Custom kernel flashing requires an unlocked bootloader. Hoping that your phone is new, it would be locked!
First install the drivers (XZ drivers, flash mode and fastboot drivers) from drivers folder of flashtool (For flashtool, download the beta version from Xperia Z Original Development forum page than the 0.9.10.1 version- it doesn't support Z)
Next download the firmware of your choice. Make sure it isn't corrupted!
Switch off your mobile but DON'T connect!
Paste the downloaded firmware in firmwares folder of flashtool.
Open flashtool, select flash mode and select the firmware you copied!
It says that it is preparing files, let it do (about 5-10 mins)
After that, a dialog pops up saying that to connect the device, now hold the volume down button and try connecting the device. The flashing should start!

Thxs for your answer.
I got it restored to original.
I just wont to install the cm 10.1 kernel and then the cm10.1 rom.
They say I have to extract the kernel, when I unrar the firmware do I use the boot.img?
How do I do extract the kernel on Sony?
When I connect to flashtool it doesnt give me the option to unlock,so i presume its unlocked?
How can I check?
Ive been flashing my Note for a year now,but this is somewhat different.
To go onto cm 10 or as op (4.2.2) you need to unlock your bootloader
If you want to use Cm roms First you need to know if you can unlock it by dialing *#*#7378423#*#* >service info > configuration and look under bootloader unlock no means can't be unlocked, yes means you can, if you do unlock it make sure you back up your TA partition
There are tutorials on how to unlock bl and even on Sony unlock how to do it
Edit: to try, try and flash doom lords Xperia v6 kernel if it fails then you are still locked

I know I can simply just flash via SEUS/PC Comp but is there a file of W8 E16i 2.1.1.A.0.53 firmware files that can be used in flash tool? I can only find E15i 2.1.1.C.0.0
As I wrote in another post earlier this week ...
No, there are no FTF flash ROM images of the genuine W8 firmware around. The best thing you will be able to find, through Google, is a xRecovery backup of 2.1.1.A.0.46.
Best method would be ... restore your phone back to the original firmware though PCC/SEUS (whatever works for you). After the flash is done don't boot the device - fire up Flashtool, connect the phone in Flash mode and create a FTF image from the newly restored ROM. Once that's done verify your phone boots up correctly and then maybe upload the FTF image to share it with others looking for it.

Just looked at Flashtool - and - my bad ... the Backup option in the Advanced menu does not create a FTF (as I thought it would) but only backup /system/app.
In short - there's no easy way to create a FTF image directly from the phone.
The only two easy way would therefore be to pull a xRecovery backup from the E16i 2.1.1.A.0.53 firmware (which means that you have to boot, root and inject xRecovery - best done through Flashtool - to have a Flashable restore). Only downside is that this can't be easily restored through Flashtool if the phone is stuck in a boot-loop or whatever else soft-brick problem.
Help
My BuildNumber is W8 E16i 2.1.1.A.0.53 but the Sony PC Companion still reads W8 E16i 2.1.1.A.0.6 and always requesting to update my phone...I download the xRecovery backup of 2.1.1.A.0.46. and restore it using xRecovery of my phone..

SEUS or PCC? I did it with FlashTool instead.
Search in the forums, there are tons of topics about changing baseband. Notice that doing it is easy but risky, because it is possible to brick your phone.
Here you have a baseband collection to flash in your X8 depending on if it is E15i or E15a:

for goodness can u please provide me simple step by step instructions how to update baseband using flashtool !!! iam very new to flashtool .
already downloaded flashtool waiting for ur instructions
Well, you can know your phone model by checking it in Settings>About. You'll see there if it is E15a or E15i.
Before continuing, check the following things:
You have installed Sony Ericsson's drivers (if you installed PCC, it should be right).
Your phone is rooted.
I don't know if this is necessary, but enable "USB debugging" in Settings>Applications>Development>"USB debugging". If you rooted your phone, this should be already set.
Your phone is not connected to the PC.
Download the correct baseband depending on the model:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=976538
Download FlashTool:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=986697
Extract the downloaded FTF file into the folder "Firmwares" from the FlashTool main folder.
Run FlashTool and press "Flash" (the lightning icon), and select the first option. In the next form, select the right firmware on the left, and ALL the files on the right.
After accepting, you'll be shown some instructions to plug your phone. But before that, turn off your phone, wait some seconds, remove the battery and put it on again. With the phone still off, press "Back" button and connect it to the PC (without releasing the button).
You'll see when Flashtool finishes its work, and you'll be able to unplug the phone. Turn it on to check everything is OK.
You're done.
As I said in a previous post... this is a bit risky and I recommend you seeing some other topics about upgrading baseband.
i'm following steps to install monxdifieds rom and in the instructions it says
"Turn off device. (Hold power button + vol up until vibrates 3 times) [or use recovery turn off device option, if any]
Flash latest Sony's firmware (FTF) matching current latest monxDIFIED base rom using flashtools. Uncheck all WIPE options and exclude all EXCEPT KERNEL & BASEBAND to get latest matched kernel & baseband."
I don't fully understand what it means to flash sony's firmware matching current latest monxdified bas rom, could someone explain to me what this means? how would i go about flashing the sony firmware?

you need to download the "flash tools program" and download the .244 stripped firmware(link in yuga konami thread) then put the .244 firmware file in the flashtools firmware folder then flash the firmware before of after you flash the rom with flashtool
to get in recovery you either hold volume up or down(depending on if your using twrp or cwm) when the green light comes on

yep, in the end I just backup all my stuff, wiped the whole phone and returned it to stock, rooted it again, and flashed the custom rom again. problem solved!
dont forget to turn on the Debugging mode !!
Okay.
So I tried to root my xperia z with 10.4.1.B.0.101 firmware today.
but I forgot to turn on my usb debug before using flashtool to flash in a 10.3.1.A.2.67 firmware
Now my phone is stuck in a bootloop
Btw, my phone have a locked bootloader.
I am trying to flash the firmware to 10.4.1.B.0.101 again and I will try to process the root
What should I do now?
I would give any extra information if needed

Ok so I was trying to flash my z3 back to original Sony software because I was getting an error message in PC companion saying my phone cannot be updated because it contains modified software and I was flashing it using sony mobile flasher by androxyde and I forgot to enable USB debugging and unknown sources and now it's in a boot loop telling me "software update failed. Please plug your phone back in and try again"
Any ideas?
I was told to try using a different computer?
Hi all, if anyone is having trouble flashing with flash tool because usb debugging isn't enabled error then do this procedure.......
1. Dowload latest flash tool 0.9.18.8 and also version 0.6.6
2. Try use the latest version first to Flash the tft rom. NOTE: remember the file it has error flashing e.g on my experia sp file system.sin was not able to Flash bcoz usb debugging error (enable usb debugging and unknown sources) ALL THE REST of the files flashed ok!
3.try flash again the rom but this time tick system.sin (or error file) in flashtool to exclude it from flashing. Make sure all other files are included. Also tick all wipe caches options and flash rom without system.sin (or error file).
4. Flash procedure will work. Now disconnect phone and leave it off without restarting it.
5. Uninstall flashtool latest version 0.9.18.8 and install flashtool 0.6.6 old version and open it to Flash the same rom BUT THIS TIME only select the system.sin file (or error file) to be flashed and rest excluded. Make sure all wipe options in flashtool are enabled and Flash! THE FLASH WILL WORK WITHOUT USB DEBUGGING ERROR and your phone will be fixed!
Press thanks if it helped!

Make sure your phone is fully charged (minimum recommended value 70%). Now follow these steps below :
1) Connect your phone in MTP (Media Transfer Port) mode with your PC.
2) Open PC Companion and wait phone to be detected, after detection go to update option and click Repair My Phone/Tablet.
3) Leave the device until repair finishes.
Another method :
1) Flash 4.1.2 firmware from here Xperia SP 4.1.2
2) Flash it via Flashtool.
3) Extract the Kernel.sin from the stock FTF file (Android 4.3) you previously have downloaded.
4) Open Flashtool (By Androxyde) and then open tools->sin editior and select Kernel.sin where ever you extracted it.
5) Click extract data and wait.
6) Once you get the kernel.elf file rename it to boot.img.
7) Flash it as kernel via Flashtool.
8) Now select the stock FTF (Android 4.3) you downloaded and then before flashing look into right side you'll see an exclude option box.
