Does anyone else's camera lag in low light situations? - Sprint HTC One (M7)

Last night I was trying to take pics of me dunking and the camera lagged every time there was movement on the phone, but when it was day time it was as good as can be.
Also, I noted that when taking a really up close picture of something, the camera doesn't focus at all...even if you tap it.

Ditto on the same issues... Or maybe that's the way the phone camera is. If anyone with better knowledge could enlighten us if this is normal or not would be greatly appreciated.

It's normal.. It's trying to adjust ISO to allow light in and that takes time which causes the screen to lag.. If you manually adjust the ISO to a specific setting it will not lag nearly as bad as auto in low light.

You should see how much snapchat lags with low light situations on this phone.

If you're referring to the picture moving smoothly as you move, this is normal. I don't think it's iso but rather the shutter being open longer (slow shutter). If you notice, the picture smears while you're moving. This is exactly what happens when the shutter is slow. This phone probably sets the shutter slower than most others to draw in even more light. I wouldn't worry about it.

Camera problem. help please!

Hello, I am experiencing something word with my camera. I'm not really sure if we consider it a hardware problem or something. As you can see, there are purple lines that appear on my pictures.. Why is this? Second question, can I get my phone replaced because of this problem?
P.s. I used to experience this in my blackberry storm 1 after a few years. Attaching photos. 1 st photo was taken with my Note and the second was with my storm.

Do you notice the same banding effect on your phone if you use Gallery or browse the net? In low light conditions the striped effect has been reported by many other Note users - search for "banding" and you'll see what I mean
I do notice the effect but only when in low light - if the screen is set to higher brightness the banding effect goes away. So maybe it is not camera related but more to do with the screen?

Okay, I'll read up on banding later on. I tried turning up the brightness on full and took a test shot and still, there were those lines. I kind of noticed that this banding happens more for whites than low lighting conditions.
Thanks by the way!

Simple test would also be to transfer the photo to your PC and see if it shows banding there? (I am probably wrong but assuming you used screenshot feature of Note to take screen captures?)
PS - don't just say it - hit the Thanks button
Sorry I'm new here. there you go.
Anyway I'm not yet home so have no access yet to my PC. Got to chat and show what's wrong with a photographer friend. he told me that this is a common problem due to the fluorescent light. True enough,I tried some low light shots under a different light bulb and no banding. I was quite convinced and so I'll continue trying to do tests.

Camera LED flash is way too powerful, ruins every low light shot!

Anyone else?
totally agree with you!!
Same here...it seems like when i take pictures inside with a bright light in the back ground the light white washes the pictures. Its like its super sensitive to bright light. Forget using the flash...

Not a problem here, but I had that problem with my Xperia PLAY.

Camera App stops taking photos

If this has been posted already, my apologies! i've been reading in the forums for months now and haven't seen it posted yet unless it came and went down the list faster then i could see it.
so the main issue seems to be, after taking a few pictures over time the camera app just freezes with the LED on like a flashlight and won't take another picture. until i found this google code submission
http://code.google.com/p/android/is...s Owner Summary Stars&groupby=&sort=&id=40996
i've always had to reboot my phone just to take pics again. it's been embarassing when in public with friends i've bragged to about this phone... its a good laugh thats for sure, but not what i expect out of this phone. has any of you experienced this? do you guys on custom roms have this issue? is this a google code issue only or are all roms experiencing this issue? i haven't rooted yet as i always wanted to take updates automatically and stay up to date, but with this camera issue i'm in the process of rooting right this minute but want to make sure its worth my hassle.
discuss.
I've had this issue as well. It only seems to affect the stock app though as other camera apps continue to function. A reboot is the only way is been able to fix this bug.

It happened to me for the first time on New Year's Eve but happened three times. The app reset when I either closed it from the recent apps list or switched to video camera and then back to regular camera. Not sure what caused it and hasn't happened since.

So what you're trying to say is whenever you try to repetitively take photo, camera freezes with led light on? Never happened to me. Then again, I barely use my camera
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
I've had this happen as well, although I don't think I needed to reboot, just closed the app and it stopped. But I've had this happen several times, not recently though. I'm very disappointed with the camera on this thing, it seems to take lack luster photos and the app is very fritzy and the rotation animation awful, as well as this occasional glitch.
It's a bug and has been reported. You can star it here:

that's exactly what I'm saying. I take a lot of pics especially when we go out. it does it all the time... it just freezes with the led stuck in. I can hit home but when I reopen it and take a pic it gets stuck in again. I just read I can switch to video and back and it should work, but that's annoying. my girlfriends gnex just works and she always laughs at me when it happens.
question, does this happen on anyone's rooted nexus with custom rom?

Happens to me all the time. The camera app on here is pretty disappointing. I don't get it.

I just got it to produce that problem and I see what you mean by annoying. One easy solution that I heard people using is using a third party camera app. Try a free camera app and tell us how it goes. Tried to reproduce the problem with camera zoom fx and couldn't do it. Also I believe this is a problem with terrible auto focus of nexus 4. Because when this happens the focus ring looks like as if it's still trying to focus into a object. Hopefully this gets fixed with software update. Cheers
BTW, using a rooted stock nexus 4 with Franco kernel and camera mod that'll increase the quality of the image and video.

Me too and I've now "Starred" the bug.
Hopefully everyone here has too so it gets noticed by Google.
Same issue. Experienced it for the first time on New Year's Eve. Both my Nexus 4 and my wife's had the same thing happen. Only happened to mine once. Happened to hers about 3 or 4 times.
Used the camera the most on New Year's compared to any other time so that's possibly why I never experienced it until then.
Happened twice when asking strangers to take pics of us too, which was extremely annoying and embarrassing.
The LED flash stays on and you can't take any pics. Closing the app and swiping it from recents and reopening does nothing. The same thing will happen on the next try. Need to reboot the phone. It's the only fix.
My phone did this on new years eve too.

Happened the same to me more then once. I don't use the camera that much but when I really need it doesn't work.
This is embarrassing when everyone around you is taking pics with their iPhone.
Had numerous android phones before and never had one 100% reliable.

Had this issue also!
BTW while messing around just now, I got it to freeze , but noticed it was out if focus , so I moved it around and it eventually took!

Try the Camera Zoom FX app. When I say amazing control, I mean AMAZING control of the camera. ISO, tap to focus and shoot, programmable hardware buttons for shutter/gallery etc...
The ability to control ISO means you can get rid of noise for stills/landscapes in almost any light. It works great. Furthermore, the pictures appear to be better from this app. When I started the app, I played around with it and thought "hey this is great, I have control over each shot, but the quality of the picture in auto mode appears the same as stock." Then I found in somewhat hidden "All Settings" menu a SAVE menu which was defaulted to 85% for jpeg output. I put it on 100% output and the pics look very good if not better than stock. The hardware is decent in this thing so the pics should be good. Take a look at the app and try it out for a few minutes to test it.
Disclosure: I have NO financial or personal interest in the company or developer of this app. But I do have a personal interest in photography.

Photos under fluorescent tube lights

Hey all!
I was wondering if anyone else has this issue. The problem only happens when I take photos in a room that has fluorescent tube lights. I have attached a photo with the issue.
The photo basically has horizontal lines which don't look very attractive

I'll try the scene settings next time and see what happens :good:
Set the white balancing setting in the camera to fluorescent instead of auto.

It appears that the frequency in which the fluro flickers is the same as which you phone is sensitive to. Does it show this on the screen while you are composing the shot? If possible to get around it, the most likely options would be to speed up or slow down the shutter speed, you will get this by manually changing the camera modes.
It all depends how the florescent light is being powered. If you use a digital ballast, you won't get the lines.

Scan "lines" with camera

Anyone noticed if you looking in the live view on the camera the refresh lines. I thought maybe it was only with the live view before a snap but it even affects my photos and videos...
I didn't notice thus until today. I attached some photos as an example of what I'm talking about.
The discolorations are added by on he phone on the light where it should be solid white.
On the sheet of paper it should be all white, but yet it's got brown lines going through it???

After doing more research and playing with the camera this only happens when the sensor is letting less light in, this is one of the bugs addressed in the European update as well with all the noise in lower light situations.
