Today was watching a movie and it kept stattering for some reason. So I decided to reflash my phone, now everything is gone. Movies, pictures, videos, all my downloads. Why did it wipe my memory?

I would imagine it's because you had them on the internal memory and not your SD card?
yh I did but on xperia s it never wiped internal memory and I flashed it so many times. Now im having new issues though, when I take piocutres it says could not save, its there if I view it with file manager but album app says nothing found.

If you use flashtool to flash roms then try unticking "flash userdata" in flashtool while selecting a firmware. This should leave the internal memory intact!

OK so, everytime i update my firmware, my images disappear.
by this i mean, they were in the gallery before i updated but now gone after the update.
this has happened numerous times, going from any firmware to any other, i think the only time it didnt happen was from jm6 to jm8.
also its pictures and videos from both the internal sd and the external sd. the music remains along with all other data however, can someone please explain this to me?
and it is not limited to pictures/videos taken with the camera, its ones i have transferred over also.
Thanks.
That's way you should take a backup before you flash a firmware.

Thats really odd, I've NEVER lost any data on my internal sd since I first got my SGS back in July and i've flashed atleast 10 times. Honestly I have no idea and I think you are the only one with that problem. But yeh. Always make a backup. Get a 3rd party app
Yes I already have backups, so I'm not really losing them, it's just annoying that it's only photos and videos that disappear. And it's only after a new flash. I've tried rescanning them and nothing shows up, I take out the memory card and they are not there, the folders are there but nothing else. Like I said all other data is there. Downloads etc.
Any idea why this could be happening?
make sure you configure the camera to record/save to the EXTERNAL SD card, by default it saves to the internal SD card
Again I already have but, as I said before, it's both the external and internal sd. They both lose only images and videos. All other data is there. It's very confusing.

Never heard about this.
I have flashed my phone alot of times and noting on my external card is touched.
I done this on my girlfriends phone to. All is untouched.
It also wise to remove all card when flashing.
So the question is what i do you do when you are flashing.

I do what I have been told, load up odin, put in the code modem and csc files, then press flash, no repartition. And the appropriate put file. I follow the instructions as put on this website for flashing the firmware. And I use titanium backup to backup everything. As far as I know, I am doing everything I should.

very very strange indeed
i don't lose what is on my External SD, only what is in my Internal SD (which is expected)
no idea why it would also format your External SD
solution is simple regardless
just take out your External SD before you flash
I'm running Kitkat 4.4.2 from insertcoin. The Storage space is 25.4gb, and I'm using 16gb of it, but my phone says I'm out of free space. I tried Clearing out all my data from my SD, and it still said my SD had about 10gb in use. I'm thinking maybe its some system data, but what part of the OS could be taking up 10gb?
Also, I've got some sort of audio dump going on under /Data/Audio that I have to keep deleting through android commander. how can I turn off the auto audio dump?
You have any nandroid backups? Each of those, including data, will be around 2-3 gb. In TWRP they are in a folder in the TWRP directory. Don't know about CWM.

This happened to me once. The way I dealt with it was I transferred all of my important files (e.g. pics, vids, nands, etc) to my computer, then formatted the internal storage and installed a fresh ROM.
and its still okay? I tried that about a week ago, but I didn't flash a fresh rom, I just reformatted the storage partition and I gained about 6gb, which has now disappeared.
Try a few storage apps from Playstore.. I can't recommend something but there are a few which will get you a good idea.
reinstalling the ROM seems to have fixed my problem, but now I've got a new problem. I guess I should make a new thread for it though. thanks for the help!

try downloading diskusage from the playstore. it should give you a pretty accurate view of your completely usage and where its coming from and then you can go about clearing space up
hi, i just updated to 4.4 kitkat, but when i look in my album, there are lots of pictures that aren't there anymore. Almost all of my pictures were on my sd-card, so could that be the cause?
thanks in advance!

i tried it, but still nothing. Also, my music (that was on my sd-card) is missing..
very strange, i was browsing my files with file commander (es file explorer also didn't found the files) and then everything was back to normal.
it takes some time for the phone to read the sd card. just wait and i'm sure it'll show up

Hi..
When you update your ROM to 4.4.2, what method did you use? Flashing an FTF or apply OTA / Sony PC Companion update?

i flashed an FTF. i didn't wipe a thing, not even cache. I also had a few issues with different internet browsers, but after wiping their cache and rebooting the phone, everything is normal now.

if your pictures is in your Internal Card, then you just wiped them with kitkat.
if it is in the SDCARD, then check it out using file manager or connect your Z1 to PC and search the SD.
They are never deleted in SDcard unless you wiped external storage in recovery or your SDcard is screwed.

What if you clearing album cache? Does your old images shown up on album? I think ,not. Well, fortunately mine is OK because I move all of my images to External SDCARD (when flashing an FTF, I wiped everything). I guess your old images were stored on Internal SDCARD, weren't they?

no, the pictures that weren't shown were on my external sd-card. The pictures from my internal were still shown. None of my pictures are wiped, i now have everything back to normal. Just by clearing cache, rebooting, checking my files in file commander and waiting. Then everything was back

I did the same but now all my internal pictures which are old are at the top which is really annoying.
Can someone help with sorting.
Thanks
I was clearing up stuff on my phone the other day and I noticed that my other storage is just under 15GB, which is almost half of my total capacity and leaves me with just about no space left.
(as I can't post pictures)
it's 1.25GB apps, 6.04GB music, 2.63GB pictures, 3.34GB Downloads, 14.70GB Other, leaving me with only 4.04GB left to spare.
I used the SD Card Analysis in ES File Explorer and it doesn't help me find the problem.
I'm running ViperOne 7.0.1, with the ElementalX kernal, and I'm on Sense 6.0
Can anyone help me find out what's actually causing 15GB to be used up? As I want to put like another few gigs of music on but I can't.
Thanks in advance.

is formatting your device and starting over with a fresh install an option? You could just wipe everything + format data then push and flash viper + elementalX again.

factory reset only wipe user data while format data will erase everything on /data partition.
This is a problem I've been facing since like a year. Everytime I open Google Photos, com.android.media stops and Photos app shuts down abruptly. For this reason I haven't been using it at all.
But now, it stops just anytime randomly. I get to see a FC message for it. I collected the log, if anyone can help me understand what the issue is, I'll be very grateful.
I've wiped my phone several times, changed ROMs, went to stock, everything but the issue still stays.

I had that issue a while ago and I had to wipe everything from TWRP (davlik, cache, system, data AND internal storage) and afterwards I didn't restore anything from Titanium Backup. It was a pain but it fixed the problem.

I copied what I wanted to save from internal storage to my computer and copied it back when I was done installing the ROM and setting up the phone. Like you mentioned I copied pictures, music, downloads and I think that was all I saved. It's been a while ago so I don't remember exactly but anything that I felt was important I copied off and copied back.
