Is this a known issue with the One? I am in Europe and relying entirely on WiFi for my One. I am unable to connect to almost any network. What makes it worse is my wife's One has no problem at all, neither does my computer or my 100 year old TouchPro 2.
I should add it doesn't even detect the WiFi network and in the rare event that it does, the signal is poor and usually drops connection. I'm not too sure it was always like this, I never noticed this before.
I haven't had any issues until recently. Restarting the phone has resolved it for me but things get screwy again eventually

I have seen that mine has a "grip of death" syndrome if I over the top where the antennas are. Hold my hand over it and WiFi disappears. Annoying but I can live with it.

I keep getting disconnected on gtalk. So I recieve mails that someone wrote me.
Really annoying.
Now running a rooted frf91 rom, with radio 32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.12_7, but have had this problem for six weeks, with different roms and radios...
It seems to be happening randomly, maybe when it switches between 3g/no 3g reception, but I'm not sure of that. It also seems to be turning of 3g even though I'm in an area with good reception.
Anybody have a clue?
I'm having the same issue and it seems to be worse when I have wifi enabled. Even with wifi set to be always on the connection goes out multiple times a day. I've found that leaving phone on 3G has given me better connectivity for gtalk.

One question. Are you using N1 by AT&T?
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
no, I'm in Denmark, on Telenor
I don't think this has anything to do with your rom, radio, or even the N1 for that matter. I have had 3 HTC phones both rooted and non-rooted (G1, N1, MT3GS) and everyone of them go in and out of connectivity on gtalk. It may be a reception issue but I think t has more to do with how the app is made. Just my 2 cents.
Nah, cause my gf on desire, my friend on hero, and myself earlier on magic didn't have the same problems... :/
And also, as I said; I suspect it might be because the 3g falls out. Even though I stay stationary, the 3g switches over to edge... or even somethimes gprs. And I live downtown copenhagen, good reception on other phones.
I have the same problem, but it is only when I leave my WiFi area into 3g. It just won't reconnect until I manually sign in. But from that point forward it stays connected all day with no issues.
I've owned my Nexus One for over a year and I've never had any issues with connecting and using WiFi until recently. This is especially important for me, because unlike most people I don't have a data plan and exclusively use WiFi.
My phone is running stock Gingerbread 2.3.3, GRI40. After the update I didn't experience any issues with the WiFi or anything else with my phone. This past weekend however, my phone has had issues staying connected to WiFi and is having extremely poor signal strength. I went out of town and was using WiFi at a hotel with no issues and left my phone on over night. The next day I was using my phone regularly and then when I went to turn the screen on I discovered the phone was off. It appeared that it had crashed and turned off, I'm still not sure if this is related to my WiFi issue. When I went back to the same hotel I was unable to detect any of the wireless networks I had been using previously while others were able to.
When I got home I was able to connect to my wireless network, but the signal strength was extremely poor and it dropped the connection often and it continues to be so today. I've been directly next to the router and the signal strength barely increased. Before signal strength was strong throughout the entire house and my dad's Droid Incredible continues to have strong signal strength in the house. Therefore it isn't an issue with the router, but the phone itself.
So I'm not sure if it is a hardware or software issue, since I didn't experience problems initially with Gingerbread and hardware doesn't usually stop working like that. I'm contemplating doing a factory data reset to see if that resolves the issue.
I'm not sure if I should contact Google or HTC for support, especially since I believe the warranty was for one year and I'm now past that. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Also, here are some posts on Google's forums with other people having WiFi issues: http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Google Mobile/thread?tid=00279551366307eb&hl=en
Ah I wondered if it was just me, I previously had no problem getting wifi signal in my bedroom.
Since Gingerbread I only have a single bar (just the sphere of the icon is green). Sometimes it'll just drop straight to 3g :-(
im having the same problem
I'm also consider low wifi signal.
Same problem here to.
Not that I'm glad to hear other people are having issues, I'm glad I'm not the only one.
I just got really fed up with it today and decided to do a factory reset. Unfortunately it was a huge waste of my time and didn't improve anything at all. I can't even use WiFi unless I'm 10 feet away from the router and even then the connection is slow and drops out constantly. I have never been so disappointed in Google.
I'm considering trying out CyanogenMod.

You should, the only issue with CM is the call wonk, and now it's almost worked out. I've never wonked myself.

I just got the N1 and is still happy whit it, but I hope Google will fix this problem. As I can see, there is many people out there, that has the same problem as us.
I always wanted this mobile, but didn't have the money to spend. So for a month ago, I could buy it in Denmark for 2000 dk / 400 $ so I don't know if it always have been a problem. I got it with 2.3.3
Hope this text is readable. My English is not my strong side.

Intermittent signal drop on my Atrix
I have the same problem on my Atrix, signal is weak and drops every now and then.
Read on the Motorola forum that turning the cell phone settings of - ie Airplane mode on, resolves this....sort of. So sounds like you have a choice of using wifi or getting phone calls.
So far very disappointed, and not encouraged by the other post here either.
Did you ever think that maybe its time for a new wifi router?
Guys,
Don't know if I'm the only person with this problem but its irritating me more ever day and making me hate this marvellous device.
I have three wifi access points in my house connected to the same switch, long house with 3-4' thick granite walls so need this to get coverage.
Whenever I connect to wifi and move to a stronger wifi area on the same network the phone insists on staying connected to the weaker signal even if there are 'no bars' and hardly any signal strength.
I'm guessing this is making the radio work harder hence lowering battery life, plus reducing data speeds; why doesn't it automatically switch to the stronger signal like my blackberry does?

Same thing happens to me. I always feel like throwing it against a wall when it does that because in have to go into the settings and manually change it. I haven't found a setting to connect automatically to a stronger signal yet though.

Odd... there were answers to this question in this thread yesterday!?!
To recap, in case anyone else is looking for solutions, three apps were recommended: Best Wifi, Wifi Switcher, and Wifi Jumper... all available on Google Play. I chose and experimented with Best Wifi last night on both my Note and my Xoom. Worked great in limited testing. My setup is 3 Ubiquity routers, the two most distant cabled directly to the primary (which is cabled directly to the gateway). All 3 broadcast the same SSID and use the same security protocols, so moving around with mobile equipment is almost transparent and so setup of new, fixed devices is identical regardless of location. This setup has worked well for my application.
got the same problem with my repeaters :/
So I have noticed this problem since the 4.3 upgrades have been out and it continues through the 4.4.2.
I have this problem at home on WiFi, when I am at home I have terrible cell coverage usually bouncing between no coverage and one bar. It seems that when I am bouncing between no cell coverage and one bar my WiFi drops and immediately reconnects.
I had originally thought that my access point was the culprit as I hadn't noticed it happening when I dropped in and out of cell coverage. So I replaced my WiFi system as the one I was on was 8-10 years old. So upgraded to new hardware (WiFi) and tried both 2.4g and 5g and problem persisted.
I have used stock roms, and others, currently on ViperOne 5.8. I have updated to the most current firmware along the way, I even flashed a full RUU and started over last weekend. In addition I have this issue on all three devices in the house (all HTC One M7's).
So today I tried something I should have thought of sooner. I put the phone in airplane mode and then turned on WiFi and noticed that the problem went away, consistent WiFi, no WiFi drop, bounce, etc.
So anyone have an idea as to why this would happen and how I can solve it or is it something that is not solvable except by HTC/Google?
Thanks all.

I think this is an HTC bug. I've seen many users here complain of this on the Sprint model. I have the same issue as well. I have mine set so I can see if I am on 4G or 3G even while I am connected to WiFi. I notice this bug happens exclusively (and nearly every time) when the phone goes from 4G -> 3G.
I had a similar issue but when i updated radios it went away

I don't have 4G in my area so that isn't a factor for me but I can see potentially this happening between 2G and 3G and I am usually roaming here so that would make sense.
Thx.

Most of the people I've seen with this problem had it start with the latest radio or the one before it. The latest radio definitely does not fix it here.
This also happens to me at home while connected to my WiFi , really annoying ,or sometimes if I'm at work .no WiFi connection ,it'll show I have 3g but won't let me load pages.

I had that problem as well, I even called Sprint, and they sent me an Airave which is on it's way now. Yet, the tower near my house (6 miles away) was fixed-ish today and it stops that whole reconnect and disconnect garbage. Plus, I get lte in about 80% of my house. This wifi mess was going on since December and I put my phone on roaming most of the time to make it a little more stable.
Just reporting back. I reverted to the previous radio this morning and my connection seemed to stay on. Not sure if I'm trippin or if it really is working better .gomna test it out some more and flash the newest radio and check if there's a difference.

I don't know why, but this is a consistent problem and it's getting annoying. I will only have bars, but no wifi or internet connection. This just randomly happens and I don't know what triggers it.
I have to turn airplane mode on and off to fix the problem. Is there something that is causing this?

What happens is data and wifi disappear and if I hit wifi it won't turn on. I have to turn airplane mode on and off and it starts working again.

I have had the same thing happen, but only once or twice,I chalked it up to my home WiFi threw Comcast ,I've been having major problems with my Comcast modem dropping WiFi or to slow of a connection, think I have to replace the modem just been to lazy, but I have the smart network switch on in my phones wifi settings so I thought maybe from the signals switching so much it froze or something, but yea it did same thing I had no lte or 4G next to my carrier signal, the wifi was not allowing me to turn it on,or scan for networks, wasn't even showing any so I did the same thing hit the airplane toggle and it came back.

Sorry i have no others solution for it.
I just posted a thread about the EXACT SAME issue. It only seems to happen overnight, but when I wake up in the morning my wifi has been turned off and my 4G LTE isn't working. When I try and toggle wifi back on it gets stuck and never reconnects/turns on. My solution has been to restart the phone.
I'm thinking since this seems like a rare problem, that this is a device-specific issue. I'm going to try and exchange mine this weekend due to this problem and hopefully get a properly functioning GS5 instead.

Have the same issue (made a post about it already in this forum). Usually happens when there is a large fluctuation in signal. Grocery store where I get no service results in no service when I leave the store as well. Have to cycle airplane mode like you described.
WiFi hasn't done it yet.
Another forum member suggested it may happen if using an older style SIM, which I am (from my S3). I haven't been up to change it yet. What SIM are you guys using?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2744472
I typically have this happen when I'm at home at night, while my phone is plugged in and on wifi. Just disconnects at some point overnight.
I'm using a brand new SIM provided by AT&T when I upgraded in store.
Very strange issue and is random. For instance, it didn't happen overnight last night.

My S5 just started dropping data randomly and causing my battery to drain with almost no usage... I tested using Skype in a good 4G LTE area and will start out with 4 bars and the 4G LTE icon but as soon as I try to initialize a test video call over Skype the signal immediately drops to either no bars at 4G or it will go straight to E!? I haven't had this issue in a long time and it just suddenly started. At first I figured maybe they lost a tower but now this is going on almost a full week. I've got unlimited Data so I know that's not the issue, it has a brand new SIM... I'm going to AT&T and see if they have an answer or if they'll swap it out. Annoying!
Also annoying that sending a simple text will fail... ugh no root and now no data! :what::banghead:

I've had this happen several times, but only at my work. Reception is poor at my office, and the company WiFi requires browser-based login each hour, which I switch to many times a day.
The phone basically stops using all radios EXCEPT bluetooth, showing a circle with a line through it. I've been rebooting the phone to restore connectivity, but will try toggling airplane mode next time. I haven't noted any strange battery drain.
I haven't seen this issue when wifi is disabled.
I didn't notice it locked up a few days ago and drove home where cell reception is very good. The phone didn't recover until I rebooted it.
I have a brand new SIM from ATT and use a Gear 2 (which is greatness, btw)
I've done the following:
1. disabled the damn ATT hotspot app
2. Disabled/enabled the Wifi connection check setting
3. Did a full factory reset
This is getting close to a deal breaker for me.
As an update...
I have this issue basically every work day with the aforementioned environmental variables
Today, I:
Disabled Bluetooth (left the gear at home)
Disabled wireless
Switched radio to 'LTE/GSM/CDMA Auto' with instructions in this thread
The radios haven't locked up and reception is much better.
I'll try leaving WiFi/BT on and use my Gear again next week.
For anyone who is still interested, changing the modem setting seems to have resolved the problem for me. It also improved connectivity in weak areas a good deal.
Unfortunately you must enter the key sequence to toggle the radio each time the phone is restarted.
