Do we have any devs lurking around here willing to make a flashable.zip of the wifi calling feature for the TMO users as it will only work on their devices? I would like to run an aosp rom but really need this feature. Apps from the market just don't cut it

It requires a specific service. I'm t-mobile customer but I'm not using their simple choice plan. I can't use wifi calling either.

Thats why this thread is directed at the developers. So they could answer as to wether they were willing or not. Payment is always an option that is not above me. If I had the coding ability to do something like this, I would not be asking for help on here.

previously the wifi calling was done through an app that was active. Now it seems like wifi calling is enabled through a system setting which mean it must be built into the framework at this point. some have been able to take the additional framework stuff and add it into international roms and then port the settings.apk that has the toggle over as well. so not sure if this will ever come to aosp.

This topic is for development of the Wifi apk for the vibrant. Please DO NOT discuss what wifi means to you or how excited you are about it. I am posting this in hopes that a developer can make this work.
Only comment here if you can contribute and make this work. (what i have provided is the extent of my knowledge)
The apk installs, loads, but will not connect. It gets stuck on 'enabling' and shreads the battery trying.
Perhaps the servers are just not up yet since this is so new..
UPDATE: According to TMo News, T-mobile has stated that they do not support wifi calling yet... so hopefully this app not working is just a result of no server support yet..

Took a look at it and so far its either missing a VPN module or its pointing at settings that we dont have. Right now its looping trying to connect to localhost.
This does ADB install fine, but it doesnt connect if you disable it and try to re-enable it.
Side effect, it was constantly looping trying to connect the service and wasnt very happy about uninstalling when I tried, wouldnt recommend anyone install it unless they have the settings or an idea where we can grab them from
Soon as I get the OTA ill scour for the settings. Soon as I have any updates to it ill tweet/post
Thanks Viral, scepterr says it needs a kernel module and we need source code for that

The app he is using is called SystemPanel. It's very useful.
I suggest removing this app in the mean time. Its a CPU hog and 50% of my battery use.

According to TMO News, the wifi calling is not supported yet as stated by T-Mobile.
“Wi-Fi Calling and tethering Wi-Fi sharing are not currently supported on the T-Mobile G2. T-Mobile knows these features are important to consumers and we’re working to deliver them to G2 users in the future. We have nothing further to announce at this time.”
http://tinyurl.com/3yltw9a
This was one of my theories... that would be an easy and good answer for why it will not connect yet...
Looks like theres no luck on the g2 end either, its still missing some configuration or something.

Something tells me TMo is going to wait, either for the release of the MyTouch HD or they'll release it on a bunch of phones all at once as a way to boost sales before Christmas.
Looks like G2 will have this app soon enough. I can't wait to have it on the vibrant.
http://www.tmonews.com/2010/11/t-mobile-g2-to-get-wi-fi-calling-update-starting-tomorrow/
The reason why this app isn't working is because you need a Wifi calling plan which tmobile is rolling out soon and it requires a data plan of 19.99 or higher which pretty much everyone has because the 200 mb plan has not rolled out yet.
Has anyone gotten the wifi calling G2 OTA update yet? Can you let us know if the wifi calling now works on the G2? Thanks.

This sure is one confusing thread.
If this is a question about having an iPhone on a plan without data (it is... right?), then I have no idea. I'm assuming it's not unlocked and is on AT&T? I would think they require a data plan for iPhones, but I really have no idea.

Also, if it is an iPhone (we are talking about an iPhone here, right? Running 2.2 or something? I am still confused..), it does matter to know that, since I do not think AT&T allows iPhones on a data-less package anyway.

Second. My friend does have a data less iphone
See what happens right now is when he turns his iphone on (the iphone OS) a little pop up shows up and says that he does not have a data plan and data will not be used. But it still connects to the 3g network, and he can get mms.
I was asking if there was a way to do that in Android, thats all. Even if its not as simple as the iphone os. Just that it uses wifi when its needs data access.

Just switched to tmo and purchased a 64gb Nexus 6 from Motorola. Should be here next week.
I had a few device & carrier questions being this is my first Nexus device (besides tablets)
I will be using this device on T-Mobile but it's from the Moto store.
Who will I be getting updates from? T Mobile or Google directly?
I plan on flashing a custom rom (most likely Pure Shamu from what I've gathered) being that one model of nexus supports all carriers (radios).. I read that T-Mobile will be pushing an update to support wifi-calling (which I need in my home). Will that work on my particular device or is there a specific T-Mobile Nexus that I'd need?
Lastly, I do use wifi tether quite a bit, and on my current devices rom they have the unlimited wifi tether hack.
Is that something built into a rom or has to be done separately?
Thanks for any help that can be given.
Oh, forgot one question.
Also read up on the encryption ordeal.
I don't need that on my device but is there any benefit to have it or not have it enabled?
Again, thank you.

Nexus is GSM unlocked and should theoretically work on all carriers out of the box. I bought mine from the motorola store and is working without any problems.
Updates come from google directly.
If you want to use Wifi calling, I believe that you do have to be running stock firmware, nobody will know for sure until it gets released.
I believe Shamu allows you to bypass the tether limit. I'm currently using CM 12 and tethering doesn't count towards my tethering limit.
The only benefit of not having encryption enabled is faster boot times.

If you root your phone, you can add the hack yourself. I am on a stock rom, and my grandfathered data plan has no tethering allotment, but i can tether to my heart's content. I copied this from another thread:
I was able to work around the issue by modifying the following sqlite database (you'll need root):
/data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db
You need to add a new entry to the global table called "tether_dun_required" with a value of 0.
It looks like you need to do this because some configuration data was added to Android for T-mobile that forwards tethered data to this APN: pcweb.tmobile.com
T-mobile is probably checking to see if your account has tethering enabled when you go through this APN.
After I made this change I also needed to change my APN settings so that it uses ipv4 instead of ipv6. It seems like tethering with ipv6 does not work 100% yet.
I hope this helps.

Definitely rooting and most like run a stockish custom rom. Hoping that's built in if not I'll take a look into that.
Most of the custom roms I've run on t-mobile have that built in and are preset to ipv 4 not 6 for that exact reason.

No one is bothering to work on an alpha build. Nothing will be done until the OS is released in 7 months or so. This is not meant to be a daily driver.
This is why developers get so upset when these builds are published to normal people.

well to be fair, google is using the phrase "android beta", and making this open as an OTA for a reason. From my usage so far, the N beta seems very daily driver friendly, friendlier than L, M previews were the past two years.
i think these "Devs" you speak of can probably calm their testicles... Unless i'm mistaken, this community is for everyone, regardless of what the website name is.
I'm not here asking for Johnny hacker codemaster extraordinaire to fire up some chillstep and fix this for me. I'm simply posing a question to the community. Perhaps a lowly peasant Joe shmoe has come across something, and would see my post and share.

appreciate the response. Unfortunately, the method i use is via custom recovery with adb, and no luck. I was able to successfully edit the build prop via this method, but the net.tethering.noprovisioning=true line no longer seems to have any effect like it did in Lollipop and Marshmallow.

Yes they did release it for a reason. So app developers have an idea of the changes coming. It is not meant as a daily driver.
You have no idea how people are laughing at requests like this.
No this Alpha build was just released yesterday and to be honest most people that could help with this are not even running it. Only people that dont know better are using it.
tethering works fine right out of the box on N, no need to unlock it. unless you are asking to tether "free" on your provider, then you have to just find your way for now.
This works I just tested it. Im on verizon udp. turn off wifi. First eject sim card (don't need to take it all the way out). turn on hotspot through settings not the quick tile. As soon as you toggle the hotspot on push the sim card back in.

Google made this available as an OTA via the beta program so that even non super elite devs can check it out. Yes it's not meant for daily use, that part is clear on the beta page; yell down from your high horse when you have some inside info that the general public is not aware of.
Once again, this post is CLEARLY NOT a "request" like you're going on about. As an android enthusiast, i'm here discussing the next version of android with other enthusiasts.

Well as tethering is enabled by default then your question is answered. If you want to do it for free then that bypasses a paid service which would make it warez and banned from the site.
If you want to tether then pay for the option. Simple solution.

I have the same problem with My Verizon, but I can use VVM just fine. Verizon might have updated the app to insist that it only be accessed from the device it expects. These CM 14.1 based roms have a different fingerprint than the stock rom.
Also, I'm surprised that Verizon did anything after you told them you had flashed a custom rom. That's pretty much the biggest excuse they have to not help you at all.
