.2 for the new apps and (most importantly for me) the Flash update.
Is there a way to flash this thing without erasing my current apps, configurations etc?
Let me also say that while my phone was notified of the updates (both 2.1 and 2.2), both failed to install with "Verification Failed". Manual install of Froyo also failed with the same message (via copy to flash and reboot to recovery).
I assume that I need to use the SDK to push a update to the phone, but do not want to make a mistake... and the directions I have found here assume that you either have a fresh phone or can update via flash/recovery.
Can someone please shoot me in the right direction? (I will need a download link too =D)
Thanks,
Frosty
Ok, let me add...
Like I said I am not a pro at this stuff. In the About Phone section, it does say that I have 2.1, and just in case its relevant, baseband version: 32.19.00.16U_4.02.02.14 and kernel version: 2.6.29-gad36b87 [email protected] #1
Rebooting to recovery mentions the RA-Nexus-1.7.0 still, so I assume thats the current "recovery".
Thanks
Frosty
What's your build number? That should be shown in the same screen as your baseband and such.
Edit: Also, are you wanting to use the stock Froyo ROM (with or without root) or did you want a custom Froyo ROM?

[Q] So confused. Is there a way or not?

Hi there folks!
Im getting mighty confused about this flashing thing.
Im looking to change my ROM to something else then the ICS from Samsung.
Here is the deal.
I read the warning posts and it say (what i think it means) that my build "XLP9" ICS 4.0.3 from Samsung is not safe to do anything on.
I look around on the net to see if there is a way (despite what i read here).
It looks promising.
But all the things i find is ether a lower version of Android (like 2.3.x) or someone is telling me about tons of stuff to download and do before.
So this is were i ask you all.
Do (been searching for 2 days, perhaps my search terms are bad) anyone know if there is a working way to for me to change my version to AOKP for e.g without destroying my phone?
Like i said before, my Build is: XLP9, android version 4.0.3 (from Samsungs update service).
Phone is rooted using CWM.
Its a Note version for the .EU market bought like a few weeks ago (came with 2.3.x i believe).
If you know a thread that contains step by step instructions that will allow me to change the rom, please post it to me here.
Or if I´m screwed for updating to ICS just tell me so to
Cheers

Hello again.
Yet another day and cant locate any information that im after.
So i tought perhaps there is a way to downgrade the phone back to the factory settings (not ICS).
But since i did the upgrade to ICS is the old rom still on the phone?
I mean to reset it back (same as thode recovery discs on a computer).
Any help or points in the right direction is helpfull at this time.
cheers

Now that you have upgraded to ICS. Those are the factory settings.
Easiest way to downgrade to GB Is by flashing a stock GB rom via pc Odin.
Most of the new ICS custom ROMs now just require you to install AbyssKernel 4.2, then select advanced options and select reboot recovery. Then you wipe your device (wipe data, cache and dalvik cache). From this moment you're free to flash. It all takes less then a minute if you hurry (joking, don't rush when flashing your phone), and it's not very complicated. Do it once and you'll know it's simple.
You need to have a root access first. Plenty of guides how to do it out there.

Help! Just a bit confused !!???s

Hey folks new to this house and it seems like you folks know what you are doing. Big thanks to the developers of the Paranoid (2) devs. and all of the support peeps out there through the post. Read through themes and roms section but I not seeing answers to my confusion. Looking for some help understanding the features described above and how to get the most out of it..very cool though..just would like to know how to really put it to the test! I was able to get this far from the original FW to gingerbreak, to ICS to Paranoid based on the threads her and I appreciate it much folks..now I seem to be at a brick wall..need help trying to figure this out. I appreciate that the phone isn;t the latest thing on the market but it what I have right now. Would appreciate any and all help just trying to get a grip on this puppy! Thanks Smitty
Oh, every time I see something that looks like it should work on my phone besides not knowing how to install..LOL why does it come up Nexus! Are they similar phones or something!! Thanks again
What's on the phone as of now!
Samsung captivate SGH I897
Android Ver. 4.11
Baseband 19000XXJVU
Kernal: 3.0-.31-01749-gf84bc96
Cyanogen Mod: 10.0.0-RCO-capitvatemid
Paranoid Ver. 2.16
Build# pa-capativate-userdebug 4.1.1 JR003R eng.
Now my question is I want to load on different roms to the phone and be able to go back and forth between these ROMS as I like. I have attempted to use Goo Manager ..that was loaded when I installed Pananooid Ver. 2.16. When I boot into recovery it states that mt recovery ver. is : CWM-based Recovery v. 6.0.1.4.
I was trying to load some of the roms that are a part of the Paranoid install and I when I choose from one of these options:
Browse compatiable rom
Browse all files
check for updates..(says there are no updates)
Download gapps packages
Root recovery
flash roms
Copatiable roms:
aokp/devs/aokp
BAKED /devs/BAKED
cm/devs/cm
LronLyons/dev/IronLyon
If I choose any of them you get another list and then another list..it says:
EX: aokp_captivatemid_jb_build-4.zip..just one example ..there are many listed below that as well for each of the roms listed above.
Then I see the file name as above and below that : Begin download and then below that Download Gapps..how do I know which one to download?
Under browse all files :
devs/devs

stock/stock..choose the first one and get a list of all these different names ..such as adhvanit/devs/advanit..in these cases are these all the groups who produce ROMS?
I also attempted to use ROM Manager( no clue) and it kept saying that I must have clockwork-recovery installed in order to flash a rom..I choose yes and it say I don't have it..but on my phone it says I have as listed above for the phone and what is on it: CWM-based Recovery v. 6.0.1.4. ..is this not what they are asking for..or is it that it is looking for one that is not CWM "based" but the really official ver. of CWM Recovery.
What I am looking for is an explanation of what I can now do with this phone the way it is and also how to load ROMS of different kinds that stay on my phone and how I go back and forth from one to another with ease. Additionally, how to put different themes on the phone and any other tricks that can trick the phone out. My bro and sister all went out and purchased new Galaxy S3 phones..I am keeping mine and want to "trick" it out as much as possible to" one up them"
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated folks..thanks in adv.!! Smitty
Thanks for the hlp bobbylx and TRusselo
Thanks bobbylx and TRusselo.....wanted folks to know that these bros. helped without hesitation and didn't give me a lot of BS when I had this emergency! I didn't get it fixed yet but they lent a hand and gave me some incentive and FYI..has a noob that means a lot to me! Thanks guys!!!! Smitty!!:victory: almost!!!
Smitty,
I no longer have the captivate so I'm not current on everything that's going on. If you can get into download mode I would find one of the stock roms that can be flashed via Odin and start over.
You'll have better luck post this in the QA section for captivate. Good luck,
Bobby

Boot into recovery, go to mounts and storage, then select usb storage, plug in phone, copy files. If that option isn't there, Odin flash back to stock.

[Q] Android jellybean 4.1 / 4.2?

Hello developers from XDA!
I have three questions that I was hoping you guys could answer.
First off, I own a Samsung Galaxy S GT i9000 and I'm currently running on 2.3.6 gingerbread XXJVU rooted.
I have been searching EVERYWHERE for a stable jellybean 4.1.2 ROM for my phone, but there are so many and the instructions are very complicated, resulting me into not really understanding how to flash it..
I have earlier tried to flash and ICS ROM which hugely failed. Flashing the stock rom & rooting it went succesfully, but after trying to install the rom from the recovery menu it didn't work. The result was that it was taking nearly up to an hour to start up. I had taken the battery out the phone and restarted before I waited so long. (Yes, believe it, or not. I have seriously waited an hour for it to start up. It just didn't want to.)
So my questions:
Do any of you from XDA developers know a STABLE jellybean rom which has most of the features available? For instance; calling, SMS, Wi-Fi, 3G, Play Store, USB acces etc.
I've heard that "Cyanogenmod 10" was a good one..
Second question is: IF any of you could provide me with a link to a rom (hopefully as I mentioned before Cyanogenmod 10) can you please provide a link with instruction on how to flash it? I really don't want to spend around 30 minutes to find out what I must do.
Also, I've heard that it's not a good idea to go from 2.3.6 to 4.1.2 instantly. I actually want to take the chances and go to Jellybean instead of first flashing and ICS rom.
And as for my last question: I will of course do a nandroid backup in recovery. But, if the jellybean rom fails to flash will I still be able to use that backup? As I mentioned before, I failed flashing an ICS rom. But when I did my recovery menu changed? It went from ClockWorkMod to a different one with a different colour. I haven't really looked at the backup files in the new recovery menu, but if I flash the jellybean mod I assume my recovery menu will change from CWM to CM, and resulting (I think) removing the backup files?..
If neccessary I'll post my entire device information:
Device information:
Model number: GT-I9000
Android version: GINGERBREAD_MR1 2.3.6 (SDK 10)
Kernel version: 2.6.35.7-i9000XXJVU-CL851880
Buildnumber: GINGERBREAD.XXJVU
I hope these questions could be answered!
Thanks in advance.
P.S.: Sorry if I posted this in the wrong section.
Hey,
so first of all I'd recommend Mackay ROM 1.5.9 which is based on CyanogenMod 10 but tries to stay as close as possible to stock Jelly Bean. You can find it in the development section.
To your second point: Go on CM9 first (twice!) then flash a clean CM10 and afterwards finally Mackay. If you got questions regarding that, you can ask me ofc But to be honest you have to read and try a bit to get into these things. I can explain a lot but you have to think yourself before doing something
Best regards

Alternatively you could just do a factory reset and flash CM10 Fishears since it uses the same partition layout as stock, avoiding the need to flash middlemen and format drives.

[Q] GT-P1000 Custom ROM for Rooted Device

Hello everyone.
I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab which I bought few years ago when it was first release (probably 2010). In the past, this device doing so well even after I root it 2 months after I purchase this device. But recently (starting 2014), it starting to hang or crashed a lot whenever i play a games. I mean high graphic games (if my term correct :laugh like Sims Freeplay etc which always make it crashed. I've never experience crashing thing if I play average games like cards etc. Apart from that, my battery drained way too fast for certain games. For your information, I'm a very hardcore gamer. Since I'm doing my work at home, most of time I spend it on games (probably like 16-18 hours or more per day while doing work or else). Because of this very reason, I've been thinking to upgrade it to latest android version so I can play latest games on Google Store. So I've been reading about custom ROM and decided to make it. My problem is my device is already rooted and I dont remember anything about it either which root tutorial I followed before or what apps that I used to root it. Only thing I remember is that Root Developer said that I need to use this same root apps to unroot my device. So now what can I do to get this custom ROM work? Do I need to unroot > stocked ROM > root again > custom ROM? Or I just straight doing this custom rom? And what is best stable custom ROM available for my device?
Here is my spec :-
Model : Galaxy Tab GT-P1000 (Phone/WiFi/3G)
Firmware : 2.3.3
Baseband : P1000DXJPE
Kernel : 2.6.35.7 [email protected]#2
Build : GINGERBREAD.DXJPI
Status : Rooted (I forgot how I root this)
Overclocking : Never did.
P/S : Sorry for my bad english.
So your device is rooted.
Does it has custom recovery or stock recovery.
To find out, power down your tab,
then hold the volume-up button, and hold down the power button, until you see the Samsung logo.
Let go of the power button, but keep holding the volume up button.
Then read what it says.
It it says Recovery 3(e) then you have a stock recovery.
If it is custom, likely CWM (clockworkmod) recovery.
What vesion of CWM.
If, by some chance, you didn't put a custom recovery, then just use Overcome method.
The link is in my signature.
You are already on GB. Root or not doesn't matter.
Installing custom ROM doesn't need root anyway.

Hello priyana,
I already made to overcome ROM before I saw your reply here. It is because I follow your signature from your answer on this tread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2038010 and now I currently have Overcome CWM 5.1.2.6 which work well at this moment. It also look awesome. Still thanks a lot for your reply. I have few question here..
1. Is there any Overcome ROM with android version of 4.+.+ or I should use Android 4.3 Jelly Bean CM10.1 Nightly ROM?
2. Can I have more than 1 ROM installed? Because I like Overcome style and still need android 4.+.+ for games.
3. With this Overcome I currently use now, is it still rooted or do I need to root it again? Because I need root access for some of apps like freedom, etc.
4. In case I click reset to factory data reset on setting. Is it reset back as first time I install Overcome ROM?

First, I'd seriously consider jumping to One of the better.... Um focused CyanogenMod 11, or OmniROM Builds if I were you. There is plently to be gained by updating the OS. Google Now being IMHO one of the better reasons to upgrade.
Secondly, I get your "Problem" its One in which I to share in. I guess it comes down to how well the "Developer" of your "Game" wishes to optimize their Code for. Most Games tend to work... Well enough... Other Games like Gameloft's My Little Pony have never worked well on either my Galaxy S (GT-I9000), or my Galaxy Tab (GT-P1000). Unfortunately for us these Devices only has a total of 512MB of which a portion is needed to run the OS which may leave you with something like 488MB free once your said and done. I suspect that these "Games" are probably more RAM hungry, and probably need a somewhat stronger CPU & GPU then what is on the P1000.

1) Overcome is a modded Android 2.3.6 (Gingerbread), TeamOvercome has since left the Stage, as Samsung will no longer maintain this Device. As to CyanogenMod... For the P1000 Int'l GSM... I'd recommend you use the following....
CM10 http://goo.im/devs/cm/p1/nightly/cm-10-20130203-NIGHTLY-p1.zip You can basically forget about wanting to use CM10.1 or CM10.2, as they are both broken, and are themselves pretty much unsupported
CM11 I'm quite partial to this ROM [ROM] SGT7 CM11.0 UNOFFIAL [4.4.2][P1/L/N][Kernel 3.0.x][2014-05-25] as the everything that, needs to work works again. Unlike CM10's .1 & .2. Namely the Camera. Just One word of caution here though. Due to the limited /system Partition. You should only install GApps_Minimal_4.4.2_signed.zip if you want to use something like AdAway on your Rooted Phablet.
As a side note I'd also recommend you try OmniROM. Though its a bit different to CyanogenMod. In that its NOT rooted! which is a major PITA! but there are ways to get 'round that. Unlike CM11 this ROM is updated nearly every day. Unlike the aforementioned CM11 Build this One will allow you to install the full GApps. But in the case of AdAway... Which depends on root, may not work unless you put a specific *.zip File into some Folder that insures that you have root every time you update it.
2) I'm not sure I think I read something about OmniROM beta testing some kind of dual boot system. But I gather its not ready for prime time yet though.
3) Yes its Kernel OS related you can reset your Phablet as many times as you wish it'll still be rooted. AFAIK only the Samsung Stock... And OmniROM ROMs are NOT rooted by default.
4) A factory reset should wipe all personal data on your Phablet Device. It would be analogues to a fresh install of Windows.. If you catch my drift.
I am on Omni.
To root you only need to download supersu.
I download the one from their website and flash via recovery.
Within its option, there is one that makes it survive a daily update/flash.

Or you root in that way for the first time, then you download The latest SuperSu Version, and then copy that into your /OpenDelta/FlashAfterUpdate Folder on your Internal SD (i.e. sdcard0) which should allow you to hold your root after each update. Otherwise it'll quickly become huge PITA to keep rooting your Phone on each daily update...
One other thing I dislike about OmniROM, is the fact that it does NOT support USB Mass Storage. Though to be honest... Neither does Google anymore. It only give you the choice of MTP: Samsung Kies Mode, or PTP: Pictbridge? Mode support. Though I'm lead to believe that UMS can be patched back into OmniROM if it hasn't already gone live.

Hello Ichijoe..
At this moment, I'm running CM11.2 on my GT-P1000. As developer of CM11.2 on thread said it is overclocked to 1.4GHz so it running good so far. And to cover my device lack of RAM, I use ROEHSOFT RAM Expander which I set my virtual RAM (if my term is correct) to 5GB. Yes, I know as developer said Virtual RAM is max for 4GB and I dont even need more than 2GB for running this, so I will change it later when I have time. So far, for this past 3 days, my GT-P1000 running with super duper smooth, not crashed even once unless I'm doing crazy thing like running 15 games at the same time. With my previous android Gingerbread 2.3.3, I'm never able to run more than 2 games without getting hanged or crashed. The only problem I'm facing now is I cannot use my videocam as it will send me popup "Unfortunately camera has stopped working". I can use normal camera, only videocam not working. Other user of CM11.2 also facing same problem. But I dont really mind since I less use videocam like 1-2 times per year. I wonder if I install 3rd party video software will allow me to use videocam. Never tried it yet.

As I mentioned above, I finally made it working. Thanks to both of you Priyana and Ichijoe, I'm able to continue my relationship with my precious tablet:laugh:. To be honest, I'm almost going to throw this tablet out of my house since I'm getting pissed of it because of always crashed over small apps. Thanks again.
